Speed problem - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hello all,
Having recently changed from XDA II to XDA IIi, I noticed a decrease in processing speed. It seems that the XDA IIi is much slower than the XDAII.
I have uninstalled every O2 software, except the operating system.
As example, the difference in speed is noticable when I write a text message. when it auto-completes the name I can see that it's writing the characters slowly.
Does anyone have a similar problem? Should I install another ROM perhaps or is it really slower than the older XDA II?
Thank you.
P.S. There is even a Turbo processor mode, but in vain.

FYI. I have reinstalled software and it's much faster. But if you have comments about the speed, please feel free to post.
Thanks.

I would highly recommend using PUGS rom with the O2 stuff stripped, I have found it vastly superior to all other roms I have tried and makes the device (for me) much faster and more stable.

SPB Benchmark

I have two xda, one blue angel (vodapone VPx)and one alpine (O2 XDA IIi). I only want to keep one with the higher performance and sell the other.
I used SPB Benchmark to test both of them and to my absolute surprise, despite having a faster CPU and more memory, the xda IIi underperformed on almost all tests!! It is significantly slower than blue angle...
Anyone know wheher SPB is telling me the truth, so I really should sell XDA IIi and not the theoritically slower VPx (same as xda IIs)?
Any idea why XDA IIi is so slow? Which test tells me about performance may affect sat nav?
Thanks!

Diamond not as quick as the Touch Pro

Just saw this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pENEldRxuwQ
and I am amazed at how quick the menus are on the Touch Pro. Why is the Diamond not as quick as this? Does the latest firmware for Diamond make it as quick?
TIA
touch pro has more memory.
Why do you think it is faster than the Diamond ?, I have ROM 193 and it doesn't seem faster at all (and btw, I only have like 20mb of free RAM, kind of shows you how meaningless this whole RAM issue is).
Mine is as fast - no that roms are being fine tuned - using a beta from a cook here i have to say that vid is nothing exciting and my dimaond is wizzing away - i cant make touch flo lag however erratic i use it...
Im sorry to spoil the party but my Diamond is as quick as the one in the Video or maybe even quicker. (all tweaks applied and Cooked ROM)
Im sure the PRO can be even faster after it takes a stroll down to the kitchen!
luck fellassss
so can a similar speed be seen on a diamond with an official firmware or can it only be achieved with a coked firmware? any videos showing the speed of the Diamond UI which is supposedly just as fast? TIA

Maybe, but I doubt it will ever be faster than the Diamond.
Unlike Desktop PCs (and correct me if I'm wrong), WM doesn't use RAM to cache hard drive information, rather all software 100% works from RAM (after it loads there, that is). So, you could definitely load more software to the Pro's RAM, but each individual software won't run any quicker than on the Diamond.
The Touch Pro's name should really be changed to "Fat Diamond".
I have stock ROM .. and my Diamond is as fast as the one in the video ..

I agree.
Im not familiar with the Processor the PRO has but im assuming the Processor is the same on both.
I believe the speed is judged by the MGz in the Processor. So if both carry the same processor they should have same speeds.
IMO I might be mistaken.
With the new ROM and tweaking programs my Diamond is very very fast... I'm very pleased now... and I don't like the HTC Touch PRO because is not that slim like the Diamond wich is on of the ``features`` I like about it.
With Bepe 0.98 ROM, Mine is running a little faster than that
Mine is that fast or faster too, thanks Dutty, and that's with a big pile of crap loaded on by me too.

Actually, there is a setting that can make the diamond cache file system....
when cooked touch pro ROMs manifest themselves, we might see a difference though I'm just looking forward to how much the diamond is going to earn on raphaels drivers and software

Besides if you look at PROS desktop pictures you can see a diference in its Manila, its got a diferent Homepage!
Diamond is gonna inherit much of that wealth.

my diamond is on DUtty v1.6 and it's fast! slightly faster than on the video if i have to say?
I get the same performance as in the video with a 1.37 Swedish stock rom.
The only (tempoarary) performance issues I have with TF3D is after I for instance close down Opera or do some other CPU intensive task. It then usually takes a few seconds before the menus are back to being as responsive as usual. But that's it.
I have however applied the standard registry tweaks, but as far as I can remember I did not observe any significant change in performance.

Low Quadrand Benchmark results

Hello all,
I just installed the new JPM firmware, and run Quadrand benchamrk on it.
I get less than 1000 points, wich puts this below N1 and DroidX.
I dont really tested this with the original firmware.
Is there a problem with my phone's hardware?
Or is it the firmware?
Our phone should be similar to N1, right?
How much points do you get with this firmware?
Thanks!
EDIT:
- I format and wipe all data before flashing.
- Its rooted.
This is usually how the SGS scores without lagfix on eclair... But quadrant doesn't exactly give you accurate real-life usage performance statistics...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 using Tapatalk Pro
hm... Maybe it s good idea to apply the lag fix?
I think you should just wait for the official froyo release for SGS from Samsung.... It's literally just around the corner now! Otherwise, you can try (and I personally recommend) RyanZA's awesome, OCLF 2.0 since it's the simplest to use...

Using the lag fix will get you 2000points. Helps the file system speed
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Greate. i apply the lag fix and get 1800 points now.
The quadrand bench probably dont messure real world usage, but it was breaking my psych..
It could be subjetive, but i think appbrain listing of installed application runs a little faster.
Thanks!

A shiny toy from LG just landed

Hi guys .. just got the Optimus 2x review unit.
I have it for about 2 weeks to try.
You guys got any questions about the device ? anything you want to know ? Will try to answer
Status LED
Oh Great!
yeah, here's the first one:
I saw on different pictures just left to the upper speaker several... let's say "spots".. in the display. I suppose one is for the brightness regulation and the others? For what they are? Would be amazing if one of these spots is a Status LED! Could you come up with this info?
thanks!
PS: h t t p://presse.lge.de/riot-utils/download/media/3/87566576697678/lg_optimus_speed_2.jpg Here you'll see what I mean.
probably proximity senzor, I dont think it has led indicator.
test battery life with sync and all apps and backround services, debugging etc off.
tet standby over a night with 3g and 2g.
then test heavy sufing with opera mini and standard browser on lowest and hight brightness
Yeah battery is important.
real life performance
Hi
I would be interested to know how smooth the optimus 2x would be after one day of usage and without using an application killer.
from my experience with the Galaxy S, the phone is quite smooth at boot time, but after sometime of usage where you would open and exit apps, the phone would get really laggy and even unusable to the extent that you have to reboot. People resort to using task killers to improve the phone performance which negates the purpose behind the android OS as it is designed to run at the same speed irrespective of whether you have 200 mb of free ram or 40 mb of free ram
So is this same with the optimus 2X or is the smooth experience persistent
Thanks
sadly .. its only the proximity sensor and nothing else .. digged into the menus and could not find anything about notification led

It's fault of Froyo not the Phone i think. There is multi task but no chance to close apps. With gingerbread update it will be better i think.
BATTERY ?
Does it play divx/xvid/mkv out of the box? and in 1080p?
If not, does any market app like vplayer or rockplayer solve it?
could you tell me if the LG flavour of Android includes the original News and weather widget?

Lag is a software problem not a hardware problem. The question is whether its a problem pertinent to the Android system itself or the vendor specific add-ons (bloatware) that each vendor adds (Touchwiz, htc sense, etc)

I picked the phone up about a week ago.. Here's what I can tell you about the performance over time.
Immediately after a reboot it runs like a dreams.. even after a couple days its fine. I ended up having to reboot today because it was starting to get pretty laggy. But like rouvax said, i believe thats an OS problem, not a phone problem.

The phone comes with an app called CarHome (one of google's apps i believe), which after looking at the battery usage is an energy hog. After killing that, and some of the other bloatware that comes on it, the phone will last me a day or so of light usage with wifi constantly on. Playing a lot of games will obviously drain the battery, down to about 8-10 hrs from what i've noticed, I haven't tested it extensively for exact numbers

Hi!
One thing that would be nice to is if there is a widget to enable/disable mobile data connection.
What I mean is the widget "mobile" that (mostly?) HTC devices have.
Maybe the 2X/Speed has one under "LG Widgets".
Here are some screenshots of what I mean:

Hi,
Does the 2x support USB OTG or USB host, i.e. is it possible to access an external USB storage? Would be great to stream media from an external hard drive via DLNA or HDMI. A micro-SD card is too small for a feature-length 1080p movie.
Thanks
- Does it have a good and loud speaker function so it can be used in a car (as navigation)?
- Can de LG launcher be disabled in favor of the stock android launcher?

Slow and laggy phone

Hi guys.
My new LG Optimus 2x (preinstalled android 2.2.2) is very slow and "unsmooth" on the main LG Interface.
I still rooted the device and uninstall f-secure and car-app, cause I read, this apps can make problems, but the problem is still there.
Applications are running well, but the main system always laggs. If I download a few apps from marketplace, the phone totaly freezes for seconds :-(
And I´m wondering about shown RAM, when I take a look at Android Optimizer App. My total RAM showa 372MB, but I thought, this phone has 512MB RAM? Maybe my Device is not working correctly?
Can someone help me?
THX!

I experienced the same. Can be solved to a large extent with paul's custom rom. Nevertheless I hope that coming updates improve the phone. Its by no means using its full potential.
What I can only barely accept is the low reception. I was in several rural areas where i had no reception. My gf had each time 3 of 4 bars on her htc legend and on the same service provider as I. Thats really not too well. I couldnt even make a call.

yes with pauls rom it becomes better but still laggy when installing progs, ...
hope to get update soon because it is a very good phone (and good price).

Yeah, that´s right. I have a second phone, HTC 7 Trophy with wp7, and so I was dissapointed about performance and phone/wlan power (even have network, gsm or wlan, with trophy, but not with lg).
Can someone say something about missing RAM? Datasheet: 512MB RAM, shown in Android Optimzer: 372MB....thx

512mb of ram is the TOTAL ram the phone has, the 372mb of ram is USER AVAILABLE RAM. the other part is used by system and its apps.

512MB - ram used for GPU = ram available
damn, that´s heavy, I looked at a Desire, they have up to 100MB more free RAM...
The ram should not be a big issue. With proper programming and good ram management by the os a todays phone should never use more than 512 mb. Kinda silly with 1 gb, only encourages sluggish coding.

Whenever I have had ram shown on the phone I've never had over 200 and I find that it decreases through the day whether things are open or not very frustrating! I'm disappointed with the phone so far I was expecting alot better and the software isn't suitable for the phone at all. Hopefully updates will arrive soon.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
get autokiller off market, activate the extreme preset if you want some extra free ram. Removing some useless stock apps also helps.
The original LG home launcher does seem to be laggy, try something like launcherPro, it seems to be much smoother.
Android is not like Windows, the RAM management is completely different. The performance issues your having is unrelated to the amount of free RAM you have. When a Windows pc runs out of RAM, it will start writing data to the hard drive. Of course accessing this data is much slower than reading from RAM. That's why increasing RAM can have a major effect in Windows. Android don't do this, instead it closes background programs(and saves it's state?), to free RAM as needed.
This is from the top of my memory, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You guys who complain about bad network reception, have you all noticed that there is a small piece of foil on the lower end of the phone under the battery lid that should be removed? It's a blueish strip of plastic foil and harder to peel of than the other protective foils on the phone. Removing it has increased my cell reception from about 25% to 55-65% indoors at my place (measured with Phono).
Ermm no didnt know. Thanks for the hint. Just removed it and hoping for improvement.

About installing apps: I remembered that when CM switched to ext4 as base file system the phone stopped being inresponsive while installing apps. my phone is with ext3 now (total stock, to check if it still auto reboots) and yes it lags like hell while installing! I managed to keep the phone responsive after unlocking by removing juice defender (otherwise the phone was lagging like hell untill the wifi kicked in).

AFAIK LG phones = bad reception, I had one before this and it was shockingly bad - going downstairs = no reception. I've moved since then so can't really compare
thats not the case with my O2x
It has far better reception than my Iphone 4 or my HTC Desire or any other phone I have owned. Inside my house reception has allways been very poor and its almost impossible for any phone to get reception, I normally have to move around in the house and find a spot just to get connected. But with my O2x I now have excellent reception everywhere in the house which was a hughe surprise to me when I got it.
PS: I also get the very annoying lag when installing apps on my O2x - while my single core Desire and my single core tablet Archos 70it doesnt.
I really hope LG can make us a better rom when rolling out Gingerbread.
complaining about free ram is ... and using of any task killer apps is useless.
if the phone is getting out of memory it will close unneeded processes automatically.
And it doesn‘t make a difference wether if ram is full or totally empty, it‘s the same power consumption.
Ram is there to be used!!!
