Is there a way to backup everything before upgrade the rom so I dont have to reload all apps and settings?
Spb Backup?
is there a crack for it
Don't !!!
When I used a backup manager, I totally messed up my ROM.
I didn't pass it's bootscreen anymore, and ended up bringing it to a store to restore the ROM, because I couldn't syns it anymore with ActiveSync.
Just manually back up your files and settings!
RE
So what are the steps to manually backup settings, & voice speed dial
You can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.

Thank you
so the pim.vol is where the contacts are stored? nice..
would it be smarter to copy to sim card ?
I tried copying the pim.vol but it tells me that the file is in use? how do i back it up?

You have to use total commander or gsfinder (must haves and both free, i prefer gsfinder) on the device to do it. When you reset you have to rename pim.vol to say pim.vo and them copy and paste it from your storage card.

The problem wasn't so much that you tried to restore a backup, the problem was that you tried to restore a FULL backup. If you had used a backup manager that allowed custom restorations from the backup file then you would've been able to restore just the files without also restoring the registry keys and settings which is probably what killed your phone.

Hello,
Some time ago, I had a problem with phone freezing on the IPL/SPL screen after flashing. I have solved it by creating and restoring SD-backup. Everything is OK, but now when I enter bootloader, it still asks me to restore SD image with that countdown despite the fact that I've already formatted SD after restoring the backup. It isn't any error, as the phone gets into the bootloader mode after countdown. However, I still want to ged rid of this, because I once accidentally pressed Voice command two times when I wanted to enter bootloader and Oops - it began formatting whole BINFS. So I had to flash ROM and everything else again which was very annoying. So how can I get rid of that screen?
That means that the first 0x200 bytes of your SD still have the SD backup information. If you have a card-writer you can fix it by getting a hex-editor program and make a file with, lets say... 0x10000 bytes of nulls (zeros), and then use a tool by itsme called psdwrite to write that file to the start of the card.
Then i think by using it like that in Wizard the WM OS asks to format it.
good luck
PS:
Do you have a backup of that SD backup? I think it's the most important thing a Wizard user can do is to keep an image of the entire phone. Don't get rid of it!
EDIT:
Actually, you don't need a card writer because psdwrite can use your PPC as one Just be sure to list all devices to know which is the Wizard
hmm I've already formatted a card, so the backup is gone but I can make another backup.. Can I use that psdwrite to restore a SD backup into some file I can store into my desktop PC? Because I need to use the SD normally.. I mean, I backup files from SD, format it, make SD backup again, then use the psdwrite to extract that backup from card, then use psdwrite to "clean" the card and format it and restore backed-up files..

Exactly what i did
I made a backup with r2sd all and then used psdread.exe to copy it to my PC (where it's quite safe, including a CD backup). If i ever come to need it i simply use psdwrite.exe to pass it back to the SD and use it to restore my Wizard
THX.
Could you pls. post the link to the psdwrite?
EDIT: I found something at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=224536&highlight=psdwrite . Is it current or is there any new version?

I'd advise you to read the wiki and also browse through wilem's (itsme) site and look for the latest package of his itsutils

Ok, I have the PSDread. How many bytes should I copy from SD to BIN file to get entire SD backup from card?

I can't recall exactly as i'm at work now but the mtty program should display the backup size.
Another solution is to go to the Typhoon wiki in this forum and make a sum of all the areas of the ROM/DOC... or i can give a more precise answer later on when i get home
Ok, I'll wait.. So far I have made backup of first 145 MBytes (that should be enough) but exact value would be appreciated.

Ok, my dump is exactly 73.927.168 bytes so i guess that looking around that location you might see the end of the file.
Saving about 75/80MB of the dump will probably include all the data but the really best option is to blank the SD card before making the backup and then see where the last bytes are and the just crop.
In the end it doesn't really matter the bytes after the end since the phone won't use them at all
cheers

i made the same mistake first time I used it. It will say backup finished but just above it there will be an error saying storage not found. You manually have to change it to internal storage. So sorry, it didn't backup anything.
after copying the file pim.vol, where to put it?
do you have any idea to restore text messages?
thanks a lot

i save everytime 2 copys from the pim.vol [email protected] & [email protected] PC,
when i reBuild (after Hardreset) my Device,
just rename the existing pim.vol (as you want) for example mip
then copy the pim.vol which previously has been saved with the contacts,
take a softreset, delete the renamed pim(mip).vol
DONE.

Greetings,
I'm about to HardSPL my Xperia and flash a custom rom afterwards. I've got a lot of apps installed on my memory card, and a lot of them on the phone itself aswell. After HardSPL...etc, will everything dissapear, or only the apps on the phone itself? Also, is there any way of backing them up so I don't have to manually reinstall all of them when I get the new rom installed?
(ie, would cuting and pasting the Program Files folder to the storage card work)
Cheers,
SebK

nope...all stays after hardSPL but not after flashing......
need more info: then search
Really? When I open X1_HardSPL_v1 it says: installing this update will delete all the information on your pda phone...
It will delete the information ON THE PHONE... not on the SD card.
That means SMS, emails, any images or anything that you haven't saved to the SD card.
The SD card doesn't get wiped as part of a ROM update.

I see. But is there an easy way to backup contacts/sms/softwares on the phone so I can restore them later once I installed the rom?
Found PIM Backup 2.8 to backup my contacts, mesages...etc.
Now is there a way I can backup my installed softwares so I don't have to manualy re-install them once the rom is installed?
Yes, but don't
Here's my problem: I used PIMbackup to backup my data before flashing but stupidly I saved the PIM file on the root of storage card so yeah it's lost after flashing. I've tried recovering it with a software but couldn't find the PIM file.
But maybe there's some hope: I also copied all of the files and folders from my phone before flashing. You know, folders like My Windows Mobile-Based Mobile, Business, etc. Do they contain data for my contacts and messages? If yes, where? Thanks.
problems solved for contacts. it's in the file called pim.vol now how about recovering messages?

Download Appbak from the Play Store. The app detects .bak files and restores it.

This is not a rom.
Hello patskishan,
Just found a way to use Restore feature in Xiaomi.
No need of third party apps or anything.
Use local backup feature as u have used normally. Now you will find that file in MIUI folder, find this folder in both Internal Storage and in SD card (if you have inserted SD card). If SD card used than file will be in MIUI>backup>AllBackup , and if no SD card then the file will be saved in MIUI internal storage (directoty will be same)
((i suggest if u use SD card then also search in both storages in internal as well as SD card, it can go anywhere but generally SD card if used))
Now, alongwith your .bak file you will be seeing a .xml file⬅This xml file is of huge importance. Copy this also with your .bak file.
When you create a local backup the last folder in which the file is saved, is a folder named after date on which you performed this backup action.
For safety purpose copy the folder as it is i.e. don't change the name of folder having name as date, after copying save it where ever u want (if in Internal, move to anywhere in SD or in computer/ & if already in SD then no problem)
Now take a new Mi phone (or perform format on your old phone depending on your situation),
Now after formatting, go in MIUI folder (either in Internal or SD card ((if used)) ), paste your backup files in MIUI>backup>AllBackup. Now open Local backup feature.
As u open u will be able to see app data files with some MB's. Click that/those file(s). As you click it, a a new page will open with Restore option.
Thanx.
