Wizard with *.0001 SPL and IPL's - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I used to have a Qtek 9100 until it fell into a cup of coffee. It was running Mr. Clean's ROM after downgrading then upgrading.
Right now i just bought a new XDA O2 (wizard) and it shows up wtih a 2.24.0001 on boot screen. Is there anyway to upgrade this ROM? I am unable to downgrade, and CID unlock.
Has there been any solutions?

At this point the only know ROM restriction has to do with firmware versions of 2.21 and higher. 2.17 and below should be able to downgrade and use Lokiwiz02b to CID unlock.
If you do have a higher version firmware the only unlock choice at this point is paying the £20/$40 to http://www.imei-check.co.uk and getting the phone SIM and CID unlocked in one shot. Hopefully a free version will be forthcoming in the near future, but until then the only way to CID unlock is to pay.
That said, there are not many devices out there with the *.0001 IPL/SPL. I don't know what would happen if a standard ROM is flashed to one of those devices. General belief on the forums is that it would work, but there is always the possibility of failure as revisions to the bootloader hint at hardware revisions.
Of course to disprove this, all we need is one person to successfully flash a custom ROM to a *.0001 IPL/SPL device, but again, I don't know if that's been done. I haven't personally run across any devices running this version of the bootloader.

I appologize.
I meant I have 2.21, not 2.24. I really want Mr. Clean on [email protected]! LOL.. Oh well.. i have to wait then.
Thanks for your hard work. Its much appreciated on your beautiful rom.

Pretty much all of the "bricked" devices on this forum I think have been ones with .0001 IPL/SPL (G4 chip), including mine. I had been discussing in the 2.17 & below downgrade thread that it did not work on my device about a month ago and looking at the "newer" info I would be guessing that the custom rom used in that method did not include a G4 IPL/SPL which is why the device boots up to the flash screen but no further, and then if you loose power, the device no longer turns on, presumably the controls to the power button has changed slightly in the new G4 flash chip and flashing with a rom with only the G3 IPL/SPL stops the power button from working. I can confirm that once I flashed, I could not turn OFF the device either, but I had to take the SIM which meant taking the battery out and the rest is history (or is it brickery?).

If your phone is CID locked (and it is CID locked by default unless you have unlocked it) upgrading to the 2.25 ROM has prevented you from using the free tools on this site to do the unlock.
If you want to CID unlock you will have to pay for the http://imei-check.co.uk service. It claims to do both a SIM and CID unlock and is currently the only known way to CID unlock ROMs that are version 2.21 and higher. If you wait, a free solution will no doubt come out but if you want it now, it's going to cost you £20/$40.
Once the Wizard is CID unlocked you can flash any Wizard ROM you choose to it.

You'll want to flash to the original shipping rom which is on the xda-dev ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
Once that's installed, use awizard or lokiwiz to CID unlock. And once that's done, flash to whichever ROM floats your boat.
Post back here if you run into any snags and can't resolve it reading through the existing messages.
Are you an AIX admin?
ahh yes im now finding on the ftp server
Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
yes linux/UNIX guru (AIX, FreeBSD, SUSE, etc) & phone noob, go figure..
im seeing conflicting statements here, 1 saying i can just downgrade to my shipped rom, the other saying i cant.
i received the phone yesterday, read up on some of the apps to try out, saw the new rom out, decided to try that out, did a soft reset on cingular extrom and then well have what i have, now i wanted to play a little more and test other peoples roms out and yet with no CID lock which would be the default i was under the impression i was SoL.. is that not correct? JUST to reverify with conflicting reports
after doing some more research i'm not sure which way is the accurate position, i read on one forum that there is a locking done once you go past the v2.21 rom so you cant downgrade to then Cid unlock, but then i've read other places you can, im downloading the v1.8.11.1 file and i guess ill find out soon enough

Try it, the worst that will happen is that you get an error saying that you can't flash an older Rom (than what is already installed).
well the update (downgrade to v1.8 shipped rom from 2.25) util is at 75% atm, .. will update accordingly....
ok well it ran the "downgrade" with no problems, i soft reset on the cingular apps, and when the system boots back up i get the following:
IPL = 1.08
SPL = 2.25
GSM = 1.09.11
OS = 1.8.11.1
so from what ive read on the forums i think it's a good thing i asked them to overnight me a new phone due to faulty reception (which is true it doesn't get the reception a buddies gets)..because i would assume with the SPL at > 2.25 i wouldnt be able to unlock the CID, correct?

2.xx rom downgrade issue summary

There seem to be a LOT of information about downgrades of the 2.xx based roms, and I wanted to see if I can summerise (based on my observations and understanding) and for people to correct me if I am wrong, so we get the information collated once and for all hopefully.
There seem to be a number of items of interest:
1. You need to be SuperCID unlocked to be able to upgrade and downgrade to any rom version (that includes bootloaders).
2. 1.xx rom version vs 2.xx (AKU) rom versions - You can SuperCID unlock 1.xx rom versions, but not 2.xx rom versions with the lokiwiz tool. Apparently imei-check can do 2.xx roms it for 20 UK pounds.
3. 2.xx roms prevent downgrading to a rom version below the current
4. There is a workaround method to downgrade a 2.xx rom if the rom version is below 2.17 by a custom 1.xx downgrade rom.
5. G3/G4 flash chips - bootloaders (IPL/SPL) with .0001 at the end of the version are G4 flash chips. There seems to be only 2.xx rom'ed devices with G4 flash chips floating around.
6. 2.xx official roms seem to include a G3 and a G4 version of the bootloader. 1.xx offical roms seem to only include a G3 version of the bootloader.
So, if you are trying to downgrade (including the bootloader):
1. You cannot do it (for free) if you have a rom above 2.17
2. You cannot do it (for free) if you have a G4 chip. You also cannot downgrade to a 1.xx rom if you have a G4 chip. Flashing a G3 bootloader onto a device with a G4 flash chip will "brick" the device if the device is turned off.
Question I have:
Does this mean you can downgrade a 1.xx rom, even though you have a G4 chip, if you are CID unlocked and do not downgrade the bootloaders? (If you are wondering why I might ask this, the blackberry connect client currently only works with a specific 1.xx rom version it seems, as RIM checks rom versions)
No, 2.x bootloaders don't work with 1.x Radio Roms.
My Wizard was not CID unlocked and with 2.17 ROM.
I downgraded to Button's ROM (flashed it 2 times) and got this:
IPL: 1.01
SPL: 2.17
Radio: 02.07.2
OS: 1.xx (don't remember now)
lokiwiz successfully CID-Unlocked my phone, and now I'm using 2.24..
You can't downgrade after 2.21, but with 2.17 (18?) ROM's you still can downgrade to 1.xx and unlock your phone.
If you were clever enough to search for all of machinagod's posts, the author and poster of the lokiwiz tool, you'd find this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50768
This is known to work for the HTC Wizard line, with exception of the prophet, which has a different post - and a different file working for that phone. This thread states that you can unlock (cid/sim) SPL 2.x roms, which may include the G4 chipsets as well. I have not tested this tool, nor validated its functionality with G4 chipsets. Luckily, I have a G3 chipset, and I do not want to give it up for the life of me.

I hope this solves some mystery around the G4/SPL2.x CID unlocking issues. Try this lokiwizMSL tool and see if it works for you, posting on either machinagod's thread or in one of the newer rom threads.

From machinegod's post in the thread about lokiwizMSL 0.3a:
Q - How about the CID unlock tool? (for using any type of roms)
A - Doesn't work yet... Stay tuned
ie - lokiwiz will only CID unlock 1.x roms at this point in time.

Machinegod has said in a number of posts that the solution (to the G4 chips) is to downgrade the rom without touching the IPL/SPL. I have not seen anyone produce custom ROMS that do not include the IPL/SPL for the purpose of downgrading a 2.xx rom as yet. There is a thread that talks about cooking your own rom, and its quite involved. You may or may not have noticed thats one of my questions in my post of whether this is doable with a 2.x bootloader (G4 chip) and a 1.x rom (as I haven't seen it yet).

No, but for the purposes of CID unlocking, do we care? Does the Radio ROM problem prevent the device from entering RAPI mode?

Machinegod is right (as always): the only way to change a G4 ROM (upgrade or dowgrade) is to cook a ROM without IPL/SPL. I wrote a tutorial on how to do it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088.

Incorrect.
I started off with 2.25 G3 Chipped cingular First thing i did was unlock the sim with 3.0a. Then i downgraded to 1.8 custom rom. From there i went with Loki's 2.0b CID unlock.
Just make sure you don't have 2.25.001 etc. You don't want trailing ".001" after the 2.25. if you have trailing numbers, it means that you have the G4 chips and you'll probably fry your system if you try reflashing it.

keyword - G3 chipset.
The above is refering to G4 chipsets and difficulties doing upgrades with that chipset. If you have a G4 chipset you'll have to cook your own rom without ipl/spl updates - which is what gets updated typically and requires a CID unlock.

Upgrading IPL/SPL help

well long story short I used to have a wizard g3 and in a drunken rage I (with the phone) ended up in a lake. I had that phone fully cid unlocked and my ipl/spl was in the 2.xx range and I had an updated rom and what not. anyways I got the wizard replaced with my insurance thank god and i just got the new one today. now I'm going through updating my rom and such. anyways, I ran the lokwiz tool and sim unlocked and superCID unlocked my phone and I was going to go try some new roms, btw this replacement phone is also a G3 version. and so I came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=61997 NEW Custom 2.26 ROM with CF2-SP1 Flash7 Java Rings Themes...
but I was reading on there and it said that my IPL/SPL have to be version 2.xx or higher, now on my old phone it was that way, but on this one its like 1.08 and I dunno how I upgraded them before cause I can't remember. anyways, I've been searching on the forums for a few hours... I'll keep looking, I hate posting for help with out doing some thorough research. thanks for your help in advance.
I did some more reading and I guess the ipl/spl are usually included in new roms and it's just not included on this rom. is there any way to just update your ipl/spl, that would be your bootloader version, right?
screw it I cant just find a bootloader upgrade, doing a full rom upgrade just to get the new bootloader... kinda sucks but ohh well.
thats what I had to do I used the official tmob 2.26 rom which did my ipl/spl - bootloader, then I flashed xelencins 2.26 rom which is like a "tmobile light" cooked rom which I'd reccomend for any tmob usa users.
then I did the radio only to get cingulars radio rom
it worked out fine, the less you flash your bootloader the better, if you f-up a bootloader flash your phone is a brick, your bootloader is the failsafe if a rom update goes bad...

OS Version??

I have applied the ROM's from Molski AKU 3.0.0 and have the newest radio 2.61 but when I boot it says that I have OS version 1.8.11.1 is that correct or is there a newer version. Also can someone outline the most stable of WM6 ROM's and maybe even links to there locations.

No, I don't believe that is the proper OS version contained in Molski's ROM.
Do you have a G3 or G4?
If you have a G3 did you follow EVERY step in the Definitive Guide to Unlocking and Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards sticky post?
If you have a G4 did you go to the IMEI website (not sure of exact address but it is all over the forum) and CID unlock your phone? (This is the only currently known way to CID unlock a G4 device, using the G3 method will brick your phone)
If you are NOT CID unlocked you cannot install a custom ROM, you will only be able to install Official Roms released by your carrier. The phone may go through the steps and look like it is working but nothing will be overwritten and you will reboot with your previous rom, possibly with settings and data loss.
As far as WM6 roms go, scan the headlines of the first couple pages and you can find that answer for yourself by reading the ROM specific threads. Every user has different wants and needs and as such everyone will have different opinions about which ROM is "the Best' or "Most Stable". Note that all AKU 3.3 and WM6 roms have issues in one form or another, they haven't been released by carriers yet because they aren't stable. Read the threads to see if the known issues affect whether or not upgrading to one of them would be a good move for you.
As always if you aren't prepared for your device to be ruined you shouldn't be flashing at all. Granted flashing is relatively safe if you follow the proper steps for your specific device, most people like to jump in with both feet and skip they highly important part about reading and educating yourself first. I am not accusing you of doing this, but since your question seems to directly relate to an unlocking issue...
OK I have CID Unlocked as I am using a cingular 8125 on T-mobile without issue and I beleive it did flash correctly as I get the molski splash screen and the IPL/SPL were upgraded just not the OS. I have been doing ROM upgrades on other platforms of devices like the razor and the IPAQ H6315 so I think this is working correctly. I also was able to upgrade the radio from 2.?? to 2.47.1 to 2.61.1 without issue.
Am I Missing something. I used the lokiwiz ver 3a to unlock it.

Yes you did something wrong....If the OS won't flash you're not CID-unlocked! Follow the sticky post by the letter (it mentions version 2b, not 3a). And make sure you have a G3 before downgrading. For G4 look at G4 section.

you only need to SIM unlock to use a cingular phone on TMobile.
SIM unlock DOES NOT EQUAL CID unlock.
CID unlock allows you to flash non carrier ROMS into your phone.
Also Lokiwiz 2b is the recommended version for unlocking. I have read where people using other versions said it was successful when it actually wasn't. They tried using 2b and had success.
you guys are great I did follow the insturctions with the correct version and it worked like a charm. Now on to flashing WM6.

read the Sticky for the definitive guide to CID unlocking and upgrading G3 wizards.
If you follow every step in that tutorial you will:
a. have a CID unlocked wizard capable of being flashed with any wizard rom, custom or otherwise
b. you will KNOW that you device is CID unlocked because you did it yourself
c. ROM's will actually flash because your CID is unlocked.
NOTE: you currently have a 1.08 bootloader. You cannot flash a 2.xx custom rom until you upgrade your bootloader to 2.xx. The easiest way of doing this is flashing the much promoted T-Mobile 2.26 rom. Of course if you follow all the steps in the unlocking tutorial you will end up with IPL/SPL 2.26 and be CID unlocked.
ok, thank you
it says that it voids the warrenty
But i thought it was a made-by-tmobile download?
And can't i just reboot it to the original version i have right now if there are any problems or anything? Will the notice? is it possible?

If you want WM6 you will be voiding your warranty as you won't be able to flash it unless you are CID unlocked.
There currently is not and most likely NEVER will be an official WM6 carrier rom for the Wizard.
If all you want is the latest carrier rom from your carrier then all you have to do is go to their website and download it and follow the instructions. You won't have to worry about CID or warranty voiding.
As for them noticing, maybe, maybe not. It really depends on who you talk to. If you stay with roms only made and released from your carrier you won't have anything to worry about as you can flash them without doing anything that will void your warranty.
