my O2 XDA IIi is getting stuck when an incoming call comes - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

my O2 XDA IIi is getting stuck when an incoming call comes. this does not happen normally. but now two or three times a day. if it get stuck i have to do a soft reset. then it comes to normal. it just been a month after i bought the phone. i have done a hard reset also. but still this happens. i don’t keep the programs running when i am not using those programs. can anyone please tell me why this is happening and what the solution for this.

What version firmware are you using? Give us some more info and we might be able to help.

I have looked around on the internet on this one. Many people are suggesting that when their XDA2i/Alpine model locks up during or, more commonly, after an incoming phone call, it is to do with their SD card. Apparently the unit has a brief moment of intensive processing at the end of a call, and this can co-incide with high read transfer rates by the card. There are 2 solutions; 1) Buy an MMC card instead (cheaper than SD but slower transfer rate, so not so good for video etc) or 2) eject the card if you are expecting a call. I would also recommend running Thai Pocket PC cleaner over your device to clear out any "dead wood" that may be taking up valuable operating memory.

I've noticed that calls really kill the XDA's processing ability for a second or two when you actually pick up or hang up... Even with the device stuck into Turbo mode. I get crashes on my Alpine sometimes, and that's even without an SD card in the slot (which I've had no prior problems with whilst using it, it's not that new )
Curious problem this, I'll be interested to see if a solution is found in the near future.

I know that . after you connect your PPC to PC by sync cable and then have problem. and during the time connecting to PC you can not listen to the music or any incoming call. To solve this problem is to by a new cable mate by HTC.
if you dont have free time for bying a new one, after connect to PC please soft reset your PPC. if you have skill you can fix your cable -thead of cable (do the same HTC).

What are you talking about? The Sync cable is only a USB cable with a custom plug on one end...

XDAIIi Locking up

Hi, my XDAIIi locks after a call most times I have upgraded the ROM to the latested on this site which is higher than the XDA repair centre can offer. I am getting to the point of using this as a PDA and sat Nav only and buy a phone to talk on. is there any golden rules that I should be doing to keep it from locking up all the time. I have also done a hard reset and used the code 0506 to not loag the O2 junk.
Any Ideas before I turn this in to a PDA only?????????????
yes
you need to get a faster sd card this is a known problem on the 2i
buy a transcend 80x card and you will be fine ...but it must be 80x, has been found to work well

Hi I do have a 1G 60X card but we have two other XDAIIi at work both only running standard set up with no card and they have the same issues with locking up. My phone is now a Nokia 6310i currently until I can find a fix as again I have missed a number of important calls even know the phone was on my deskin the usb cradle. which is not what I wanted.
All ideas please.

Diamond doesn't hook up with network service

Hi all,
I'm having problems with my HTC diamond, which I hope you don't mind me dumping here for advice.
From one minute to the other, my Diamond suddenly stopped connecting to my provider's network. That is, I cannot make phonecalls, send sms, etc. In the task-bar, there's now an antenna-icon with an exclamation mark. If I remove the SIM card and slide it into another phone, there's no such problems.
Here's what I've already tried to do -- without any results:
1.) call my provider, they said the SIM should be fine, it's registered as active (this makes sense, considering the SIM is working properly in another phone and other SIM cards do not work on the Diamond phone either.)
2.) switch network selection to 'manual'. This keeps giving an error message, saying that the device can't read the network settings ("try again later").
3.) soft reset (red button on the back)
4.) hard reset (volume button + enter button + red button)
5.) hard reset (volume button + enter button + red button) including NAND format.
6.) re-installing the 1.39 ROM (available at HTC.com)
7.) (out of sheer desparation) hard SPL (olinex)
8.) tried to downgrade to the 1.34 ROM (after hard SPL), but failed (froze)
Some possibly interesting information:
1.) I was running TomTom 7.0 navigation software, the back of the Diamond got quite warm (which I know is normal)
2.) The Diamond was hooked up to a universal 5V charger for a car.
3.) I can't get a GPS lock anymore (e.g. with Googlemaps, TomTom)
I'm quite sure that the problem lies within the device, not in the network settings.
Some left-over hypotheses:
1.) I blew up a chip using a universal 5V charger (perhaps it had too high a peak-voltage).
2.) A chip was destroyed by the heat of running TomTom for an hour straight.
But honestly, I don't know very much about this all. Hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Sven
i think this is a "feature" of the Diamond
Mine will randomly loose signal for 30secs - 1 min, then pop back
Mine's failed to pop back for about four days now ;-)
I called HTC. After running through all the check-ups they decided it probably needed repair. They're picking it up today.
i have the exact same problems you listed, im on t mobile but my phone does not pick up any networks. i eventually found out that i needed to plug in my phone to my charger for it to detect a service but i was still getting many dropped calls. did you just call HTC to see if they could fix it? im starting to give up after trying almost everything that you listed, good luck fixing it as i am in the same boat as you
The same problem here...But, my diamond is already in the service... Will wait a few weeks and if you want I will let you know what was the problem. When it happened I was using duffy's rom, I think 2,9 version. Maybe...if you were with the same, might be something wrong there. But one thing is sure...when I get my phone back FOR SURE I will put the original ROM without messing around. I recomend you the same!
Good luck!

TYTN 2 Freezing/ Scrambled screen

Ive had my tytn 2 for a little over a month now, and I've noticed something when I'm using the phone for heavy texting. After a while, the phone will more or less freeze. The chime stops sounding for a new text, however, the phone continues to operate, and will recieve calls. Also, when the alert stops sounding, if I close the text messaging and return to the today screen, the screen is all scrambled. I have done a few hard resets now to try and clear the problem. I am going to be unable to return the phone to the place I bought it from, as we had a disagreement over the last phone I purchased through them(long story). The touch screen still works on the today screen, and if you know where to push, it will still open programs, just everything looks like snow....
Now, I have WM 6.1 on it(factory rom) ROM version 3.29.422.1 WWE, the ROM date is 05/20/08. The radio version is 1.70.18.02. The phone is used on a T-mobile affiliate(IWireless) network. The techs there are idiots, and I don't think they could dial with this let alone tell me how to fix it....
My previous phone was a T-mobile MDA, which I did love. I know about using different ROMS, Im just not sure how/which one to use on my TYTN 2. HELP ME PLEASE!
anybody have this problem too? it is getting incredibly irritating. I called tech support last night, and the people that I talked to had no idea what I was even talking about. It almost seems as if there is a lag in the programs. I occasionaly get a screen that is telling me that tmail.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. i let it send the error report, but the text program stays open.
Any help would be appreciated!
have you tried to reflash to the factory rom?
Can you warranty it with HTC?
Sounds like a harware problem -- specifically the cable that connects the keyboard is either loosly connected or damaged.
Try to get service directly through HTC -- but if you can't you might want to open it up and see if the cable is seated properly
im not sure it it is a hardware problem, as the phone will go skitzo on me even if I open the keyboard and leave it open. it usually would only do it when im texting, but it did it today, when the phone was on silent, I switched it back to on, and read a text message(did not open it), and when I tried to close the text and return to the today screen, it froze up again, and I had to do a soft reset. im really thinking its a software issue...
I would try to reflash, I had a ROM on mine that had the same problem, I did a reflash and never had the problem again.
Is there any way that I can do the reflash and still have the pre-loaded settings from my carrier? I'm thinking that I can't, but is there a place that I can be pointed to to get a copy of how to do the re-flash? It's got WM 6.1 Professional on it, and it is a branded copy(maybe part of the problem?). Obviously, I need to take some time to write down all of the settings for internet and such...
Are you talking about the network settings or something else? Most ROM's have a connection wizard that will setup network and MMS settings.
mostly the settings for the mms messages, and the internet settings. when I flashed a new rom to my mda, I had to manually put them in, the auto wizards wouldn't work.

O2 XDA Stellar: Booting problem following Windows Live install

Hi guys, need your help.
Short version:
i own the XDA Stellar, running vanilla WM6.0. tried to install Windows Live but had to soft reset before it ended. now stuck at the green boot screen.
what besides hard reseting can i do? i don't mind breaking the device if i have to, but i want my data back. particularly my text messages. everything else that i need is backed up.
while am on the green boot screen, if i receive an sms, the phone actually rings. but thats basically all it does. when i connect the USB to my computer, nothing pops up.
anyway i can get access to the files directory?
what i've tried:
- soft reseting a number of times
- remove SD card
- removing sim card
- removing Battery for a couple of minutes before putting it back in
- connecting USB cable. "nothing pops-up on computer"
- SMSing it. "it rings"
- pressing all buttons on surface of device.
no success
thanks for any help
Long version:
i own the XDA Stellar, running vanilla 6.0. today i downloaded Windows Live for windows mobile to update the one i already had on my device. while it was installing before it reached the end, i got a pop-up telling me that i was running out of space. and it just stayed like that, progress bar wouldn't move. so i went to the device deleted a couple of pictures and tried to cut/paste the voice notes from device to storage card. it refused to allow it. so i decided to soft reset.
when i did soft reset, it got to the green boot screen and is stuck there.
after along wait, i get a white screen telling me the device can't boot because i might have "turned off the device incorrectly" or installed an insecure software and that my only option is to hard reset and lose everything.
while am on the green boot screen, if i receive an sms, the phone actually rings. but thats basically all it does. when i connect the USB to my computer, nothing pops up.
anyway i can get access to the files directory?
Thanks
And no mention of a Hard-Reset?
are you saying that there is absolutely no way to read the memory on the phone beside doing it when the WinMobile OS is running right?
that sounds like a completely stupid design. its like having windows without a start disk that gives you access to a command prompt.
having to lose all your data over some OS data corruption is ridiculous
i would really appreciate it if anyone knows a way, even an expensive one.
i just had text messages from someone dear to me that passed away that i'd rather not lose.
thank you
Some other things to try
Yes you can check whether the sms messages are stored on the sim card (by putting it in another phone/using a sim card reader). On my TyTN II, the SMS Messages are stored there and it's only emails that use phone or memory card memory. You could also try removing the Sim before booting (one thing not on your 'tried' list but if all this fails, the only other thing I can think of short of a hard reset, is contacting Microsoft about their Windows Live software. There's a website for support of these products and Microsoft staff will actually get back to you (I had need to contact them over a bug in the email portion of their software some time ago). Best wishes
seeing as i have over 2000+ messages in there, i don't think the sim card could actually help me in this case.
but thanks anyway
i still can't believe they made a phone with a memory that could only be accessed through the OS

Including any additional way of accessing it uses up more storage memory for the relevant program and on a mobile device (unlike a desktop PC), that's very valuable space. Maybe some of your sms messages (the most important ones) may be on the sim - you have little to loose by checking. What about trying to boot it without the sim card in or contacting Microsoft as I mentioned? Not all your options have run out yet but you seem to write as if they are....

@Flying Kiwi
thanks for replying. i actually did try to boot it without the sim card after you suggested it. it didn't work.
and with regards to contacting Microsoft, i'll give that a go but i doubt they'll be able to help if people here can't. as we all know, XDA Developers kick ass.
with regards to checking the sim for the messages, i don't have a spare phone to try it on just now, and if i remember correctly, sim cards don't usually hold more then 15 text, though i might be wrong.
the thing is, the fact that my phone still rings when it receives a messages, kinda makes me think the OS is partially loading. i was hoping someone could suggest a way for me to force enough of it on to reach my files..
am starting to lose hope.. *sigh*
am really thankful to the people who have replied so far.
P.S. oh yeah, Flying Kiwi, could you give me a link to the WM6 support page that where people actually reply to you since i can't find any support besides that to MSDN account holders, either that or paying £200 for one single phone call that last upto 8 hours at which point it could just end up with them just telling me to hard reset. thanks
can anyone help me out here? anyone with a link or an email address i can get support from Microsoft for WM6?
i have a similar problem, is there anyway to get data from phone if the OS is corrupt and the system is stuck at the green bootup screen?
please say yes.

[Q] Trying to unbrick Kaiser

Hi All,
I've been running the Orange (UK) WM6.1 ROM for months/years without problems and was messing around with some texts and somewhere along the line I have ended up with the standard 4 stripes down the screen and some text top left.
I have scanned the forums here and the wiki and they suggest connecting using USB and running Mtty.exe, however whilst I can connect the phone using USB Activesync won't recognise it and then I get an error from Mtty.exe because it won't recognise the phone.
I have also tried re-intalling the Orange ROM as well as newer roms, but none of them seem to be able to connect to the phone.
Active sync doesn't seem to be able to connect on Win 7 or Win XP despite them syncing fine this morning.
So, any suggestions out there?
I'll do some more searching, but any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Try a new USB cable, I went through 5 in one year, or try flashing via SD card.
Well I tried a couple of different leads and no luck.
I did manage to get some info from mtty.exe, but didn't make sense.
I took my SIM out to use in another phone and having left the battery out for a while, put it back in to try again at getting it to start and it booted fine without any problems.
After a bit of messing around it seems like that the boot problem is either down to a problem with the SD card, SIM or a foreign object in phones casing.
I keep the phone in a pocket of my overals that I use a workshop and occasionally iron filings from a grinder can get into it's working, which is what I think has happened.
ANyway, it's back and working again, only need to keep it going until Orange can get some Desire HDs in
Hi!
Read those threads again, the solution is there.
1.Disable USB connections in Activesync menu (right click on green icon on the tray)-->connection settings-->untick "Allow USB connections"
2.Put your device in bootloader mode (yours is in it)
3.Start to connect it with MTTY to do what you want or just run an official Orange UK ROM update
If everything is fine, your device will be alive again.
After that install Hard-SPL to avoid problems like this.
BR
Scootie
P.S.:Sorry,I didn't read post #3,but it can be useful later.
One more tip:check the camera button.
Thanks Scootie,
I'll try the Hard-SPL thing - the jumping into boot loader seems pretty random, has happened a couple more times and I find I have to pull the battery for several minutes and then try a restart.
The camera button doesn't seem to do much other than what it is supposed to.
Pretty annoying since I have had the phone for 3 years, but have not had signal at home so hardly use it, and now we have signal due to Orange/T-Mobile merger from the beginning of the month the phone fails me :-(
