When HTC first sold the P3600 they said they disabled the GPS chip set because it interfered with the GSM radio. From what I’ve been reading in some of the posts, some people are still experiencing a desensitized radio section after upgrading to the new GPS enabled ROM. Maybe this is why it is taking HTC so long to release the official ROM.
I’d like to hear from posters who have upgraded to the new ROM to see who has or has not seen their signal strength decline after the GPS ROM upgrade.
Mine is fine, still 3-4 bars. I use GSM850 out here in the wilds of Canada, though.
I had the same problems with signal after upgrading to dopod rom. However, I also updated radio to 1.38 and now GSM signal seems to be much better. Not excellent but reasonably good.
I've compared mine Running the Dopod Rom with radio 1.38 with a friends running the original non gps HTC rom and got the same signal,we were both using the Greek Cosmote network "Gsm 1800"and we had both selected the gsm band and disabled 3G .

I'm currently still running on the WWE original rom, as yet haven't seen any need to upgrade. I'd like the GPS functionality, but don't NEED it just yet...so I can wait.
However have just moved house and my network signal is now marginal at best, has anyone seen any improvements in GSM radio signal with any of the newer roms ?
cheers
anyone have any views?
Hi,
I have my D810 upgraded to the new HK D810 GPS Enabled Rom
(Rom 1.23.708.4, Radio 1.38.00.11)
and since then my 3G is not working quite right, I can get full bar of 3G, but I just couldn't make a call or recieve any call. And I'm on the Cingular network in the US.
Before I upgrade the rom, I can access the 3G with no problem. Now I can make a call only if I force my D810 to stay on the GSM network (2G).
Can somebody help? Or should I downgrade my rom back to the original dopod D810 rom? If yes, where can I find it?
Thanks.
Try using HTC tweaker to turn off HSDPA, that did the trick for me
Does it mean I can never use HSDPA on my D810 ?
ok, I've disable HSDPA, but it still can't make any call on 3G.....
man... now I hate the new rom... I rather don't have GPS but have my phone working...
have you have checked Start-->Settings-->Phone-->Band Tab--> and ensure that the Network Type is "Auto" or "WCDMA" and NOT GSM? and also ensure that the GSM/UMTS band is set correctly? (now, I'm really nervous about using that ROM!!!)
i have all the Band and Network setting right...
some people from the other forum say it is the network issue from Cingular because they are having the same issue, but on other phones.
it is quite weird, i can make a call under 3G in certain area within Chicago, but anywhere near my work office, it won't work...
And as usual, the cingular cs are useless, they don't even know what is going on
Well, I've got my Diamond for a week now. Its a good looking phone, but I hardly get HSDPA signal comparing to my previous Hermes. Then I upgraded to new rom 1.37.707.1.WWE with radio version 1.00.25.03 hoping to get HSDPA signal easily. No change
Meanwhile my huawei e220 modem get this signal so easy. Any clues?? thanks in advance
Do you get 3G/UMTS reception instead or do you stick to GSM/GPRS?
I'm stick with GSM/GPRS though my settings is set to auto for both network type and GSM/UMTS band

same problem here...
however, with my tytnII I dont get any hsdpa at all, and with my diamond its almost all the time at hsdpa, but only with one bar reception inside, or it switch back to GSM/GPRS.... weird ****, because hsdpa is enabled on my TytnII...
hopefully a new radio will come soon
I have also noticed that compared to my TYTN II the Diamond's HSDPA reception is absolutly crap. It came with a 1.35 ROM and older version of the radio so I also tried upgrading to 1.37.707.1 with radio 1.00.25.03 and no change.
I live right in the middle of Melbourne, Australia and the quality of HSDPA is crap crap crap.... Hopefully a new radio will be out soon as this is this is one of the things that really lets the Diamond down.

I must second that. I live in Sydney and 3G reception is totally crap.
There are also other threads here dealing with this problem:

I have tried every single ROM here, but sometimes when I try to answer a call the phone gets stuck.
The phone does it mostly on 3g mode, when i switch to GSM everything seems to work normally.
AT&t 3g is 850mhz here in Miami, I get 1.53mbps download speed but cant handle simple calls.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks

All I can say is I have tried Dutty's 6.5, Miri's 6.5 and energy rom 6.5 and they all do it. I have tried 4 different radios and its still a problem. I hope someone on here can help because a phone that you cant answer calls with is real frustrating
Duttys 6.1 Turbo X didn't do it, but had issues with the SMS feature.

What Radio are you using? I had a very similar problem before I flashed a new radio.
I've been running Dutty's 6.5 R8 ROM & Radio since I got my phone last week and its been flawless on 3G in my area.

I am using 1.14.25.24 with the dll cab and my phone qulaity is excellent. Before this radio I was getting crappy reception, losing signal in areas of good strength. I also have my phone settings to WCDMA, GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850). Good luck.

I tried the band setting you mentioned, no luck. My signal is excellent everywhere I go, the problem is just when I answer calls.
I'll keep on flashing roms until I find one that works properly
have you guys tried different SIM cards to see if that may be causing the problem? if the problem doesn't occur in GSM mode, it might be signal related (i know i'm reaching here... using the process of elimination method). your respective delimas are perplexing.... i know this doesn't help, but i've had my device since March 09, live in an area where 850 3G coverage is not that strong, flashed a buttload of ROMs (4 this week) and 2 different radios and i (knock on wood) haven't encountered similar issues. you might consider flashing the latest Telstra ROM from HTC. don't know if it was leaked earlier, but based on the website the ROM was released on 7/23/09.
Same problem with my bothers SIM (also AT&t) Im going to request a new SIm and see what happens.
Im gonna try the telstra ROM, hopefully its better looking than the one that came witht he phone. Thanks.
I don't have another sim to try but I have also tried different radios and the problem remains. I did notice for whatever reason, Miris manila 2.5 rom with the "data connection" set to off but the "3G" set to on doesn't have the issue and sill works on 3G. I always thought "data connection" and "3G" had to both be on but it works. I tried the same method in the energy 6.5 rom but it doesn't let me configure the connection that way
Flashed Duttys 6.5 R9
Data Connection is OFF
3g Connection is ON
1.14.25.24 Radio
Phone Network Settings: Type AUTO GSM/UMTS Band: 1900 + 850
I'm testing it now, it seems to be working properly
The problem is still there, don't know what to do anymore
all of the sudden mine doesnt do it anymore, I have been using Dutty's R9 rom and Miri's 6.5/2.5 rom and every call can be answered fine. I happened to catch one of the "phone review" guys on youtube say that he has been having "call on the 3G network" issues but edge was working fine. He is in San Fran ( 2.5 Hours from me) so maybe it was/is a network issue???
Flashed Duttys 6.5 R9
Hard Reset
Installed Rilphone.dll
Turned phone off
Enter bootloader
Flashed 1.14.25.24 Radio
Soft Reset
Data Connection is OFF
3g Connection is ON
Phone Network Settings: Type WCDMA - GSM/UMTS Band: 1900 + 850
it has been working flawlessly for 2 days now.
I believe that the radio was flashed incorrectly the first time, it looked like it was successfully installed.
Closing thread as solution and rom flashed
I'm interested to hear how you folks are finding your phone's signal strength and reliability, what radio version do you have and are there any issues with it?
I have Baseband 20.208.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M and I sometimes lose the O2 signal in my home.
Edit: I should have posted this in Q & A ... doh!
I'm running baseband version 20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16_M and I can get -83 dBm at best on my home's wi-fi network.
I installed this version last week after having problems connecting to any wi-fi signal with 20.2803.30.085AU_3805.04.03.12_M
Until now I haven't had any problems this week and it's running fine.
Thanks for your reply. How was your gsm signal before and after the recent radio flash, have you noticed any difference?
In the current establishment I'm in, my best signal is -89dBm on a UMTS (3G network). Unfortunately I don't remember my signal strength on a mobile network before I flashed my new radio. I can recall however that it was quite slow...
What Mod/Android version are you running? It's important to have a radio that matches the proper rom in order for it to work properly.
I have a new IS without root etc, the unit received an OTA update the day I got it. The current software No is 2.30.405.1. My only gripe is the phone signal here, but having said that, it doesn't seem as troublesome today. Also my battery life (today at least) appears to be improving with time and use.
That's good to hear that your signal is getting better! Coverage in your area may be a factor as well.
This XDA thread has a list of IS radios matched to certain RUUs. Based on the versions you mentioned previously, your radio matches your RUU version. I was kind of banking on the fact that they didn't match up, in which case we could of probably solved the problem.
What kind of signal strength do you usually get?
Keep us posted if your signal improves or not and we'll see what we can do if need be!
Well I'm sad to say that I've just returned my 3rd HTC IS, all 3 had signal issues for me on the O2 network. I loved the build quality, style and the Sense interface .... what to do now?
