ActiveSync USB connection problems - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

After upgrading an i-Mate PDA2K (PH20B 0 B WWE E CDL__001 1.40.00 0 0 1.12.00 12.00) to WM5 BA TuMa v1.3 Release, ActiveSync via USB does not connect successfully.
Have tried all of the following without success:
- hard reset PDA;
- re-flash PDA, tried over 8 different WM5 ROM (including Logout, ArtZ, Ivan) all with the same problem;
- deleted all previous partnerships;
- Windows SP2 firewall disabled;
- set remote-NDIS host to use server-assigned IP address;
- reset IP on host computer (i.e. netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt);
- uninstall/reinstallation of ActiveSync 4.1;
- uninstall/reinstallation of ActiveSync 4.2 beta;
- uninstall/reinstalled USB controller drivers;
This problem was experienced on two separate computers, none of which are running any software that modify the standard windows networking software.
When placed in cradle, ActiveSync on device reports that device is connecting, but, eventually fails with support code: 0x85020010.
Interestingly, when device is restored back to original shipped WM2K3SE ROM (PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200.exe), ActiveSync can connect successfully again via USB.
Any other suggestions to get ActiveSync via USB working under WM5?
Also, is it normal that once a BA has been upgraded to WM5, that you can no longer use BaUpgradeUt.exe and must always use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe for future flashing? I lost the ability to use BaUpgradeUt.exe after the first upgrade.

Oops!
I forgot about the Firewall Client of Microsoft ISA Server 2004! Although it was disabled, it still must have been interfering with ActiveSync.
Uninstalling this ISA Firewall client software and restarting ActiveSync solved the problem.

O2 XDA-2i Original CD-ROM disk - Can't install

When I try to install original XDA2i software on my PCs (running both Win XP Pro SP2 and Win 2003 Server Ent.) - AppSuite O2 WWE v1.0.0.4.exe, it prompts that 'In order to complete your installation please perform soft reset of your XDA2i device'.
Actual seoft reset doen net change anything and installation routine just quits and that's it. And it does not matter whether XDA2i is on the cradle or not, result is the same.
Do I do something wrong?
Is there any other alternative driver source to enable XDA2i interface on Win XP system?

Downgrade from WM6 to WM2003SE activesync problem

i'm really keen to get this issue fixed.. any suggestions would be appreciated.
i have just downgraded from WM6 to WM2003SE (o2 XDA offical rom 1.40 for AUS) and i cannot sync the device anymore.
i have completely set the device back to it's original state, ext rom, main rom, radio rom. the PDA itself works fine, no issues there.
i receive an error when i try to sync with my laptop.. (which it used to sync with when i put WM6 on the device).
the error is - cannot verify the version of activesync on your device, a program such as a firewall may be blocking a port activesync uses to connect to your device, you may need to upgrade to a more recent version or activesync
i have removed activesync, deleted all the registry entries, folders and files relating to activesync that i could find. reinstalled activesync, still no luck.
-> i can get the device to sync with my desktop without any problems (i never used the desktop to sync to it when WM6 was installed)
however all my data is on the laptop.
Any ideas ?
update
here is an extract from the log..

-> i can't get into the screen to clear the storage and hive..
i can get into bootloader.. can't get it to work when i press power, reset, camera and record.. just goes into bootloader.. or the numbers come up on the bottom..
could there be some residual information left behind from the previous install of WM6 ??
how do i set the version no manually ? is this done in the PDA registry ??
I don't remeber having this problem. All you can do it try to downgrade ActiveSync to one of the older versions.

Missing Serial USB Sync Option

I cannot sync with my PC via USB since upgrading to WM6.1. When I go into ActiveSync in my PDA and select => Connections, there is an option to "Synchronize all PCs using this connection:" when cradled. The options are:
115200 Default
19200 Default
38400 Default
57600 Default
It's missing "USB". To get "USB" to appear, I have to go into => Settings => System => USB to PC and select "Enable advanced network functionality". However, if I enable this functionality, my PDA cannot connect with my PC. I know that in the past, it has to be disabled. However, if I disable it, I don't get the "USB" option in ActiveSync as mentioned in the first sentence.
Is there such a thing as a Serial USB cab file fix to make this option appear? I've also read that I need AKU 2.3 to have this option. I'm not sure what AKU means, but my OS is 5.2.19209 (Build 19209.1.0.2). I believe AKU means (Build xxxxx.2.3.x).
I'm using Vista 64 with Windows Mobile Device Center. Any suggestions?
I finally found the solution here...

No USB Connection

Hi,
I have a Diamond which I've recently flashed with Gen.Y's R5 NLD rom and radio 1.17
At first everything was fine. However, since a few days when I connect the diamond to my (windows 7 x64) PC I get a message "USB Device not recognized". I've reinstalled Mobile Device center to no avail.
I've also tried unchecking "Enable advanced network functionality", but that neither helped.
Luckily I can synchronize activesync through bluetooth, but it's really slow, also for files.
Internet connection through USB works fine though.
Anybody got an idea what I could do?
here to help
1. make sure you have the latest windows mobile device center
2. plug the device into usb port
3. go to control panel administrative tools - computer management - device manager
4. click on universal serial bus controllers and uninstall any usb root hubs and usb composite device
5. unplug the device
6. restart the computer
7. plug in your device

unable to access use activesync & also wifi is not working.

On my mobile I am facing problem where in I am not able to use activesync when I am connecting to PC. I have tried different machines and cables as well. not sure if the ROM which I have installed has done anything...
ROM Version - DONsalariROM WWE
Radio version - 1.13.25.24[/COLOR]
if the phone is set to act as usbdrive for the pc you need to disable that to connect to activesync
