!! WM5 = Suck !! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

go back to 2003 these roms are a disgrace to microsoft haha go billy gates!

Well if you can't use it - do not use it.
The main point (if you did not notice) is tath there is no official release of WM5 for BA. Thus, saying something about Microsoft's OS that was not designed/adjusted for a given hardware is the same as complaining about stupid Ferrari engine that cannot be installed into a regular Renault.

Ive only had my Blue Angel for a couple of weeks (converted from Symbian UIQ)
I decided to try the lastest Helmi 1.3 and so far it's been great
OK there are a couple of issues but so far i've been happy.
I now no longer backup the phone on a daily basis and have not needed to soft reset for ages , with 2003 it was getting to be a pain in the neck.
Also my bluetooth headset has much better quality on WM5 with no static
So i for one am happy

Explain what problems you're having!!
The AKU ROM's are the best of the lot I say - and I will go as far as saying Helmi's AKU3.2 is as fast as 2003SE (and prettier!). It's stable, most programs work and still being improved!

Knowing that running down the battery isn't going to zap your phone is great. Thanks again to all those who helped bring WM5 to the blue angel!!
Personally, I'm still on helmi 1.2 and I find it to be just as reliable or moreso than WM2003.

yeah, can anyone tell me what is the lifespan of the backup battery? 2 nights ago, before i slept i plugged my BA with only 3hrs remaining battery life... woke up 9 hrs after to see that i forgot to plug the charger to the wall outlet! immediately plugged it in and the BA soft resetted, but lo and behold, everything is still there!
and here's the twist, all my most often used apps are installed in the ramdisk!
can 2003se beat that?

I suggest you first research and review WM5 on BA before complaining, because if you complain without first knowing what you are talking about you, you'll easily turn to an IDIOT in the forums (pun not intended)

Um....why all the replies to a 12 year old proving he's cool?

Indeed. I wonder why he even has the brains to be able to know how to use a browser... or even plug in his computer

I have also converted to Helmi 1.3 and although WM5 was alittle slow, this is no fault of the Rom but the fact that the OS was desgined for faster CPU's. installed XCPUScalar and pumped up the cpu speed from 400 to 530, and yeah sure i do get less battery life, but for me that is not an issue, as I charge while at work.
I am alot happier and although the odd lock up happens, it a helava-lot better than 2003SE

Are you guys F..... crazy
Whay dont you use some programs like Destinator 6 or Tomtom Navigator 5, and check the performance while navigate on maps.
This versions of WM5 are too slow, compared with 2003SE.
I have tested all the versions with no lucky, all GPS programs on WM5 for BlueAngel has a lot of lag on maps.

I have no problems with TomTom... No lags (except long start-up), no hangs, etc...

I dont have a problem with TomTom5 as well. True slightly slow start but never any lags or problems. i think ur problem maybe that your cpu is still set to 400mhz and that where tomtom is suffering. pump up ur cpu and see if that helps.

The speed of the CPU isn't the problem, its the type of flash memory used on older pre-WM5 devices.. sure upping the clock helps as I run mine at 590 all the time, but fact of the matter is this is about the fastest we'll ever see WM5 on our BAs because of this hardware problem

Installing to the RAM disk reduces this problem, that's why it's there. The RAM storage is much faster than the ROM areas.

Is this 'RAM' the one which zeros itself after battery fully drains?

Yes, but I've had that happen once in 18 months of having the BA. If you only install accessory software to the ramdisk, a reset won't cause you much hastle other than having to reinstall a couple of applications.
I detest the PC installation of apps over activesync now as it unnessarilly clutters up your PC. I just keep all of the cab files a directory on the sdcard. I can hard reset and get everything installed really quickly this way.

So under normal conditions a softreset won't erase data on RAM disk?

That's correct. You'd need to either drain the backup battery completely or hard-reset to lose it. It could still happen, which is why I only install apps there. Don't keep any personal docs etc. just in case.

wm2005 lags *yes seriously)

hello ppl,
just installed wm2005 ,looks awesome, though I have just issue with it,it kinda lags, when I click start, takes time for the menu to pop ,when I change programs again takes time for it to happen ,even when I close a program it takes a 6-8 seconds for it to close while in wm2003 it was instanteneous (2-3 sec)
I have installed all the patches which are posted on wiki and the ftp with the new rom,are there any more registry patches with which I can make this baby go little faster and sort this issue ,it's kinda running xp on a old machine
or everyone is facing the same problem ?
WM5.0 is slower. However, you can improve its speed by:
- Removing un-needed Today items like MSN Mobile, Spb Pocket, Resco Today plugin (if installed).
- Disable as many sound options as you can.
- Overclock your processor to 530 MHz. (This might be unsafe, do it at your own responsibility. It works great for me though).
- Set the clock to always show on all programs (Go to the clock settings and the option is available on the 3rd tab).
You'll have a smoother performance, but still not as fast as WM2003SE.
pakiyabhai, my start menu pops in a fraction of a second. And do you call 2-3 seconds instantaneous? I have almost all my programs gone and the today screen back in around 1 second on WM5! I only show the message and calendar box on the today screen, though.
thanx for the tips,
mastif hehe ,ok thanx for the correction , i have no today plugin installed, all of em are disabled
I tried the clock options ,but no diffrence as of now
I am seriously considering the overclockin option ,but won't it drain my batttery faster ?
It will, probably... try it for a day and see if it drains or reaches a critical level. If it doesn't, then that's okay you can recharge your PDA during the night I guess... on vacations, don't overclock hehe
... and just as a tip: go back to WM2003SE right away! That's what I did. First, this is still very experimental; I need a working device. Second, there's no wireless modem, and Pocket Word lacks drawing, and Powerpoint is like read-only as I saw... lots of missing features and not working ones... Slow slow slow. I'm on 1.40 i-mate ROM now with overclocked bus speed. Now that's my lovely Blue Angel
For me, WM5's speed is about 85-90% of WM2003SE, which is acceptable.

Reasons NOT to upgrade to WM5?

I've beat the learning curve and i think i'm now ready to move up to wm5. But first i was wondering if, besides the bluetooth, there are any reasons, for me NOT to move up to wm5?
thanks.
it is a little slower than 2003 but it is more stable than 2003, if bluetooth is not an issue for you try wm5 you will like it, if you not like it you can always downgrade
Its slower than 2003SE, and sometimes you feel like throwing it against a wall....more so than 2003se.
I used my friends HP ipaq, boy that thing flew (2003se) it was responsive with hardware and software buttons..must be using a faster cpu.
so a reason not to is the speed.
do you guys have yours overclocked?
Overclocking?
I do, well, techincally it's vary-clocked. I use Power Hacker which automaticly adjusts the CPU speed as needs be. In idle the CPU sits at 100Mhz and on load it jumps up to 554Mhz with various overclocking on the RAM and such like.
The fact it idles at such a low CPU seems to give me a bit more battery power to make up for the higher drain when in use.
There is a topic about overclocking on the main "Blue Angle" Forum.
As for reasons to upgrade to WM5, to be honest I've forgotten! I think it was just because of a few annoying bugs, like the BT and Wi-Fi connection issues (having to soft-reset the stupid thing everytime I want to reconnect to my home wireless.) and also just because it has a nicer layout.
You know, before my next WM5 flash I might just go back to WM2003SE for a couple of days just to remind myself what's so great about WM5....
the only problem i have w/ WM5 is the keyboard problem. lags sometimes and keys lock

Sorry !!! My mistake.
But is very goood !!!
A speed question.
So i've been playing around with emulators. Mainly morphgear, pocket snes, and pocket nester. To get the best performance out of the blue angel while playing very resource intensive games like legend of zelda link to the past or super mario world, (both with sound), i'm having to overclock.
So i started using pocket hack master, ( phm for the searchers).
The highest i can put my settings without it crashing and to make these games run decent looks like this.
SDRAM clock: 147.50 mhz
pxbus (internal bus) clock: 148.00 mhz
run to turbo multiplier: 2.00
Mem to run multiplier: 2.00
Turbo is 592.00 Mhz
Run is 296.00 Mhz
Now. After looking at all this information my question is how much more resource intensive is wm5 going to be? Will these roms not be able to run reliably? I'm assuming i'm just about topped out, and i'm also assuming that wm5 is going to take more juice. But i'm wondering how significant of a difference i'm facing?
Does wm5 run slower because it's more resource intensive or just slower by defualt? as in the way it's coded?

Are the AKU2.3/3.0 ROMS faster on BA?

Hi,
It's been quite a while since I tested ROMS. Last one was Logout's 5.03. Have used Ivan's V3 also.
Out of curiousity before I flash my ROM to 2.3/3.0, are any of the beta versions currently available faster than the older non AKU ROMS?
If so, which one is the most stable to install? AKU2.3 or 3.0?
They are miles faster. I'd recommend AKU3.0 or the upcoming AKU3.2 from Helmi_C. AKU3 is preffered over AKU2.3 because it's slightly faster so more work is being done for that.
Thanks Biohead for answering. I'll flash Helmi's AKU3.0 beta soon and see how it goes.
Yes, faster than most...I wouldnt go as far as saying they are miles faster...and the battery life on AKU3.0 is horrible imo. That being said. I am still using it for the moment because it has the best combination of features and stability that I have found so far. this battery thing is killing me though. if battery life does not improve I will become too frustrated and have to go back to a different rom that has better performance in this regard. just my 2 cents.
-wurd
I'd reccommend one of those extended bateries regardless of which ROM you use, they are not that expensive and give you much more juice.
Wurdipus,
Why is the battery draining out fast? Is it due to some kind of self-power-on problem?
Btw, many here recommend to overclock to 520Mhz for BA to run WM5.0. Any recommendations on which software to use to do that?

I am not sure why battery is draining so fast. I did not have this problem with TuMa 1.4 or Ivan's latest rom. they may not have as many features/functions enabled in those other roms. I am just not sure. i dont use wifi, but i do leave GPRS connection open a lot of the time to sync email in near realtime. I did that with the other roms too though and didnt see this dramatic battery drain.
as far as overclocking goes...i use this overclock tweak that i believe mamaich wrote. if it was someone else who wrote it, forgive me for not remembering =)
edit: just as a note. this overclocking hack runs at 530Mhz when backlight is on. when backlight is off it drops back to whatever the native speed of the CPU is.

once it is installed it just resides in the background. I am not sure exactly how it works, but i do know it has no GUI for control. Mamaich wrote it to simply install and run behind the scenes. If you want something you can control and adjust then xpuscalar is probably the way to go.

there is a know bug in all wm5 rom's on this forum and that is the BlueTooth issue. BT randomly looses itself, soft-reset needed. To work-around this someone made a patch that will wake-up your PDA every so much minutes to keep BT alive.
so turn off BT if not used. i've no battery problem.
And for overclocking i use pocket hack master. Made my tomtom to startup in 13 secs. in stead of 35 sec. on wm5. Maybe it makes battery life longer since it underclocks as well when idle.

seems to be a lot of disconnect between threads and rom makers here. when i was using TuMa1.4 and the BT patch .dll from big mike, I didnt have this battery issue and TuMa had many many features like AKU roms have. I only wish Tuatara had gotten the time to finish 1.5 and work out the few remaining bugs. TuMa rom was best one ever imo even with all the little problems in 1.4 i still used it longer than any other....hoping they would get fixed one day. Now AKU rom is out and re introduced a lot of the old issues I had before TuMa 1.4. oh well.
its all from people volunteering time and effort to make these roms so I am not complaining! just thinking somewhere along the lines it would have been great for more interaction between rom makers to know what worked in one or the other. awesome work on all the roms and I will keep trying to help as much as I can with reports about what works and what doesnt.
on that note....one problem I have again now with the latest AKU is the phone rings for the person calling me 3 or more times before I hear a ring on my phone. by the time I can answer it has gone to voice mail. this problem was gone for awhile but now its back.
I can't agree more. IMHO this devices are sold with a tiny battery just for the sake that you'll must buy an extended one. Before I got mine, I had just a day of runup. Now I have 3, even 4 days. So, I clearly recommend buying the extended battery as a must for this devices..

Why is my TyTN II slow?

Hi all,
First post here for me Got my TyTN II a few days ago and I'm loving it. It's such a nice phone and has a great build quality.
The only big thing that I find disappointing is the speed of the device. My previous phone was an HTC Wizard and my TyTN II is supposed to be literally double the speed of it, but there's no way it feels like that. In fact the Wizard, when overclocked with BatteryStatus to about 260Mhz) seems faster than this new beast (at times).
The things I particularly notice the slow speed with are...
- opening the keyboard (switching from portrait to landscape mode seems to take 2-3 times as long as with the Wizard)
- navigating (scrolling) through the list of Programs just seems sluggish compared to my [overclocked] Wizard
Another peculiar thing I've noticed is the speed of the "view finder" in the camera. It seems sluggish to the EXTREME, almost like a "night mode" is permanently on! I've noticed that sometimes putting the device in to standby and waking it back up gets the view finder running at "full speed" (what I would say looks like 25-30 fps).
Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about?
Dave
Did you add any applications (which may not be 100% compatible) after getting the machine? I had a Wizard too and am waiting for the TyTN II to come, but with the Wizard certain applications slowed the phone down much!
Regards,
Nika.
Well yeah, I've loaded it with a ton of rubbish now but in all honesty I noticed the slow down when I first took the machine out of the box.
The camera preview/view finder is particularly puzzling!
I've just put BatteryStatus on (a) to see if the CPU is constantly working and (b) with the hope to overclock it a little. I've just noticed that it doesn't support the TyTYN II processor tho so that's out of the window!
Once a new cooked and "polished" ROM comes out for your Kaiser, it will work faster. Almost every first official ROM is buggy and sluggish. it's not the hardware, it's the software.
One reason why I don't buy a device on it's first release.
About the camera preview/view finder slowness, it is due to not enough light in the room.
I was puzzled also. I tought I got faulty device.
Try to use it outdoor, it is very good when it has enough light.
Here is the discussion:

Well, this surprises me. Mine is very fast and in particular for those things you mention!! Screen orientation for example is virtually instantaneous (maybe 1 to 2 seconds compared with TyTn that could take 5 to 20 seconds) and scrolling (with the exception of PIE) is smooth and fast. From standby by to on is less than a second. Compared with the TyTn the camera on 2mg is much faster as well.
Not sure where that leaves us then, if you say it was like that out of the box. That does not sound like it's something you have loaded, but might be worth re-checking that with a hard reset.
I notice a suggestion above that a new ROM might be faster. I really question that because as I say my ROM (presumably the same as yours) is very fast and the single most impressive thing about the device!
In your situation - I would seriously consider a hard reset to be sure it was a good installation. If problems persist, I would be tempted to look at a replacement as that slowness is not normal.

That was certainly true with the TyTn, but my Kaiser (unbranded) is superbly fast. Virtually instant switch on screen rotation scrolling (except PIE), so I'm not at all convinced this is the problem in this case.

Hi
Main reason for making a device slow is running apps from the memory card. Especially if they are there in the background. Make sure that everything on your today screen and everything that runs more often is on the main memory. Storage card is good for instlations of everything you use and then close (e.g. SatNav, Camera apps etc.)
Kaiser is running extremly faster than anything else.

Hi - I too am having the same problems described above regarding the slowness. I'm using the default HTC installed rom (1.56.405.5).
Were you able to solve the slowness issue? If so, how?
Thanks.
I'm having an odd slowdown issue. Everything runs incredibly fast pretty much 90% of the time except when I'm syncing. Everything on the device slows to a crawl and it takes forever for activesync to finish its business. This occurs both when I'm syncing via the USB cable and when I'm doing it via bluetooth. Any ideas?
Bellfazar, the exact same thing happens to me too... I'm using Vista btw.
Plus i have a serious slowdown after softreset (so maybe it's software related, don't have time for hardreset), but after a minute or so, its fast again

After a soft reset, the phone has to load everything in memory for the first time.. So accessing the Programs window or the start menu the first time takes a while. Accessing it for the second time, everthing is already loaded into memory and fast again...
Is there not a powertool for WM6 which can help us disabling stuff?
You can use Startup Manager by Baniaczek to disable items that start at warm reboot. Or remove them manually from the WINDOWS\Startup folder
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=262476
And use HTC Task Manager to kill running applications and/or close them when closing an app instead of minimising it...

sometimes since the new kaiser tweak version i can see (batterystatus) that my processor keeps running at 100%. everything slows down. even a soft reset does not help. when i soft reset without my storage card everything is fine but as soon as i insert the card 100%. man this sucks.

Yeah, I can imagine! Especially when it seems you're the only one (or at least the first that complains). I don't mind trying to help you, but you'll have to answer some questions first:
1. What KaiserTweak.exe (time/date of file) and KaiserTweak.xml (time/date of file, or name of zip-file you downloaded) versions did you load?
2. What tweaks did you use after implementing the new version?

i never said it was the kaiser tweak nor do i think thats the problem. i restored to a backup from a week before and this still (sometimes happens). so you got me. When i figure this out i will let you know.

I've noticed that sometimes putting the device in to standby and waking it back up gets the view finder running at "full speed" (what I would say looks like 25-30 fps).
Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about?
Dave

Try Q-Mobile 1.11 it is the fastest ROM I have ever used.

Battery Killer: Filesys.exe 100% Load

It seems that my phone will sometimes randomly start running out of battery really fast and memmaid shows that the process filesys.exe is taking up the processor at a 100% load. I know that this is part of how windows mobile accesses its storage systems, but I doubt that it's normal. Anyone else having the same problem?
All red items have been uninstalled to see if they were the cause.
I'm running:
Touch-IT full ROM
Battery Status beta 1.04
Default Company Picture Viewer
S2U2 0.5
PocketCM Contacts 0.15
ClearTemp
OP3 ShortCode
FlashVideoBundle
Picsel Browser (Which BTW since installing has made my free space significantly shrink...)
vTap
TRE (reg editor)
memmaid demo
PocketTweak
Pocket Notepad
tGetFile.dll
PocketWeather
HTC Home
Total Commander
psShutXP
Mobile Office
hmm... That list suddently feels a lot longer than it did before. lol
But nothing is running in the background with the exception of ActiveSync.
Thanks guys
Update: Here's a list of what modules filesys.exe has loaded according to Memmaid:
Threads: 24
encfilt.dll
coredll.dll.0409.MUI
ole32.dll
sqlcese30.sys.dll
MSASN1.dll
crypt32.dll
rsaenh.dll
discache.dll
LSFILTER.dll
fsreplxfilt.dll
cachefilt.dll
fatsd.dll
cecompr.dll
HtcFsdspy.dll
imgfs.dll
mspart.dll
trueFFS.dll
Fsdmgr.dll
certmod.dll
coredll.dll
Update: It seems that the two coredll's are taking the most resources, but I can't test this out as I don't have any software that can break it down for me, except for abctaskman or whatever it's called and that's only a demo so it won't show me which module is using what other than the other of their CPU usage.
UPDATE: I thought that maybe it was a similar issue to this, but that it was running the compaction on my memory card since I had set the volatile temp to run from that... but that hit a wall as well when I made it run on the main memory again.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I also have the Extended ROM enabled as well.
MODS, can we please move this to one of the general forums? I'm not sure which one would be best, though....
OK, so far I've found out that it's a problem not only with this ROM but with WM5 on other devices.
Here is a patch for another device and OS. What I'm trying to figure out is what exactly he patched so we can do the same to our file for our phones.
HI !
I run the German Touch-IT Rom with S2U2 and have the same Problems. Here is what i found out:
- Battery drains in 3-4 Hours IF mortplayer has been started. I usually use Mortplayer to wake me up in the morning. My Music is stored on the SD Card, but this has always been this way.
- I have problems with the batteriy since S2U2 was installed.
-> Maybe Su2u does not suspend our Herald, so that the SD-Card is not suspended, too. Maybe filesys.exe (and with this mortplayer and also HTC Home) randomly ask if the card is still available - Which consumes a lot of power.
...
What do you think ?
I will delete S2U2 when i don´t need the wakeup function this weekend
Hmm... It started around the same time that I added S2U2... I'll try to remove it and see what happens.
I temporarily disabled S2U2 but no change.
Updated with more info.
I hate to bump my own thread, but it seems that updating the thread doesn't bring it up any higher. I wonder if anyone else was having the same exact issue?
I'm determined to solve this problem, as it brings my battery life to a sad 6 hours if the EDGE is on, about 9 hours when it's not. And that's with me underclocking it half the time... and the screen brightness down... and with the phone in "hybernate" or whatever you call the screen being off most of the day...
S2U2 actually did dramatically decrease my battery life... Uninstalling fixed it. Just thought I'd say that; I don't know anything about your other issues, sorry.
I have the same problem too on a mda vario (wizard) with wm6 rom(Dutch version) more info about the rom: http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/350255/
I have been searching around for a solution. But I could not find one.
Here is my list of the modules filesys.exe has loaded according to Memmaid:
Threads: 17
encfilt.dll
coredll.dll.0409.MUI
ole32.dll
sqlcese30.sys.dll

fatsd.dll
cecompr.dll
HtcFsdspy.dll
imgfs.dll
mspart.dll
trueFFS.dll
Fsdmgr.dll
certmod.dll
coredll.dll
Does anyone have found a solution for this problem?
whixh general??
there is "development and hacking" or "modifying and upgrading" i´m also NOT sure
S2U2 has also caused a battery drain on my wing as well. As i am sure it is the #1 reason my wing will crash (lock up) then when i reboot the wing it freezez permently on the password screen. i have tried numberious soft resets. with and without the microsd in... eventually i have to hard reset!
all applications that is running on your homescreen is consuming battery, because its constantly loaded in memory.
If you want a battery that last long, you need to remove sd-card, htc home, cube, touchflo, point-ui or w/e you use to make your device look cool.
you can put it this way, the more stuff you have, the more cool stuf you have, the faster is your battery draining. Ofcourse you can run BS and set up your device with tweaks and w/e, but in the end it all comes to what you want, lasting battery or a "cool" looking device.
In my personal rom, I use htc home, I like it. I use actionscreen and random acces. I have BS to configure battery usage, I deleted EVERYTHING that I dont use in the rom, and yes, it last way longer then fully or moderate loaded roms, but im sure if I kept only basic os, i could prolong battery with a day or two, but I dont need that. I have a device that is compatible to run so many cool things, and I have it because of the many features.
If you can figure out what you want to use in a daily basis, and you can manage to stay away from the heavy eyecandy-stuff (wich you keep to impress your friends) then you can have a longer batterylife
hi guys,
i had the same problem with S2U2, but since i use the cpu-scaler in battery status it's ok.
My battery lifes 3-4 days.
My settings from cpu-scaler: 130 - 201 - 234 without boost.

3-4 days!? is that with no data usage, no talking, pretty much letting ur phone just sit on the table? because the ABSOLUTE most i can get is 1 1/2 days. That sounds a lil too extreme...
did someones try filesys patcher from aximsite?
i'm using gprs over bt always on, a2dp (3-4hours daily), ~50 sms, opera mini and mobilegadu (im) and after 20hours i still got ~40% on this battery and this unit. i had another herald earlier and it was not possible to have 12hours without charging...
and btw - ive got s2u2 running all time and after it is cooked into rom its not using so much energy..
but a2dp draining more battery than on other devices (wizard, universal...)

no, i uses my phone every day for 20min calling, 30sms and 1 hour gprs internet.
I used to have O2 Neo as my device, and when I tried to install "some apps from HTC rom", I notice a warning about battery drain bug of HTC Camera from some mods and admins in another forum.
Now I owned a HTC P4350 and have HTC Camera as defaul camera app on ROM. My battery always drains above 100mA or even 300mA . Do you think that it's caused by the HTC Camera appplication ? any idea how to remove it from ROM ????

Hello
Here the same. After I uninstalled S2U2 the battery was longer full.
Regards, Tommy
I seem to also have a problem with S2U2 on the LGKS20. Its a pity because its not just eye candy - its the only app I ever found that prevents accidental answer etc.. I also had massive battery drain with SPB mobile shell. bummer
