I just purchased an SPV M1500. Is this the same as the XDA IIi? I bought it already unlocked. Are there any differences in the ROM besides splash screens / logos? Is there a way to put the O2 XDA IIi ROM on this device?
Last question... I bought it from someone in the UK, and I live in the US, I currently subscribe to Cingular Wireless. Has anyone had issues with this?
Any reply would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brock
Same device, slightly different looks.
All Alpine ROMs will work and the splash images etc can all be changed, at ROM upgrade or later. Find a ROM you want and follow instructions.
The device is tri-band so long as you live in an area where you don't need quad band you'll be OK.
Any more questions, there are plenty of people here to ask, just don't ask the dreaded WM5 question, the answer will be NO.
Good luck.
LOL!! I got that loud and clear. I thought people were supposed to be reading through the forum for their answer before posting stupid/redundant questions??? NO WM5, at least yet. I don't have a desire for that right now anyways. What would be the benefit?
The earth is so small. You know what, you have bought the phone from me on ebay, Brock Miller. Have you received the phone yet? I could give you help on upgrading the phone, if you needed it. At the moment, if you wanted the latest rom, then it is imate PDA2 ROM.
Nam? Oh my gosh!!! I can't believe you frequent this site as well? Wow... Thats cool. It is indeed a small world. No I haven't received the SPV-1500 yet, I was just asking a few questions about it before hand. I can't wait to get it though. I'll drop you an e-mail when it comes in. Have a good one!
It's nice to meet you here as well. The phone will arrive very soon. Keep the eyes on your work place, you will need to sign for it. Give me a sound when you need helps and have fun with the phone.
Yes! It was.
Will I personally have to sign for it? Or can my shipping department sign for it?
Also, what phone do you have now?
as long as you could arrange someone to sign for it, then that's fine. I think I just buy a cheap phone for now, untill the new HTC Muse comes out. This would be the best phone ever.
Except for the 4GB of storage, and the camera it looks like the HTC Universal has better specs. Why the muse? I really would have liked to have bought an HTC Universal, but I couldn't find any that were reasonably priced, .
Simply, because it is very compact, has everything that I wanted. I originally had the VPA compact which is HTC Magician, but it doesn't have wifi built in that why I sold it. I also did have HTC Universal ( SPV M5000 ) once and I do not advice you to get one. No only because of the price ( I got it for £250 ), it is also very very slow ( before buy it, I thought it would be very fast, but it's not, even slower than HTC wizard ) and bloody massive. I had it for one day and sold it the next day, you can imagine how dissapointed I was.
The only good thing about the HTC Universal is the infrared transfer speed ( 4mb/s ) and range ( 7 metres ) which is good for TV remote control softwares. However, that is not good enough for the price.
Wow, that would be very diappointing. What did you not like about the HTC Alpine? Too bulky also?
The HTC Alpine is not as big as the HTC Universal and HTC Blue Angle ( actually it is quite compact for such a powerful device ), has wifi built in, powerful processor ( don't be confused with the Intel PXA 270 520MHZ of HTC Universal, it is Intel PXA 272 520MHZ ) and better bluetooth than other HTC device ( support file transfer service and more ). The only thing that I do not like about it is that the infared range is too short ( 70 cm ) for Remote control programs which is the same on other HTC devices, except for the HTC Universal ( 7 metres ) and HTC magian ( 3 metres ) ( that's why I sold it ). But if you can live with it, then the HTC Alpine is the best Mobile Phone/Pocket PC to have at the moment in term of features and price.
I just received the SPV M1500!! Even though you tried, the power adapters that you sent were the wrong kind. The U.S. uses 110 V. Also, all looks ok, but it showed more wear than I thought it would. There was a scratch on the screen, a tiny crack just above the "joystick" hole, and the external antenna port hole cap is missing (not a huge deal, just doesn't look as good with out it). Do you know if TomTom has a US map available to buy?
As my description the phone is used. I am so sorry, if it dissapointed you. TOMTOM and USA map are already included on the DVD, just follow the installation guide that is also in the in the box. Let me know anything that I could help you with. I will try to find the cover at the back for you, if I could not find it, then I would refund you some money, so you could get a new silicon case for it. Really sorry.
No way!! No this is fine. Its still a very nice phone. If you can find the cover, that would be nice, but I don't expect a refund by any means. I still got a good price. I need to find an AC adapter for this cradle though. I imagine that won't be too hard to come by, I just hope it doesn't cost too terribly much. Thanks again for the phone. I am overall pleased. It is so much better than my Wallaby. Also, I can charge it in the wallaby cradle for now. I was lucky, it fits, not quite right, but good enough. Thanks again. Also, I see where there is indeed USA maps with TomTom included. Sorry about that.
Brock
Or can I just send you some softwares in return? Just name the softwares, I will find them for you. I am now selling some softwares for pocket pc on ebay, just take a look, if you like them, let me know I will send them to you. Also I just find out that if you installed Imate PDA2 ROM UPDATE, the infrared range will be incresed to about 3 metres. If you was not so sure how to install ROM UPDATE, let me know, I will give you the web link with installation guide.

All HTC Alpine devices have the same hardwares. Therefore, it is possible to change ROM between different made like Imate, Qtek, Orange, etc. However, you must follow some steps to avoid Country ID error.
Hello,
i want to sell my kaiser on ebay but i flashed it with wimo 6.1 and Hardspl can i get problems if i sell it on ebay?
Thanks for any answer
As long as the unit works I can't see there being a problem.
If its still under warranty, I would flash it back to original ROM otherwise your prospective buyer might be up sh1t creek if it goes wrong. UNLESS you provide the original ROM and instruction on how to restore the original boot loader and the original ROM.
Full Disclosure and you will not have a problem HOWEVER you will scare buyers away once they see you've mod-ed it. Thus less bids or higher bids
Like me, I would not buy it without the OEM ROM even though I know where to get help..here!
But that's just me others either won't care, won't notice or know wth your talking about or will buy it because you have a different ROM....
Still why limit your customers needlessly.
Flash back to ATT ROM then let the Joe Blows make thier own choices !
You'll get more for it selling it unlocked with windows mobile 6.1 on ebay.
sell it unlocked son
yeah i agree if the phone is unlocked more people would go after it
Hi everyone
I have the above as a works phone and cannot really SPL the thing. I have read all new ones are pre-loaded with 6.1?
Does anyone know when Orange plan on releasing a 6.1 update, or if a copy has got out into the wild, or if the new phones have been copied and if there is a some way I could update?
Many thanks for any comments from you techno gods out there....
htc has some website that you can look on to see if your company has a rom update. I'm from the states and htc hates us so we don't have that option. (unless we actually bought a kaiser and not a tilt) So I am not versed in the HTC website format.
orange not released an updated yet but you could use the latest HTC rom and put that on your phone but you will need to hard spl it first, i recommend 3.28 as im using it and everythings fine.
The rom is ruu_Kaiser_htc_wwe_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_28.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_ship.exe you can download from this site
if new to changing roms then you need to do a bit of re search on this site and also you'll need to load SSPL-KAIS first on your phone before the Kaiser-HardSPL3.28 and then finally the rom above. all available on this site somewhere.
At first it seems complicated but after 20 or so flashes its a dodle....

intrested in finding this website.... t-mobile staff didn't seem to know anything about a 6.1 update when i recently e-mailed them.
T-mobile maybe releasing the update in July or August is the official response to be timed with the release of the Vario 4
Bump!
If the phones that currently ship are coming with 6.1 is it possible to lift the rom and put it on my phone?
Thanks for any info....
My Kaiser that arrived on Friday has 6.0 on it not 6.1
It's on the Three network
Don't know about 3, but orange are I believe. I heard they took the phone out of sale for two weeks to make the change?
Surely on this doyen of PDA knowledge, someone can give me an answer. Aren't there any orange staff reading this?
Orange are rubbish - why would they give a ****?
Im disappointed in Orange. They are supposed to be releasing 6.1, but it never seems to happen... They say keep an eye on the download site, but the rom never arrives!
I wish they would sort this out... I love the phone, but a bit fed up that the vibrator never stops sometimes when I get an email!
S
actually if you compare orange to at&t orange is the better provider
for instance i broke my universal (spv m5000) and they deliver the next day. on 15 quid admin cost wereas at&t charge extortionat prices for this
they have a better 3g coverage great customer service
the only reason im dissappointed is because they **** about with there roms thats why its take a while to get them out i rang orange about a week ago and they said 5 months
but at least if it dies you can get a fast delivery of a new one
I wish they would hurry up!!
Do you know if they ship new ones with 6.1, or still 6.0??
S
They are shipping new ones with 6.1. There are several people on differant forums reporting how much quicker their replacement phones are to their old 6.0.
Can the new rom be lifted and put on to a version 6.0 without spl. ANYBODY??
Orange might never release the damn thing. I ask you, if its OK for new phones why not release it?
had my tytn II now for a couple of weeks and can say its 6.1. afaik all tytns now shipped by orange should be flashed with 6.1 but be wary in dealerships as they may still be clearing old stock running on 6
Mine has a small fault... I was just going to ignore it, but if the Orange Care replacement will be 6.1, then I might report it after all...
Anyone had an Orange Care replacement of a 6.0 for a 6.1??
Thanks

Behave. You will get bad experiences with all networks, your infinitely superior network included.
As for 6.1, not in Orange stores yet. I work in Orange retail, theres certainly been no recall to update them. The website is listing them as out of stock when the retail allocation is still OK, so its possible the business website has pulled them to update them to 6.1 - even though on the spec sheet its still showing as ver 6.
hhmmm sound promising. the only ****er with replacing is the fact i have to keep the back cover which has started to deteriorate. and some of the clips have snapped of the back

Tell them the covers broken, you'll have to pay the admin fee regardless, a broken backdoor impedes normal function of the phone if say...the battery keeps falling out. Or something.
Generally though, handset replacements are refurbed kit which will obv be reflashed, so its feasible that it'll have 6.1 but I wouldnt hold out for it.
ill wait until the phone kicks it. at least the admins so low. atnt charge eq 200 quid for replacements and orange uk pay 15
lovin it
just had to have a replacement phone off orange care last week my replacement still as only got version 6 on it
Hi Guys,
Was just hoping for some feedback - has anyone tried getting HTC to warranty repair a phone that does not have all the original roms on it?
I need to send mine back for what is clearly a damaged / faulty mini USB port and have managed to restore the original Radio / OS and splash (by using microSD card) but am unable to downgrade the H-SPL 3.56 to the original because the process requires the USB connection.
Any experiences that you have with this kind of thing may be a good indication to the response I and many others may get...
Thank you in advance

The problem with the steps above are that you cannot flash an SPL using anything other than USB.

The problem is: he has Hard SPL on not the OEM SPL and without USB you cannot flash a new SPL.
The question still stands.
I have read threads before of people returning phones with new SPL's and getting away with it, but I think thats ATT.
Also, I think this would be better in the Kaiser General Forum in future (or if any mods want to move it).
Thanks
Dave
My bad, thanks for correction. News to me! I'd like to see how this plays out, too.
I always sent my device with modded spl, no problems yet (germany)
Had the same problem (faulty usb-connector). Sent my device for repair, with custom rom and hardspl on it. 3 Days later it came back repaired. No fuss about the rom or anything.
a friend sent his touch to htc for repair with non-stock spl. came back 3 weeks later and was repaired (germany)
IMHO, if still using custom ROM, it's very noticeable to the service guy, different layouts, apps, settings. But if you've revert to stock ROM, the hardspl would be barely noticed.
I sent my JasJam (Hermes) with original ROM but HardSPL'd, and they didn't noticed. At least, they didnt ask. =)
It's my understanding from the ATT rep that services our corporate account that the chances are pretty slim that they'd notice or give you any grief over a boot loader. It's just not something that's checked. In fact, chances are pretty slim they'll even notice a different rom either in most cases as they just don't troubleshoot at that level often, but I wouldn't take that chance.
According to our rep, for the most part they just replace the phone, rather than repair it, and then fix/reflash the phone you turn in and sell it as a refurb.
YMMV depending on your carrier, of course, but that's what our ATT guy told me when I expressed concern about my own phone.
peace,
Aielman
Just wondering how much people paid to have their usb ports fixed from HTC? Got a refurb from AT&T and my port broke right after the 30 warranty expired...
returning a tilt with broken USB in NYC
hey all,
i returned my tilt at the ATT warranty center in NYC three weeks ago.
they tried plugging in the USB, saw it didn't work, brought out a refurb (which was in very good condition, although you keep your battery and stylus) and that was that. as USB was broken i could not flash back to stock and had to take my chances. as of now, no issues with new phone or charge on my att or cc bill for new phone (b/c of a warranty breach).
so in my case, all good. always be polite and patient with the service folk.
they are there to help but not to be messed with.
as of now, i am not reflashing my tilt until after the official ROM is released.
once thats released for TILTs and new ROMs for TILTs have been cooked I'll think about it again. i had been using Dutty 4/29 and L26v9.
and in general it was fine. other ROMs always left me with unacceptable freeze issues. i have installed almost all of what I want with CABs and since I have done that my phone is faster and more stable than it was with cooked ROMs.
hope that helps.
michael
Thank you all for your replies... I am dealing with HTC directly in UK. I will let you know how I get on with my non-original SPL.
(If I remember and am not overly distracted with belated joy or depression).
Just to let you folks know, HTC fixed it (replaced main board).
Obviously now on stock rom (need to unlock again bah!).
Was hoping for updated ROM, but didn't get it DOUBLE BAH!
Hi guys.
I'm interested in buying a Kaiser.
I'd flash the rom with Tir v10k, seems working good.
What do you think of this smartphone?
I usually use Nokia with Symbian, just wanted that for trying it.
Is it the same if I get a V1615, Mda Vario III, P4550, Htc Tytn II, Xda Stellar? Or not?
I'm trying to buy it on Ebay, sometimes you can get a good price, I don't want to pay it more than 200€.
I found the utility for unlocking it, in case of device locked to some operator: it's not difficult the operation, right?
Tell me what you think.
Thanks
I also used to use nokia symbian phones but beleive me bro once i got a tytn2 and started flashing roms and "buying" programs for it i wil NEVER go back to a symbian phone the wm phone are so much more versatile than symbian.
The unlocking process is very simple its just like installing a game to you pc as long as you follow the instructions you cant go wrong (well most cant).
Would highly recommend a kaiser/tynt2 also opposed to buying one off e-bay there is a site selling them brand new for around £260 maybe £240 cant remember have a google, would be better if you cant get it new for warranty purposes.
Enjoy your phone when you get it,i am due an upgrade now but regardless of getting a new phone i am not going to sell my tytn 2.
Also i have just posted about anyone who has bricked there kaiser/tytn2 because i didnt take very good care of my housing and am looking to buy a second hand good condition housing,so USE the pouch it comes with because it will chip easily if you drop it, i just paid £25.88 just for a battery cover for it so be warned.
Thanks so much for fast reply.
Can you give some examples of useful sofwares for Windows Mobile?
I cannot find the site you're talking about for taking a new one. Do you think they have many problems that I should need warranty? I don't want a phone for bringing it to assistance every month. Is warranty European on these products?
Thanks

The softwares that are usefull all depend on what you are going to be using the phone for...there are many different UI (User Interfaces) available to download like htc home, manilla 2d/3d, spb mobile shell just to mention a few it all depends on what you want on your home screen.
The warranty is the manafacturers warranty which means that if theres is a manafacturers fault with the device you can send it back for upto one year, some phones will allways be sent out with a fault that got past the manafacturers tests but not very often but it does sometimes happen and if your the unlucky person that gets that one in ten thousand phone you will want to send it back.
I personally have had no problem with my tytn2,there is so much software out there for all walks of life.
I wil try and find that site for you...
Heres one...
