Help,
I've duffed up the LCD on my XDA. The poor thing looks like it is bleading to death.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement? :?
http://www.pdasmart.com/pdaphone.htm
Sheeesh $199 bucks!
That seems a pretty huge chunk of dosh. I think ebay for someones old XDA may be a slightly cheaper alternative.
Out of interest I have found a company called Proporta www.proporta.com that do screen repairs for £45.
I'll let this forum know what it is they do and if the price is right!
Thanks for your help!
bleading screen!
hi there.. i've finally found the right place for my problem.. well, yes my fone's screen is BLEEDING! it's tearing my heart! and again YES 200$ is alot of money.. so what've you found? is it cheaper anywhere else?
My solution
For the record, I have yet to find anyone in the UK who fixes, or replaces these screen. At the rate I am going I am going to start a business doing it myself! Proporta do the touch panel part not the LCD.
OK I'm not advocating this to everyone, but this solution worked for me.
I bought a used XDA of EBAY. Cost me £110, already cheaper than sending mine to the US for a new LCD. I have swapped the LCD out of the new one to my one. (my broken one had 64Mb, the ebay one only had 32Mb) So OK I now have a casing, battery, motherboard and a dead LCD as spares. I will either keep these spares, for my soon to be established XDA repair shop or I will sell them on.
It's not the bestsolution, granted, butit did get me back on the road for less than sending mine of to the US.
As for an XDA repair shop here in the UK, I'm thinking quite seriously about it, it wasn't a joke. I just need to nail down a decent supplier of LCD screens!!!

replacing the screen is a fairly easy job. You just remove the back screws, (you might need a small hex shaped screw driver) and prize appart. There are clips around the inside of the outer casing holding them together, then there are 2 small black screws on the main PCB. removing this will expose the back of the screen. Once you have done that you remove the four screws at the top and bottom of the screen, and its away. You will need to remove 3 ribbon cables that attach the screen to the main PCB, but other than that, job done.
Problem i have is i don't know where to get a replacement screen from, cos i smashed mine. If you find out, let me know.

Many different PDA screens, but I did not find XDA screens on it...
OH YES THEY DO!! trust me, ask them via email. Don't know why its not listed though I never did ask...
Price
And what did you had to pay for the xda screen?
Sceen
I am about to order one, I just recieved an e-mail from them.
They are 55 EUR posted to you.
I paid £40.inc vat & p&p.
It will ofcourse be cheaper to send within the UK, than to Norway...
Yeah! well we gotta have some benefits to livin' on an Island!!!
Hey, Montanna.
Was it as easy to put together as it was to take apart.
My XDA is in pieceses now, and I'm a litle worried
Everything will be fine, I know. But you get attached to the little guy
If I ever got to name a pda I'd call it Gizmo. U know, from Gremlins.
That would be a great theme btw...
Waddid ya attack the baby for?? hope yer modifying it, as for me it was easy for me to change the touchscreen but I am a tech-head anyway and luv my xda so any problems I tend ta sort immediately
another question
Is it the whole screen you ordered, or the touch screen or the lcd screen?
site seems bit tacky? are the legit? :?
Yes, they are legit...
Yes they are legit. They delivered very fast, and just what they promised.
But I ****ed up...
Stefan, that is something I didn't think of before I placed the order.
I needed the LCD, but I thought I only had to replace the screen. I thought “the screen” was one unit.
I didn’t read the mails I got from http://pdascreens.co.uk properly. They clearly said that they sell touch panels and nothing else.
Now I have 2 working touch panels and a broken LCD screen.
I bought my XDA on EBay, that is why I had to repair the thing myself. I am now thinking about selling it as “with broken screen” if anyone is interested…
I’ll never purchase anything this expensive on EBay again. Had I bought it from a store would this be the store’s problem, not mine.
that sucks
Damn, that sucks.
My lcd brooke when I fell and fell on my xda
I was very glad to read that they sold screens for 55 euro, to bad.
I also read that someone sent his xda to o2 for repair, and he had to pay 70 english pounds for a new screen and a new outer case.
Now I have sent mine for repair and got a letter from o2,
the costs wil be 289 euro. Woooooooooooow,
that was not what I was thinking about.
But I need the little thing and buing a new one is 599 euro so thats more than twice the repairing price.
I don't know what you paid for yours, but mayby O2 wants to repair yours to.
Stefan
Before you give up try contacting PDA screens international on www.palmscreens.com, and ask them VIA EMAIL if they know where you can get a 'LCM' for the XDA, they might be able to help you with advice on how to get your hands on the actual screens (LCM's) but you will have to be very specific as to whether is the its the complete screen or the touchscreen thats broken!!! in my case it was the touchscreen DON'T KNOW IF THEY REALLY CAN HELP BUT ITS A START AND IF THEY DON'T, WITH ENOUGH PEOPLE CONTACTING THEM ABOUT THE SAME THING......YA NEVER KNOW!!!!! I'm a big believer in people power so even if you've heard they don't, don't just stop there
Hello. I'm new here. But i do have some tips about replacing the Wallaby screen. www.Ipaqrepair.com is now repairing xda screens and digitizers in the US. Mine is being repaired at this moment. The only reason I don't have a warranty is i have a pre-production SX56 release. Anywhoo I thought some people in the US would like to know.
E-MAN
P.S. Ipaqrepair is changing it's name to PDAsmart.com at the end of the month and thats where they'll list it.
Removing the touch screen from the rest of the screen
I just succeeded in transplanting a touch screen from one xda to another. I almost gave up because it seemed the touch screen is glued to the rest of the screen. Now that does seem to be true but the glue isn't that strong ) Here's how I did it:
- Remove the screen module from the device
- On the top there's a yellow sticker, remove it
- Get a knife between any of the screen holders (where the four screws go) and pry the two pieces apart. You'll notice some strange sounds, this is just the glue letting go.
- You may have to use a knife to push the latches on three sides (all exept the side where the cables are) down.
- Only the bottom plate comes off and not the touch screen glass as I expected.
Good luck!
I'll have my digital camera back in a couple of weeks, if anyone is interested I can make some pictures of the process.
Hi
PDASmart sell both the screens and the touchpads
http://www.pdasmart.com/pdaphone.htm
OKay so my screen cracked, don't know how it happened. I went through town and the people i got it from say that cracked screen like this wont be covered under warranty
Other places said 50-60£ for replacement. and another place said 100£ because touchscreen thing makes repair more expensive.
is there anyone here who knows a reputable and CHEAP place to do this for me in the UK.
any advice appreciated. i picked up a cheap 25£ phone to last me till i sort out the screen on my kaiser.
Thank you.
I got a Replacement LCD for my TILT for $69usd at WWW.HTCLCD.COM
you can pick up genuine ones pretty cheap on ebay, and they include the torx screwdrivers and instructions to fit it yourself.

Thanks, but these phones are way too sensitive i always treat my phone with care or else i wouldn't have bought an otter-box. dell made an excellent job with the phone/ tablet but they just have to work on their product's endurance.

I've been very careful with my streak- haven't gotten a case for it and I don't think I will.
But I've been seeing a lot of these threads where the screen doesn't crack but the lcd beneath it does.
I've also read that people have been successful in getting Dell to replace/repair the unit for free as long as you say you took it out of your pocket and it was cracked and not that you dropped it.

If you are interested here is a guide to stripping down and re-assembling the Dell Streak..
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/1
If you bought your phone direct from dell, around the time when it was first launched in august of last year, and you bought it at the time for the 549 price tag, just call dell and tell them that your screen has a crack in it. Don't tell them how the screen got cracked, and be nice on the phone. I had the same thing happen to mine and called in, and within two days i had a brand new phone in my hand. They did that because they didnt have replacement parts at the time and this was back in December. So hopefully it may work for you. Oh btw, if you have a modded rom on your unit, make sure to restore it to what was on the phone originally.
cracked mine lcd too few days ago. I have just gotten mine replacement streak but not for free , dell charged me for $250 on the word that I have to return the original. But don't have any return label with the replacement so not sure if I need to return the original broken streak. Testing the replacement currently if it is ok.
I ran across this online, it's a screen and digitizer replacement; it seemed like a good price for 159USD. It says it includes "Clear glass panel with transparent screen protection." Does that mean it comes with the Gorilla Glass?
I hope this helps anyone with a broken screen.

I had the worst luck today. It started when I called Dell about a week ago to get a replacement streak because mine would no longer vibrate and the camera "cannot be found" after 3 weeks of use. I missed my package (the replacement) Friday from FedEx because I never received any email regarding shipping status or tracking information; so the delivery was unexpected. Today (Sunday) I drop my already faulty Streak and cracked the inside of the screen and it would no longer display properly. Now I have no idea what to do ? I can't justify paying $250 like prasadKnew and sent my replacement back when the streak is priced as low as $49; in my case $194 + tax brand new/unlocked/no contract from the Dell promotion a month ago. I'm so mad . I don't even know what to do with the replacement now. Do I just ship back the replacement back or do I ship out my faulty/cracked lcd streak back and hear from them later?
The quality is definitely inferior to my HTC phones and I've owned quite a few. I've used and I dropped those phones so many times and I never got any interior damage; only cosmetic. I had no case for those phones either when I dropped it.
Quality is poor compared to htc? Seriously? You have a metal armored phone with a huge screen. It takes less of a fall for the streak screen to crack because it is that much bigger. Sounds to me like maybe you should be more careful.

if its just the glass and not the screen underneath you can pick up the glass for about 30 pound

Based on my experience, yes I find that HTC has a higher quality control over Dell. I'm not entirely basing my opinion on the fault of the cracked LCD screen. That would be too prejudicial. All I can say about my cracked screen is I'm surprised how it's so fragile after the first drop compared to 4 previous HTC products I've owned which took beat downs during rush hour commutes. I'm confused by the contradiction when you say the streak is a "metal armored phone with a huge screen" and then leading to how it's more fragile because of a bigger screen? Compared to the HD2 I've owned for almost a year, the Dell Streak is not that much heavier or even bulkier. I've found my T-Mobile Wing to be much bulkier and that phone took a beating from me for over a year. The same goes with my HTC Blackstone and my first HTC phone; the HTC Excalibur. I questioned the quality issue because my camera no longer works and my phone no longer vibrates after 3 weeks of use.
Don't get me wrong eSZee, I still love my Streak because of the screen size, the battery life, and it's uniqueness. That is the reason why I purchase it and gave away my HD2 to a relative. However, the quality is still shotty to me compared to HTC phones.
As for Mike, I searched the forum and found multiple sites that sell the LCD screen; some without the glass and ones with it. The lowest price I've found so far was $80 or so with everything. It's sold on eBay and the link was posted by another member from this forum. I might go with that route.
The issue I'm facing is whether I should try to have Dell cover it by sending out my broken Dell and keeping the replacement until they call me or ship the replacement back and fix my broken phone myself? The conflict comes in when the fact is I called originally to get my streak fixed/replaced because it would no longer vibrate and my camera no longer can be found (dual LED doesn't work either). I highly doubt Dell will fix those issues under warranty first and then ship it back to me with a cracked LCD screen so I can fix it myself. I don't want to pay for the LCD repair from Dell because that would cost too much compared to a DIY method. I also can't fix the phone first and then ship it back for repair because Dell might argue I voided the warranty by opening it up.

Checking to see if anyone knows of or has a source (other than eBay) for screen replacements for the focus. I've got a badly cracked screen that I'd like to replace, but samsung direct wants $156 and the cheapest on ebay is $98.xx coming from overseas. Everyone I found via google is in the $120's give or take now as well.
Kindof kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the 10% off ebay coupon and there were US sources at $98.
Just bought 2 screens from a wholesaler. Installed one and its working great. Need sim card replacement tray now. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone has a link please let me know.

I'd like to know where you got the screens too.
www.wholesalegadgetparts.com, US wholesaler, $99.00 bucks, BBB rated etc... I just ordered one.
******** UPDATE, this seller is legit. Fast shipping, and the new digitizer/screen is flawless.
How about some info on disassembly and replacement?
So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).

I hope this helps people out there make their own replacements a success!
I have a cracked glass, the LCD and digitizer are fine. I have found someone that sells the outer glass for $16. My question is if I can get the digitizer off the old glass and onto the new one.
I honestly don't want to spend $100 on a screen replacement when I can buy a slightly used one for $150...

On ebay is 12dlls the glass, somebody told me that they fix it in a mall were i am from (Mexico) they heat the screen to disolve the glue but i'm not sure about this. The total of the price should be like 35dlls the replacement.
Hey y'all..
I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. It's one clean crack and doesn't seem to be speaking so it's not THAT big of a deal..just annoying.
So without going to sprint and talking about insurance and paying the money for all that.. What are my options?
Get a new screen and repair myself?
Is there a service that would do it for me if I sent it to them? Although that would leave me without a phone.
Any ideas?

seriously its insurance or buy a new One.
actually I believe you can replace the digitizer alone. I just replaced the digitizer on a raxr maxx which doesn't even have an ifixit manual, because its thought to be impossible. on the razr they use a full sheet of adhesive to attach the lcd to the digitizer. All the htc phones I have opened use 1mm or 2mm strips around the edges. if you use a heat gun or possibly a hair dryer you should be able to pull the broken glass away from lcd. make sure to always pull away from phone, don't pry against lcd. My conclusion is that if you can buy the parts separate they can be replaced. haven't priced glass but bet its under $20 usd. and even if you damage the housing ive seen it listed for $35 usd. also buy a good spudger and some guitar picks work well. here is the kit I have http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BHLVHVC/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. it will take time but better than buying new. also im not a phone tech, I have no training. Im not arguing with kraizk it is widely regarded as unrepairable so ultimately its your choice, good luck!
I don't carry insurance either, it's a horrible ripoff. There is a thread around someone where breaking down the math of it, it's a pretty bad bet especially as the phone ages. I would buy one on eBay, it can be slightly used or even a new one will be cheaper than buying it at retail. I would stick with a top rated seller, I have learned over the years it's worth a little extra. Dealing with stupid sellers who claim good ESN's even though it's not a clean esn it's just a hassle to deal with. Once you get your new phone, your one with the cracked screen will have a clean ESN on it. Sell it as is on eBay with the clean esn. It will still have plenty of value. If you play your cards right there is no reason you can't keep your replacement cost at the same as the insurance deductible of $150 not to mention the fact you can pick what phone you get vs getting a refurb. You also aren't paying the monthly premium. That is how I would go about it if it was me because having a clean ESN will keep it's value up & it still works. Dump it as is or your going to be kicking yourself trying to repair it. Good Luck
