Initial setup (activation) wizard of Samsung Galaxy S23 seems to required internet connection. When the phone is started with no sim card inserted and wizard page "Choose a Wi-Fi network" is reached, button "Skip" just show a dialog stating
A netwok connection is needed to continue setup. Connect to Wi-Fi, or insert SIM catd and use mobile data.

Is there a way to finish the initial phone setup wizard without internet connection?

I have been reading WiFi threads on here for hours but can't seem to find the right answer.
I have a WiFi network at home that I can connect to when enabling Wi-Fi through the Comm Manager. My Wizard is running Xelencin's T-Mobile USA 2.26 Custom ROM (Wizard/MDA).
The problem is, when I'm at home and fire up Pocket IE, the phone tries to connect using GPRS rather than my WiFi connection. What I want is for Pocket IE to use WiFi when I'm connected to WiFi, and GPRS at other times.
Many posts reference going to Start > Settings >Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks, and changing the settings for "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet..." to either "My ISP" or "My Work Network".
I have 4 items listed in these drop-downs:
My ISP
T-Mobile Data
T-Mobile MMS
My Work Network
When I look at the settings for "My ISP" there is one connection defined called "T-Mobile WModem Link" that is set to use the modem "Cellular Line (GPRS) and access point name "wap.voicestream.com"
The settings for "My Work Network" don't show a connection listed at all. If I create a new one, my options for selecting a "modem" are:
Bluetooth
Cellular Line
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Generic IrDA
Hayes Compatible on COM1:
None of these seems to be right for a WiFi connection.
The settings for "T-Mobile Data" are the same as the settings for My ISP except the connection is called "T-Mobile Data"
The settings for "T-Mobile MMS" are also the same (GPRS and wap.voicestream.com).
It seems like T-Mobile is blocking me from using Wi-Fi as the default internet connection. I really like this ROM and would prefer not to change it. Can anyone help?
with my Wizard as long as i'm connected to a wifi network (and i have an IP address and gateway from that network) it will browse with it... only when i'm not on any network connected to the internet (including via USB Active sync) does it connect using gprs. The "My ISP" conenction is configured for my GPRS Network.
Somehting i can suggest is that you open Network Adapters, select your WLAN Wireless Adapter and choose "this network card connect me to The Internet"
good luck!
PS make sure the wifi network your conecting has a shared internet connection... if its not shared your phone will use GPRS even if its connected.

I have no problem browsing with Wifi. My wireless connection isnt the issue. My problem is not being able to make Wi-Fi, my default internet connection.
I think this works
I think this is the thread that solved it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261438&highlight=internet+wifi+gprs
To be fair, I usually have to try a couple of settings to get it to work automatically, but eventually I do.
No luck for me. I think I'm just going to have to learn how to cook a custom extended rom without the "T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab", and then hard reset. Is there a simple way to delete that cab file from the extended rom and also make that change to the "Config.txt" file (in the extended rom)? Anytime I try making changes to the extended rom via Total Commander, all the files in the extended rom end up looking garbled.
all of a sudden i am unable to connect to the EDGE network, no word on 3g as i dont have it in my area. i try to connect to say PIE and i get the message "cannot connect with current connection settings. to change your connection settings, tap setting" this brings me to a help screen asking about "my isp name" and "my work network". no idea what to do past here, any help would be greatly appreciated. i did just flash a new rom and then just the basic googlemaps/operamini/keyboard fix/touch keypad.
My ISP Name - Add new connection (or modify existinf), select GPRS connection (no CSD) and at minimum You must know APN for GPRS (usually internet).
Contact Your mobile operator for details - APN, maybe GPRS user name and password is used by network too.
If possible try your SIM card in another handset jUst to be sure that there is nothing wrong at your Carriers end

Hi all,
Got a stange issue. I have the MDAcIV (basically a diamond) on the UK T-Mobile contract.
I've setup my Gmail account to send/retrieve and over wifi it works perfectly, however if I disable my wifi connection, I expect the email to sync over GPRS, but I keep getting a sync error saying check your connections etc.
Anyway checked all my connections and it works fine over GPRS in browser, weather, and any other app requiring internet connection, just not email.
Gone through the email settings and under advanced server settings, under Network Connection it's set to "The Internet".
If I change this to "T-Mobile Internet", and then try to sync with wifi OFF, the GPRS kicks in and starts syncing.
I then stopped the GPRS connection, switched on wifi, and tried to sync again, but instead of using the connected wifi, it starts a GPRS connection.
Strange!
So in summary:
Network Connection: The Internet
WiFi OFF
GPRS ON
Sync fails over GPRS
Network Connection: T-Mobile Internet
WiFi ON
GPRS OFF
Syncs over GPRS instead of existing wifi connection
Anyone else have similar experience?
Thanks
I got a similar one:
I'm using Active Sync via HSDPA/GPRS to get my mails pushed (Exchange 2007 Server). Works like a charm and never have problems with it; used it for years with other WiMo devices.
Now, since I have my diamond (MDAc4 also) I can finally use WiFi, too. What I now experience is:
When I turn on Wifi, my cellular connection (HSDPA) stays active and when I turn it off manually via the comm manager it also turns off "PushMail" in comm manager. That basically sets active sync to "manual" instead of "when items arrive".
Though I am able to turn on push mail in comm manager again, as soon as an email arrives it starts to connect HSDPA again.
So basically I can not use wifi to save some MB of my data plan when I want to continue to get my emails. And this really sucks...
Only thing I can set up in the advanced connections in Active Sync is "Connection" where my only option is "Internet" -.- Meaning I can not differ between cellular and wifi. It kinda has to use the cellular connection...
long story short, dunno if that helps you with your problem now, sorry; but if anyone understands what I am talking about right here, maybe send me a pm or something, if you know how to fix that.

Definitely had this happen a fair few times, with the gprs failing to connect once or twice, and I've seen it on most of the roms.
I think WM doesn't set it's connection type correctly, so we don't get the seamless "use the best/cheapest/fastest connection available"
In fact, anyone know of any app that would just do that? As in try to connect to unsecured or secured wifi, followed by 3G/HSDPA, followed by GPRS?

I have exactly the same problem. If I want to get my e-mail the account setting has to be "T-Mobile Internet" unless I'm using wi-fi in which case I have to switch it to be "The Internet". Anyone know of a solution?
Is it possible that T-mobile are forcing you to use your Data connection rather than free Wifi ?
Hmmm nerf maybe?

Thanks for the reply. It could be but the phone doesn't even attempt to connect to mobile data it just pops up an error to say it can't connect with the existing data settings. Its not a T-mobile supplied handset although it did configure itself to use T-Mobile when I first put the SIM in.
Solution
After research and research I´ve finally found a solution. I´ll post some pictures of my settings so you can see yourself what you have to do.
The clou is to have only 1 connection for Wifi and GPRS/3G. WM now firstly checks if there is a Wifi connection and if not, it will connect to GPRS.
Got It
Just untick the box that says "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" in the manage t-mobile Internet connections app.
Now works over Wifi if available, if not uses GPRS/3G
I have researched the site and have not found a answer for my situation.
I have an unlocked Fuze and a international sim chip from telestial with prepaid data.
http://www.telestial.com/view_product.php?PRODUCT_ID=MSIM-PPP2
The phone works fine, but I have a strange problem with the GPRS connection
When I manual connect to the GPRS, the sim connects to the pre-paid network. However, when I launch IE, Opera or any other data program, the sim disconnects and the program searches for a the pre install MEdia Net connection (which it obviously cant find) before disconnecting me and giving me the staple, "cant connect to network message".
I was told by telestial that HTC phones are sometimes "data locked".
Anyone have any ideas? I think I just need to change the connection being forced by the individual programs.
I just got the TYTN II but I lost my data plan. so I only use the wifi to connect to get the data. The problem is that I went ahead an deleted the connections that was constantly giving me the popup connecting to the 3G. GPRS. popup. I had go.cbw.com as the connection and the connection reffered to the Cellular GPRS, 3G. I deleted the connection completly and my wifi does not connect to the internet even. so I have to have a connection , pointing to
4 options:
Bluetooth
Cellular Line
Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Hayes Compatible on COM1:
I select the Cellular and I constantly get popups saying cannnot connect .
I dismiss, but everytime the EMAIL system check email (SEVEN) it pops up when there is no wifi connection. If I connected to wifi no problem and I get no popup. I tried changing it to hayes comp and it noww pops up the username pwd thing. So how can I have a connection
Actually I have to have two.l
1 for internet
1 for Bluefire VPN
then each connection has to has a modem and that is where I am getting stuck.....
is there a way to have 2 connections, and have a null modem or something etc. so I don't know how to keep the internet working via wifi and not have the popups.
go to Star --> Settings --> connections -->Advanced --> Select Networds
then, you select a connection that has nothing with any conection, just like "my ISP" or "my word network" or create a new conection and give it no modem
I guess it will stop the popups conection you have when trying to connect to the internet.
