Hi,
Where is the new rom from HTC to enable our Trinitys with GPS capability? I know the Dopod rom is out but it has a lot of jargon attached to it. They said March and it came and no news.
Thanks,
Gilbert

I agree this is frustrating. The DOPOD ROM has been available for a month now and basically they are the same company. They don't seem to care too much for their European customers.
Answer from HTC last Week
I ask HTC last week, from where i can get an update, because i didn't bought the p3600 from a provider. This was the answer:
The HTC P3600 currently does not offer GPS Functionality. While we are aware that some other derivatives of the P3600 may have already released this update, HTC has not yet set a date on the final release of the ROM update, as other updates are being included in the release.
Please continue to check the www.europe.htc.com support section for an update section, which is to be included once ROM updates have been released.
i've given up waiting, just flashed mine with a GPS enabled rom
i think. they'll out in second half of march... be patient

Dude, that sounds hot! What if one of those other updates is WM6 or some really useful bug-fix?
There are a plethora of other bugs on this device that need fixing (camera driver issues, cpu/imageon compatibility issues, skype speaker issue). I for one will be happy to wait until the end of the month if we get fixes for other issues too.
I've got a Spanish Trinity and also made a question about the GPS ROM update to HTC, here is the answer:
Thank you for your enquiry concerning the HTC P3600 mobile device.
The HTC P3600 currently does not offer GPS Functionality. There is a possibility of an update to enable the GPS functions of the device at a future date, and we hope to be able to do this as soon as possible, but we cannot and do not guarantee this.? If you buy the P3600 for possible future GPS functionality, you do so entirely at your own risk.
I hope we have it shortly but I've got my doubts!!!

That's the same message they were sending in December. Obviously the support people can only feed you with canned responses when it comes to future products or enhancements.
Hello,
I have just bought P3600 except operator pack.
I know that Orange brought out a ROM with the GPS. Having an orange abo, that will happen if I put this rom? Has it a risk there of shooting my HTC?
Thx

It really shoes that htc give a sh*** about their europoean costomers.
Here in germany already vodafone got the trinity with gps ans sells it under their brand. but you cant download the rom.
I'm going to try to get the rom at vodafone on the cebit in 2 weeks. But I don't think I'll be successfull. I think theys will tell me "You cant get the rom because you don't own a original vodafone product" or stuff like that.
I'll never buy an htc pda again this supoort is joke! They're sending the same messages for month. I guess they think: "Hey this guy already baught our product, so why should we take care of if he gets gps on it."
to be honnest, all the gps roms like the one from dopod and orange still have bugs in them.
no bass, touchdcreenslowdown etc;
i'd rather wait a bit longer for an htc rom if that means those bugs are fixed awell
I mean it would be ok if htc says that they realse it in april or even in may. But they say nothing, so it's possible too that they never release a gps update for the htc P3600.
You are right guys, it would be better if HTC would tell us at least the month they will realease their Rom update but nothing. I bought a product which costs more than my salary here in tunsia an got a product which would be perfect if the bugs would be fixed, but theres no reaction which can help us out of this problem, I would wait until june or even july. After the HTC Magician, HTC just sold gargabe, Im not contently with the support of HTC, I think thats the last time I´ve bought something of them.
Spoke to the HTC Boogers in London to ask them when they are releasing their rom upgrade with GPS enabled and they said they still don't know yet and they acknowledged that a rom is in the cooking but they cannot confirm if the GPS or WM6 will be included but they said that they are addressing all the errors and bugs found in the earlier rom to be fixed in the new rom. They mentioned something like two to three months for the new rom release. BIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time I will buy a bloody Dopod and live with their network jargon on the device

Next time I might buy an HP. At least they have a good record in terms of providing bug fixes and updates. It doesn't make sense to buy the most feature rich device if it takes ages to fix bugs and deliver full functionality.
The "busy signal through loudspeaker" bug is just ridiculous. They should have fixed it months ago.
Ranting!
I dont understand your ranting. This device is marvelous. You can get GPS if you use other roms. I do not have a touchscreen issue and with my Bluetooth headset sound is okay. There is no device on the market with all this (working!) features AND this smart design and form factor. I had an Dell Axim x51v before and support was a nightmare!

I agree. After upgrading to the Dopod rom, installing SPB Mobile Shell instead of SPB PocketPlus and upgrading to Navigon 6.1 gps software, this device works fast and very stable. It is much better than I originally anticipated.

I have never used HP PocketPC phones but I had three HP iPaq PocketPCs in the past (two of them were actually still branded Compaq) and for two of those three HP/Compaq provided an upgrade to the next OS release and generally for all of them they issued at least 10 updates/patches/improvements. You can check the HP site and find these updates yourself.
On the other hand HTC/Qtek/Dopod have never ever offered OS upgrades and their response time in handling problems has always been awful. In fact I own a Qtek S200 bought on Expansys and to this date I would not have access to any correction at all if it wasn't for this site. I would not be able to use my stereo bluetooth headset with that phone because there is no OFFICIAL way to enable A2DP on that phone even if we all know that it is technically possible and I have used the "home-made" solution for months.
Honestly it just stinks that we must rely on this site and patch products costing 400 pounds with unofficial software to make them work correctly. And I see this as HTC's fault.
SO: no, I am not clueless and I am reporting my specific personal experience. On the other hand you have just sent a meaningless message without any substance as to why I would be "clueless".

Hi all,
We developed software that suits well on 2020 and 2020i. Yesterday, I noticed that the Qtek 2020i isn't available anymore!
Now we are looking for an alternative device that has the same functionalities as the 2020i WITHOUT any fragile keyrboard.
What we need is:
- GSM / GPRS
- Bluetooth
- SD-cardslot
- 3,4 " screen
- Camera on board
What are alternative devices on the market??
Sam
Charmer, Prophet, Wizard are the HTC devices currently available, see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_PhoneModels
The processors are < Alpine. I think Prophet is the only one with a full size sd. All are WM2005.
Or have a look at your local www.expansys.com site.

I did this also and noticed E-ten, but they all have a 2.8" screen... :?
Any other suggestions?
Sam
Oops, diddnt notice the screen size
Don't Mio do a 'fullsized' one. The 701 has 2.7" but I thought there was another. Did a quick google but I couldn't find it.
[EDIT] Looking at http://www.mio-tech.be/products/ looks like if they did it is discontinued
i am also searching for an alternative. the alpine is almost 2 years old and the most companys just won´t to build in an 520mhz processor like in the alpine. so what is the improvement?? 3.2 inch display is also ver rare...
Has anyone of you got a device with less than 520mhz and uses powerful gps navigation like igo? what is your experience? is 400mhz (not to mention 200mhz) with windows mobile 6 enough?
I can´t belive that i have to pay 500 bugs to get a device with a new OS and LESS mhz!!!
by the way...the universal is much to big for me.
please post your opinions!!! thx.
I have the same opinion. I also don't want to buy slower device...
I have a Panda (P6300) on order. The specs are similar and the form factor nearly identical
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=735&id2=164
I'm not familiar with the Alpine, but a lot of reviewers are calling the Panda a throwback, or retro device and mentioning it in the same breath as the Alpine.
The Panda is only running at 400Mhz, but perhaps the reported speediness of WM6 might help to make up some of the difference in that regard, as compared to the Alpine's 520Mhz processor. It ships with WM5, but there is speculation that HTC will offer a WM6 upgrade.
panda?
hi, the panda seems to be a really good device.... where did you order it?? and how much?? thank you very much for further information!
I ordered mine from Dynamism. They don't carry them so it was a special order. It only took them 5 days to get it there, and they shipped it to me on Friday. I should have it Tuesday. I've seen them around from $629 - $749US. Mine was right in the middle, though I can't quote you an exact price as it was special order. You can call them to find out what they would charge you.
I hope it is good device. It is nothing fancy and has drawbacks, but it should serve me well so long as it does well what it is supposed to do.
Good Luck!
Why don't we try to get the WM 5.0 out of the panda and try it in our ALPINEs
Did any one try to do that ?
BT have a new one out aimed at the Corporate user who missed something similar to the XDA2i with its larger screen. Cant remember what it is called but it is the same form factor as the XDA2i just WM5 and a better camera. Made specially for them by HTC.
The new o2 one with a 3.5 inch screen is called the XDA Argon basically an updated XDA2i, think it came out in July
http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/8240/leaked-info-on-att-treo-750-and-680-rom-updates/
i am looking forward to "oversized mute and speakerphone controls" !!! ...seems diff from the leaked ver, i think...
Maybe, but I'm not holding my breath on that.
I'm hoping the big delay is due to the implementation of the carousel into the today screen and similar as with the 500/centro.
Wouldn't that be nice, the states get the latest and greatest first for once
I saw this news too. Treo Central is reporting that "an internal AT&tT presentation has been posted." Follow link below...

Of course the URL on the presentation is producing a 404 error today ... 3 days after it was supposed to be available ...

You mean the more than just the top line of those two buttons will now be visible when the Touchscreen Disabled message overlays them (when Auto-Disable Touchscreen while on call is selected)?
This is probably the only reason I would go to the trouble of "upgrading" from my "Leaked AT&T" WM6 version
Palm tech support told me today (10/21) that they have released WM6 to ATT for testing. Anyone have any idea how much longer we wait from here?
I should hope AT&T has been testing it. We've been testing WM6 for months now.
My unofficial, unscientific and uneducated guess: We'll finally get the official release sometime after yesterday.
I was talking to AT&T business customer service regarding my account. Before i got off the phone i asked a question regarding the availability of WM6 for the treo 750. He said the upgrade is out and available to all thier retail stores in effort to upgrade the existing stock of Treo 750 with WM5 to WM6 in preperation for the arrival of the new TREO 750 with WM6 included. Once the above mentioned is complied with, the upgrade for existing users will hit the perverbial shelves...
Giving Back..
jhowle
Excellent, jhowle! Thanks.
Anyone have any thoughts on how the upgrade will go for those of us with the leaked rom? Think the update will work as advertised? Or will we have to extract the cheeimg.nbh?
Not a huge deal either way. Just curious.
ladues and gent i finally gave in and went back to htc product, treo just not promising when come to updates and upgrades, so i have decide to invest my self in a new tytn II, how ever this have been a very wild adventure i am still retaining my patience with my treo 750 on ausie wm6 with att capakage.
But it does not look good for us. I think we're going to have to rely on developers to release drivers for us, not HTC
"HTC believes the overall value of its devices based on their combination of functionality and connectivity exceeds their ability to play or render high-resolution video. These devices do still provide a rich multimedia experience comparable to that of most smartphones and enable a variety of audio and video file formats," reads the official response, in part. Furthermore, the company has officially confirmed that Imageon drivers are not in use on the affected devices, but that it "plans to include video acceleration hardware in future video-centric devices that will enable high-resolution video support."

Then its final. no more HTC for me as this will be my last HTC device.
HTC you ruined my day. . . Well, I think that means they want a huge money donation to enable them. . .
Yeah no more HTC for me. Everyone who wanted the driver issues fix should agree that when they buy their next PPC make sure it's not an HTC
Fantastic. Perfect. Top notch. [/sarcasm]
So, in light of problems being fixed as they should be, the new issue is with what to replace the Kaiser?
Where oh where is the M8??
What they basically said is that "yea, we know there is no hardware acceleration, but if you really want it you are going to have to give us even more money by buying our next gen handset, bc we aren't fixing it in this one".
I used to rave about my 8125 to everyone. It's too bad HTC is taking the position they are. Never again will I buy a product from HTC or recommend them to anyone else. My next handset will be from i-mate.
yeah i-mate I never thought of them. I wonder if they have anything with touch screen and a full keyboard

i-mate just annoced last week that they are going back to HTC as the ODM of their phones. I-mate had tried (or was trying with) some other ODMs and it didn't pan out, so they are going back to HTC. If you don't want HTC, then don't buy any future i-mates either....
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/palm-i-mate-others-moving-manufacturing-contracts-back-to-htc/
I think we now need a sticky thread stating "Dont buy HTC products unless you've had your brain removed"
Certainly depending upon who commented to Engadget, we dont know how seriously to take this. But it does look bleak
We all know the existing drivers suck, the phone is buggy
and more to the point for a "premium" product, it doesnt fulfill some functions its predecessors could (its slower than my 3 yr old Wizard at scrolling, camera and opening/closing)
The standard, 'we already got your money response'...
Maybe it would be prudent for a written complaint to the carriers now, if they blow this off on this handset, what makes you think there won't be anything wrong with the next? Maybe they are making a promise on the next? Any takers?

That they do. they are actually releasing a kaiser killer very soon - the Ultimate 9502
It uses the exact same chipset as the Kaiser, but I'm guessing it has drivers for hardware acceleration too. It has the same specs as the kaiser (GPS, HSDPA, etc, etc) and features a VGA screen.

this whole statement is very ambiguous and does not state that support for imageon drivers aren't possible on current devices. i think its a pr statement and doesn't reflect what their software team is doing. its very opened ended and we could have support for acceleration but we couldn't as well. this statement doesn't tell us that.

So htc said that the devices with the latest qualcomm chipsets would have 3d acceleration, but they dont. Has anyone pointed this out before. Im not a tytn ii owner, but ive been following the news, since i wanted one for myself.
But, is this false advertising, saying it will have hardware acceleration and then not giving it, and saying it will never be given in an update.
I think the 9502 is where im going too, we just need a forum on XDA for it.

Also, let's say I purchase this phone in March. Would HTC get any of that profit?
I agree with BlueCop, and why is everyone getting so worked up about this? Where there's a demand, drivers will follow - their source is just unclear at the moment.
Windows Mobile 6.1 will be formally released next week Looks official!!
Tuesday Pocket Lint reported ( http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/13612/14636/windows-mobile-61-coming-april.phtml) that Microsoft is ready publish the latest version of Windows Mobile, time will be next week Tuesday. The Microsoft Windows Mobile team member in charge "Robbie Bach" had earlier mentioned this at the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas during a keynote speech. Windows Mobile 6.1 will be the last version 6.0 release of the first major update. Earlier this year the title leaked out (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/gallery/handsets/windows-mobile-61/) showing that 6.1 might use a smoother interface than the 6.0 interface, but it is unclear if that is a smart phone only or will be related to EM Pro devices also.
Windows Mobile 6.1 is supposed to increase on the basics of improvements much like the WM5 to WM6 transition.
Next year, Microsoft is expected to follow the script Mac OS X, introduced a with a new touch-screen user interface for the Windows Mobile 7. ( http://209.85.135.104/translate_c?h...a.cn/+&hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft:en-us )
Finally I need to point out that next Tuesday is April Fool's Day, but this is only a coincidence I hope.
See the above links for the Details from MS blogs.
LOOKS official... that is a UK website. is there any news of 6.1 being released in the US? what meger searching i did proved fruitless and i was just wondering if anyone has seen nething about it
should say "released to oems" not you and me
as per the way microsoft rolls out "updates" to windows mobile, device manufacturers are responsible for porting and making updates available per device. availability is usually sorted

yea 6.1 will be free because its a minor update only... WM7 will not be free but it doesnt release until later next year... Also, 6.1 is available in parts in some of the roms on this site... Its not worth it unless ur a fan of threaded SMS... it has nothing so important to upgrade...
I am just waiting for pointUI to come out with version 2.0

pointUI will definitly be great but as long as you end up in the "classic" applications behind I find the finger-controls more or less worthless. Therefore I really look forward to WM7. This could be a really revolutionary WM release.
I am new to this XDA and am awaiting my time for renewel to get the HD2 - this will be in January which means I will be about 2 or 3 months away from the release of WinMo 7. My question is about the HD2 and the possibility of it being able to upgrade to the new OS out next year.
Also when MS releases minor updates to the WinMo OS how do you get them to your phone.
I am probably asking simple questions but this seems a great place to ask and get a straight answer.

Hi Scott
Minor updates through windows update on the phone;
Re. Windows 7 nobody really knows if they will be able to upgrade to the official version. The hardware seems to be there so it depends on if HTC will release an updated Rom for it (assuming your provider has not put their own customised one on the phone in which case in which case you are reliant on them as the HTC Roms won't work.
On the other hand I am sure that after a little while you will be able to find a rom here that you can flash to if you want to and are brave enough to.
A rule of thumb I have for myself to evaluate the probability of an official ROM upgrade from HTC is this:
If a new OS version comes out within 6 months of a device release then you have a good chance to get an upgrade. So if WM7 is released in Q1 2010 then we may get it.
HTC got the habit of releasing their flagship devices right before the Christmas shopping season. This means that by this time in 2010 we're very likely to get an HD3, and HTC won't spoil the show by giving a second life to their by that time outdated cash cow. So WM7 in Q4 2010 equals no upgrade for sure.
Q3 2010 = not likely at all, but not impossible
Q2 2010 = not likely, but possible.
Something like that. Now if somebody can pick their HD2 and give a call to Steve Ballmer and ask when WM7 is going to be out we can continue the guessing game with more data than we have now.

I suspect the only reason the Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2 got 6.5 was that by the time it came for a US release, 6.5 was about to hit and they'd looking stupid with a "premier" device with 6.1 being outdaded in weeks. Of course then they had to give it to the rest of the world...
I put the chance of an official WM7 upgrade at about 1%.. and that's including a 1% chance of Microsoft forcing their hand. WM7 and the HD3 (or otherwisenamed spiritual successor) will both hit in about 12 months.

Actually that is one of the things the iphone has going for it - It has changed so little from when it was originally released that other than the size of the drive they are really very similar (most of the changes being available to existing phones through os updates).
Actually - come to think of it I don't know if that is really an advantage or just boring!
