Unlocking doesn't work - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

after i installed the official TMobile 2.21.2.108 rom version, i am not able to unlock the unit.
I would like to try and install original Qtek/HTC roms or Custom Roms created by other users.
Is there a way to unlock the Vario when it has the 2.21 rom installed? A friend of mine has an older version, and he can do whatever he wants with it.

Are you talking about CID or SIM unlock?
It would help also if you told us what unlocker software and it's version you used.

You cannot CID unlock 2.xx Roms yet.
1) You simply had to unlock before you upgraded to 2.21
2) Or lookup the thread for upgrading your device without CID unlock.

Downgrading ROM

Hi,
May I ask: I upgraded to the latest 2.17 ROM. Are we sure that the device remains CID unlocked? If I decide to downgrade, shall I CID Unlock again?
I upgarded from the NL shipped TMo ROM, but I want to keep the extended ROM. Do I just copy the CABs and execute them or is there any dedicated too?

CID Unlocking and ROM info on uk Tmobile Vario

OK I'm thinking about trying a different ROM, I have alot of programs installed that are included in some of the ROM's on here, so I guessing I would save some memory by installing a custom ROM? also removes some of the Tmobile crap? Will it be safe to install any ROM on here?
I dont understand all the different names (aku etc)
I have SIM unlocked it, but not tried to CID unlock it yet.
I have IPL/SPL 2.21 on the loader screen, is this a G3 model?
Installed with latest Tmobile ROM (This was wireless G enabled)
I have searched on here for info, and found some, but because its a delicate procedure, I would like to be sure before I risk it.
Can someone tell me how to CID unlock it and install a ROM?
Should I even bother, or stick with the Tmobile one?
Thanks

Ciao,
this is what you have to do:
1) Check whether your phone is G3 or G4 (reset and look at IPL/SPL version: 2.xx.0001->G4; 2.xx->G3)
2) If it is G4: you cannot CID unlock it. To install a different rom, then, you must follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043
3) If it is G3 AND rom version is >= 2.21 (equal or greater than 2.21): cannot be CID unlocked, use the same tutorial as for G4.
4) If it is G3 AND rom version is < 2.21 (minor than 2.21): follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=263116 to learn how to downgrade the rom and CID unlock the phone.

MDA ROM Questions
Thank you, Risidoro, for the excellent advice.
I have a couple of follow-up questions:
Background: My T-Mo (USA) MDA has SPL/IPL 2.26, OS 2.26.10.2 (determined as per your advice). I'd like to install a different "unrestricted" ROM (mainly to get access to JAVA and to impove performance).
Here are the questions:
1. The current ROM (2.26) is not the original software of my MDA: it's the official update released by T-Mo a couple of months ago (I installed it myself). I don't know by now what was the orginal version. It was probably a much earlier version, perhaps 1.17. So, my first question is: does it matter what the original version was, or it only matters what the current version is? Can I fry the phone if I follow your advice for case 3?
2. T-Mo unlocked the phone for me (they do it for its customers after a while). However, I don't know if it's been both SIM-unlocked and CID-unlocked; or just SIM-unlocked. How do I find out? I did run lokiwiz on it (just in case) but I have no idea if it succeded.
3. After running lokiwiz, I tried to install QTek 9100 ROM with push mail, shipping (I found it on the web, and it claimed to be for a shipping QTeck; so, I thought it's a pretty safe ROM). It states that its version is 2.17.7.102. However, the installation failed: it got to the three-colored screen and stopped there. The device is OK though (after soft reset), just runs the previous software 2.26. What does it tell us? And does it make sense at all to "upgrade" to a lower version just to get an unlocked JAVA-running device? Or you'd recommend a different ROM (which one?)?
Many thanks,
LKMDA

SPL:1.08
OS:1.8.11.1
and i decided to flash the radio rom 2.47.11 and now it freezes when i try to enter in my password at start up..i read that what i need to do is get it into bootloader and flash a 2.x rom on it but when i try to pres the reset button and the 2 buttons on the right side it just normally starts up..also how would i upgrade to a 2.x rom..or is there any way to downgrade back to the stock radio rom? also my phone is unlocked
thanks
keith
edit:
could i downlod the RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship.exe rom and flash that onto my phone and have it work...still cant figure out how to get the bootloader screen to come up

CID unlock it while it is still working with your current ROM
IPL:1.08
SPL:1.08
OS:1.8.11.1
Then stick Molskis G3 ROM on it and you will be sorted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=274316
for more info.
woudl i be able to go to htc.com and upgrade do the rom upgrade there without havin to cid unlock?
Yes, you can upgrade a Cing 8125 with the officially released Rom (as posted on HTC's Website) without CID unlocking your device.
i do not need to upgrade the IPL/SPL first since i have 1.08?

Official Rom Updates include the IPL/SPL. If you download and flash the Cingular 2.25 Rom you will have IPL/SPL 2.25 after the flash.
is that good or would i want to cid unlock my phone first?

Keith,
If you plan to install cooked Roms then you should CID unlock your phone. Technically CID Unlocking voids your warranty (though I had no problems getting warranty exchange on two previous phones that were CID unlocked).
The main reason to CID Unlock is that you can then install most (generally all) Roms that exist for your device. The only exception would be a G4 only Rom (which has the G4 IPL/SPL only) as your phone is a G3.
If you don't CID unlock then you can't install non-cingular Roms that include IPL/SPL so basically you would have to cook your own Rom if T-Mobile released an OS update that you wanted to use.
I would suggest you do some more reading before you CID unlock or flash anything else to your device.
ok bro thanks for the detailed explanation. I will.def do a lot more reading before I flash my phone or cid unlock it..this is a great forum full of useful information

OS Version??

I have applied the ROM's from Molski AKU 3.0.0 and have the newest radio 2.61 but when I boot it says that I have OS version 1.8.11.1 is that correct or is there a newer version. Also can someone outline the most stable of WM6 ROM's and maybe even links to there locations.
TIA

No, I don't believe that is the proper OS version contained in Molski's ROM.
Do you have a G3 or G4?
If you have a G3 did you follow EVERY step in the Definitive Guide to Unlocking and Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards sticky post?
If you have a G4 did you go to the IMEI website (not sure of exact address but it is all over the forum) and CID unlock your phone? (This is the only currently known way to CID unlock a G4 device, using the G3 method will brick your phone)
If you are NOT CID unlocked you cannot install a custom ROM, you will only be able to install Official Roms released by your carrier. The phone may go through the steps and look like it is working but nothing will be overwritten and you will reboot with your previous rom, possibly with settings and data loss.
As far as WM6 roms go, scan the headlines of the first couple pages and you can find that answer for yourself by reading the ROM specific threads. Every user has different wants and needs and as such everyone will have different opinions about which ROM is "the Best' or "Most Stable". Note that all AKU 3.3 and WM6 roms have issues in one form or another, they haven't been released by carriers yet because they aren't stable. Read the threads to see if the known issues affect whether or not upgrading to one of them would be a good move for you.
As always if you aren't prepared for your device to be ruined you shouldn't be flashing at all. Granted flashing is relatively safe if you follow the proper steps for your specific device, most people like to jump in with both feet and skip they highly important part about reading and educating yourself first. I am not accusing you of doing this, but since your question seems to directly relate to an unlocking issue...
OK I have CID Unlocked as I am using a cingular 8125 on T-mobile without issue and I beleive it did flash correctly as I get the molski splash screen and the IPL/SPL were upgraded just not the OS. I have been doing ROM upgrades on other platforms of devices like the razor and the IPAQ H6315 so I think this is working correctly. I also was able to upgrade the radio from 2.?? to 2.47.1 to 2.61.1 without issue.
Am I Missing something. I used the lokiwiz ver 3a to unlock it.
Thanks for the feedback. Like I said I am not new to the upgrading just new to this platform(HTC Wizard)

Yes you did something wrong....If the OS won't flash you're not CID-unlocked! Follow the sticky post by the letter (it mentions version 2b, not 3a). And make sure you have a G3 before downgrading. For G4 look at G4 section.

you only need to SIM unlock to use a cingular phone on TMobile.
SIM unlock DOES NOT EQUAL CID unlock.
CID unlock allows you to flash non carrier ROMS into your phone.
Also Lokiwiz 2b is the recommended version for unlocking. I have read where people using other versions said it was successful when it actually wasn't. They tried using 2b and had success.
you guys are great I did follow the insturctions with the correct version and it worked like a charm. Now on to flashing WM6.
