wot is that?

@ Scooby
There are several was of doing it, by far the easiest is using BAL666's method. Do a search for his name and you'll find it, eventually.
@ Sexiali
Nicestart is a password utility which offers a skinable password screen as well an enhanced security such as access history logging, locking on a set number of faied attempts, mapping hardware buttons to numbers etc. It looks better too.

nice

Pug,
The photo you included along with this posting of your PDA with the black and lightning, is that screen setup through one of the piece of software you mention, through Nicestart or somthing else?

To be honest I can't remember where the image came from, I think it was through the setup program. Definately not an extra skin off their website. I'll have a look through my archives as I've been using an Exec for the last 6 months and it would have been a long time before that since I modded my extended ROM on the Alpine, which I don't own anymore sorry. Watch this space.

Wiki: WM5 Buggy Thrid Party Software

I have started this thread so that we can document some intresting behavior of third party software under our WM5 Build. As well as WM5 Behavior.
We need to be fair as we all know that the WM5 version that we have has not been released and some software might work on WM5 but has not been built for it.
I have called it Buggy and maybe that is not a good choice of words, however maybe it is.
So if you wrote the software it was not my or any other person who posts here intention to clam that its is your software or even WM5 that is buggy.
Fact is somehow something is wrong.
I hope that owners of Offical versions of WM5 Can verify if they have found the same issues.

I use 5.13 and it works fine...
NiceStart. It doesn't work at all when the PPC's turned on - I only get the WM5 password screen. Then again I don't need it anymore since the SMS messages don't turn on the unit, they just send the sound, a big improvement!
1-Pass Version 1.1.1
1-Pass is a nice application that allows you to lock your device and be able to enter it either by using preset hardware key combinations or a numaric password.
I have used this back with rom 1.06 and like it.
It seems that it conflicts with the built in appliacton password found under
Start -> settings -> Password
They both seem to use the same space as when you configure I-Pass for a password you also set the Password application.
Thus after a reboot or sleep mode you are confronted with the Password application screen and can not use the I-pass screen. Hardware keys that you set can not be used. (thus you need to finger around and enter the numeric password.

Hey Guys!
There's just one "bug" that really anoys me:
On startup (after device was in standby for a longer time) WM 5.0 needs some time to react. I think, this is no problem of software but of storage. This thought seems to be right, because the more storage the today Pluginns need, the longer it takes until it reacts. I have uninstalled PocketPlus, because it takes up to 4 (!) seconds on restart. Can you copy that?
Nope, I don't have that problem. I have PocketPlus without any meters, only a few icons and the taskbar battery monitor. I remember I read somewhere here that if you use any of the meters, especially storage meters, it will take time.
Bejewelled 2 doesn't install saying that my version of Windows Mobile is too old...
Also the O2 Application Software supplied with the XDAs doesn't install either, so no ZIP or fax software
Resco Explorer 5.15 works fine though... so I won't upgrade
I can not change the theme of my desktop on WM5, even if i select the theme from SpbPocketPlus, it doesn't change.

Why to upgrade to WM6

Hi, ALL
I have G3 T-Mobile MDA (Wizard), running Wm5 custom ROM from Xelencin and latest Radio ROM.
Also I have installed
SPB Diary, Pocket Plus, Weather, Imageer, Backup
Resco File Explorer
PhotoDialer Plug-in
WM5Storage
MemMaid
Some RSS Reader
iGuidance
MS VoiceCommand 1.5
IMPlus, Skype
Yahoo 2 Go, Google Maps, Live Search
TCPMP
etc
most of these on 2GB miniSD. Everything works. I use most of that from time to time.
I saw faria WM6 ROM. I saw MB Rom, I saw Mun's Rom. My question is - do I need to upgrade to WM6 ? Will it add something, which probably I'm missing ?
Or it is just to have latest Windows Mobile OS ?
Second big question - will my apps work with WM6 ?
Also if moderators think this question belongs to Wizard Mobile 6 forum, can you please move it

Do you need to upgrade? Probably not. I will say that most (not all) of the custom roms will give you more space and will run faster than the stock official roms.
Will add something, which you are probably missing? The quick answer is yes. You are missing the frustration that some of us go through with these . Seriously though, its hard to answer it, but for me I find the custom roms more stable than my original Cingular 2.25, faster, gives me more room on the phone itself, and just more fun to play with (but then I'm a geek).
I can't honestly say why the draw to WM6 other than the geek factor involved and the ability to show friends and coworkers that you are running WM6 (and they don't care anyone or don't even know what you are babbling on about).
I would suggest you at least give Faria's or Molksi's 2.3 and 3.3 ROMs a try even if you aren't interested in WM6. They are VERY nice and stable. But also, understand that you will have to fiddle and tweak with your phone for a day or two to get it back to where you want it.
Second big question - will my apps work with WM6 ?

I've used Spb Backup, Resco Explorer, WM5torage, Memmaid, MS VoiceCommand 1.6 all on Faria's AKU 3.3, WM6 MBE, and Faria's WM6 "the real thing" and they all work.
I'll defer to others on the rest of your list.
I know you didn't list it but, as you are using other spb products,
spb time doesn't fully work
How did you get Yahoo go 2?
double post
I received email with Yahoo go 2 and there was a link. Just went there and install. Dont remember exactly, but something like that
It's only available for smartphones... You don't happen to have a link/file handy? :d
Yahoo Go 2 for smartphones and pocket pc phones:
This is where I got mines from, they had it as an option when it first came out but now it is hidden and they want your phone information to send it to you.
This link will get you the cab. file and the active sync download.

YES!!!!
One of the first cooked ROM's for 750!! This is a good thing for all.
Downloading now.
No Office Mobile
Currious thing happened when I flashed, (SD Method), I have seem to have lost Office. Can't find it anywhere. Any guesses?
Searched again and under the windows folder, there are some blank office files like OneNoteMobile, pword, and pxl. All these I can use, so it seems that the icons for word are missing in the programs folder, but the program itself IS installed. I wonder if the SD flashing method has something to do with it. Will reflash and see.
I too have lost Office programs. I also cant find a battery indicator without going to the power function.
Other than that, this ROM is fast! I will let you know about the stability in a couple of days. But its working great. Thanks
for some reason I have the gay volume icon on my top bar and it keeps on showing my volume as all the way down and I can't hear when people call me

I'm sorry
It's my mistake. I'll fix it quickly.
Thx.

I deleted Palm's BatteryIndicator. It cause a trouble with some key customizer. There are many software to display battery information more accurate.
chakli:
I ported System Files from double_ofour's Wizard ROM Kitchen. Unfortunatelly, I do'nt have TOMTOM.
BTW, I can give other features,
Delete PorkPie service(Auto Configulation for connection settings)
Delete Messaging(Pocket Outlook handles SMS only)
Delete WiredCarKit
Delete VoiceCommand
Does anyone need UltraLite Edition?
P.S.:I've fixed Office Issue, now. And I'll post it later
well I don't care about the battery icon being gone because I use pocket plus 4, but is there anyway you can get rid of the volume icon on top because everytime I touc it, it will mute my phone.
I'm using PocketPlus4, too. The smart scrolling feature is FAST FAST FAST! Amazing! I have Kaiser, but I like it than HTC touch feature. I'm going to cook Kaiser ROM to kill touch driver for PocketPlus4's smart scrolling

is there anyway to get it without using rapidshare... I have got that site to work

I think that Palm hasn't copmplete optimizing OEM package for WM6 yet, because of the OEM packages version 5.1.xx.xx.
It is difficult that all the Palm's features are suited to new AKUs.
To delete Palm's PhoneLookUp, your IM program may work.

Hi, it would be useful if you show us the package tree ^^ ,because i like your rom, but i want it in spanish, then i could make my own spanish lite rom. BTW, do you know how to get rid of all palm phone utility and have the windows default one?
feedback
First of all thx chaimd for your effort and time:
I had some sparetime tonight to flash and test your customrom.
I only flashed your OS and left the orginal (latest) ROW radio, at first all seems okay but I then when driving around I noticed that my navigation software (TomTom 6) was acting weird. Mainly strange (not complete) screen updates, loss of connection to BT GPS and missing parts on the screen. As this is a crucial function on my treo, I did no further testing and flashed back the ROW OS. After this TomTom 6 is functioning normal again.
Guess I will wait a while, till these little speedbumps are history.
Again, thx for your time
Kind regards
marl
I was wondering if you could take a look at an issue for me...
I use a car kit via Bluetooth (Parrot CK3100), and the phonebook doesn't automatically sync from the phone to the car kit correctly. Instead of syncing the phone book, it only syncs contacts from the Speed Dial plugin. Even if I have Speed Dial turned off from the Today Items.
It's obvious that the phone has a working Sim Access Profile (rSAP), since it uploads the carrier name, battery level, and signal level to the kit; it's just pulling phone book entries from the wrong location.
I have no idea even where to point you to, since I have no idea how the inner workings of Windows Mobile mesh together...
Here's to hoping you can come up with something, it would be totally awesome!

RamROM 1.00 --> 1.22WWE + GPS (thaihugo base)

I used thaihugo ROM as base for this. Thanks to thaihugo for providing this.
I added GoogleMaps, YouTubePlay, VicSoft Clear Temp, Adobe Reader LE for Diamond. Replaced current USBTool with modaco ShiftPack.Liberate. This fixes the Registry setting needed to install cabs. The only registry setting you need to do is changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang value to your keyboard. You can find those values in plirom 2.00 thread.
I have also placed links to USBTool under Programs\Comm (thaihugo ROM has here) and also under SnapVue Settings (ShiftPack.Liberate does this). Here in SnapVue Settings you will see a link to SoftReset too. This is exactly what Shift.Liberate does currently whenever you liberate using modaco's procedure.
Memory:
Free Storage: 28.58 MB
Free Program: 21.21 MB
Here is the link to download RUU_Signed.nbh
Use CustomRUU.exe that is available in thaihugo and plirom threads.
The next upgrades to this ROM are HTC Voice Recorder, once I figure out how to enable the microphone, .NET 3.5, Screen Capture, and HTC official YouTube Player replacing YouTubePlay. I am also planing to remove original calculator with 1-Calc.
Disclaimer: This is a cooked ROM and is supported by neither Microsoft nor HTC. Neither I nor the ones from who I learned how to cook should be held responsible for any malfunctions or irreversible damage that may cause by flashing this ROM to the device. Use at your own risk. Bottom line, I take no responsibility for the damages that may happen to your device by flashing this ROM.
Thanks

Hi Martiare
There are two ways
1. you could use external bluetooth receiver that your vista side could use to connect using BlueTooth or USB, easiest and fastest way of doing it.
2. If you wish to use internal GPS of Shift then, you need to install either thaihugo's ROM, pliROM or RamROM, which can be downloaded from this forum (search is your friend). Once you install them, you have multiple options, but the one I use is using Franson's GPSGate Client for Vista and WinMo. I bought this for $49 and I feel good investment. Install GPSGatePPC on WinMo side, and GPSGate on Vista side. Configure GPSGatePPC to work on ActiveSync. Configure GPSGate to receive signals from ActiveSync. And install Maps software such as AutoRoute or Micosoft Streets, Earthmate etc. on Vista side and thats all.
Thanks

First of all let me thank you and all other "cookers" for your continuous effort. I've been following the birth and the growth of quite a high number of ROM's, and I still can't understand if it's a good or a bad thing... I mean: surely everyone that flashes a newly cooked ROM acts as a beta-tester for the "chef" and for all other users that don't dare or simply can't flash a new ROM each week. Moreover each new ROM, even if adds some (in)compatibility problem, solves many others (just think about the possibility to use GPS). And this is the good part of the situation.
On the other hand I feel a bit confused. Each new ROM has many good things, but lacks in others, IMO. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but for instance I would really like that PliROM's home could be the standard for each other ROM. And that's just one of the things that I (and each one of us) could point up.
May I suggest to write down a list of the components and let a survey start? If 90 people over 100 should prefer PliROM's interface instead of original Shift one (again: it's just an example), why to continue developping ROMs with other interfaces?
I say this because I'm absolutely unable to cook anything, and I think that many of us can't.
Of course I'll go on flashing new (stable) ROMs, trying to beta-test , at least for a few weeks... than I'll have to go back to work and I wouldn't run the risk anymore to loose data or hardreset
Pure Snapvue
Hi Sai ;
Even though the user interface is really limited , i -personally- prefer using snapvue ...
So ... is there a way for you to
-either let me know how to disable the top bar with the start menu on your liberated rom
or
-cook a rom only cab-install and gps enabled , so that i can go on my own way...
My very best regards
Safak

Because I tried and feel it's user friendly and the key buttons for both contacts and programscan be address. Also, I found it stable too.

For free GPS Tracking in Google Earth, and Google Maps mobile, checkout http://www.reperion.com and choose basic, free download.
You don't need to boot vista to see your realtime tracks, all you have to do is import your Reperion KML network link to Google Mobile Maps !
It will give you much much more than just tracking... check it out

Installed and working. Just one query about the GPS side though.....
I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. After having read the other threads I appreciate you have to stand in the middle of a field for i to pick up the satellites. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still isnt picking them up. Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

Honestly I don't know if they might have removed it. But to be sure, look if you have any data comming in. Do you have any sattelites inview when using HTC GPS util? Look at the sattelite tab.

Thanks Ram and cookers!
Installed and working. Just one query about the GPS side though.....
I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. in HCTC GPS Tool (Settings tab) press Open Button, in the lower part you will see some scrolled text, when you run GPS software for the first time you have to wait for 15-30 minute to recieve the signals, then go to Satellite tab the no. of satellite used must be 3 or more to get your location, thise what I did, hope it is the correct way.

I agree with you completely. I don't think they would have removed it. It may be some issues with the position or something related to GPSGate configuration. I also come into issues where it would take good 15 to 20 minuts to lock my Shift for the first time especially with overcast skies, evenings and inside the building. I may be wrong too, HTC might have removed the GPS altogether in the newer systems, but that would be a drastic step for HTC. If they do so, I would suggest buying RAON Everun and tether it with a Kaiser or Hermes would be cheaper. You would have a GPS receiver on your WinMo, and have bluetooth, SD, Wifi handy and you could connect your Everun to that and it fits in the pocket, eventhough the screen is nearly 5" as opposed to 7". But that is cheaper alternative and runs on more manageable XP. And installing GPSGate on WinMo and XP gives me to have the GPS on bigger screen.
Thanks
Ram
Got the GPS Tool running again. It's hovering on Sat 32 and 14 with the odd scan of no. 1 on its own. Going to leave it on the windowledge overnight as the field isn't really an option!
I'm used to using a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike that takes seconds to find the sats and TomTom on my Hermes in the car and also it's own in-built Toyota Effort. None takes this long to find satellites.
But it is fun, isn't it!!!

Yep, it is kind of slow, once you get the location fixed, and it uses 2 satellites, the things move pretty fast. I have quite a good number of GPS devices, and all of them are pretty fast when compared to this.
Thanks
Ram
So the GPS Tool locked up the WinMob side , it mustn't have liked being left on all night! Pulled the battery and reset. Hey Presto the sky is full of satellites tonight and all is working fine!!!! It takes ages to take its initial reading of where everything is, has a real good think about it and then decides to work.
Now looking forward to any future incarnations.
Many thanks to all

Vario III/Kaiser - Quick Question - Plz see my last post

Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
