Spv M700 & Gps - P3600 Software Upgrading

HI,
does the m700 have an internal gps chipset?
i have unlocked the sim & cid, upgraded to mUn 2.01.TE rom with 1.41.00.11 radio.
but in my connections tab there is only a 'external gps' icon. this says to me there is no internal chipset on this device?
so the only way to use gps is by either an external receiver or internet. not through the m700 itself.
can anyone please confirm this for me as i have been flashing my pda all weekend trying to get this function to work.
boy do i need help

The M700 definetly has a built in gps receiver, Com9. Try installing a program like GPSmonitor then you can see the receiver working or alternatively install some nav software and set gps to com 9 or built-in . Should work - did for me.

HI,
thankyou for your reply and confirming this.
i actually asked the same question on the wm6 sub forum on another thread so do not want to waste anyones time

XDA2i & Tom Tom 5 problem....a Newbie seeks help!

Howdy all!
Just found the forum via a Google search and was wondering if anyone can help - MANY apologies if this problem has been posted elsewhere (im a newbie here so please be gentle!), but ive just had a look but couldnt find anything......so here goes...
I've just got myself a XDA 2i today and having active sync'ed Tom Tom 5.1 to it i've come across a "program may not run correctly as its set up for older software" message. After running TT anyway it does indeed start, but cant seem to connect my wireless GPS receiver to it, and im just worried (having read elsewhere here) it could well freeze up in use if i perserve with it. Anyone have any advice?? Please??
I have a XDA 2 and my Tom Tom 5 runs perfect on it.........but am now left considering selling this new 2i on eBay (instead of the other one i'd intended) as i just want something that works. Can anyone help? Im just looking for some simple advice..........id REALLY appreciate it
Thanks in anticipation ............
Ant
Ps, I guess my main issue is just advice whether i should perservere with the XDA 2i (i just want Tom Tom to work!) - or sell and just stick with the XDA 2 that 'seems' to be less problematic. Im soooo desperate.........help!
Upgrade to 5.21
I'm not familiar with the Alpine but one thing that you should be doing for sure is to install the upgrade to 5.21.
Hope this helps!
Connect Tom tom Wireless Bluetooth GPS
Hello
I had TomTom installed in my Qtek 2020, and it worked.
I had a problem at first. I wasn´t able to connect with my wireless Bluetooth Gps, but then i set up the connection by setting it as "other NMEA cable GPS", strange, but it worked. I never could connect it as a "Generic Bluetooth Gps". I have a Pretec Gps Mini
I hope it works
Have you made sure "Receive all incoming beams" is NOT ticked in the settings - connections - Beam - menu? that is the normal culprit that we all forget!!!
Thanks SO much for the help guys....the 'incoming beams' thing did the trick......and it now recognizes TT5. THANKYOU!! Here's hoping it doesnt freeze up on me....! :?
With regards to the updated XDA2i not being compatiable with 'the older software im trying to run' would anyone recommend getting rid of it and sticking with the XDA2? The 2i is certainly the business with wi-fi, etc....but having uploaded a Commodore 64 emulator from Clickgamer (and having the same message pop up) i just dont know if im going to run into any other issues with this newer version of Windows its running. Any help would be really appreciated....thanks again
I would not worry about that pop up, it does it with loads of programmes, my 2i is very stable with tt5.2, even when using the phone via a BT headset and I have other programmes running in the background - the choice is SD card is more critical - Transcend 80x's seem to be the most stable.
Excellent...thanks for the advice!
Btw, just noticed the 'radio' thing in your signature......is it part of a download for the xda? Any other websites you'd recommend? My 2i is brand new out of the box and needing some cool gadgets put onto it! 8)
Thanks (again!) for all the help
Theres some good stuff on this site pdagold
It is freeware as well.
As for the Radio, I, along with many others have upgraded to Pugs rom, this seems to be the most stable one around, you can get it from the FTP part of this site, then just follow the instructions to reflash your rom.
a MASSIVE thanks for this.........sorry to be such a newbie, the advice here has been fantastic. Thanks alot!! :!:
i recommend pugz rom
i was using the o2 rom with tomtom 5.1 and and i kept loosing connection also had bluetooth issues, once installing the cooked rom, i've not experienced any problems
damned tt5.21
the problem is that I'm trying, at least, to let the O2 2i working with tomtom5.21 and fortuna clip-on gps receiver...
I read a lot of posts, so my beam settings are ok...
seems that tt5.21 don't want to communicate with the gps.
In fact the gps fixes (red light), but tt5.21 don't want to see it. It continue to say "no gps receiver", "signal lost from..." or, in the configuration, "Gps signal not good (or something else, I'm translating from italian)", and the small circle on the left up corner rolls, rolls, rolls...
so has any ideas? I'm not sleeping since 4 dayz....
tnx for all
pugz rom?
and where can I dl it? can so plz post me a link? tnx
*ant if you have problems with tomtom locking up swap sd card for a mmc card I was having problems with mine have had no lock ups since I changed to mmc

Orange SPV M700 - It has GPS?

Hi everyone
I am new here and this is my first post, so please go easy on me.
I wanted to start by congratulating all the contributors on this forum on a great job done.
I’ve just ordered an SPV M700 on Orange and have a couple of questions
1- I need to unlock the phone to be able to use an O2 Sim card in it.
2- I want to be able to use The GPS in the phone.
To use the O2 SIM do I just need to do a SIM unlock, or do I have to do a CID unlock to? Err what is CID in the first place
My understanding is that the Orange ROM has the GPS enabled, am I correct? If so, all I have to do is install software like Tomtom Navigator and all should work, right?
As you can see, I am not that technical and do not want to mess the phone up by venturing into un-chartered territories.
Thank you for any help
1, yes you just need a SIM unlock. You will find the necessary tools on this forum to do this.
2, it seems that the current batch of Orange phones are shipping with the gps enabled rom, so yes just install tomtom.
I think CID stands for country ID (or something like that), you only need to unlock this if you intend to install firmware from another country e.g. the gps enabled Depod firmware. Providing your orange supplied phone has their most recent firmware you won't have to worry about this.
I've just found out what orange are doing. ONLY their Business phones have it enabled.
So if you order the phone on a personal account you don't get the GPS enabled.
However if you order it on a business account you can have it.
The third option is to learn French and flash the publicly available french rom to it.
(That's assuming you want it to be supported by orange themselves)
Else use one of the cooked roms and you're sorted.
EDIT: I've just got off the phone to Orange. The third option above would still be covered by insurance. Though if anything goes wrong it would have to be listed as a technical fault and go back to their free post address.
no, you are wrong, i am personal account, the rom is gps enabled
You flashed it to enable it. The GPS ROM is there but with one of the earlier firmware versions which doesn't enable it. (I got my information directly from Orange. If you were lucky enough to get a business phone sent out to you then I'm extremely jealous (and ask you again to upload your firmware ) but after about 40 mins of bouncing me around centers and giving me lame excuses or saying they were the wrong department I finally got a straight answer out of 2 seperate departments saying this was indeed the case)
If you look on the Orange site:
Business:
http://www.business.orange.co.uk/se...s&c=OUKDevice&cid=1044134008063&extarg1=Phone
It can deliver you directly to your meetings, thanks to it's built-in GPS with Sat Nav from Orange.
Personal:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/orange_spv_m700/features
No mention of any GPS is listed.
I know the GPS is there and functions as I've used a cooked ROM to enable it.
Plus as has been pointed out you can freely get the Orange France version of the firmware which has GPS enabled.
no no no, i didn't flash it before enable it, i can use the gps with tomtom 6 when i first got the phone, i need to flash it because i need to make it sim unlock..( i got it on 28/02/07, from the orange shop)
and even the manual with my spv m700, it also mention about the gps.

This is good News
I will get mine tomorrow - hopefully
Alas, I need to use an O2 Sim card though, so I must go down the SIM unlock route. I am in a dilemma between
1- Using the Prof's unlocking solution here
or
2- Paying up the $38 for peace of mind here here

SPV M700
Just to let you all know:
I just spoke to Orange about upgrading my M600 to M700. Vry nice lady ( after three atempts) has confirmed that M700 has GPS receiver built in. It would not show anywhere on Comms but it is selectable once you install SatNav software and it is on COM9.
So I think that anewers the original question.
Happ Navigating
Got my SPV M700 from Orange yesterday.
I went into the favorit > Sat Nav & downloaded Orange's Sat Nav program (It woked a treat - No ROM flashing or anything ) It actually guided me back home.
So yes, Orange UK ROM is 100% GPS enabled.
the-oneil not all are coming with GPS enabled. I know as I've seen 2 so far which came without the GPS working. Must depend on the batch they send out.
i think that depends on which rom version, that one with the following version must have GPS..
Operator version : 19.123.1.615
ROM version: 1.23.61.5
Rom date : 01/25/07
Radio version : 1.30.00.01
Protocol version: 32.63.7020.08H
I didn`t have to enable GPS on my M700. I installed a sat nav system ( Navigon MN6) and it connected by itself. I have a black M700 but on a personal account. The black ones were originally only reserved for new business accounts. Don`t know if that is significant.
I have now just installed Route 66 Navigate 7 in place of Navigon but it can`t seem to connect to the GPS receiver. Anyone help with that? I can only find one way to access the GPS seetings, in Systems/connections/GPRS Settings, and the only option is to change from PAP Authentication to CHAP Authentication. I don`t know what the difference between them is ( I`m not a techie!!) but it makes no difference anyway.
Any advice would be appreciated
Don't confuse GPS (Global Positioning by Satellite) with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). If you mess with the GPRS settings, you may stop your phone from being able to use mobile data.
The M700 doesn't come with the GPS control panel visible, and generally speaking you don't need it to. Windows Mobile 5 comes with a software patch which distributes a GPS signal to any application requiring it, but some GPS applications can't work with this. I presume Route 66 may be one of them (as is TomTom).
Go to your Route 66 settings, and in the GPS setting options, set COM port to COM9 and Baud rate to 57600, which are the default hardware settings for the M700.
Now go to somewhere with a clear view of the sky for about 10 minutes, to allow the program to download all the necessary satellite information.
the-oneil,
I did the same as you with my brothers Trinity but I have a small problem with the internet settings.
I downloaded a cab file from a forum request on this site but it did not work for me and so I then copied the settings from a site called 'filesaveas' and itwork for me except in one way.
When I try to access my brothers Hotmail account via Pocket MSN I could not do it, however when I accessed Hotmail via Internet Explorer it was ok.
So I have some kind of error in the settings somewhere that still needs to be resolved. I contacted O2 for the settings but they would not give them to me because it is not an O2 handset. The screen asks me repeatedly for 'Incoming Email Password', which is exactly the same one as when I use Internet Explorer to acces Hotmail.
So let me know if you get the above working on yours and perhaps I could copy your settings.
Cheers!
And good luck!
Thanks NeilM,
Trouble is, I`ve tried and tried to find somewhere in the Route 66 menu where I can change GPS settings, but no luck. I`ve been checking through the files using File Explorer but can`t find anything anywhere that allows me to do that. Can you suggest somewhere I might find it or would it be pretty obvious, like going into the main menu in Route 66 when it`s running, and looking for a GPS settings tab. There isn`t one. It has a tab called GPS information but that just gives GPS status info, no way of changing any settings. Guess I`m stuffed!!
According to the Route66 help, it only supports Bluetooth GPS, not inbuilt receivers.
In fact their compatibility list is so old, I wonder it works on any current device

Thats great, thanks for letting me know, I can stop messing around with it now and go for something else or get a bluetooth receiver. The built in receiver isn`t that great anyway. I read somewhere that it was an 8 channel receiver. I have tried Navigon MN6 already with my M700 and I noticed that it`s positioning leaves a lot to be desired. I wondered if it might be something to do with the receiver as I didn`t expect it to be a SirfstarIII. So I might at some point just get myself a decent quality bluetooth SirfstarIII. Any recomendations?
Cheers for now

Depending on the version of/locked files (Search forum) TOMTOM, you might need to configure it each time.
In 6.02 and below you need to select the NEMA (or whatever its called).
In 6.03 they have a selection of inbuilt GPS device. I Found 6.03 much less hassle to be honest.
how do i get 6.03 please
how do i get 6.03 please

Are you outside with clear view to the sky? Wait 15 Minutes there! It WILL work.
You're on the right track with GPS on COM9 if you are not using version 6.03. If you get as far as "No valid GPS signal" message then that means your GPS receiver is tracking satellites ok and you're just not getting a GPS fix. I had the exact same problem as you.
1) Just restart your d810 (stylus into the small hole on the underside of your dopod )
2) Start your TomTom and use the same setup as you did before with NMEA.
3) Select GPS on COM9
4) When you get the "No valid GPS signal" message stand outside where there is lots of open sky (if you're in the city... tough luck it would be really hard to get a GPS fix there).
5) Be prepared to wait for up to 15 minutes until you get a GPS fix. Mine took more than 10 minutes.
Got it working plus more
Thanks guys you have been a great help
i updated my tomtom software it was easy
as advised i went to here
http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17
installed home software
then went to this site and followed its instructions
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=6736&Lid=1
and installed tomtom home plus on my computer
tomtom home is excellent for anyone that does not have it, its free and a must have.
tomtom home then updated all my software and gave me free some cool new stuff.
after this did as you said went outside three minutes it was up
thanks i hope this helps others
now if i can only try to see if i can modify my 838 to do this aswell
i know the 838's don't have gps connected inside unit but has anyone opened one up and connected it.
I currently have 4 brand new dopod 810s and 4 dopod 838's i will have to sell some as we just got given them and some people oready had them before we got given them.
they were given to you? wow! give them away too. throw one my way

GPS reciever not working on ATT Tilt after flashing HTC ROM

Hi Guys,
I am pretty new to this GPS stuff. I flashed ATT tilt with the HTC rom provided here. Everything works fine and much better than the ATT rom.
Except for the GPS or maybe my lack of knowledge about this GPS thing is making me feel this way.
file use to flash: RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.exe
Can somone give me an idea what do I need to do to see if GPS reciever is working or not.
1) I download this software called GPS test and installed, the software keeps going and runs a check on all COM ports thats what it does and finds nothing.
2) I also downloaded Efficasoft GPS utilitites for pocket pc. it was asking me for the gps device but i had no idea what to put and it says cannot find gps device.
anyways what I need to know is how do I know that the GPS reciever is working.
I would say that I did change the external gps setting to com4 and 9600 baud and tried to see if that would make any of the softwares work but no luck.
Also can someone point out
How to do a hard reset can you please mention the location of the buttons to press.
I am using the HTC ROM would hardreset put the ATT rom back on it.
What exactly does the hard reset do.
Please all help appreciated.
MC
any one have any idea, how to fix this.
Thanks
MC
your gps works just fine and is on com4 running at 4800bps. See post 1 of my rom thread for links to gps utilities that you can use to test this. Next, start reading up on your device. It's all here including the answers you specifically asked for above.
Thank you for answering this.
Can you please give me link to the thread.
MC
Sleuth,
I have searched pretty much all threads under you name but do not find ROM thread with post 1 about gps.
I it possible for you to provide the link to your thread here.
Thanks
MC
I'm using TOM TOM wiht the same HTC ROM and it works fine here. I didn't have to do anything. It just worked here without any issues.
Thanks guys got it working. Since I had changed setting on external GPS. I had to do a hard reset. Once I did the hard reset the GPS worked fine, and I ran GPS test utility to find out if everything was working and it was.
Thanks.

How to activate the internal GPS?

Hi,
I have just purchased the HTC TD2 from Dubai airport on my way to work. I'm still using the stock wm6.1 ROM. I have installed Garmin GMXT on to the TD2 but can not get the internal GPS to be located, is there a trick to it?
FYI I have been using an O2 Atom Life for many years now and GMXT was working on that ok with external BT receiver. I have the SW.UNL file on my device but how to make it work?
Any advise on the best ROM to upgrade to on this site?
Thanx and regards
I had to set up gps software manually. I use this settings for Smartmaps: Com port 4 and baud rate 4800.
Thanx PRDIC,
Where did you set those Com ports? I see in the Settings/system there is a icon for External GPS and that has tabs for "Programs" and another for "Hardware" is this anything to do with hte COM port used by the internal GPS Reciever?
The Garmin GMXT software does not allow the user to define the com ports unless they are set in the "External GPS" application that I mentioned above. I think it should be automatic connection but I'm not seeing the internal GPS. If i use my BT Reciever then i can detect it as BT reciever and connect.
well, it look like a your GMXT (Garmin Mobile XT) didn't register or ativate correctly. please try to ativate using code come with a package when you brought GMXT. if GMXT is not register. it will not show the internal GPS hardware port (useualy port-4).
with un-registered GMXT, it will show only "External GPS" (bluetooth)or "intermideate GPS" which it is a software base between real hardware.
Hope my explained could help. moreover, GMXT atvivate have many process step. just becareful when do it.

Thanx everyone,
I fixed the problem, it was due to a corupted file which occured when i installed the VOIP activation CAB for VOIP calling. The fix was found here and quoted below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402228&page=8
I had the same issue after installing the VOIP CAB on my Touch HD my GPS stopped completely (no GPS found) and found a fix for it in the orig. Thread about the VOIP CAB, where you have to rename a file and reset so it gets fresh created.
After this my GPS was running again.
The solution was "To solve the problem just rename file /windows/dnsapi.dll to for example dnsapi.dll_bck and make soft reset or turn off and on your device.
There will be created a new file with the same name and you can delete the old renamed one. Then the GPS working properly as well as VoIP.
