I'm sorry if this has already been posted somewhere but I couldn't find anything on it. I finally got around to installing this on my MDA using it with the SonyEricsson's SBH-662 (or something like that). The original Voice Commander responds rather quickly but with the VC 1.6, I have to press that button on my BT headset 6 times just to get the voice prompt. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
nxZEN 5500 and MS Voice 1.6
My MS V works near flawless. I hold the button for about a second and I hear the beep in my earpiece. Recognition and response greatly improved.
You DID install to the device and not you storage card, right?

I have to agree VC works very well even better than version 1.5. From what i have heard you can now install to the storage card but perhaps we are seeing the results of doing so. When I first read the title to this thread I said to myself hmmmm. I do think that this version is just a little slower than the previous one but it may just be me anyway overall I'm quite happy with the way it works and think i will most likely buy a copy for my wife's SDA she keeps asking for it.

This is what I'm experiencing:
the MDA goes turns off (screen is off). I press the BT button on my headset to activate VC and the MDA turns on. the problem is that it doesn't get out of the My Info screen. If I get out of that screen, I'm alright.
Wordaround:
1: go to Start->Settings->Owner Information
2. proceed to Options tab.
3. Untick "Identification information" under "When the device is turned on, display:"
I guess no one has that ticked.
PS: This is also true if you have your device pswd protected. You will have to press the BT button again, after you have entered your password.

I don't want to sound harsh here, but this has to be said in the most realistic form possible...
READ THE MANUAL!!!!
But since someone else will probably ask the same question a million times i'll copy and paste the information from the manual for you...
The Voice Command Button doesn't work when the password screen is displayed - The password screen blocks the Voice Command Button to avoid other people from placing phone calls while your device is locked. To enable, uncheck the 'Password Protected' option. Note some organizations prevent this override from working due to increased corporate security measures.

Honestly in the future read the manual it will make you look wiser and make people like me less upset.
I did get a hold of the manual after the post and realized that check box. However, that tick does not help by pass the "My Info" screen. I still have that problem. Hence, my workaround.

If your workaround fixes it then it can serve as a resource for people when the manual isn't working...
I recommended the manual simply because i had the problem when i first installed VC 1.6 and after ticking the checkbox, as mentioned in the manual, the problem was solved for me.
My specs are as follows...
T-Mobile MDA (USA)
Official T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
Plantronics Discovery 340 BT headset
I have no problems with BT and VC 1.6.... I haven't changed my owner info or my password protection. The headset wakes my phone from standby and is ready to go when i press the button on the headset.
frazell:
you're a freaking moron. I said what I said in the followup because it's supposed to help you if the program isn't doing what it's supposed to do. I don't know where you've been but this happens in the software industry. The manual says one thing and the software does something else. As a software developer, this i DO know.
Here are MY specs:
MDA
Offical Tmo's 2.26 /w radio 2.47 <-- that might be the culprit
opmap
SE HBH-662
BTW, the manual ALWAYS works (unless you have problems opening up doc files or ur doc file is corrupted). It's the freaking program that doesn't work according to what the manual says.
25 years in the world of IT/software R&D have taught me that often times the developers and the people doing the documentation sometimes don't communicate very well.

Hey, someone sent me this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5802839981
From first glance, it totally looks like a hoax. However, is it possible that someone figured out a way to rewrite the ROM to replace the BT stack?? And why would it require the IMEI number?? I have some serious doubts, but I'd like to hear some others informed opinnions.
-Chris
Looks like a hoax. They do have 99 feedback, but then that probably means someone probably just hacked their account.
Here is the main wording from the ad, it I notice that nobody has bought one of these yet so no feedback on whether it works. Why would it be emailed to the phone if it is a zip file, it would make more sense to send it by normal email. I think the imei may be a protection device to prevent you using the patch on other phones, the patch will probably work only with that specific imei number.
It's very simple to install this. Just include your your IMEI number from your Siemens Cingular SX66 in the notes field when you make the paypal payment and I will configure and email you a specific update for your phone. To lookup your IMEI, just type *#06# on your phone. When you get my update, unzip the file and upload it to your cell phone memory. use the folder/file viewer on the phone to click on the file. This will install the update. Then unplug your battery for a few seconds, plug it in again and your update will be complete. Then remove any bluetooth settings, delete any profiles, delete any paired BT devices and rescan and pair your BT headset. It's that simple. This update takes about 10 seconds normally. I have never seen any loss of data or any other errors due to this update
Here are some quotes from the Cingular forum (where I found about this patch) on this topic http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=siemens&message.id=10667 (at the end of the page)
From the author: arikinthecity
It has nothing to do with the wireless.
I am selling a software update the I created for the SX66. The problem is not with the headset that you are buying. It is with the bluetooth software on the SX66. Siemens doesn't want to spend the time and money to fix the problem. They will not even discuss it. They don't care. The reason is that they don't sell enough. This model will be replaced with another model soon and Siemen's will just move on. So will Cingular. That's why I got sick and tired of waiting and I created an update.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5802839981
Now you can buy the same update and install it on your phone in a few minutes. I'm selling the update on ebay.

Well that's your opinion. I know that this update fixes the SX66. I have tested it on a few SX66 and it makes a world of difference. The only earpiece I recommend is the Motrolla HS820 earpiece. Jabra BT earpieces create problems with other cell phones so I don't recommend them for the SX66. Anyway for those of you who are interested, get my upgrade. If you feel that my efforts should not be rewarded for a small amount of $5 then enjoy using your SX66 plastered to your face. It doesn't work well with any wired earpiece because it needs a stereo 3 conductor plug. It doesn't work with any BT earpiece with the regular siemen's upgrade.
If you are angry at me, your anger is misguided. I am trying to find a solution. It's Siemens that is not updating this phone properly like Audiovox, Sprint, Orange, and other brands are. HTC gives the tools to update it. They just won't bother because it costs too much.
Have a great weekend everybody. If you still want to get the update, just follow the link in my previous posts.

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. As I stated the JT250 doesn't work any better with your fix than it did before. Your unbiased and intelligent appriasal of the situation is indicated by your childish response. I was willing to blow the $5 to find out, but since you're going to insult me you can deal with the Paypal complaint.
The phone works fine with a wired earpiece. I don't know what you think the plug problem is. I have used it with my Noise Cancelling aviation headset.

There can be 2 methods how to do such a fix:
1. Buy a 1000$ SDK from Broadcomm, and make a fix. But in this case 5$ is a very little price for such work.
2. Extract the audiogw.dll from one of the extended ROMs and give this DLL as his own "fix". In this case he is taking money for a free update offered by some operator. Imate offered such an update some time ago, maybe he is selling this update.
Just post it here, I think the IMEI number is bull****.
It's a fix isn't it, what does that has to do with IMEI.
Let the guys here extract the fix to see what has changed.
Greetz,
[email protected] :?
I think Mamaich is correct....this smells...
Why does he need an IMEI number? This has NOTHING to do with BT. I think he is offering an existing upgrade that anyone can download and in the meantime make money (to make it look "real") and getting your IMEI number (so he can sell it, and make more cash).
I contacted the seller...
I described my configuration (see signature). He told me that I would not see any benefits and suggested that the patch is to an earlier configuration (actually told me not to buy it!).
He claimed the IMEI number was keyed into the copy protection scheme that he was using.
Bottom line: if you're keeping up with the updates on this board, there's probably no reason to shell out the 5 bucks on an upgrade you already have.
goestoeleven wheare can I get the upgrade you have?
It solve the BT problem?
I'm tired of looking oktions to use my bluetooth headset clearly...
I have no Bluetooth solution
it still stinks... until we get an upgraded build, we're stuck with static...
If you haven't already done so, check out the SX66 Standardization Project:

This is probably the best you can do with what's available to us today... (waiting for WM2005)
If any of you have the problem that BT goes sleep mode and disconnects your headset, you may try this. It worked for me today. (note: this is only a workaround to prevent BT going sleep mode. This will not fix any of the BT distortion)
Click on the BT icon located at the bottom right of the today screen. Select BT Manager. Then, DON'T click on the X (Close) button of the BT Manager. Just click on the Start > Today icon. This will hide the BT Manager, but it will leave it running on the background (so this way it does not go in sleep mode). I tried this morning and my headset haven't disconnected in all day.
Hope it helps...
Just to summarise:
Tap on the BT Icon on bottom right, turn on BT, tap on the headset to activate then not click the "OK" on top right, instead "Start-Today" ??
Isn't working for me, tried it 10 times. Everytime I send the PDA into Standy and reactivate it and I tap on the BT icon it shows that the BT is not active.
daaaammmmnnnn... It looked soooo good the have a small solution for it.

WM5 Bluetooth A2DP
Just to share what I found...it may not be significant....
I Manage to see a Universal/O2 Exec proto device myself that Supports A2DP. It seems that MS Bluetooth Stack is not that crap afterall.
To use Bluetooth Stereo, the device has a shortcut under programs that says "Turn on Stereo HeadSet" and I have successfully paired the WM 5.0 device with my iTech S35 Stereo headset myself on the spot.
Anyway after what I saw I felt that this can be achieved on my BA WM5.
Hence, I started looking into the registry and started enabling the AudioGateway entries.......Suprise!!!! my iTech S35 was detected to have HeadSet Profile!!! But wat was missing was the Audio headset s/w......
oh yah bear in mind when I was trying the above my BA WM5 was without the "Headset today" patch.
hi all, well i finally had the courage to upgrade to wm5, i am overall really glad i did it however there are some issues i figured u might help me with.
1. i cant seem to find the device info (the one that shows the radio version ect...)
2.) i heard that wm5 comes with microsoft voice command, however i cant find it either.
3.) when i connect to the gprs i have to softreset to shut it off i was wondering if there is another way to shut it off without reseting.
thanks all
1. You need to see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27614 and the file you are looking for is ba_wm5_fix_v1.rar. This adds Device Info to your control panel as well as other apps like the ability to turn down your screen brightness, etc and some reg fixes to help speed up the little beast. There are some other files there too like a patch to get the camera working.
2. You heard wrong
3. Afraid I cant help you with as im having problems atm just getting my GPRS to connect, let alone disconnect. But this I can wait for since I have wireless access at home and at work.
Hope i've been some kinda help.
EDIT:
3. Got my GPRS working and I can disconnect be pressing and holding the call disconnect button for a few seconds.

Question -- I have TomTom on my Tilt ... it installs fine, and works fine ... however each time I start it up the sound is turned off .. .and I have to touch the screen, turn on the sound twice before the change in settings "sticks" and I get the voice giving me directions.
Any thoughts how I can fix this?
Mine does the exact same thing, otherwise it works perfectly. Running XDA Live 1.1 ROM...
That is the default function. You must always activate the sound after starting.

hate to tell you guys, but it's not the default. The sound is on when I fire up Tom Tom on my Tilt, I've never had any issue nor had to go into settings to turn it on before. Are you guys using a ROM other then the original one?
Default off on both my HK Kaiser & my AT&T Tilt. Don't know what to tell you.
Solution that works for me!
I have found that all I have to do is to rotate the volume wheel on the side of my Tilt and the sound gets turned on without having to go through the preferences menu. It will repeat the last direction when you do this but it doesn't bother me too much and it lets me know that the sound is enabled.
The same issues occur with the previous version 6.03
And on other PPCs as well (eg IPAQ hw6910).
But it does not happen always, so I deduce it's related to conflicts with other softwares.
And it certainly isn't a feature, as a previous poster suggested.
TT as a default always starts with sound ON.

I didn't have this problem until about 30 minutes ago, I received the Carcomm Cradle I ordered for the car, installed it, tried out TomTom and now I have the same problem as you.
Are any of you using a Carcomm Cradle?
The only other thing I changed before the sound problem is I bought a "Veripart 3-in-1 Converter HTC ExtUSB" so I can charge the PDA and listen to music using the 3,5 mm jack port.
I also have exactly the same problem, and solve it with the volume wheel. I also had this problem on my Hermes.
TomTom 'fixes'
FWIW, not sure why, but the volume wheel never solves my problem in a predictable fashion, so I've went and found the following apps that make things easier:
TomTom Menu Builder -- Change the location of where the 'Turn on sound' or any button shows up in the menu for faster access. e.g., I've placed my 'Turn on sound' button on page 1 with 'Navigate to' and 'exit application'. The menu also allows you to enable all sorts of 'hidden' menus, with the most useful being the voice preferences menu, which lets you choose how verbose the speaker is. Alternatively, if you're not up to installing the menu builder, you could download my TomTom menu (see attached). Either way, place TomTom.mnu in \TomTom\SdkRegistry.
TomTom Starter -- Make your phone volume max and turn off all notification popups before starting TomTom. Reverses volume and notification changes after exiting TomTom. Great for when you forget that your phone is on vibrate or at a low sound setting.
BTW, its not the ROM that is the problem, it most likely has to do with TomTom. I'm using 6.03, non-taster edition.
The sound will be muted when you start TomTom with a data connection active. If you disconnect your data connection (G, 3G or H) before starting TomTom the sound should be on.....

Thanks michi123, I seem to recall reading about this in another thread. However, that's still yet another application (comm manager) and button I need to press before starting TomTom.
It's much easier for me to use the two applications I've included, as I'll need to go into the menu anyway to enter my navigation point and should I forget to turn off vibrate or crank up my volume, TomTomStarter fixes that for me...

Excellent! That works. And unless you have changed the functionality of your end button (like in the xda ROM) it is pretty quick to hold down the red end button (to close all data connections) before opening TomTom.
But it's not very effective when you're using a converged device, right?
I mean, would you turn off your phone every time you'd want to load TT, and then have to remember to turn it back on (while still inside TT)?

All holding down the end key does is cancel all active data connections .. it does not "turn off" the phone (unless you happen to be on a call). So yes, if you want to tun TT when you are on the phone, this solution will not work, but if you want to run TT when you are not actively speaking, holding down the end key first solves the sound problem. Then, you can still make and receive calls and, for that matter, you can still use data programs too, all with TT running.
Very useful thread, I've just updated mine and my G/Fs TyTns, we both have exactly the same ROM and RADIO, hers starts with Volume on, Mine starts with Volume off, the only real difference is that we're on different service providers, we both have MS ActiveSync running against our different corporate Exchange servers, and I have reduced my connectivity to GPRS to save battery. Will give the Tweaker app a go and see what happens. Sh
Alex. What version of tomtom are you running. I cannot get the menu file to work with my version 6.032(8351) no taster version.
Hi guys,
I just wanted to post on here cos I noticed some information that I didn’t agree with and also I have tested what others have said and it works so I thought I would say thankyou in one breath and bugger in another.
I have tested TomTom 6.031 SDK version on a HTC TyTN2, Glofiish, HP614c, HTC p3300 and a HTC Cruise and all of them start TomTom with the sound muted if they have a data connection active!
Sound is not muted at start-up if there is no data connection. This is great to know as I was baffled by it all but it also causes me a pain in that I need the data connection all the time, so I think its a mistake if TomTom themselves presume otherwise.
I have a XDA Orbit 2 on order but I am guessing it will be the same with that. I dont remember this issue with Windows Mobile 5, but it happens for sure on 6.
Also I have an issue with the 6.031 SDK and the unmute function call doesn’t appear to work!
Ho hum... so many devices with the same issue....
Ram
I have to admit I made a slight error in my statement above, I hadn’t tried it on the HTC p3300 and got the same result, it would appear that the HTC p3300 is the only device out of the many I have tried that doesn’t switch to silent when loading TomTom while a data connection is active.
I am trying to work out why this is as I am running the same software installation on all the devices.
First off I'm using "Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid UC" 3/29/08 ROM release and I have the device connected to AT&T. I've been using it for a few days and am seeing few annoying occurrences which I'm sure can be fixed, but I'm unsure how to do it.
Here is my current list of issues that I'm seeing:
1. While making a call the screen blanks out, which is fine, but how to I get it to re-enable to say dial a key (when prompted), I seem very good at hanging up when I attempt to do this.
2. FTouchFlo, even when I using the config program and uncheck the "Auto start" box and reset, it still starts up. Is this a bug?
3. Voice Command, I know its installed and I can see it in settings, but what I want to use it for is simple voice dialing, and contact lookup, without having to connect a headset.
4. Playing games, I've noticed that many games either lockup or are unresponsive to the stylist, is this a WM6.1 issue or something else?
Thanks,
ERIC

One added request. It would be great to include, perhaps in a text attachment, ms voice command's list of progam files and registry entries.
Seperate by the two primary versions for 1.6.
The information would invaluable for cooks to go back into a clean rom and clean out left over files and registry entries or allow them to strip the full version out if they wish to upgrade it or leave it out entirely.
Left over files/reg entries may as you know cause issues when adding or upgrading the ms voice.

Cancel VC announcement while In progress?
Bengalih, Great write up!
Is there a way that you know of to cancel VC's announcement mid stream? That is to say, there are times when VC will start to announce an email, or read SMS while I am on a call and I would like a way to shut it up quickly. It is terrible when you are on the phone with client A and your phone starts to announce a call from client B, or even worse sitting quietly on a conference call and it starts reading an SMS... Some how this always bleeds through my BT headset so the person I am on the phone with hears it.
Thanks!

crussell. Thanks for the vote of support. Unfortunately the issue you describe plagues me as well. I don't think there is anything wrong with the software and by this I mean it isn't a bug, just something the developers didn't think through very well.
There are only two ways to stop the incoming announcements:
Turn them off
Check the box in Notifications that says "Only during free time"
What this box means is that if you have an appointment in your calendar that sets your free/busy disposition to "busy" then announcements will not come through.
However, if you get an incoming call you will still get the call waiting beeps which can be just as distracting (if anyone knows how to turn these off please let me know...they are unrelated to MSVC).
So, if you know you are going to be on an important call you can first go into your calendar and make an appointment and set your time to busy.
The only solution I can see, short of a new version which takes these things into account is if someone can figure out how to fool the system into thinking your time is "busy". I don't know if MSVC looks for a registry flag or if there is a free/busy connector (API) that it taps into. If someone could make a little app that would toggle free/busy time that would be fantastic. Unfortunately I cannot code for WM to this degree.
AHA!
I take back what I said...at least the part of me not knowing how to fix it
There does indeed appear to be a registry location that records your current free/busy status.
I have written another script tool which will perform a toggle of your free/busy status effectively turning off any incoming announcements when toggled off.
Check it out here

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I've stopped using MSVC on my Tilt via Bluetooth because 3 of 3 times I've messed with this (getting battery status, call person, etc type commands) I've found later that the phone won't dial out or receive calls anymore! First two times it happened I was a bit puzzled, but the third time it clicked that it only happened sometime after initiating a call or such via MSVC with Bluetooth.
Anyone else noticed this? I find it odd that it'd freeze up the phone portion of the Tilt, but it does 100% of the time for me. IIRC, hitting the Green button shows the Phone titlebar and menus but the screen itself never draws. I can hit the OK button to get back to the Today screen, and the Phone app is listed in the list of applications running I believe, but it won't die and won't work until I do a reset.
I installed MSVC from a CAB here on this forum, and it generally works but this problem with bluetooth is pretty annoying as the main reason I wanted to get the program is to do bluetooth commands for dialing.
The more I think about it, it's possible that using the bluetooth commands then doing "run command suspend" (I think that's the syntax, it's been a few weeks since I tried it last) to turn off the Tilt immediately might also cause it problems. I was doing that because otherwise it stays on for quite a while, when it seems to me it should turn itself off fairly quickly.
I'll try your new version and edit-back
I have never experienced this issue with MSVC. I have tried it out successfully on at least half a dozen ROMS.
Although I am not intimately familiar with the inner working of code in either MSVC or WM in general, I don't know really know how this could interfere.
Other reported issues with MSVC involve:
Audio gateway being left open
Radio going dead
I'm also not sure how MSVC could interfere with the radio....
My first thought is Don't Blame MSVC!
I say this since I (and many other's) haven't had problems with it...it obviously is a program that CAN function properly.
If you are using a cooked ROM that has MSVC built-in or you are installing it from scratch, read through this whole guide and make sure you understand and update/tweak your copy.
I would recommend installing the latest version I have posted 1.6.19290 as I have already had reports of this clearing up some people's issue.
When posting problems regarding MSVC in the future, please refer to the main thread posts, where I will detail the information you should provide.
Let me know what you come up with!
I've got an issue I can't find an answer to. I have MSVC installed on my Tilt and it worked fine up until about a week ago. Since then I can initiate MSVC via my bluetooth headset but get no audio for the prompts (i.e. the ding to tell me it's ready for input, the audio confirmation for who to call).
Also, notifications stopped working via bluetooth. I've checked all the settings and everything is fine, they're exactly as they were when VC was working properly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and deleting and repairing my headset. Nothing seems to work.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
