Are there any measurable performance advantages of 64-bit processors and do they also reflect in real life usage?
I'm torn between buying or passing Nexus 6 as I've no idea weather 64-bit is actually useful or just market gimmick because I'll be holding off my purchase of Nexus 6 if 64-bits bring reasonable improvements to the scene.
Thank You

Right now phones dont go past 3 gb (which is one reason you may need 64 bit) and apps arnt optimized for the 64bit architecture.
The only 64-bit enabled Nexus device as of right now is the Nexus 9. The 6's SoC is 32-bit in software and hardware.
EDIT: I misread your post. You already know the Nexus 6 is 32-bit, my bad.
Maybe the most noticable advantage of 64 bit arm v8 is the hardware encryption, wich in the nexus 6 reduce the performance a lot.
Just found a store selling a brand new 5X 32GB for about 284$ which seems considerably cheaper compared elsewhere. I've made the order hoping it isn't priced in error. Anyways, I've been reading up on users opinion about it and alot of them have complained about it being sluggish and stuttering at times particularly after running it a few days. I'm thinking if it could replace my N6 and just give it away to my dad. What do you think considering the price tag and do you reckon Google will ever solve the lag issues considering they're not even acknowledging it in the first place?

Until now, I still don't understand why Google released TWO versions of the Nexus last year. Seemed asinine and somewhat misguided from what they originated "Nexus" as: lower cost phone, no frills, good hardware.
Beginning with the Nexus 6, the price tag has bumped up, they are playing keep up with the jumbo-sized phones, and now trying to make it "premium". My favorite still is the Nexus 5. Very low cost, low profile, and packed with good hardware. The 6 which I have isn't too bad although huge, but the 6p and 5x just leaves me scratching my head.
If the 2016 Nexus were just the Nexus 6 with beefed up hardware, that would be perfect. The 6p in particular has the size with wider bezels (less screen).

Honestly I don't think the Nexus was ever meant to be affordable I always considered it a premium. It just so happens that since LG, concept of a Nexus shifted showing how they could produce affordable device with unnecessary compromises. I use to own an N5 and I'd still enjoy using it, it had everything I needed not to mention the dimension is almost perfect for me. I would've paid a premium for the 5x if they hadn't stuck with the ****ty 808 and only 2 gigs of ram. But as mentioned in OP, for the price I'm getting it now its tempting.
I do agree tho Google should've just stuck with a single device each year, would've made things alot simpler. I hope they don't continue with the current trend this year's release.

I noticed you are in another country so I'm not sure what the pricing structure is there, but here in the US most phones (ignoring the carrier subsidies) are around the $500+ mark. Samsung Galaxy phones brand new are $600+ and the Samsung Notes and Apple iPhones are over $600+ as well.
A Nexus 5 was priced around $300-400. This is comparably cheaper than the mainstream phones. Nexus was never supposed to target the same audience as Samsung and Apple. Their audience was more for customization and less bells and whistles. It seems that Nexus is getting away from that. I see several users who say they want Android Pay to work and are sticking with "stock Google". In my opinion personally if I wanted standard bread and butter, stay stock, or have android pay instead of root, I'd get a Samsung instead of a Nexus.

Yea I moved to Dubai a while back. Pricing for unsubsidized phones are the same here with the exception of "unpopular" devices like the Nexus especially during the initial launch. The Nexus 5X 32GB when released was being sold here for 544$ but gradually it came down and got inline with the actual pricing of Google. I got my Nexus 6 32GB a few months back for 365$. At the time it was similar to the price available in the US at least until Amazon started selling them for dirt cheap.

EVERYTHING can become sluggish after a few days, if you're running crap software on it. You'll find the exact same complaints about *EVERY* phone. The 5x is a really nice phone. Graphics on it are way better (smoother/faster) than on the Nexus 6 (basically the same GPU, but pushing only 2.1 million pixels instead of 3.7 million).
While the CPU on the 5x is NOT as strong as the Nexus 6, its still a solid chip and good all-around performer.
Note that even comparing the Nexus 6 with the 6p, you will find the 6's SD805 whipping it in places, specifically, the SD805 is very strong on a per-thread basis. Its got 4 wickedly fast cores. The 810 only beats it in highly multi-threaded processing, since it can throw all 8 cores into it. All in all, I'd rate the 805 and 810 to be "equal" on the highly subjective basis of "as good as".
I like the 5x, its a really nice phone.

The *reason* for having TWO this year, is because the 6" alienated a lot of potential customers. While there is a certain portion of the population who likes something as enormous as 6", once you put on a rubber bumper (like a Ballistic Maxx) to protect against 2-year-olds, you might as well be carrying around a cinder block.
Frankly, the size of the N6 was one of two disappointments to me, the other being the AMOLED display. Unfortunately, I *needed* a new phone last year, and wasn't willing to put up with another piece of crap samsuck. If the 5x was available last year, that's what I would have bought. I don't need or want it to be this big, but its what I got stuck with.

Actually they have different GPUs, the N6 uses a more powerful Adreno 430 whereas the 5X has a slightly less powerful Adreno 418. Tests have even proven that the N6 beats the 5X in the graphic department. If anything the 808 seems like an upgrade from the 801 while the 810 is an upgrade of the 805.
I understand what you mean with the sluggishness accompanied by installing useless junk but these are legitimate complaints by many individuals who have bought the 5X only days after purchasing it. They've tested it running on bare minimum apps and vice versa, the problems still persist including different roms both stock and custom.
My N6 has over a 100apps, xposed and various tweaks and still runs smoothly.
Theres no reason why it should run this bad considering the N5 runs circles around the 5X in overall usability. It leads me to believe that it's a badly coded drivers on the 5X that needs to be acknowledged and addressed by both LG and Google instead of just releasing security updates.

N6 has Adreno 420, which regardless of magic number, has the exact same spec as the 418.... except that the 418 is on 20 nm, vs the 420 being 28 nm. So that means less power and less heat, which means running full out for longer periods of time without performance having to be sacrificed.
So yeah, the 808 technically has a BETTER GPU than the 805.
FYI: The Adreno 430 is on the N6P/SD810.

Except that those complaints are entirely baseless.
First off, anyone playing with custom hackjobs is IMMEDIATELY disqualified from making any claims, because we know that whatever they are running is probably some kind of crap CM or fork-of-CM, which as a "retired" CM maintainer -- I would NEVER use anything CM. VERY VERY bad coding practices, and throw in everything and the kitchen sink, just to make sure that performance sucks and your experience is PURE BUG.
N5X performs WONDERFULLY on factory, factory-light-tweak, AOSP, and AOSP-light-tweak. I say this with authority and experience.

There is nothing for them *TO* address. The N5X absolutely runs circles around the N5.
I come from the old Nexus phones: they were top tiers hardware, with the shell and the price of midrange phones.
Looking at the leaked Pixel 5 specs, it seems a midrange hardware with the shell and the price of a high end phone, the opposite of the Nexus...
What do you think?
I partially disagree with what you said. The Nexus line definitely had a midrange shell, but it also had (pretty much) last year's top tier processor and almost always a midrange camera (except for the nexus 6p).
I'd say that the new pixel phones may be a nice trade-off between camera, cpu, battery, shell quality and price rather than being a standout in any.
4a 5g is mid range price and most pixel 5 hardware. i think thats a steal for $500
The Pixel 5 is not a stand out phone but it will be a solid performer, much better battery, have a great camera and continue to improve over time.
Its £599 here in the UK which is pushing it. The Bose headphones (£250) thrown in makes it a very easy purchase.
The 5a with 5G looks to be great value too. the same offer on the headphones which makes it crazy cheap
I don't remember Nexus being like that at all. In fact, I remember that was what everyone complained about, just like Pixel 5. Anway, nobody is forcing you to buy one.
So many opinion posts... about a phone not even out yet. Did you miss out on pre order?
Thinking of going to the new Pixel 5 from my Pixel XL. I keep hearing people say the processor is crappy. Will it still be an improvement for me going from an older phone to this newer Pixel 5?

Well I wasn't sure. I think the Pixel XL had an 821 in it. I keep hearing about how much better the 800 series of processors are than the 700. The 700 are a mid-range. Like I compared it in my head to the regular Intel versus the Celeron.
I really didn't know, so it was a serious question. I read a lot of posts of people pooping on the processor in the Pixel 5.
Can anyone compare the viewable screen size of a Pixel 4Xl compared to the 5? My question is, if going from a 4XL, and I actually losing viewable screen, or since there is no bezel, does the screen remain the same size?
Thanks
Jhanna, just do a simple measurement or read the specs for screen size and dimensions

There are a ton of Pixel haters out there. I dunno why. Jealous? Paid shills by Apple and Samsung? All I know is that, if you told me that a 4 y.o. gen Core i7 (Kaby or Coffee Lake) ran better than a current gen Ryzen 5 (4500), I'd laugh. There might be room for debate, but not much. Here's a comparison I found of the ARM chips: https://gadgetversus.com/processor/...5g-vs-qualcomm-msm8996-pro-ab-snapdragon-821/

Cool, thanks for the link! Looks promising!
I was able to get a Pixel 4XL for $599 an couple days ago (brand new), got a price match from an Amazon listing, and I had $500 in rewards certificates (I buy a lot from Best Buy), so it cost me $99 plus tax and screen protector and case. To me, the Pixel 5 is just not worth it, smaller screen and lower resolution, slower processor and more. It's good enough for me to wait and see if they make a Pixel 6XL. 6.3 inch screen is the smallest I'll go, and I actually prefer 6.5 to 6.7 inch screens. To each their own, but I just don't see the value in a Pixel 5 vice the Pixel 4XL, especially if you can get a new one for $599 or less.

Are you willing to spend as much or a little more on the new Google Pixel 7, which seems to be an excellent smartphone?
If you want to know more about the Google Pixel 7 serie, go to read HERE
Last year I preordered a Pixel 6. I was so hyped. New design, new SoC, stock Android, great camera. And then I got the device and there was problems with the screen, I had the accessibility service freeze bug and Google did nothing to fix it for months. I sent the device to RMA 2 times. Updates were delayed, more bugs came. It was a mess so I sold the device and made financial loss.
I dislike the fact that they made the display for the Pixel 7 smaller than the one of the Pixel 6, and I dislike curved edges on the pro version. Curved display edges are a stupid useless feature - it's no good for haptics and IMO it's marketing crap plus good screen protectors are either hard to find or expensive for them.
So maybe I'm gonna buy a Pixel 7. Maybe not. Right now I got a Realme GT 2 Pro and it's like the OnePlus device I always wanted, but the camera is not that good and it's missing the alert slider. BBK Electronics is not really cool and what they done to OnePlus and Oxygen OS is bad. Having a Pixel with Vanilla Android again would be nice. And the cameras are always very good on Pixels. I love that.
Let's see how much they will cost here in Germany. Maybe I'll gift one to myself for christmas. But I'll wait... not gonna preorder again. I've learned.
The "expected" differences/upgrades on the 7 PRO are not awe inspiring to me IMO (since the 6 PRO received a lot of upgrades from previous Pixels) coupled with the idea of spending $900 for minimal, or unimportant to me upgrades just doesn't make sense for my needs.
I'll wait for the 8 Pro

I had a Pixel 2XL and until then I never kept a device as long as I kept that one. It was great (and I used to build a ROM for it / not cooking tho, just building).
I'm planning to get the Pixel 7 and I think this could be a great phone and a competition to iPhone 14 series!
Not at that size. Way too big for me. I learned after I got the P6 that I'd never buy anything larger than my 6a. 7a is a distinct possibility though.
I'm in a watch and wait attitude for now....

It might come within striking distance of the 14 and 14 Plus with their older SoCs (keeping in mind the Tensor G2 leaked performance puts it between a Snapdragon 870 and 888, nowhere near current flagship performance and current flagships can't even match the A15) but there is no chance it can come even remotely close to the Pros except in camera and charging speed (if Google chooses to increase it, I am betting it's the same 21~23W as last year). If Apple had gone to USB-C and introduced true fast charging this year I would have switched to the 14 Pro Max because I'm so tired of the random lags, overheating, battery drain, and gaming performance issues my OnePlus 9 has while my 2 year old 12 Pro Max still runs everything I have tried effortlessly. Like it's always funny watching these "speed test" videos that just test app launching speed and nothing else. Apple's optimization is next level.

Yeah, and it feels like the software giant is least interested in their own software.
I have a Pixel 7 in my plans. I currently have Oneplus 6t for 4 years. I wanted a new Oneplus but they are big. I'm waiting for the premiere.
I have a Pixel 6 and happy with it, but miss the telephoto capability. But my 6 is only a year old, so unlikely to rush - maybe wait for a deal and see how stable folk report it to be. Seems silly to invest in a 6 Pro, when a 7 Pro would get me an extra year's updates and by the sounds of it a slightly stronger telephoto capability.... Camera quality/capability is key for me.
No, unless they stop using samsung-made tensor chips.
Tensor is fine. The long term software support is also fine.
What maynot be fine is a no so Pro SoC in the long run.
- Just my thought.
I am happy with my P6.
5G data and up to date software for buying the P6. I do not really see anything that tickles me for me to get the P7.
It's time for me to upgrade. My Pixel 3 XL is starting to have issues with the front camera, and the power button. It still runs great, but I don't want to chance some showstopper stopping me from using it soon, so I ordered a Pixel 7 yesterday. Should be a nice upgrade.
My P5 is wonderful.
But I am pre-, ordering the P7!
It just looks terrific. I only wish hazel/gold was available in P7. But I'll settle for either Snow or lemongrass. Once I decide I'll order.
I'm ready for the Pixel 7 Pro, should be a decent upgrade over my 3 and 4 XL's. I know I"m going to miss some of the features that I've grown accustomed to over the last few years (Squeeze and Face Unlock) mostly.
I'm sure I will adapt, though
