Just bought a "MDA" PDA2K.... WM5 Upgrade Questions - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hello,
I have just purchased a second-hand PDA2K. I know for a fact that it was upgraded to WM5 and then downgraded to WM2003SE. Currently it is running WM2003SE.
I have read the upgrade to WM5 guide several times. I understand that you need to have the original shipped code. I have no idea what this is as I bought it second-hand.
I want to upgrade to WM5. What is the safest course of action?
Also, I downloaded "Helmi_BA_WM2k5_AKU3.5_v1.4.CF2.R2.rar". I opened the EXE file contained within this archive, and it looks to be an automatic flashing application. Am I right? Do I just click upgrade or do I need to do something else?
Thanks for any help in advance

Where did you read "need to have the original shipped code"?

Upgrading Cingular SX66...

I've bought locked version of cingular SX66 some how managed to unlock the set, but I'm affraid of trying upgrade my SX66, will it be safe to upgrade after unlock? or it'll lock the set again... I've downloaded the file from siemens' site but never tried?
I have a Cingular SX66. I unlocked the phone prior to upgrading to Win 2k5. Once you upgrade, you would need to unlock your phone again with the win 2k5 unlock took found in the Wiki.
As for upgrading, I have upgraded following the Wiki to the Himalaya ROM without any problems. There are some settings you will need to change when flashing your files.
XGULA01 is the carrier code I think. You need to double check that in the forums as well. The ROM is very stable but may give you delays like when you press the Start key. Other then that, there has been no problems after upgrading.
I too have a Cingular (AT&T version). I have not unlocked my phone (not sure it ever was, but I currently don't care) and have tried both the Himalaya and Wizard versions.
I found the Wizard version to be more stable and with a few less installation headaches. You do need to create a EXTROM directory on a SD card before you upgrade, but the results are worth it.
Siemens SX66 locked??
Cingular sells these unlocked. I bought mine at a Cingular Corporate store not a reseller and it was not locked. The one my roomate bought at a different Corp store was also unlocked. We have both upgraded to the last ROM Siemens had before they removed this device from their site without issue....
I didn't want to try the Wizard version due to its lack of resolutions with MS voice command.
Can you list your updates and your programs that you got to work?

I ran with the Wizard ROM for a while, but went to the Himalaya and believe it is much better. I posted a couple of my reasons in the BA Wizard ROM thread. One of them was how smooth Voice Command ran with the Himalaya ROM. There seemed to be a delay with everything using the Wizard ROM. There's a new Wizard ROM out there that I hope Mamaich can release for us to test. Maybe it will be better.
Thank u so much guys.. I'm noob and want to ask a stupid question: The WM2003 upgrade that siemens offer on their web site is either Himalaya OR Wizard? and what r the main differences between these two? do u guys recommend to upgrade to WM2005? any link for??

T-Mobile MDA Software Version (2.26.10.2)

I have an unlocked Cingluar/Siemens BA that I have been using with Tmobile. I am not confident enough to update the ROM on my own through the info on this and other sites.
On Tmobile's website, if I choose the MDA as my phone I can download their latest ROM version of Windows Mobile 2003 (2.26.10.2). I currently have ROM version 1.32.10 WWE, so I am assuming this is an upgrade for me. Will this work if I try to do it on my SX66 or simply destroy it? I mean they are both running Windows Mobile right?? Again, Im not to keen on this stuff. Any info will help, thanks!
If you use standard, operator-provided upgrades, exectuable checks your hardware and will refuse to install on not supported device. But upgrade will be refused even in situation, when you have Qtek 9090 and try to upgrade with t-mobile MDAIII ROM even though those are identical devices and ROMs are 100% compatible.
SO: if you try to use not modified, original ROM, there is no big risk of failure, but also there is little chance of upgrading, until you upgrade exactly the same device, as was sold by the operator.
I propose you to read Wiki - you will find a lot of information and you will be able to rethink about upgrading to WM5.
One more thing... MDA's are Wizards, and SX66 are BlueAngels...
Totally different phones. The ROM will most likely break your phone. Check for the latest WM5 ROM in this forum for upgrade.
i realize the MDA is a wizard, but I figured since they are running the same software it might work. With that being said I guess you have answered my question. I guess I'll take my time and try to follow the info on this site and WIKI one more time. Thanks for the info.
T-Mobile MDA III is a BlueAngel.

Question about downgrade/upgrade

I upgrad my Qtek 9090 to WM 2005 a few days ago and now I want to revert it to WM 2003 but I don't have any backup. And I can't find any 2k3 rom in Xda ftp to download.....
In Qtek site I can find the page with has upgrades but I'm unable to download anything, I'm enter my IMEI and receive a message that says " Not a valid IMEI# (only Brightpoint authorized original products are supported by this site. Contact your place of purchase for ongoing support of your device)".
I think that is cos they don't store any IMEI if cell is sold outside Europe/Asia...
Well, searching in the net, I've found 2 2k3 ROMs, from iMate's ftp. One is i-mate_PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe and the other is PDA2k_PTB_12205_179_10600_SHIP.exe. I think the second ROM is in Brazillian Portuguese....
The question is: can I upload this ROM to my Qtek 9090, in order to revert it to WM 2003 ????
If the answer is no, someone can show me a link to download the correct ROM ?? For me, doesn't matter if this ROM is in english or Brazillian portuguese....
Thanks!
If you know how to install ROM you can install any of those (be aware of side efects and how to bypass device check; remeber you have to through downgrade procedure with ExtROM reformatting, if you deleted ExtROM while upgrading to WM5).
If you like any specific rom from the Wiki, I still have backup and can upload it somewhere for you.
If you want to downgrade, maybe it's possible just to fix your problems? WM5 is hudge step forward compared to 2003.

I know, but I want to test things like battery performance, wifi connection (I have access to 2 free hotspots but can't connect....)....
And when I upgrade to WM5, I don't remove ExtROM. After the upgrade, I shrink ExtROM to 2Mb. Then I whant to downgrade to test these things and, after my tests, make the upgrade again, exactly as stated in wiki....
And I only want any Qtek 9090 ROM, preferably umbranded, in english or portuguese, doesn't matter...
Oh, yes! I've searching, but no luck, for any cab that makes my hardware keyboard works right. My 9090 is in english (with WM 5) but my keyboard is portuguese one... Then, as you can see, it doesn't works right... And changes the registry entry (as stated in other topic), from 0h 20409 to 0h 20416 (the country code for Brazil) doesn't work. After softreset the code returns to original....
Thanks for your help!
AFAIK, WM03 do have better battery life n wifi connection (n don't forget about bluetooth).
Cannot Downgrade To WM 2003
I've installed WM6.1 but need to downgrade to unlock my extrom. However, my manufacturer firmware software no longer works. Any ideas?

Strange. Are you trying to update you're 750 or 750V? Because this is the unbranded update voor the Treo 750.
See also this site: http://www.pocketinfo.nl/nieuws/nie...om-update-beschikbaar-voor-palm-treo-750.html

Won't work on my unlocked Cingular 750 either.

Have you read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340226 ?
You problably have to first downgrade you're treo to wm5 before upgrading to the official wm6. I haven't test this rom upgrade because i already have upgraded it with the official wm6 vodafone upgrade for my treo 750V.

I just downgraded mine. I'm going to wait until I get to work and retry the ROW on a real laptop instead of my VM here at home.
Didn't work.
I just tried it with my AT&T Treo 750 (WM5 14959.2.3.2) and I got the "Unsupported Device Update".

Verry, verry strange. It's the official upgrade comfirmed by one of the mod's by pocketinfo and ROW stands for Rest of World.
Treo 750 WM6 upgrade
Thanks for the links. I tried the Italian upgrade and worked well.
Only problem seems to be Voice Command. Apparently it is not part of this ROM upgrade. Any idea why? Any possibility to install it afterward? Is not supported at all by the ROW upgrade?
Any advise is greatly appreciated

Problem to upgrade
I enter my serial number but the firewall of my bank rejected the download.
Unfortunately servers from palm registered my device and re-download seem to be impossible...
Does the direct link avoid this problem?
if not how to upgrade mine (my version is : TREO750-1.16-RWF)
Does the upgrade work on Vista ???
regards
It definetly works on Vista! Infact when I tried to upgrade my 750 1.15VFE on XP it gave me a script error and wouldn't run at all. I tried it on my laptop that was running Vista and bango it start the upgrade process.
I tried the latest ROW English update and got "Unsupported Device Update" also.
I followed the instructions here "HOW TO UPGRADE TO WM6"
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Cheetah_WM6
Phone is running WM6 with no issues. My device still says i am running V 1.16-VFE as others have already mentioned,

The 1.16 change to 2.23 only takes place at the end of the upgrade cycle. After the first reboot, the upgrader explicitly states to press continue *only after* having recalibrated and setup activesync (guest mode is enough). That's when the last part of the upgrade kicks in.
It may be that in Vista this last part of the upgrade does nto take place.
i wonder if those of us using the cheeimg method end missing some features that do not get installed?!?!?

Palm support has explained the at&t delay by saying 7 ways upside and down, that when the upgrade is applied that it absolutely cannot be rolled back. Since those doing the cheeimg method have been successful at doing that and a radio upgrade for hermes radio i think i heard or something cannot be rolled back, maybe thats what they mean. If you do the full install it does one of these updates that locks it. But I'm just guesing
I am using the Palm Treo750 Cingular and got "Unsupported Device Update" message when I tried to upgrade the latest ROW English.
How can I do to upgrade? Thanks

I'm assuming you'd have to do the bootloader method described here. Otherwise you have to wait for the at&t rom to be released.

To upgrade you can use the SD-card method described in this forum.
Or try this one:
- start the updater, stop at the first screen
- look at your temp directory, there is a new folder created
- edit the file "payloads.xml", in the section "carrier codes" replace the 3 letters with the letters you see on your treos system info
- go on with the updater (start update)
good luck

This method also works, maybe you also have to change the version range listed.
good luck
ok that last tip worked a treat! i love this forum!
thanks to all who support it and give information!
did the instructions above andf all good, although i also change the version range low to '115' just incase...

How to dump my original ROM?

Hi,
I want to dump my WM5 rom (I think its from O2). But I'm not sure about that because I've got a G4-type device.
If I install WM6.5 on my wizard, can I just undo it by flashing with mine dumped ROM?
I want to know before I upgrade to WM6.5.
cu Floh
I think I found the answer myself.
As far as I understand is dumping ROM not necessary since I found O2-WM5-ROM here (I downloaded this and keep it for case if I need to downgrade my device).
