No names when receiving a call - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi all,
When I receive a call I don't see a name with the number, although the name is in my contacts!
I tried several things, I removed all duplicates, reinstalled everything after hard reset and reinstalled backup, but not working.
Who can help me out?

do you have contacts stored in the SIM card?

No, my sim is empty!

i used to get the same problem when i had my contacts saved on both the SIM and the device

I used to suffer from that when I was using the T-mobile ROM!
There was a process "filesys.exe" that was taking up to 99% of CPU time, which prevents the PHONE application from searching the contacts & matching the calling number with the name!

And how do I stop the process? Where can I even see what process is going on?

you can run a program called Super Tasks that shows you the CPU usage of every running process.
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...talog=30&txtSearch=cpu+usage&pc=list[6]_title
you can work on the trial & see if any process is taking up the whole CPU time.
For me, I solved this issue by doing a hard reset! It was really something weird! :?

need help with turning on my htc8925 tilt

i installed some programs the htc today menu, and slick. now my phone will not turn on. i backed up my phone and did a hard reset then i reinstalled all of my programs.
then when i turn off the phone i can not turn it back on again. it is a cycle and i am assuming it is because of the programs on my phone. what can i do?
also i have a very important number stored on my phone and not onto my sim, i dialed it once but the other person did not pick up. is there a way i can retreive that number? AT&T support says they can not give me any info

Hard Reset.
Install one program and see if you can turn it off and back on. Continue until you find the program that is causing you problems. Once it doesn't turn back on then you know it was the last program you installed.
As for the phone number. Have you logged into your Online Account Manager and checked to see of the number you called is showing yet (Not sure if it logs when a call is not completed - Did voicemail pick up or did you hang up during the ringing?):
Voice & Data Usage > Minute Usage by Phone Number > Click on the phone number you want to see the phone log of.

lost all my contacts

Just curious if this happend to anyone else. I went to add a new phone number on my phone this morning, but I saw that all my contacts are now labeled "Unknown".
I lost all my contacts.
I did look at my missed calls over the night and there were 3. two friends and it said what time. An "Unknown" number and didn't say what time they called. I can delete the missed calls, but I cannot delete the "Unknown" missed call.
Is it possible someone called my phone and killed my contacts? I only can get the numbers from my history of calls. which is around 10-15 numbers.
Don't know if anyone can help or not. I do have the tilt and am with t-mobile.
Dutty's latest
i sure hope someone can help you cuz i went through a similar experience TWICE in the last year since i've had my kaiser (last time was TWO DAYS AGO when my beta-based ROM expired cuz of a builtin timebomb). so i feel your pain, but to a minimum degree because i was fortunate enough to have recent backups so i didn't lose more than 10 days of texts, call history, and contacts in both my experiences.
i hope you find a way out...but believe me! there WILL BE a next time! like it or not, data loss is sure to happen to everyone, possibly many times, in some form over their lifetimes.
fortunately, with windows mobile, you can use "pimbackup" (just search for it on xda!) to make regular backups to your memory card of all such otherwise-difficult-to-backup pieces of data like texts, call history, and contacts. in my opinion, it is a much more reliable and manageable way to take backups of precious information than using activesync! in case you are unable to recover your data this time, at least take precautions now to be prepared next time it happens!
IDEA!!! try pimbackup right NOW...look at its logs carefully when it is performing the backup to see how many contacts and call records it can retrieve...who knows, maybe it can read the database in case the OS's native routines are shot. if you think pimbackup is able to see data that your OS can't, then you might want to think about restoring the backup to see if it fixes things...
good luck!
thanks, i will try this when i get home from work today.
I keep all my contacts on my sim card. not sure if it can grab that.

1 unread SMS?

A few days ago I was deleting msg's and think I deleted one as it came in without reading it (might have been an MMS), anyway since then I have got 1 unread msg showing even though there are none.
I have tried the reset counter from the thread below and indeed that does reset the counter to zero but then when I receive a new msg the counter displays 2 and then is back to reporting the 1 extra msg.
Any ideas?

Maybe it's a voicemail mesage.
No it can't be a voicemail as there is a diff counter for them.
Perhaps you are in a weak signal area. Sometimes this happens. Something to do with a delay between towers or something. Also try ringing your provider. Maybe it's a fault their end.
Have you swap your sim in an other phone? (had the same issue after a swap)
Do you see your message in sms folder (in 'deleted items' for example)?
if it's the case, click on this message and choose 'Move...' and put it in 'Inbox'...it did the trick for me...
stuntdouble - I have checked with provider and they say it's not there end.
arnoo - I don't have another phone to try at the moment but it defo shows up as being in the inbox even though there are no unread messages in there.
happened to me once, tried searching the whole registry for possible removing it similar to what you did. I think that entry is reading from somewhere.
Gave it up, I simply backup my PIM and wipe them clean by HR.
(I did the same, deleting something too fast when it's still in transit I guess).
Happens to me too.
It screws up my Garmin Mobile XT when it happens too. I have to reformat.
search for UnreadCountv1.0
I've used this for my Tilt2 and seen posts that it works for the Kaiser.
Just run the exe on your device and soft reset.

[Q] Why do my SMS messages get stuck?

Whenever I send an SMS it is as if I can only send 1 per day. Let me explain, I can send an SMS fine but when I get a reply back then my response to it just sits in the outbox.
I exit the SMS program and then I cannot open it again (the option does not respond, as if it has hung, system works otherwise though) so I have to power off the phone, remove battery, remove SIM and then power it on with no SIM. I can then access the SMS program.
If I then delete the SMS from the Outbox and Deleted Items and Sent Items then sometimes (and only sometimes) the notification that the SMS has been sent will magically pop up. If that does not work then I power on the phone with a SIM and sometimes opening and closing the SMS program magically sends it, sometimes sending an SMS to myself fixes it and other times it just does not work at all and is very infuriating.
I am using the stock ROM and WM 6.1 with no additional programs installed.
What can I do to fix this and be able to send SMS messages normally? I even took my SIM out and put it in my old SE phone and I can SMS without any problems, only on the X1
Thanks.

That sounds strange indeed. Has it always been this way or did this error appear lately? If it appeared just lately I would try a hard reset. But if the problem has always been there I would try another sim card (demand a replacement from your service provider). How old ist your sim card? Old sim cards can cause several strange problems when used in current phones. It's easily possible that the card works with your old phone but causes troubles in combination with your X1.
The funny thing is that I took it to the Sony shop (I live in Thailand) and they tried a different SIM from a different network and it worked without any problems. They then put my SIM back in and it worked also.
My question is why does my SIM card not work well with the X1? I have always had this SMS problem since I got the phone (used).
Thanks for replying.

Something like that was happened to me too when I'm still using the stock ROM. Some people said that it is the problem with threaded view in WM6.1. But it ould be because of too many messages in my inbox or outbox. Since I'd like archive my messages, I backed up the message to new ROM and this problem never ever happpened again.
I recommend the following steps to narrow down the reason for this problem.
1. Perform a hard reset (or even reflash the stock rom)
2. Try using the phone on factory defaults (do not restore anything from a backup) for several days
3. If you still experience the problems try deactivating the threaded view for sms
4. Still not solved > order a new sim card
5. Received a new sim to no avail > might be a hardware defect
A few words concerning sim cards. Believe me, they can cause strange problems. There are people that used to have bad signal reception. After they ordered a new sim the problems were gone. Or cases where people could not get a working data connection > new sim solved it.
By the way, you told it in your post too:
"The funny thing is that I took it to the Sony shop (I live in Thailand) and they tried a different SIM from a different network and it worked without any problems. They then put my SIM back in and it worked also."
It seems that your sim card blocks the sms sending process from time to time. So to keep this post short, no matter to what result the above mentioned steps lead I would go for a new sim anyway.
I do indeed use threaded conversations. Stupid question, but how do I turn threaded conversation mode off? This is the first thing I want to try.
Thanks.

I have never tried this before. To look for how to do all of them. Googlefirst.
use registry editor, add
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled
binaryvalue set to 1.

Click to collapse
Hmmmm, I was hoping it would be easier than that.
Thanks anyway.

To disable threaded view use SK Tools, Advanced Config or Xperia Tweak. The later two are freeware and downloadable here at XDA.

Question Not receiving texts

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this, I searched other threads for also other models of Xiaomi phones but everything I tried is not helping.
Basically, I'm not receiving all texts. I am receiving some (from certain networks), but not receiving the rest, including authentication codes from all services/apps. My phone is up to date software wise (MIUI 14.0.3). My messaging app is Google Messages and that's what was installed as default when I bought the phone. This has been going on for a few days, can't tell how long exactly but I noticed on Friday. Things I've tried so far:
- the standard of rebooting the phone, reinserting sim card, deleting cache in messaging app, putting my simcard into the 2nd slot
- trying a different messaging app,
- checking the smsc number,
- making sure my messaging app has autostart on,
- making sure miui optimisation is on in developer settings (saw it worked for some people - not me unforch)
- contacted my network provider who weren't able to help me troubleshoot this as everything seems fine on their end.
Does anyone else have an idea what could help? I'm trying to avoid doing a factory reset cause if this doesn't work I'll have to log into my apps again and a lot of them require a verification sms to come through to log in and obviously these are not coming through so I'll be stuck
Many thanks
