Since Xelencin is leaving us, I'm starting a thread to figure out what the T-Mobile customizations do, so that we can figure out which ones we would like to have on our devices. Then, by extracting the extended_rom with Total Commander, one can just install the desired ones and not others. This is really the cleanest way.
Here is the complete list:
AutoRun.exe (104KB) Program to automatically install
Config.txt (2KB) List of contents of extended_rom, probably part of autorun.exe
cusTSK.exe (6KB) Installs T-Mobile Theme (\Windows\T-Mobile.tsk) This can probably be used to install any theme.
Enable_NTIZ_.cab (2KB) Network time enable
MP_Customization_TMOUSA_Wizard(AKU2.x)_060615_noJava.CAB (58KB) Configures ArcSoft MMS

Thanks
I'll try to keep the first post up-to-date for one-stop shopping.

So which ones did you pick. I am so not patient (waiting on summiter or xelin).
thanks
Please and also i did the same thing you did with the spb back up
but every time i ran it. The connection manager instead of displaying 8 icons it kept displaying seven (it did not have the new ir thingy)
Still using Xelencin's
I'm still using Xelencin's extended rom (with 2.26), nothing from the 2.26; I'm waiting to figure out what all these things are before trying to construct a superior set of customizations to his.
If you have Winrar, you can open each can and see if there's a _setup.xml file. If so, use the built-in viewer to see what they do. Most of them are commented but some you can just look at the file and get an idea of what it installs or what settings it adds/sets.

Hesh You sound like you have already been messing with em. Please help us and post some of your findings for us. That way we wont be repeating the same thing all the time.

Thanks Hesh!
I went through most of the mysterious ones and was able to figure out some of them, enough so that I am going to try a Mr. Clean T-Mo when I get the time.
Here is my plan:
MP_CVSDcpl_20060220.cab (96KB) (voicetagcpl.cpl)
MP_SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB (76KB) (Enable smart dialing)
MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Voice-CV-TMUS-060404.CAB (72KB) Adds MMS Inbox, Voice Tag control panel, Voice Dialing startup shortcut, ClearVue PDF shortcut, MIDlet Manager shortcut, Voice Speed Dial shortcut.

Well it looks like prestonmcafee already has them pretty much documented. The only thing I think is wrong is the cusTSK.exe. I think that's just an app to launch tasks. If you look at the config.txt, it runs T-Mobile.tsk. I'm not sure what this is and I'm not ready to try it yet
As far as the unknown ones go, there's no .xml file to view so it's basically a crap shoot as to what they do. Too bad they don't name these cabs things that actually make sense
For those interested, I've pulled files from both the T-Mobile and Summiter's Extended ROMs to get what I need at the bare minimum. Here's the file and a description of the cabs. These are the only cabs I've loaded from the extended ROMs so far and I'm quite happy with them.
P_Conn_CWS_APR12_Wizard.cab <-- Cingular's network/GPRS settings
P_DefaultHtm_Favorite_Feb13_Wizard.CAB <-- Cingular's favorites and default homepage
P_Edge_Icon.sa.CAB <-- Edge Icon over the signal strength (T-Mobile)
P_PIE_View_Setting.CAB <-- Cingular's IE settings
P_REG_Wiz_Cingular_Mar02.cab <-- Cingular Inbox settings
P_RingTone_Wiz_Cingular_Feb13.CAB <-- Cingular ringtones
Signed_OZPocketPC.Cab <-- Oz IM client for T-Mobile (though I haven't figured out how to get it to work on Cingular's network or wifi, I ended up installing Agile Messenger instead)
Summ.cab <-- Useful reghacks from Summiter's cooked Cingular ROM. Includes:
[list:329e81587e]Enable Indicator
Enable 802.11g
Disable SMS message sent notification
Disable Start Menu animation
Enable Cleartype in Landscape mode
[/list:u:329e81587e]
So far, so good
So I installed the minimal T-Mobile extended ROM, at least minimal for me, without MMS, WAP or IM stuff, but with T-Mobile Hotspots since I use them. I kept three files from Xelencin
MP_CVSDcpl_20060220.cab (96KB)
MP_SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB (76KB)
MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Voice-CV-TMUS-060404.CAB (72KB)
P_Other_Conn_Settings.CAB (4KB) GPRS, SMS registry settings
P_SecurityPolicy.CAB (73KB)
PP_GPRSandEGDE_DTMF.CAB (71KB) dialtone fix?
Signed_wispa_ppc_release.CAB (173KB) Hotspot manager
TMOUS_Camera_Profile_reg_0414_signed.CAB (71KB) camera updater
Certification_Disable.cab (71KB)
Registry_Tweaks_2.5.cab (2KB)
Total_Commander.cab (394KB)
So far, the only negative is that I can't figure out how to remove Comm Manager from the tray; the old fix (eliminating init_tray in Startup) eliminates the battery symbol but not Comm Manager. This comm manager icon changes color when you are connected to activesync or wifi.
All the regular stuff I use seems to work, so far. The MDA seems a bit more zippy, but that could be wishful thinking.
I've posted this extended ROM at
http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/MDA/Extended_Rom.zip
Note that it doesn't run itself; you have to interrupt the customization of the 2.26 ROM by a soft reset with the stylus during the 3 second warning, then copy each of the programs in this ROM to the minisd (or whereever you like) and run them.

i read else where that you would have to uninstall the hotspot utility program, for the tray icon to go away. (my suggestion, i dont know that much but try using one from an old build.)
Thanks for the extended cab. now i can get things back to normal.

It could very well be the Hotspot utitlity that makes it appear. I did not install it and I only have the battery icon in my tray.
PLease what is the size limit for the extended rom. I am trying to make mine so that i can flash it to my vario. I dont want nothing to wrong.
Thanks a whole lot.
i also read somewhere that you can use the extended rom to pack (store cabs) so that incase you need to do a hard reset. Your popular programs can be restored easily.
No Size Limit
Actually, the extended ROM has no relevant size limit -- it is just a set of programs in ROM that you can choose to install or not when you are doing a hard reset. When you flash your ROM with the new operating system, it includes these additional programs in ROM; you don't get to choose unless you build another flasher. What this thread is about is choosing not to install all the programs T-Mobile would like you to install; this has the advantage of leaving you more regular memory and having fewer running programs, as well as avoiding T-Mobile's ugly phone screen. T-Mobile's programs will still reside in ROM, unavailable since they weren't installed.
In case I'm not being clear, the point is that the extended ROM contains programs that install just like any other programs; you can install them either from the extended rom or directly by copying the cab file to your device. There is no difference, except that the latter procedure lets you choose not to install some of them; installing from extended ROM is an all or none approach.
With that said, there are some people who try to use the ROM (read only memory) to store something else but your question suggests you aren't one of them. I'm not either; that is an arcane subject. And Xelencin created his own flasher so that he picked what went into extended ROM; that is beyond my current ability. But my approach -- use 2.26, then install a subset of the extended ROM programs -- has precisely the same result as his, but is more labor intensive.
Still no problems
I have tested pretty thoroughly now and still have no problems with my subset.
Thanks for the insight about the Hotspot utility; I could roll back to the previous one, but for now I'll suffer the icon. I have only one spot on the tray left, though.
Trust me Xelecin is not leaving us. He's just reading and reading and do his works. Please be patient guys...

Thank you so much for your reply.
Ok here is what i did. I started out not wanting to install all the carbage that t-mobile makes you install. Then i got the thinking that. Even if u dont install everything, you have waisted space. the stuff you dont install (the cabs) just reside in the extended rom. (not sure but heared you cant mess with the extended rom on the vario itself). So did my research and decided to do some rom cooking. I thought it was hard at first, but in the time i put my first post today, which was about 1 hour ago, i learnt all i need to know and did it too.
Now in my extended rom i dont have the crap that i dont need, I have all i need and so the next time i do a hard reset, i let the extended rom autoupdate do its thing cause it only installs what i want it too.
Now for key programs like spb pocket e.t.c i wanted them to auto install too so that i wont have to hassle my self to do them mannually.
any ways here is what i did.
I put prestonmcafee specs for the 2.6 with all of Xelencin recomended cabs together, then made a flashable extended rom of em

I will call this the Xelencin 2.26 custom extended rom thats if he dosent mind

Can someone attach this or point me in the direction to the download?
Or anything like this would be great! (Preferably with these buttons)
I think that is also called "duttythroy 3g comm manager (working).cab"?! cos this is what I installed on my TyTN and the comm mgr looks the same.
I also think that CAB is available via this forum.
Comm Manager
I installed this and now my comm manager is comletley screwed it only shows 1 icon the active sync icon I uninstalled it and it was stil lthe same it even screwed up the HTC home ! Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this ?
Try Schap's Advanced Configuration tool. Allows you to control the buttons on your Comm Manager. Available here via search.
Same Issue When using Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool... if any button is increased it only shows one button (ACTIVE SYNC) Button
Try going into task manager & stopping the comm manager first. Make sur it's not running as a process.
Then try this: http://rapidshare.com/files/42771601/JUVS_HTC_CommManager_Kaizer_Fix.cab (Standard)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=44284&d=1184759208 (+3G Button)
After installing, but before launching it, Use the Configuration tool to make sure it shows everything, then reset & launch the comm manager.
Did you guys soft reset... that's probably the problem. If you guys did, then I advise uninstalling the Comm manager, soft reset, then installing it, then soft reset again.
BTW, that's the best comm manager I have ever used, it still lets you use the Wifi turn on and off button ony our keyboard.
I use this version of Schen's 10 button manager on my Kaiser. There is one reg setting needed to fix the wi-fi power key;
Fix WLAN Key function in Comm Manager
You can fix wifi with this registry setting :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN
[Default]=”\Windows\WLanMgr.exe"
[DeviceName]="{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\TNETW12511"

Which one?
I've just tried this, and I get the new 3G button appearing in the comms panel (with the word 3G underneath, but no icon showing) but it doesn't seem to do anything - should it? I'm running the stock T-mobile Vario III ROM at present.
Oh, and talking of that Wi-Fi on/off function on the keyboard, does anyone know if that, and the 'open folder' key (Fn+RightArrow), can be reassigned? The Wi-Fi one might be handier to use as a Bluetooth on/off function for me, and the 'open folder' key calls File Explorer by default but I'd prefer it to call Total Commander if possible.

Comm Manager 10 - 3G issue/question
I loaded this version, fixed the WiFi registry entry and all worked. After turning off 3G, my phone still functioned. After turning ON 3G, my phone failed to connect and showed no service (due to the fact that I am out of a 3G zone). It appears that this forces 3G mode when it should force AUTO imho. A load of a Version 2.4.3 Band Switch allowed Auto to be re-enabled. See latest Band Switch posts at http://www.ipmart-forum.com/

I do see the same thing with the 3G switch, it's 3G or nothing where it should be "Auto". I too added "Bandswitch" 2.4.3, now a commercial app, and find it good as a enhanced comm manager.

This application should (which Runs from the PC) should put all the Three settings and others you need) if the auto configuration program does not pick your SIM up.
RapidShare Link

I don't think you need to update the radio but v1.00.25.05 is recommended
You can find it here Diamond Radios

What advantage is there to using this if your phone has automatically configured itself? Does it optimise the settings?
I have given my HTC Touch Dimaond 2 hand et to HTC service center for service the following problems in the handset, since it is still covers the warranty period
1. Black circle dots in the screen suddenly
2. Phone is getting hanged frequetly..while incoming call, it's keep on ringing and not responding and need to soft reset/remove the battery.
Before I given to them, my phone is upgraded with Offical HTC Windows 6.5 ROM (while I bought , i think it has been installed with OS 6.1) and they have told they will wipe out all the data during the service and I too agreed.
I have got my handset serviced and noticed all the screen look and feel are different and below is the Software information. I want to know what is the current OS it's using. Whether it's latest version?
I like some of the settings in the current ROM and not sure whether it's latest one or need to upgrade it to the newer version. And i want to go with the offical HTC Latest ROM version and also should consider the newer ROM version should not have any performance issue for this model.
Since my mother is using this phone, she might not be in position to tweak it frequenlty.
I want to know what current OS version has been installed? Is there any where I can able to see it?
Another doubt:
I have seen lot of threads here on disabling the data connection and using the WIFI alone. Last month, I have turned on my WIFI connection and browsed a lot and even downloaded with my WIFI, but not sure when this data connection is automatically turned on and I had to pay a $50 for 10 MB..
After that I afarid to browse even with WIFI. IS there any way to make sure completely turn off the data connection and use WIFI always? even I used TD2 tools, but not sue how this data connection is turning on..

thanks bruce. Is it Windows 6.5 or 6.5.5?
And in this ROM, I couldn't able to see the list of running/active programs.
In my previous ROM (as in signature), in the top right corner I have arrow and it will show the list of active running applications to switch. But I am not having this in thies latest OS. Whether the options are changes or any other way we can switch to different running application. In task manager, I can ableto see all the running application, but I can't switch over to other applications.

If your start menu is on the bottom, its 6.5.3
MS removed the Task Manager accessible from the top right corner in 6.5.3.
I suggest using Quick Menu, which will place an expandable Windows like start menu accessible from the top left corner (and hardware key if you map it) and lists your running programs to switch or kill.
Bruce,
My Start button is at top left croner.

How to do map it? What program I need to select in the quick menu?
I have another doubt, my battery is very hot even I browse for short while.
Before I don't have this issue. Whether the OS upgrade will cause this issue?
Or I need to change the battery?
