Hi,
May I ask: I upgraded to the latest 2.17 ROM. Are we sure that the device remains CID unlocked? If I decide to downgrade, shall I CID Unlock again?
I upgarded from the NL shipped TMo ROM, but I want to keep the extended ROM. Do I just copy the CABs and execute them or is there any dedicated too?

Just after I got my 8125 I upgraded the ROM to 2.25. I didn't unlock anything. Its running fine. Now I'm interested to try a different ROM. I understand I will need to CID unlock my device. Here is where I'm confused, if it is possible or not after upgrading to 2.25? Can I follow the steps to downgrade my ROM and unlock the CID?
I have searched and been reading alot but I'm still a bit confused, so please be gentle as I ask for some guidance. I have experience modifying Motorola phones, but am new to PocketPC. Any help is appreciated.
Good if you can provide info on how you upgraded your unit (e.g. with the providers official ROM or with the software and ROMS in this forum, etc)
And how you intended to down grade your ROM? You also mentioned the 'steps' to follow, of which steps are you refering to?
And, why do you want to have your phone CID unlocked? CID lock will not bug most people unless they are going for a ROM flashing. CID lock is different from `phone lock` or `SIM lock`.
Just incase you are wonder, what is CID, ... don't ask me. I have no idea at all Seriously.
I upgraded a stock 8125 (G3) to the Cingular 2.25 official ROM. I would like to install a summiter or mr. clean custom ROM. Searching through the messages here I'm unable to determine for certain if I'm able to CID unlock from 2.25 on my own (for free), but I get the impression I cannot. I just want to know for sure before attempting anything further.
I won't need step-by-step instruction...just need to know what my options are at this point.
Last nite I tried to install the summiter ROM without the bootloader. And the install went fine and completed 100% without error. But after the reboot I found the flash didn't hold, it was basically like a hard reset.
First download and install the Cingular 1.8 Rom
If that works fine then you should be able to CID unlock.
If not then try downloading and installing the "Button 1.05" Rom.
If either of these dowgrades worked for you, searck for LokiWiz (use ver 0.2 for CID unlock) and follwo the instructions.
Next if you want to SIM Unlock find LokWiz MSL 0.3 as it does a better SIM unlock than the older LokiWiz. Again follow the instructions.
Now you should be good..
Sorry if I wasn't clear, but its the downgrading I am concerned about. I'm not certain if it is possible to downgrade (including bootloader) from 2.25 without the device being CID unlocked..?

Yeah, that much I do understand. I definately want to avoid paying to unlock.
Thanks for your help! I'll let you know how it goes.
Success! SIM/CID unlocked.
IPL 2.24
SPL 2.24
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.24.10.1
Thanks kyphur, for taking a moment to point a noob down the right path.
I recently upgraded my US MDA to 2.21. I think I'm stuck there because I didn't unlock it beforhand. Can I still upgrade (or downgrade) to another version... official or not?
You'll always be able to upgrade using Official Roms also if you check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088
You'll see a way to upgrade Radio, OS & extended Rom without upgrading IPL/SPL (bootloader) which is where the CID resides.
BTW, where did you get T-Mobile UK 2.26 Rom?
I think I got confused.. It's actually 2.21.2.6.
Thanks for the link I'll give it a try!
after i installed the official TMobile 2.21.2.108 rom version, i am not able to unlock the unit.
I would like to try and install original Qtek/HTC roms or Custom Roms created by other users.
Is there a way to unlock the Vario when it has the 2.21 rom installed? A friend of mine has an older version, and he can do whatever he wants with it.
Are you talking about CID or SIM unlock?
It would help also if you told us what unlocker software and it's version you used.

You cannot CID unlock 2.xx Roms yet.
1) You simply had to unlock before you upgraded to 2.21
2) Or lookup the thread for upgrading your device without CID unlock.

As I have been disussing in another post, i am considering updating my Orange SPV M700 to the Dopod ROM in order to get Phonepad.
If I do this, please can someone tell me where I can find a copy of the original Orange ROM (1.23 - English), and whether I will be able to reinstall this.
Also, is it possible to reverse the CID/SIM unlock that it is necessary to perform to install the Dopod ROM initially.
Thanks
Hi
You can upgrade your rom using SSPL method without CID unlocking.
Hello!
Just installed the latest Xelencin's ROM ( http://xelencin.shackspace.com/wizard/index.html ) that has a built in CID UnLocking mechanism. My question is if I want to try and install Molski's ROM, will it install or not? Or I have to apply CID UnLock procedure everytime when I install a ROM?
As long as you don't go back to a 1.x ROM, you can flash and reflash to your heart's content... But its good to go back to a stable ROM (like the T-Mobile 2.26 Ship) just to have a stable base for the new ROM to work off of (or thats my understanding ). If you do go back down to a 1.x ROM for some reason, then you do need to do the CID unlock procedure again (including loading a good 2.x ROM at the end so you have IPL and SPL at 2.x).
Thanks for your quick reply. I asked this question since I want to compare Faria, Xelencin, and Molski ROM's and see which one is the best and fastest and in which one does the video recording does not do any flickering.
OK one more time. I don't need to CID UnLock anymore as long as I stay on 2.xx ROM. So if I go back to the T-Mobile Original ROM, it will not remove the CID UnLocking right?

Correct. MFRAZZZ had a great point, it is generally a good idea to flash the official TMobile between ROM trials, for some reason the MDA seems happier and the phone doesn't seem to develop a "hangover". Also, when you flash, let the phone sit a few minutes before you start poking around, again they seem happier when they get a chance to rest a little bit. Urban legend? Maybe. Fewer problems? Definately.
