My phone is MDA Vario (T-Mobile NL)I upgraded it with RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe from the ftp.
After upgrade I did a soft reset then my phone just looks like no power at all. I tried to hard reset but nothing works. Just like what Claus72's mentioned in his post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56211
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
use it as a doorstop?
paper weight?
christmas present?
You accidentily flashed a G4 Vario with a G3 Rom I think.
So it's bricked for sure.
Sorry to say this....but you had to read better on this forum, then this would not happened.

Hi there, i'm a total newbie to the site.
I've got an MDA vario and i don't think its rom is up to date.
ipl 1.06
spl 1.06
gsm 01.12.10
os 1.6.2.4
I have no idea how to upgrade anything on this, i've flicked through and cant seem to understand any of the threads.
If someone could point me to a how to i'd really appreciate it.
Also, i find that i've got absolutely appauling signal strength compared to a samsung d500. I was wondering if this was a problem with the phone or if it could be fixed with a upgrade
If you can't understand any of the threads, I'd highly recommend that you either do NOT upgrade your phone, or that you find a more knowledgable friend to lend you a hand. The information presented here at about a four on a scale of 1 to 10 in complexity, and if you're not following, you could cause severe problems for your device, possibly even "bricking" the phone.
I too have an MDA Vario that had terrible signal strength at OS 1.6.x.x.
This was indeed fixed with an upgrade to 2.17.x.x.
However, there are some very easy to follow, comprehensive guides to upgrading on this site which, as SuperRob pointed out, if you can't understand, stay as you are!
Regards
Mark
I do understand the procedure, i just didnt know if i needed a specific rom dependant on what network i was on.
I'll search for any old new rom and whack that on there. If someone could point me in the direction of the newest radio rom i'd appreciate it but otherwise i'll search a bit more
I just wanted to point out that there are many many various roms out there and it's not clear in different threads which ones are the best 'stable' and latest releases.
My worry initially was that it would change the key's layout on the keypad as some reported since none clearly state what key layout it's for.

This is what my UK Vario is as well. I think we're still waiting for T Mobile to release a UK version.
I would also like to know which Roms out there have a UK keyboard layout.
Hi.. what o you think about.
I don t know for which i should decide me.
Are there differences 'bout buttons or something else?...
greets

Don't think there's a great deal of difference between them. I'm happy with my VarioIII
Aye and me, my Vario 3 has been sound since I got it.

Mine is even faster at "Active Sync" since I removed the A/V.
I found active sync wouldnt always sync. So I hard reset, reloaded apps and it still occured occasionally. After a 2nd hard reset, I could not activate the A/V (it kept activating then after each power on saying it wasnt activated, I'd re-activate it, and after power up it wasnt activated), so I removed it. Lo and behold, the active sync issues have disappeared.
I checked the F-Secure website (very little support there) and the only WM6 device they list is the HTC touch.
what's the software difference..
ist there a big branding (grey-pink and so on..) like on vario 2 on it?...
The only difference is the branding I believe, the Vario 3 has the T-Mobile stuff on it, such as Web n Walk instead of IE and T-Mobile branded on it... They are the same machine inside and you can always put whatever ROM you want on it to debrand the software!

Hi there,
Odd question I know, but i've got an XDAiis which has sat in a drawer for almost a year as I moved to Orange, and didn't know how to unlock the phone from O2.
Now I've unlocked it, thanks to a thread on this forum (thanks) and am back loving it again. However, I notice that things have moved on since last I used it, and was wondering if there's much point upgrading the software to WM5 or 6.
I don't expect anyone to tell me what the complete differences are, but is there anything interfacially that has been improved? Speed?
All I really use it for is checking emails/texting/phone calls/calendar (which I sync with Vista) and then most importantly, TomTom (V6).
I've got hold of 5 and 6, and after reading this thread, it looks like a pain to do the upgrade - but if it's worth it (and I'd say it's worth it if only to remove the O2 branding) i'd put in the time to do the upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
John
I have a BA XDAiis on WM6 and it runs faster than on 2003, well worth the update, it was really easy to do, and the O2 branding is gone forever!
the BackUp Battery/Persistent Memory issue is solved here (WM6)...
which means if you changed Battery and the Backup Battery fails in WM6...
it will not Automatically Hard Reset the BA like WM2003SE always does.
if you're upgrading
just be careful about settting unit password in WM6
when you remove the battery it will be wiped out.
My compact IV I got from T-mobile Netherlands have been been giving me some problems lately.Only the left portion of the screen responds to touch. It use to happen for some few minutes and then I would work well again. But now it its like that all time. I have tried lots of roms including the original from t-mobile netherlands website, .ie wm6.1 and wm6.5 and done hard reset but doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?
