Ok so I have been looking for an answer for a little bit and have found very little so...
Is it better to load programs onto the phones memory or onto a SD card?
I would think it would take a lot more memory/power to pull files off of a SD card rather than from the device itself, but then you dont have a lot of memory on the phone?
pros and cons of each. THANKS
I put "device" programs (eg quick menu, oto etc) onto main memory and games, apps onto the sd card. That way I figure the apps which are in use alot will already be in memory and easier to open and the apps/games I don't always use can be pulled from storage card when I want to use them.
If you max out the Storage memory on your device, many programs won't be able to run (they still need room to store temp files, etc.), and you'll start getting warnings.
I've found the performance hit in using SD-base applications to be negligible...
You want as much room on your phone as possible. WM will run faster, and if you max out your phone memory, you'll notice a decrease in performance not to mention the low memory warnings you'll get.
The question is do you ever remove your microSD? If you do, you need to install the softwares that you use all the time into the phone memory. Otherwise, I found the performence different is very little between the 2 memory location.

It used to be true with WM2003, but I don't think it applies to WM6. The storage and running memory areas are now separated.
I will try to keep the device memory as free as possible, because the phone will run faster, so only system program will be installed on the device, also programs like pocket cm and worldmate uses more power to startup, so I also put them in the phone and not memory card, as this will create less errors.

I can't figure out is why does my tilt start up after a soft reset with 75MB of free program memory and than by the end of the day it's down to about 59MB and running really slowly. Now I'm talking program memory not storage memory. I know how to close programs and I will have absolutely nothing running.
How I do re-free up the memory I am losing throughout the day? Is there a program or somthing I can download to see what is using up all the memory? I have pocket tools but that don't seem to do much there has to be a better way.
there's a program called Memmaid , can google it, and maybe clearing up your temporary interent files might free up some. Someone more advanced here might be able to give you better idea's i'm still new to the pda world.
I remember the good ole TyTN days when 59MB was more than I had available anytime LOL.
Funny how times change so quickly...
memmaid is just like pocket tools same type of program to free up ram but doesn't seem to accomplish a lot. And trust me my phone is all clear of temp files and internet files...
It has to be something actually running like in the background a program or something just like in windows xp that is using memory while running and doesn't shut down.
no clue huh?
Your phone having "only" 59 MB free isn't going to cause a slowdown. Something else it causing it besides a memory leak.
well there isn't anything really installed on my phone... vibra switch, pocket mechanic, some tcmp thing so i can view you tube and thats it.
There has to be a program that will show me what programs load up on startup and how much memory each program that is running is using in the background of the system. I can't believe no one else has ever wondered why there memory goes down from simple day in usage.
I've just always excepted the fact that I have to do a softreset from time to time. I haven't used it on my TilT but I've always used Oxios on my 8525 for memory management.
MemMaid really gives you a good view of what's running, and a lot of other things. give the 15 day trial a try. (I'm not associated with them; i just like their software.)
In taking a look using memmaid it looks like the shell32 process is what is using all the memory. At start up it's about 559kb by the end of the day its like 8-9MB. Is there anyway to get it to release the ram it's using, I tried ending the process completely suffice to say that ended with me doing a soft reset.
as someone else said 59 megs of ram is plenty.
It is the end of my day and I am at 56 megs of ram and there is absolutely no perceptible difference in performace from this morning when it was soft reset and I have a TON of stuff installed.
Sounds like you have something else going on.
If you did get MemMaid 2.0, it includes a util called Reclaim Ram.
According to the website it: "MemMaid uses a standard Windows Mobile procedure for claiming this memory. However some applications that are not designed to handle this procedure may not respond properly."
I usually see less than a meg recovered when I run it.
When you go online your phone is storing the cookies. Click the internet explorer button and go to menus. Then clear your history and your cookies! That will free probably half of the memory!
Can anyone tell me why i am losing Program Memory whenever i burn a new ROM?
I started off with 110MB of Program memory and now ive got 85MB of Memory after installing.
Anyway of getting the memory?
could it be that different roms utilise different amounts of ram they need to use

If you're loosing memory then you should think of taking some Ginko.
Is there any guide to make big storage for the P3600 and 3600i? before this i got Magician and done the big storage, its really good for device that have little ram space.
IDEA
I did not find that option and it is a big problem
I'm sorry to ask. Now i'm understand what we call it big storage as trinity has 256MB rom then there is no need to make it big storage. thank you all.
Case closed.
ROM is flash. Trinity is short of RAM as some apps like iGO8 strugle to work
allso
itis offent that it signs a low memory mesage and stop worcking ok.
i putt everything on my memo card but still it seems that some app parts are installed on the phone memory
Hi!
Surely you know about the slow typing problem, it is especially apparent when using WM Outlook. I really made me go nuts, but today I found out a rather strange thing - when I just took the memory card (2GB SD) out, the typing become normal! When I plugged it in, it become slow again.
No reset, no turning applications off/on. And it does not matter if some applications are running. And all permanently running applications are installed to the on-board memory.
Do you have any explanation? A fix? Maybe there is a process which tries to access the memory card for some bizarre reason? I faulty driver XY?
Btw, I have ROMeOS v4.21 ROM installed.
Thanks
