The latest Xda IIs System Software
(updated 16:38 18 Oct 05)
New and changed in this version of software, v1.40.237 are:
* O2 Active UI v3.6.024
* Bluetooth build 3900
* Radio build 1.12
* Windows mobile CE version 1.40
* BlackBerry Connect v2.0 for Enterprise Mail (BES)
* Removal of Photo Contacts
Question is , is it any good? i'm using I-mate's latest ROM with UK O2 XDA 2s details in sig, and has many bugs, soft reset after call, cant hear ringtone when being called have to reset, windows media player 10 bugs, texting bugs sometimes uses 3 messages for just 160 characters of text etc..
The WM Player bug is still there. By the way, that deal with 3 msgs for 160 characters is to do with Unicode. Go to Messaging, click on options-accounts-text messages and untick use unicode when necessary. Worked for me when I had my IIs

Thank you so much!!!! your better than O2!! which isn't hard.
Debating the need to purchase a dedicated GPS (leaning towards TomTom 730T). Primary use is in rental cars in US & Europe. I currently use google maps (free, plus telenav doesn't support Euorpe) which is somewhat OK for walking around, but does not have features important while driving such as voice prompts, good views for driving, etc. It also seems to be very slow to find sats when first starting up and seems to loose them easier than dedicated units. What experience have others had with using their Kaiser for a GPS while driving? How well does TomTom software work? How does it compare to dedicated TomTom. Other software you'd recommend? Has anyone purchased the US/Canada version and then purchased and used EU maps?
I have read other posts but they seem to focus mostly on getting stuff to work, not on how well it works compared to other alternatives.
Thanks,

I use the TomTom on my phone. It works great. I've never used it in Europe though.
I purchased the European version of TomTom for my Kaiser and then added the USA and South Africa later. I love it! Less stuff to lug around. As far as I know there are no missing features in TomTom on the Kaiser, but I don't own a separate TomTom.
If you go the Kaiser approach, be sure to bring your car charger on every trip! The GPS will eat your battery rather quickly...
x30 versions will have the IQ routes and the "reality view", and, at least for now, the pda version does not have. Besides that, nothing else is different

What is "reality view?"
eskostar, thanks for that. So do you know if Nav 6 is the same as the 720/920?
I believe he's referring to lane guidance which, if it works, could be a huge benefit on some interchanges. Instead of hearing 'keep left' it gives a diagram of all the lanes and shows which specific one(s) you should be in. 'keep left' when there are 9 lanes to choose from can be a bit confusing.
Reality view is indeed what has been explained, check the image for an example:

Btw for those who understand french, it seems that TomTom is hinting on a Tom Tom v8 for pda soon, together with Touch Diamond.
http://www.gpsandco.com/articles/newsitem.php?id=5373
I see that's a nice feature. Though I wonder if it would make the maps bigger. Also, I don't know if I'd want to trust it as much as it looks like I would want to since its "real." I will with hold judgement until I can try it in my area.
I use TomTom 6 on my Tytn 2 almost everyday with the UK maps and it performs very well, never crashed once since I had my phone in Nov 07, not had one problem with it.
I also have a dedicated but a little old TomTom Go 700, did a side by side comparison on calculating a route from Wales UK to Italy and the Tytn 2 calculated the route a lot faster, even had much better GPS reception and was faster to lock on to satellites than the dedicated TomTom Go 700
Also the rendering speed of TomTom 6 on my Tytn 2 is very quick, can prove that with a video if required
I will probably never use a dedicated sat nav again because of the convenience of having everything in a small package.
The travel kits consist out of:
Kaiser
TomTom6 6 installed
Maps of the country I have to go loaded on StorageCard
Blueant supertooth light (for handsfree and voice directions).
One gadget, all functions, that's actually the reason WHY I got a Kaiser.
Best of all the supertooth light charges through the same cigarette light USB charger as the Kaiser ---> sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
Here's the version history from TomTom
http://www.tomtom.com/support/product.php?ID=1401&Language=4&FID=6420
Am I correct that the most current version of Nav6 that works on Kaiser is 6.032? If so is it then off the bottom of this list? OR, is there something I'm missing in TT's versioning?
Thanks,
... well though I'm able to read German - the link may not be useful to others...
It s/b in English. Is it coming up German for you?
Ja - Yes it does - strange isn't it
new york maps
Does anyone have the maps for new york to work with tomtom? i found one cab file, but it seems to be the tri-state area, not just new york and its missing most of suffolk county.
thanks
Formatting is a bit quashed, but it's in English...

I use the GPS in my kaiser fairly frequently with google maps. I mostly know where I'm going so haven't felt the need to buy any expensive software, such as Tom Tom, but if I were using it enough to justify that, I'd probably go ahead and buy a stand alone unit for the nice, large screen and not having to worry about draining my phone battery.
One word of caution: Don't try navigating by holding your phone up in front of your face and using the satellite view of google maps! It's not real time...
I bought my ATT Tilt almost exclusively for the GPS. With My job has me traveling all over the lower 48 states in the US, and I use the MSLive search combined with GPS Test for satellite tracking .exclusively. It doesn't have voice prompts, and a few of the other options of the stand alone units. For free and reliable you can't be to picky. There is a UK version also I believe.
I have had two prior TomToms and have donated them to my daughters. I travel a lot (Executive Platinum on American) all over the states and I have converted to TomTom Nav6 on my Tilt. It is WONDERFUL.
I no longer have the extra charger and extra TomTom to worry about leaving in a rental car or wishing that I had it out of my bag already. Or I left it in the hotel cause I was just going out to eat.
I ALWAYS have it now and can use it while WALKING or biking etc.

Until expanding the memory on the WM side is possible, would someone be able to create a completely Bare-bones ROM with only the essentials and where everything else can be installed if the user wants... i'm thinking of:
* WM Player
* Office
* Games
* Redundant themes
* Snapvue
* Windows Live
* Windows Messenger
etc...
This would allow users the flexibility to maximise the space they have for whatever they need...
I'd dearly love to learn how to do this myself, but am too busy planning my wedding at the moment to be able to dedictate enough time to it... will happily donate to a ROM that meets these needs though.
Also, how difficult is getting the 480 x 800 working?

Im kinda upgrading from my wing to a tilt. A friend of a friend lol is selling his he has had for a month for $150 so I had to jump on it at that price.
I was just wanting to know if flashing a new rom on the tilt was pretty much the same on the wing?
And what is a good popular ROM you guys are using?
Thanks!

Best flashing tutorial is here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Go to the rom dev section for roms. One would think that the most popular would have the most hits.
But as in high school, the most popular isn't always the best.
I always think that hits = problems.

Why not try the one it comes with to see how satisfied you are with that first off? I know denko7 has already replied but I was very impressed with his reply to another post relating to bloatware on the Tilt here. I cant really talk with regard to Tilts but as far as official HTC TyTN II ROMs go (perhaps with the keyboard fix on a Tilt), the oldies (WM 6.0) were the goodies.
Indeed -- I took off the bloatware on my stock 6.1 and I'm very happy with the results.
You can always install Manila, etc via CABS later if you decide to give 'em a try.
However, when my warranty runs out, I just might try a ROM or two

Ha Ha, I waited until my warranty ran out too. But I think that if I had known how easy it was and how much, much better my phone was going to run, I might have dared it much earlier.
Good thread idea, tough to answer
There are SO many roms now. Definitely use the stock rom - minus the bloat- for a while and see if there's any thing you want to add.
I would like to know if anyone has a basic tilt rom with some preformance tweaks added? I'm to not interested in flashy, I just want good performance.

Check out NATF's roms, basic AT$T without the crap and fast.
I've had my Tilt for only a couple of weeks. I bought it from a friend for only $90. He upgraded to an iPhone. What programs would you guys consider the bloat that I should get rid of to gain free space?
Bloatware is the stuff AT$T crams into their roms. Someone at AT$T thinks we want this stuff.
Taken form the wiki. With bloatware and without bloatware
AT&T ROM Standard Programs
If you are thinking of sticking with the standard ROM, but getting rid of all the bloatware, here is what you get out of the box with the AT&T ROM both before and after bypassing the (bloatware) customizations. Note this does not include any of the programs on CD that you must install afterwards.
To bypass the customization install, do a hard reset, go through the Windows Mobile initialization steps (Callibrate Screen, Cut and Paste, etc..) then do a soft reset before the AT&T customization install starts.
NOTE - This will reset your device back the the original settings, which means any programs or customization you have made will be lost, including all of your Outlook synced info.
There are several ways to get your data and customizations back including backups, and resyncing, but there are many details to this process and it is beyond the scope of this topic. Your best bet is to decide upfront if you want the Bloatware and move forward from there. To help you decide, here is what you get under the Bloatware/Non Bloatware setups. Keep in mind that many of the programs included as Bloatware are trials, and if there are some you think you may want, you can usually find a link to them somewhere on the forum.

im riding on the hyperdragon roms. They're pretty nice visually and the touch flow is nice on the fingers. Another alternative is to find a fast rom and load up SPB mobile shell which just runs on top of your rom but works nice for navigation. then again you probably know about the mobile shell so i'd recommend hyperdragon.
Downloading the newest Hyperdragon rom right now. Will it work with TMobile after i install this rom??
hmmm thats a good question. The service with T-mobile might coincide with the radio that the rom installs. Maybe you can cross-check your old radio with radios that work with the new Hyperdragon rom.
or flash a suitable radio that fits both requirments. maybe someone more knowledgabe will reply as well. lol
haha yeah im gonna read some wikis so i will know whats going on. Flashing the Wing was easy. I have tried twice now with the tilt and im not getting anywhere. Stays on 0% then i have to take the battery out.
im just curious isnt the t-mobile wing that new phone with google andriod? isnt it supposed to be really good? alot of people here have spent time trying to mimic is operating system on the tilt.
its just my opinion but i think the tilt is overrated, i've had it for about 6 months.
The Wing is prolly 2 years old now. The new Google phone is simply called the G1. Im starting to think im just going to sell the tilt and upgrade to the G1.
