Hai! - Off-topic

Hello i am new to this forum and just wanted to say hi to all of you.
I am little confused as i recently brought new O2 XDA ATOM and the every thing is new to me.
Hoping i will find all my answers here.
There are lot of WM6 in here, can any one suggest me the best and working one for my O2 Xda Atom. Is upgrading safe or just changing the theme is better, as my mobile is new and i don't wanted to loose it.

For your atom.. just changing theme is better cuz there isnt WM6 for atom yet...

Two very important things you need to know about changing the OS (ROM):
1) It will void all warranty for the device! Unless you are using an official update released by the carrier.
2) If you do not do it correctly or the process is interrupted in the middle for any reason your device becomes a brick!
Now that I put the fear of ROMs in to you, welcome to the forum!

Upgrading to WM5.0 - Help Required

Hi All!
I am interested in upgrading my O2 XDA IIs (which I assume is a Blue Angel) to Windows Mobile v5.0. However, I am new to the ROM Upgrade scene, and therefore have a few questions!
1) Will my phone still work after I have upgraded? I use O2 on a post-pay GPRS contract.
2) Are there any downsides to having to upgrade?
If someone could either post back here or contact me through any of my listed methods to assist me in upgrading the phone?
Many Thanks!

Try reading Wiki..
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home
This will give you all the information you need to make the decision.. Remember, it needs to be your decision and not what anyone else recommends.. Personally, I still use the WM2003SE as it's better suited for my business needs and I need the [relative] stability that 2003 gives..
You also need to consider your skill level in playing with your device.. not only about "taking backdoor routes" to updating your BA but to also tweeking it using a Registry Editor..
There's nothing worse then seeing a post stating "HELP - I'VE BORKED MY BA!" as they were not too sure what they were doing..
Remember, reading is the best form of knowledge!
Hope this helps..?
Cheers.
I looked through the wiki earlier (before my post) - no details on whether it would still work. I took the plunge anyway and I am glad I did It worked fine.

New tilt owner, and new site user

Hey fellas, im glad i found this site, looks like alot of good info for a beginner. This will be my first phone that i will be attempting to tweak, but i had a few basic questions that warranted some advice:
if this was your first high end phone (only had a treo 650/680 prior) would you try and load a different rom and all the fixings, or just deal with a hard reset on the AT&T rom and try and fix what you could with cab files.
does a new cooked rom void any warrenty? or could it be reversed if i chose to distribute this phone to one of my employees when i upgraded in the future.
what was the first thing yall did to your tilt when you got it to instantly make it a better device?
thanks in advance guys.

I will make a couple of suggestions. Read A LOT before asking questons and make use of the search funtion. The other is if your new to Windows Mobile, many users that have been drinking the Palm koolaid have a hard time migrating to WM. Be patient, they are two very different OS's.
To flash a non at&t rom will require unlocking, that alone will void a warranty.
i thought i read somewhere else that AT&T were condoning the unlocking of these phones, since they sold the unlocked versions at a different price, but that could have been hear/see.
Well my first PDA was a
Compaq Aero 2150
I then went onto the smart phone market (years later lol) with
Siemens SX66 (HTC Blue Angel)
iPaq 6515a
iPaq 6945
and now
HTC Kaiser / AT&T Tilt
Flashing a NON AT&T ROM does not require unlocking the phone. You can flash whatever ROM you want (provided it's for the Kaiser). I'd make sure that you install Olipro SPL though. Prevents bricking the phone.
well if i want to flash to a different ROM, like the HTC one, is there a way i can revert back to the original at&t ROM if i had to send it back for any reason? i just dont want to have to eat the cost of this thing, it'd be my company doing the eating. which my budget wouldnt enjoy.
oh wait i think i read what you said wrong, what i have on it now IS a AT&T ROM, so it WOULD have to be unlocked first...right?
by the way i absolutely hate this theme, i like the big clock on the HTC ROM. i finally getting used to WM6 though. just hate the look of it.

Downgrading Advice

Hi All,
My wife got my an XDA 11i it has an upgrade to wm 6.1, it works fine however the wifi doesnt work and it is a little slow, basically i would like to get back the original os version windows 2003 so my questions are as follows.
1. can i downgrade to the original oS
2. Where can i get the rom from
3. Or is there a standalone wireless driver.
Thanks in advance
Mark
Then Mark you have something a lot of people (not me) would give their eye teeth for a XDA IIi with more than 2003SE are you absolutely positive that you have????
But I would have thought that a download of the last "Real" ROM from O2's Irish site (loads of links around here if you search) would have sorted it back to 2003SE
Its definitely 6.1 but without wireless its useless to me as i need to use it on the move wirelessly, what are the irish url's
I needs these roms asap and you could spend weeks on this site serching the forum and ive just started a business and i require the xda on the go.
i just want a xda11i original rom so i can make sure the wireless isnt a hardware issue them i may upgrade again once i know it works.
Thanks Mark
Given all the information above i would say this is actually an XDA II, aka Himalaya, that would account for both the WM6.1 and the absence of WiFi. easy way to check is go to
Start - Settings - Device Information and select the Identity tab, report back which Model it is. i am not a gambling person but even money says it is PH10B, this makes it a Himalaya.
As for the advice re ROMs and Ireland site, search www.O2.ie for ROMs for both Himalaya and Alpine, XDA II and IIi respectively. Make sure you get the right ROM as you run the risk of wrecking it completely.
Hi Deedee,
It looks like it is an XDA 11, so it looks like there aint no wireless.
So it is now the xda 2003 rom i need.
Thanks
It's Xmas, I am in a good mood so here's the link, just pick the right ROM.
O2 ireland XDA ROM
Took two clicks and one search, go to O2.ie, search for "XDA ROM" and pick the fourth option.
Personally i'd stay with WM6.1, the Himalaya I have for mucking about with is WM6, never felt the need to return to WM2003. Is there a technical reason for downgrading? You are going to fond so much that won't work it's probably not worth the effort, apart from the experience. Also you may not get the Extended ROM back even following the downgrade.

New to all this modding, need some help

Hello everyone! I'm new around here. I was looking to update the rom on my HTC Diamond Touch and I found this great website. First I just want to say I have all the respect in the world for you guys because this is pretty high science. All this modding and tweaking takes skill from what I see.
Anyways, I read a lot of the stickies that say read this first before posting quesitons and all that.
I am finding that these links have been most helpful for me so far.

I just have a few concerns that these were mostly written a year ago; and on the ROM discussion board, new stuff is coming out everyday it looks like.
I need some help making sure my bases are covered when I start to update my HTC Diamond Touch. Such as having all my references ready in case something may go wrong or having the right bootloader or whatever.
1.) I want to update my ROM because it is pretty old (stock 10/27/08 edition) and it is a little sluggish at times. Can someone give me some advice on a solid ROM? I do not need "everything", like "omg iPhone pwnage ROM" but just a solid, works well, looks good, few bugs or crashes ROM ... good battery life is a plus too!
2.) I don't know the version of my phone. Like "CDMA" etc? This is my phone company.
Cellcom -> HTC Diamond Touch
http://www.cellcom.com/personal/phones/compare_phones/phone_3c128e2806c4/
3.) Similar to #1, what "radio" should I use, etc? Once again I am very new to all this and the tech stuff about modding I do not have locked in yet.
I really just need some guidance because I do not want to brick my new phone and have a paperweight...
Thanks everyone and once again, all the respect to you guys! Knowledge is power and you all take the cake with this stuff.
All advice is helpful! And if you want to flame me for being a "noob," I got the fire hose ready.
EDIT - UPDATE -
I think I want to use this ROM -
Default |6.5|DIAM||ROM||WWE|| ** EnergyROM Series "Magic" 23001 ** || Build 2009630

Standard Edition one?
Which Radio?

4.) How do I know if I am security unlocked? (SIM-unlocked too? I have service from Cellcom (my provider) but what does that entail for the other stuff?)
Thanks again~
UPDATE-
I security unlocked, installed Juicy 8 ROM and a Telus radio ... so far so good!
How do I download the rom?
Sorry I am new.

dont hate the game hate the noobs

hi there people, dont hate me and apologies if this question either seems ignorant or whether its been answered before.
so here goes...
ive got a branded vodafone tp2, its sim unlocked so im using a Tmob UK sim inside and loving every minute, awesome fone.
now i can see there's a buzz about getting wm6.5 official ROM onto my device so im wondering a few things.
I went to the HTC web site and tried to download the official ROM but it mentioned it wasnt suitable for my device, ill put that down to it being branded/raped by Voda..?
what im wondering also is, if i could get the official unbranded wm6.5 ROM onto my unit (my mate has just upgraded his from HTC as it was unbranded at POS so will try n get him to upload onto my unit)would it work?
ill have to admit ive been a fan sice getting my first HTC fone (the Universal) years ago but have now realised that if u want a decent experience to next time go unbranded.
do you guys think ill have to wait for Vodas bastard son of a thousand maniacs ROM (Voda wm6.5) to be up on their site before i can have winmo 6.5 on my device and has anyone seen if its that God horrible red n white which i just cant stand.
im using manila 2.1 atm yto cover it up and have been pleased how it got rid of the Voda rubbish.
again apologies if ive asked some thing answered and thanks in advance for any help.
i am a toatl noob to "flashing" etc so any advice would be awesome.
id also like to give shouts out to all developers for keeping us all up to date and connected.
you guys are the unsung heros of win mo so please keep up the good work as im sure we all would agree, its greatly appreciated
with thanks graph1uk
Mate...you should do some reading at those sticky threads...
No one will answer those questions.
if u cant wait ur official 6.5 rom come out. Just do the hardspl and flash using 6.5 europe official rom. do more reading please. thanks.
I have a Vodafone TP2 too, and don't have any vodafone software on it anymore. All you need to do is flash with HSPL, then you can install any ROM you like from this forum, but seriously read the stickies. This one specifically:

Like others are saying, you just need to HSPL your phone and flash the hell outta it After the flash, you will have your new 6.5 ROM, without voda crap Good luck!
Ok.. If you are new to the flashing world... you must first understand a few things. A bit of reading around would definitely help you understand better.
- First you would have to Hard SPL your device. You can find our how to do that from this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131. At the end of the 1st post you would have to download this file: Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3_185HSPL.zip
Once you do that, you are all set for the world of fantasy... Screw the official release of WM 6.5 release.. you have better than official release here at XDA. You can try the latest WM 6.5 and 6.5.1 ROMs cooked with Mannila Sense 2.1 and 2.5
So, Flash away dude... and Good luck.
The voda update is here : http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/firmwaredevice.php?ModelID=384&e=0
As stated before, please use the stickies and the wiki for reference before starting a new thread.
All the answers are there somewhere .
Thanks
Dave
