Newbee on Wizard upgrade.. scared.. pls help - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I have a newly bought Cingular 8125 in India. I would love to Upgrade that.
Though the box says it is for UK, I can use with the service providers in India.
I assume it is unlocked already.(is it really?)
This is my device information at boot:-
IPL: 2.25
SPL: 2.25
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.25.11.1
I am planning to use Molsky.Biz ROM available here:-
RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_WWE (G3 Device. IPL/SPL like: 2.xx)
I hope my device is G3.
Do I need to CIDUnlock my device? What is the FullUnlock?
Molsky.Biz says:-
" Also DO NOT FORGET to CID UNLOCK your Wizard. This is only possible with LokiWiz 0.2b and
IPL/SPL 1.xx, if you have a CID LOCKED Wizard with IPL/SPL 2.xx.0001 flash a G4 Rom !! "
But My IPL/SPL is not 1.xx as you can see above in my details.
What should I do to unlock? Do I need to do that at all?
and what is meant by AKU? Do I need that?
I sold my nokia and communicator to buy this phone. So dont want to brick it because of my ignorance!
Please guide me.
Many Thanks.

Your phone is a G3. If the IPL and SPL has more than 2 digits after the first decimal (ie: 2.xx.xx) then it's a G4.
As for unlocking, that confuses the bejesus out of me.
I would say download the G3 ROM, figure out how to unlock your phone (if possible) and then you should be good to go.

You SHOULD be scared given all the threads around here from people who trashed their phones. And I'd bet few of them could give a straight answer as to why they wanted to do so in the first place. So before you do anything, define why you want to update the rom. Does it do something specific that you absolutely can't live without and makes it worth the risk of ruining the phone? Maybe a custom rom is a tiny bit faster but in a day's time, will it make any difference? Probably not, and an operator rom that's a tiny bit slower is still a LOT faster than a dead phone. Don't forget that the moment you start flashing with anything but an operator approved rom, you're out of warrantee. if you absolutely MUST update the rom, then start reading the link above. Every question you asked has already been answered here many, many times. Is your phone a G3 or a G4? Better know BEFORE you start. Oops...you're at 55% and your PC crashes...what do you do? Better know BEFORE you start. The phone reboots and won't go past the splash screen, what do you do now? Better know BEFORE you start.

Thank you all for the replies.
The main reason for flashing it to the new rom was speed and space considerations.
I was owning an XDA Mini earlier and successfully did the BigStorage and Rom updates.
But seeing many users bricking their wizard here and being not sure about the 'unlocking thing' i've decided to atleast not to venture into the bleeding edge atleast during my warranty period.
I know many questions might have been answered many a times, but the answers too are very contextual, they are different for different versions / models etc.
Hopefully I will do it sometime next year!

i would vote the warranty period is the best time to do it.. then you can tell your provider you tried to update their rom and now your phone dont work and let them send you a replacement...
Flashing isnt all that scary, the first time its a little nerve racking, but then again i like living on the edge...
So if your gonna do it, here is a quick simple explanation...
Downgrade to a 1.xx rom from the FTP site, after the your IPL/SPL should show 1.xx during boot up (mine actually differed, had IPL 1.xx SPL 2.xx and still unlocked just fine, some people claim to have issues though)
after successfully booting run lokwiz 2b (its the one i used) do the sim and supercid unlock.
Then reflash a stock 2.xx rom so that you are sure to get the updated bootloaders, after that has completed successfully then flash any rom you want..
its that simple, just a little time consuming

How to copy the cab file(enable rapi) to your device and run it before running lokiwi
Please disreegard below. Just found it.
Thanks..
I am kind of new in this.
I want to unlock the device but do not know how to
copy the cab file(enable rapi) to your device and run it before running lokiwiz.
I will appreciate your help on this so I can continue with the upgrades.
Thanks in Advance.
1 - Unzip lokiwiz02b.zip to somewhere (extract to c:\lokiwiz) in your computer
2. Connect your phone via ActiveSync to your PC . Browse your phone with File Explorer from your PC.
3 - Copy EnableRapi.cab to your Wizard (My Document)
4 - Execute the EnableRapi.cab in your phone. Wait for it to finish
5 - Guarantee that your phone is connected via activesync with the computer
6 - Execute lokiwiz.bat (from your computer run c:\lokiwiz\lokiwiz.bat, double click on that file) and follow the instructions on your screen...
7 - Select Option U to unlock your Wiz.

Newbie needs help and advice on SIM and CID Unlocking 8125

Hello everyone. My first post here. I just got my Cingular 8125 and wanted to unlock the device so that I can use it with T-Mobile (U.S.A). I've been searching through the posts on this site, and I must say that you guys do a wonderful job making this forum all that it is.
I'm still browsing through the many posts regarding unlocking the 8125, and I gather that I am going to need to unlock the SIM and the CID (so that I could upgrade the ROM). I'm still searching and reading through posts, but hope that someone could help make my life easier by suggesting what I should do.
It seems like the Lokiwiz Version 0.2b is the most updated version that can do both SIM and CID unlocking. What I wanted to know is if this version would be able to do the CID unlocking on my device, as I am unsure whether I have the G3 or G4 chip. Below is the info I have regarding the Current ROM and info thats on my device:
Rom version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
Rom date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtRom version: 2.25.11.102
Thanks in advance!
G3. Anf=d yes the lokiwiz 2b is the way to go.
Follow faria's footsteps precisely and it'll work!
Disregard the "Won't work with 2.21 and above" disclaimer. I've personally flashed over a dozen Cingular 2.25's with this technique.
If you follow every step it will work!
Thank you Dr. I'll definitely give that a shot.
Nothing to backup then.
Good luck!
Ok, I followed all the steps. I have posted below screenshots of the messages for SIM Unlocking and CID Unlocking. However, I'm not sure if it sucessfully CID Unlocked my phone as I never got the "Your phone is now CID unlocked...." message, nor did I ever recieve an error message. The command prompt screen went away after the "CopyFileToTFFS(cidunlocked.bin:0, 0, 00010000)" message and the phone rebooted. It did however create a CidUnlocked.bin file in the folder. After the phone booted up, it still read:
IPL 1.01
SPL 2.25
GSM 01.12.10
OS 1.5.4.2
Shouldnt the SPL be changed if it was successfully CID Unlocked? Or does that only happen after I install a new ROM? I think I'll refrain from updating the ROM, until I get confirmation from one of you guys, that the CID has been sucessfully unlocked. By the way, was I supposed to reinstall enablerapi.cab again, after I finished doing the SIM Unlock? I did the SIM Unlock first, and then the CID unlock. Below are the screenshots:
You appear to be unlocked. I'm going a assume that you downloaded and installed the 1.05 ROM. Then you copied enablerapi.cab to your device. You navigated on your device to where you copied that file and executed first before runing lokiwiz? All indications are that you did everything correctly.
Yes I believe that "you done good"
Congrats!
Thank you very much for your help! After the reboot, it showed IPL 1.01 and SPL 2.25. Shouldnt the SPL be changed and match the IPL if it was successfully CID Unlocked? Or does that only happen after I install a new ROM? By the way, can I upgrade to the latest official Cingular ROM, and then in the future, still be able to switch to another cooked ROM like Mr. Clean or Summiter or perhaps even the one you made?
Install the 1.05 a second time. Seems that I have to do it twice every other device or so. Don't run lokiwiz as your unlocked. And now you can install most any ROM.
Congrats again!
So I can just reinstall the 1.05 over the same 1.05 thats is currently on? Will the SPL and IPL both match and show 1.05 then?
yes!
Woooo Hooooo! Worked like a charm per your advice Dr.
After the Rom update, the boot screen showed:
IPL 1.01
Spl 1.01
GSM 1.12.10.0
OS 1.5.4.2
So I guess I am good to go, thanks to you! After I installed the ROM, and did my first Sync with the "Files" folder, I got a message on my PC asking if I wanted to 1) Combine the files on my PC with the ones on the device 2) Overwrite the PC files with the files on the Device 3) Overwrite the Device files with the existing files on the PC. I chose the first option and combined the files. Below is a screenshot of my WM_User My Documents. It seems that the "My Music" and "My Sounds" folders are identical. They both have the files: "Alouette.mid" and "ding.amr". Should I delete one of these folders? Also, for future reference, when I update the ROM again, and do my first Sync, shoud I always chose to "Combine the files on my PC with the ones on the device", or chose one of the other ones?
Hey Doc (or any1 else), a couple Noob questions if I may...
After thorough readings and praise about the new beta rom, I am sure I'm about to try this out, and though I've been helped a whole bunch by shogun, I still have some questions if you guys don't mind...
0. Before anything, where can I find [wizBackup.exe] to back up my device? Is there any prep involved like: removing battery, holding certain buttons like camera button to get that screen with the 3 colors thing and then running everything?
1. I downgrade my rom (current rom):
ipl: 2.25
spl: 2.25
gsm: 02.25.11
os: 2.25.11.1
this is a G3 chip correct?
2. I downgrade my rom with this: ftp://xda:[email protected]__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe
3. I download this lokiwiz here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
4. I open/unzip lokiwiz02b and place it in my c: drive on my pc correct?
5. I then will find this cab file "cab file(enable rapi)" in my c: drive in my pc?
6. Do I run the cab file from the pc? or do I place the cab file on my 8125?
7. After the cab file has installed, I then run lokiwiz02b? This will unlock my device. Does lokiwiz CID unlock or SIM unlock? Both?
8. The unlocking process will make a [lock_backup.bin]? Where will this be found?
9. I can now dl and run shogun's rom beta version correct? with the same process, just execute and wait for the install.
10.... Thank you for your time and patience, I'm trying my hardest and I like to be thorough before I try this, scared about bricking my phone, especially since I love it so much... Once again, thanks for all your help and expertise....
I'll try to help answer as many of your questions that I can.
0) I never used wizbackup as I had nothing to backup. All the official ROM's are readily available if I ever want to go back to them. But here is the link to the wizbackup.exe download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12373
1) Yes you have a G3 Chipset
2) Yup
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) It will be in the LokiWiz folder, which you just extracted on your Crive
6) You place the cab file to your Device, when you have ActiveSync connected to your device. Just go to the "Files" folder on your Sync screen, and select add, and add it. Once you added it, ON YOUR DEVICE, go to Start --> Programs ---> File Explorer --> And double click on the enablerapi.cab file. If you get a prompt that asks you where to install it to, make sure you chose "Device" and not Ext ROM or Memory Card.
7) Make sure you have an ActiveSync connection still. Just follow the prompts on the command prompt screen after you run lokiwiz.bat. If you want to familiarize yourself with it, run the lokiwiz.bat just by itself when there is nothing connected, just to take a look at what the screen looks like. Now, don't run lokiwiz by clicking on the lokiwiz.bat icon in windows. Instead, open a shell on your computer (Start->Run->cmd.exe) and run the program by going into its folder; this way the shell window won't close automatically after the process and you'll be able to read any messages or error messages Lokiwiz is giving you. Here are the steps:
Open a shell (on your computer): Start -> Run -> cmd.exe
- Write: 'cd c:\lokiwiz02b' (without quotes), then press enter. Now you're in c:\Lokiwiz02b
- Make sure you have an activesync connection
- In the shell, write: 'lokiwiz.bat' (without quotes), press enter.
JUst follow the prompts then. "U" is to unlock the SIM. Which is what I did first. After it finished running, it automatically rebooted my device. I then followed Step 7 again, to get back to the lokiwiz screen, and entered "C", to CID unlock the device. It once again rebooted. Anytime it reboots, it will take some time. I looked at the IPL and SPL to make sure that it matched. If it doesnt match, then reinstall the ROM like in Step 2. That should make the numbers match.
8 It should be found in the same Lokiwiz folder on your Crive. After you SIM unlock, just make sure to look into that folder to see that you have a "lock_backup.bin" and a "unlocked.bin" file. I created a new folder named "sim unlock backup" and placed them in that. Same process after unlocking the CID. " I created and placed them in a "cid unlock backup" folder.
9) Cant help you there, as I am still looking for a good, fast, clean rom to update to.
10) No problem. I just did this a couple of days ago with the help of Dr. Puttingham and Faria's guide. It's just like he said, "If you follow every step it will work!"
If you come across any error messages, make sure to take a screenshot and post em. On WindowsXP, if you go to the "PrintScrn" button on your keyboard, and then open up MSPaint and click "edit" and "paste", you will have a screenshot which you can save and post. Good luck! You'll be fine!
worked for me!!
Yes it finally worked for me. I messed up on my G4 phone, but fortunately Cingular replaced it with a G3 phone...and it works!!!
Im glad to hear that... Which ROM do you now plan on flashing to?
@PapaPrem - good posting here... (except it's U and not L to unlock, small mistake!)
I am hereby officially passing the baton to you regarding this as probably 1/2 of my 332 posts here have been repeating and repeating faria's steps.
Thanks!

Thanks! I made sure to correct that. Hopefully, next time anyone needs any help with this, we can just link them to this post.
After installing 3 ROM's today (Xelencin's 2.26 ROM, Cingular 2.25 Official ROM, and Molski's 2.26 ROM) I would highly reccommend Molski's ROM. Compared to the Cingular 2.25 stock ROM and Xelencin's 2.26 ROM, this one boots up much quicker. Took abou 37 seconds compared to the 44 second boot up time, the other two took. Its also very clean and installs just the bare bones and neccessary tweaks, and doesn't install all the programs that not everyone needs.
hello all can anyone help me unlock a cingular htc 8125 2.25 via messanger heres my e-mail [email protected] please?

[READ FIRST] The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards

OK, a word from the DOC.... to the wise ...
If one has successfully unlocked their G3 device they won't be complaining that their device doesn't have the themes, ringers, little tweaks and proggies installed by the extended ROM as these things will be installed...
Vippie has prepared a nice tutorial named Howto flash a Wizard... a little tutorial! that is a "must read" IMO, please take the time!
jpmche has published an unlocking guide for our Spanish only amigos here at [Favor de Leer antes de Preguntar] La guia en Español para Des-bloquear el Wizard
mestrini recommends saving your CID block that is backed up when running the Lokiwiz tool. Lokiwiz will save it as a bin file and it is useful if you encounter a "Data Crashes. Please contact your service center" error. Please take a look at his thread.
btw, a G4 PDA will report an IPL and SPL similar to 2.21.0001 and a G3 PDA will report something similar to 2.21 (notice the G3 doesn't have the trailing .0001!)
Read between the lines here... almost ALL the postings of problems posted in the ROM threads are directly due to people not truly unlocking their device.
In the real world there is a phrase ... RTFM, loosely translated to "Read The Freak'n Manual"... Faria in particular took pains to create a manual for unlocking G3 devices. I've personally unlocked probably close to 50 Cingular 8125's and a few T-Mobiles. I've seen PROBABLY every situation with a G3 device here.
A couple of things...
1st - Most of the custom ROM's here require that your device be CID unlocked.
2nd - CID unlocking, as well as flashing a custom ROM, will void your warranty.
3rd - There is always the chance, even after all precautions are taken, that you might brick your device. This, however, is extremely unlikely unless you have a G4 PDA and attempt this.
4th - Please don't cross post. This particular thread was "stickied" to keep it at the top where noobies can see it and veterans can attempt to help. My attempt with this thread is to alleviate the posting of obvious CID unlocking problems in the chef's threads so that they can concentrate on perfecting their ROM and not answering questions that have been already been answered countless times before and really have nothing to do with their ROM.
5th - Faria and I reference the Button 1.05 ROM. You DO NOT have to use the 1.05 to unlock your device but you may instead use an official 1.x ROM (Lokiwiz .2b only works with 1.x ROM's) if it will allow you to downgrade to it. Often, however, the only way to downgrade to an official 1.x ROM is to downgrade to the 1.05 first... catch-22.
6th - This technique is the best way to downgrade a device to a previous version, for instance when you need to return to an official "shipped" ROM for warranty reasons.
PLEASE take the time to read all the way through this before making the decision to unlock your phone. We are not responsible for you bricking your device.
If you have a G3 device and follow Faria's instructions, which I only repeat time after time, you WILL have a working device..... no ****!
If you have a G4 device DO NOT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!
Also, if you DO have a G4 Wizard, please do NOT post anything here regarding how to unlock your device. This is for G3's only, please start your own thread...
So... being that my friend Faria's primary language isn't English (though he has a better mastery of it than many of my fellow Americans...) I'll expound on it ONE LAST TIME ...
Please do not use the PC for anything, including browsing the internet, checking email, playing freecell, or anything while this is happening! Have nothing going on in the background.
mestrini advises (and I agree!)
I've come to realize that many "NO COMMUNICATION" errors are due to low voltage battery so i think it would be good to include in your guide to have a full (or almost) battery before using any RUU.

1. Glance through Faria's original thread on this (he wrote the book!!)
2. Download Button's 1.05 ROM at RapidShare or Badongo
3.. Downgrade your ROM to the Button 1.05. Let it go through the whole setup please...
Note: If your device fails at 98% with a 302 error follow Vippie's advice and try the Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102 instead.
4. Download lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b
5. Extract the afore mentioned file to the root of your C drive. Do NOT extract to a folder with spaces...
6. Open Activesync WITH YOUR DEVICE NOT CONNECTED! and delete your partnership.
7. Connect your device and cancel the partnership. (You're a guest )
8. Open ActiveSync, Explore and copy enablerapi.cab from your PC's C:\ (remember that's where you extracted lokiwiz to...) to you device, I don't care where.
9. Pick up your PDA, File Explorer, find the enablerapi.cab and click it.
10. (Back to your PC) ... <Start> <Run> <cmd> <Enter> to give you a most wonderful MS Dos prompt (be afraid, VERY afraid!)
11. In the MS Dos box (mouses not allowed!!!) type "CD\" <enter> (no quotes)
12. Type "lokiwiz.bat" <enter> (Actually, if you have XP, type lok then <tab> it SHOULD complete the filename, YMMV.
13. You will see a screen that has ...
U. Unlock
L. Lock
C. CID Unlock (SuperCID)
Q. Quit
14. Hit the U key on your PC and press <Enter> ... your PDA WILL REBOOT upon completion !!!!!!!
15. Wait for your PDA to reboot, rerun the lokiwiz batch file (if you hit the up arrow key twice on your keyboard it will retype "lokiwiz", then hit <Enter>) then hit the C key on your PC and press <Enter> ... YOUR PDA WILL REBOOT UPON COMPLETION !!!
(if your Pocket PC Phone does NOT reboot each time, you didn't do it right! Stop and make that work, trust me!, then go on)
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
Now you SHOULD have a IPL and SPL of 2.26 to work with. If not, you screwed up! Don't attempt to install someone's hard work and ***** before you do these steps!
EDIT for Step 17 - Download and install the 3.08 IPL/SPL rather than the 2.26, your choice! (I suggest doing the T-Mobile 2.26 first but that's me
IF, by chance your device hangs and never completes the flash (always give it a LOT of time, with no programs running, hopefully after a fresh reboot of your computer) you'll be stuck in (hopefully) the bootloader screen. It's very scary (at least to me the 4 or 5 times my own custom ROM's have been bad) all is not lost. Each time (after trial and error) I was able to restore. If this happens reboot your PC and then rerun the Button 1.05. It will act like it doesn't see it at first but have faith! I've tried this by using various provider's shipped ROMs and it always tell me it can't communicate. But, if I reboot, the 1.05 has always worked.
If you still have issues, uninstall ActiveSync. REBOOT! Download and install ActiveSync 4.5 Don't create a partnership. Try to run the 1.05 again.
Also a good idea is to delete your Windows temp folder. With XP this is typically
"C:\Documents and Settings\PC User's Logon Name, whatever that is\Local Settings\Temp" (Show hidden files need to be checked)
Most of you can paste this into your "RUN" box and click OK
cmd /k del "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp" /s/q/f
(type exit and hit enter when it completes)
Also, a good idea is to close all apps, shell to a command prompt by clicking <RUN>, typing cmd and clicking OK. A nice black MS Dos box awaits. Type CHKDSK/F and enter. Then type Y and hit enter. Type exit and hit enter. Reboot your PC and let it go through the data integrity test. Try again.
A last note. If you DO ever go back to the 1.05 ROM for any reason you need to repeat the lokiwiz steps as you won't be able to install a 2.x IPL/SPL bootloader.
A last disclaimer
Faria originally posted this unlocking technique using Button's 1.05 and machinagod's lokiwiz 0.2b. I have merely attempted to simplify the steps.
Final note
Microsoft has asked that all ROM's be removed from the FTP and we have complied. I have searched the internet and found the Button 1.05 and T-Mobile ROM's and updated the links here. Thanks to whoever posted the Button 1.05!
Enjoy!

Having read varios forums I don't think that would cure the problem. The best solution I think would be as Molski suggested in having moderators with the ability to delete repeating questions. My own suggestion would also be to give people of a certian level (ie: senior member) the ability to start and moderate thier own threads, therefore giving you the ability to keep a thread on topic.

First...great job Dr. P Although you have typed the same thing many times before. I know I read them all.
Now... I agree with what Jose has said here. I for one spent a long time reading and learning before I felt comfortable messing with my phone and I work with software and hardware for a living. Many of the new owners of these phones come on here and jump in with both feet and then the trouble starts. Perhaps Molski should be a mod on this forum, it might help (Molski i will tell you now it is a thankless job.) at least then things would be cleaner around here. I know that everyone has other jobs but couldn't troublemakers be banned sooner than they are and is it really that hard to block an IP? I'm done rambling besides i have to get back to work.
Kirby
Wooh everyone's back at least to offer their 2 cents and Dr. Puttingham, we Americans do speak good ole English maybe colo(u)red sometimes . Faria thanks for commenting. Molski keep up the good work and Summiter, please reach out. This place is not going to be the same without you folks.
Any idea, on how to downgrade a rom back to the original one? My phone needs to be shipped back to TMobile, and i can't get it back to the original T-Mobile NL rom?

To my knowledge Button's 1.05 is lower than any provider's shipping ROM so you shouldn't have any problem "upgrading" to your official shipped ROM. I've personally taken 3 Cingular 8125's back to the shipped 1.08 this way to return to Cingular.
Good luck!
My apologies to Dr. P and all the senior members. I was one of those guys that were constantly asking the repeated question. I got it straightened out now. Both of my MDA's are unlocked and working perfect. Thank you all so much for all your help.

Just an idea - do we all have to have open PM and email. If we could have PM or email only on invite or something, the good people here could get some peace, and everyone had to ask on the forum, where everyone else (at least some of you) can give an answer. We still have to have some moderators i think, but you didnt have to answer hundreds of PMs and emails.

Which is precisely what has the folks angry, the threads going in different directions than what was intended.

Im sorry. I guess that applies to faria, andy_morgan, rkwhyte2, and brando457 too, who was off topic before me. I am new here, and saw the discussion went off topic, but when they did it, I thought it was ok. Sorry again. Im learning, and it will not happen again.

You really need to post more information. Phone 'G' version, what ROM you were on before, service provider, whether or not you are certain your phone was unlocked (CID, etc). Otherwise, it is like asking 'why does it rain mainly on the plain in Spain?'

How did you know it was a G4? Did you follow the instructions to the letter?

I was pretty sure that i had seen this username before. If you look for the thread labeled "Please fix the link. Rom is needed." you will find this user asking for the link to be fixed and in the next post you see somebody (brooks.nl) providing him/her with a link to a G4 ROM. I'd say that the OP didn't know that there were G3 and G4 phones out there and now we see the results. Just another case of RTFM. Sad really

if you are in rainbow (color mode) = bootloader, then it shows to you IPL and SPL
If you have in the ednd of it .0001, then your device is still alive.. Just download any official ROM for your Device and connect it via cabel with PC and the go just like it is connected via Active Sync.
Active Sync is not running, but the flash would be OK and your device alive again
And what if the IPL and SPL are 1.03...... I've tried to downgrade to unlock the sim, but it failed. Since than I have got the rainbow screen.
Can anyone please advice me what to do.....
I know.........RTFM.......
If it was a G4...
If the IPL/SPL before you started had .0001 on them then you have flashed an incompatible bootloader into your G4 device and have bricked it.
If your device was 1.03 to start with then it is a G3 and you flashed a 2.xx rom into a 1.xx bootloader which again doesn't work (G4 safe roms do not include the bootloaders.) In this situation you can recover your device by installing an official 2.xx carrier rom into your phone. And never mix bootloaders again Once this is done if you are CID unlocked then you will be able to install a custom 2.xx rom of your choice.
G3 and G4 bootloaders are not interchangeable. More G4 phones have been bricked on this forum than really should have been for this very reason, read, read, read and when you think you have read enough, read some more. If you have a G4 device the only way that I have read on these forums to CID unlock was to pay a fee to a website to do it for you - Which many people have done and report that it works well.
If your device was a G3 to start with then you might be able to re-flash an official carrier rom (from your carrier) into the phone to revive it. Check their customer service/support website for that information on where to download a release. If you are a Cingular customer you can download this rom from the HTC website (don't know about other carriers)
Things you really should know before you flash:
1. Is my device a G3 or G4?
2. Is my device a G3 or G4?
3. Is my device a G3 or G4?
4. Is my device a G3 or G4?
5. Am I willing to have a failure that will leave me with a worthless piece of electronics?
6. Do I have a real NEED to upgrade or change roms?
7. Have I read and understand how to unlock my phone (if not going with a carrier rom from the carrier to which your phone is locked.)
8. Do I know how to boot into bootloader mode?
9. Do I have a backup plan for re-charging the battery if it becomes discharged completely -- Shouldn't be necessary but lots of people including me have made a mistake and gotten their phones in a state where it will not charge.
10. Do I understand how the flash process works, where will it pause, how long will it pause, can I go without my phone for this period of time?
11. Have I spent a good deal of time reading as many threads on upgrading/flashing/unlocking/identifying as I can in a 2 week period. If you just got your phone.
12. Have I backed up all the information on my phone that I may or will need once the flash is successful?
13. Have I read the entire thread on the rom that I wish to install to see what issues others have encountered while downloading, installing, running/using and how they fixed or worked around them?
14. Is my device a G3 or G4 and do I have the appropriate rom?
Really, the people here aren't trying to be rude or jerks, the problem is that most newcomers to the boards jump in with both feet without reading all of the very well written tutorials and fully heeding the warnings included with them, and invariably they all ask THE SAME questions, because they either A. don't know how to search (yes, we all know the built in search function leaves alot to be desired. -- Use Google) B. are too lazy to search/read and want to be spoon fed. C. really believe that they are the first person to have said issue.
The sad fact is that most people that brick their phones have no good reason to have upgraded in the first place.
I hope your phone was indeed a G3 to start with and you can revive it with a carrier rom. If not then this is a very expensive lesson, and I am sorry that you had to learn it like so many others this way.

WOW guys.. i didnt brick anything. It IS a g4, but i wasnt aware of the CID stuff. I guess it just did the bootloader thing bc those roms needed the device to be CID unlocked. i installed wizard love's rom onit and it seems to be working perfectly. I would just like to know if there is any other roms with a different radio version.. bc sometimes if i randomly look at my device it will have 0 bars. would a diff radio version fix this?

Glad you got it working.
There are radio only roms that you can download and install but, I am not sure if you need to be CID unlocked to install them.
The latest Official Cingular radio and the one I am currently using (see my sig) are the ones I recommend.
These roms do not contain bootloaders, OS or extended rom so your settings are preserved when installing them and should be safe to install on a G4. But as always I would talk to someone/search through here for someone that knows more about flashing a G4 to see if you need to pay to get your CID unlocked.
you can flash the radio rom i flashed 2.47 radio rom and use the wizard love flash
okay so where exactly can i get the 2.47 radio rom?. also cant i use the risidoro ROM with my CID locked g4? or is that impossible?. where exactly would i find the 2.46 radio rom?

How to flash a new ROM to your Wizard... a little tutorial!

This guide was written a long time ago. I recommend people to use this more up to date guide:
Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies
I've got a lot of post behind my name, but most of my posts are answers to the same questions over and over again. It seems very hard for "noobs" to find the answer to their question quickly on the forum. I quickly wrote a little step by step tutorial for them. Hope it helps!
Suggestions or corrections are always welcome.
You want to flash your wizard, but don't know where to start. Try this:
0. First determine if you got a G3 or a G4 device. When you turn on your device from can can see you're IPL and SPL version on the screen. If you got IPL/SPL 1.xx or 2.xx you've got a G3 device. If the IPL/SPL shows 2.xx.xxx1 you've got a G4. Go to step G3.1 if you got a G3 and G4.1 if G4.
G3.1 Does you're device start normally (yes) or is it stuck on the three-colored bootloader screen (no)? YES... go to step G3.5, NO go to step G3.2
G3.2 Turn off you're device totaly. Remove the SD card and disconnect the USB cable from you're device. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen). Connect the USB cable to the computer and you will see USB at the bottom of your screen above the left softkey (Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!). If you got IPL/SPL 1.xx go to G3.3. If you got 2.xx go to G3.4
G3.3 Download button rom and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G3.5.
G3.4 Download wizard_love rom and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G3.5.
G3.5 Is your device CID-unlocked (note: it's not the same as SIM-unlocked!)? YES... go to step G3.7, NO OR DON'T KNOW go to step G3.6.
G3.6 Follow this great thread by Dr Puttingham: The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards. Don't skip step 17! Flash the T-Mobile 2.26 Rom! Go to step G3.8 if you got the T-Mobile rom with IPL/SPL 2.26 on your device after doing this.
NOTE: Some people seem to have problem with flashing the button rom in this step (stops at 98% with error 302). Replace button_rom with Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102 and follow the rest of the steps normally when this happens!
G3.7 Download T-Mobile 2.26 rom and flash it to your device! Done? Go to step G3.8.
G3.8 You're reade to flash the AKU2, AKU3, WM6 rom of you're choise! It wasn't that hard, was it? If you still got an older OS version after flashing then you're not CID-unlocked! Go back to start!
------------------------------------
G4.1 Does you're device start normally (yes) or is it stuck on the three-colored bootloader screen (no)? YES... go to step G4.4, NO go to step G4.2
G4.2 Turn off you're device totaly. Remove the SD card and disconnect the USB cable from you're device. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen). Connect the USB cable to the computer and you will see USB at the bottom of your screen above the left softkey (Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!). go to G4.3
G4.3 Download wizard_love rom and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G4.4.
G4.4 Is your device CID-unlocked (note: it's not the same as SIM-unlocked!)? YES... go to step G4.7, NO OR DON'T KNOW go to step G4.5. (note: CID-unlocking a G4 is only possible by paying for it at imei-check!)
G4.5 Download enable-rapi.zip. Transfer Cert_SPCS.cab and EnableRapi.cab to your phone. Run Cert_SPCS.cab FIRST and EnableRapi.cab SECOND. Turn your device off and on or wait 5 minutes before soft resetting. Done? Go to G4.6.
G4.6 Follow this great thread by the-equinoxe: [solution] G4 SoftSPL Flash any ROM to CID locked G4 [UPDATED] and load the softSPL on your device using his method. Make sure you take a G4 safe rom (see the thread for details). After the steps you'll have the rom of your choise on your device!
G4.7 You're reade to flash the AKU2, AKU3, WM6 rom of you're choise IF the rom DOESN'T contain IPL/SPL. AKU3 and WM6 roms normally don't contain IPL/SPL. If you want to flash an AKU2 rom, make sure you take the G4 version. If you get an error 300 (invalid update tool) while trying to flash your device look at this thread!
NOTE: If you tried to flash a G3 rom with IPL/SPL in the rom on a G4 you probably will have a bricked device! DON'T flash the new 3.08 and 3.09 IPL/SPL to your G4!
NOTE2: If you got problems flashing with softSPL: Follow this great thread by mun_rus: Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE. If your device won't start after flashing you can use step G4.2 and G4.3 and try again. Also look at this thread by eddieitman: Faria G4 Step by step installer with instructions to make sure you did all the necessary steps!
Nice one.
One thing I've found is since the Mods split the WM6 stuff to a seperate forum a lot of noobs are in that forum and they don't see the stickies over here now (I've had a couple PM me directly asking where this Wizard Upgrading forum is at that I refer to in my posts ). So I think we need some stickies like this or something in the WM6 forum (or a sticky at the top of that forum with a pointer to this forum and maybe certain posts over here).
Nice. Maybe we should add a link in the Wiki to this...
--M
Corrected the links to wizard_love.... they didn't work.
I found this solution much better than shelltool for flashing my G4 CID-locked Wizard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043
Shelltool can only flash the OS while using this modified RUU you can task the OS, splash screen, and the radio. Plus this modified RUU will also flash Wizards that do not bootup normally.
You can't flash a touched OS that way in a CID-locked G4.... only some 2.26 roms will work. Trying this with WM6 will go to 100%, but you're "old" OS will startup again.
Say i downgrade my phone to the T-mobile ROM but have a cingular phone...do i need to have my phone SIM unlocked to use it or since i changed ROMS it doesn't matter...

SIM Unlocking only allows you to use SIMs from a different carrier on your phone.
CID Unlocking allows you to flash different Carrier / Country roms on your phone.
If you are only CID Unlocked, you can flash Tmobile, Cingular, Qtek, etc on your phone, but your device will still connect to the same carrier that your SIM is setup for. So for me, I'm on Cingular. I flashed the TMobile 2.26 ROM and I have the complete TMobile look and feel, but my carrier and phone connection was still Cingular since thats what the SIM is for.
I always flash the TMobile 2.26 rom on my phone now before upgrading to a new custom ROM. Its more stable (IMO) than the CIngular 2.25 (at least numerous issues I used to have went away by doing this, but then the custom ROM may be really fixing that, but I like having the latest IPL/SPL for my base).
As always... YMMV

Good question.... have you flashed T-Mobile rom before? If you haven't you will get the strong 2.26 IPL/SPL. It prevents many problems! This step is to prevent people to upgrade to WM6 with other IPL/SPL!

You want to downgrade so that it cleans up things that are possibly left from a previous install. The Official ROMs have everything (IPL / SPL / OS / Radio / Extended ROM / etc). If you go straight from a custom rom to another custom rom you may find you have stuff left over because the new custom rom doesn't clean up everything. I've seen where things are left in the message queue, so you start getting pop errors about not finding something when that was on the previous ROM.
While it takes extra time, flashing back to an official rom gives you a clean base for the custom rom to work off of. Well worth it for me so I always do this. Takes an extra 15 mins or so, which is better than wasting a day chasing some issue that wouldn't have been there.
BTW: Congrats on getting your post promoted to a Sticky!

Good question. I don't have a G4, but I'd think the same would hold true to get a stable / clean base for the new custom rom.

NO! that rom has IPL/SPL in it. Don't try flashing this rom onto a G4! It could brick your device!
thanx a lot !
Great job vippie!
I've updated my thread to reference this.
Please update the first post
Hi Vippie,
Can you please update the first post so that when you tell people to get to the bootloader screen that Activesync will NOT connect, but if it says USB above the left softkey that it is connected? This is something I've had to tell people over and over. People see that activesync doesn't connect so they stop and don't go any further.
Thanks! And again, excellent work on this guide. I'm pointing people to this now as I like how its laid out and gives G3 and G4 info in one place (since so many newbies don't think its important to tell us what they have or anything)
BTW: Has this been put into the Wiki?

Good one.... updated the starting post! Thnx!

IPL/SPL=1.01/3.08 .. even though i use a 1.05/1.05 ROM!

Hello All Developers,
It's my 1st time yo post a new thread, well thats because i always found the answer in either the subject or the answers. Yet, for problem in hand, I cant find any thread with it included.
I bought a G3 Wizard, and I fell in love with it, this is not new, i fall in love with all my mobiles and PDAs.
I have a Himalaya too which is much more simple than Wizard regarding upgrading. and here we go
I followed the instructions in the sticky thread titled:
[READ FIRST] The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards
I found it very helpful. I followed mainly the FARIA version too, i was reading the 2 threads in parallel to double check my understanding.
it all went great .. till the IPL/SPL upgrade step, i followed my guess that i dont need to go though the 2.26 ROM to update afterwards to 3.08. so i upgraded to 3.08 and all went well.
the next was to upgrade to any WM6.1 versions. and for my sorrow, all of them failed to update.
the failure it self was a piece of art. after the completion of the update taking its 10 mins, it just hard reset my device. no new rom is installed.
my guess was, go back to 1.05 and go to 2.26 instead of 3.08
i did that and found my IPL/SPL changed from 3.08/3.08 to 1.01/3.08 even though the rom is supposed to have both of them equaling 1.05
ignoring this fact "an error i'll regret soon" i tried to upgrade to any WM6.1 ROM and voalla
I BRICKED MY BELOVED WIZARD.
yes thats right, it stuck at 98% and sowed a failure message. allowing me only to follow the recovery steps. and i got this 4 strips screen (i'm counting the white strip too)
any way, after trying with different roms, different uti upgrading file, all reached the point of failure.
so, i kinda lost hope, and removed the batt, the SIM and left the device like this for 4 hours or even more.
i returned from work, and prayed to god to help me. i cant live without my beloved Wizard.
and the only thing i could do was to try to install the button 1.05 rom again. i tried b4 the 4 hours break, and it failed just like the others.
i dont know how but while praying , the mobile continued to flash the rom and booted completely!!!
now, after this story, here is my current status,
IPL/SPL = 1.01/3.08
ROM : button 1.05
additional info: i'm afraid of trying to upgrade to WM6 or WM6.1,may be i get it bricked for life this time!!!!
should i use WST to restore my old IPL/SPL?
what can i do to use WM6 or 6.1?
thanks for taking time to read this thread, i appreciate it
Try to install an official rom from cingular or t-mobile and then try to upgrade to wm6.1

Perhaps! your phone is still CID locked and you upgraded to 3.08,sometimes,while downgrading from 3.08 to 1.xx,spl freezes at 3.08,now try to upgrade back to 3.08 and downgrade first to 2.xx by flashing the official rom and then downgrade to 1.xx.
or,download the latest version of WST 4.2.2 and check the CID lock/unlock status,if its still locked, you can try to CID unlock with WST 4.2.2,its seen,it sometimes performs the CID unlock with different SPL other then 1.xx,atleast one user did report this successful.
