Problems with downgrading ROM - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I was trying to downgrade my ROM to CID unlock my device. For some reason, i cant load the 1.05 ROM on my phone, and when i turn on my phone, i stay in the bootloader, with IPL and SPL in 2.21. I think i used the application 6 or 7 times now, and i always get at the end the screen of the app that "an internal error has occured"
WHat i did notice too, was that when i want to update the ROM version, the app says:
Verify that you want to update the ROM version:
From:
Model ID: Wizard
Image Version:
Language:
To:
Model IDrodigy
Image Version:
Language: WWE
Is this right at all?
I tried to run the T-mobile RUU for the 2.26 IPL/SPL, but that one even doesnt find the model of my Phone?
What should i do? I really, really need the phone for my work THe one that helps me, will get flowers! Or some beer

How do you upgrade ROM?

hi,
i looked around for instructions on how to upgrade the ROM but i couldn't find any.
i have a very old ROM and i want to upgrade it to the latest ROM that includes the A2DP, etc.
how do i go about installing it? is it like installing a regular application? i have a Qtek 9100.
thanks,
Re: Simple guide - Unlock Vario and update to other ROMs
For anyone else who has had the same problem as we did, follow these simple instructions:
First download lokiwiz v2b. Don't use previous versions or you'll not get through this!!
Hard reset your device (not necessary, but it ensures you'll have no hassle with Activesync).
Done that? Good. Extract the lokiwiz v2b .zip folder and copy enablerapi.cab to your memory card or to 'My Documents' folder on your device. Then execute the 'enablerapi.cab'.
Done? Just switch off the device (power button; put it in standby mode).
If you have Activesync already installed, un-install it and re-install directly afterwards (ensure a brand new partnership).
Then when prompted by Activesync, plug in your USB cable PC-PPC and it should recognise as usual.
Then execute the lokiwiz.bat file (in the folder that was generated earlier when you extracted the lokiwiz02b.zip file) and when you see the MS Dos (black screen) choose the option CID Unlock (SuperCID) and wait for it to COMPLETELY finish. You'll know it's finished when your Wizard is re-booting. Plug out your USB cable at this stage.
Once re-booted and back into WM5, re-connect your cable and if all goes well it should re-connect to Active Sync (wait till it has finished syncing or says connected!).
Finally......double click the executable file, which should be:
RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Hopefully it will now install the ROM without hiccups (about 10 minutes).
Sorry to you gurus for the lengthy explanation, but some of us are still relatively inexperienced to this and a thorough (if you can call it that) explanation of the processes will really be appreciated. I certainly have done when some of guys broke it down to me in the past.
I'm hoping this ROM will not dissapoint me as the others have done, as I've been getting quite frustrated and angry about the whole WM5 & HTC thing.
Good luck.

thanks for finding the informaiton for me!
Thanks for the breakdown. I am new to all this, and not too au fait with all the developer terms, and it can be quite intimidating!
I have an O2 branded XDA Mini S and want to use it with Vodafone SIM card. The device is unlocked, so I can make and receive calls - good start!
However, I want to get rid of all the O2 branding and install the vodafone GPRS/SMS/MMS etc. settings. From what I've read on the forums, the O2 stuff slows the unit down, and it will all be irrelevant anyway. Does the extended ROM you refer to above then get the unit into an "unbranded" state?
Basically, I just want the unit without any trace of O2 (boot splach screen, O2 active etc.) and to be able to put the Vodafone settings in manually...
Thanks
Thanks mackaby007 - managed to update rom using your instructions, and got rid of O2 screen using aWizard!
Unlock to Lock
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to lock the phone back so for example if I had to send it to T-Mobile.
Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Both Loki and aWizard don't work.
Typically when you want to downgrade your phone to an earlier (or shipped version) you need to first downgrade it to Button's 1.05, then you can "upgrade" to back to the desired 1.x or 2.x ROM.
Is that what you're asking?

how is possible to downgrade the wizard phone to 1.05?
I have a T-mob wizard phone with inside IPL 2.21.0001,GSM 2.19.11, OS 2.21.2.6.
Have I to follow the below step?
1)dovngrade to 1.05 . Is necessary only OS or boot loader and ratio too?
2)perform again the flashing procedure.

looks to me that you have a "G4" chipset, I can tell because you are reporting the IPL 2.21.0001 and not just IPL 2.21 Maybe someone else can verify this???? If so please please DONT try to flash before you have researched "G4" chipset flashing first
Dear sir,
you true!!
I have just read a post were is explained that if you have G4 chip is not possible to downgrade or upgrade the ROM.
Bootloaders (IPL/SPL) with .0001 at the end of the version are G4 flash chips.
This info will be very halpefully for everybody need to perform any flashing action on wizard phone.
Do you confirm that is actually not possible to solve this issue?

Alex

I am very confused...
OK.
My wizard have G4 chip inside.
I was been able to remove the SIM lock.
If I try to CID unlock the device I receive CID unlocked successfull but after a ROM update the device stuck at startup.
Now...if I pay on http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ 20£ will be possible to change the ROM?
JAFWM
Hi,
I discovered a SW named JAFWM that is able to flsh evry ROM.
Is this true?
@squarna - Sorry mate but TBH with myself not having a G4 chipset Ive not taken much notice of any post relating to them, if no one else jumps in soon try starting a new thread with the title like "G4 chipset What roms work?" or something and good luck!

[Question] - N00b's questions about ROM upgrading

Hello, I have just got a T-Mobile MDA from a friend, and I'm eager to hack it up
Btw, I'm pretty new about this so I have some questions, if you have time plz share some information or point me to the suitable links
Here is my MDA's information:
My MDA boot up screen reports:
Code:
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.01
GSM 1.12.10.0
OS 1.5.4.2
Device Information reports:
Code:
ROM version 1.5.4.2 WWE
ROM date 11/8/05
Radio version 01.12.10
Protocol version 4.3.13.23
So, erm, I guess it uses pretty old ROM, eh?
I'm using it with my local service provider, I think it has been SIM unlocked.
Now, onto the questions:
1. I want to upgrade it to the newest possible ROM, but I don't know if its CID has been unlocked or not, is there any way to check this?
2. What is the newest ROM that usable by this baby? I read somewhere on this forums that the 2.24 ROM is the newest avaiable, is that right?
3. What is AKU? What's the benefit of AKU 2.3?
4. How to backup the old ROM in order to restore it in case something awful happen?
PS: The MDA boot screen has been modded, because the splash screen displays my friend name with some babe pics lol, I wanna get rid of that.
Seriously, the best advice anyone can give you is:
Read the fourms for a week before you download anything or attempt to flash your Rom.
In 1 week if you have not found or (more importantly) don't completely understand the answers to these questions then don't do it with software from here.
Instead use only official issued Rom updates from your carrier as they will not void the warranty on your device (although technically your friend has already done this by replacing the splash screens).
The information is here but you can seriously F-up your phone (just search for posts referring to "Brick") if you don't understand what you are doing.
If you are concerned about keeping warranty in place then get the latest avaliable Rom from your carrier and flash your phone with it. Just call customer support and give them the info you posted here (leaving out the detail about the splash screens). They will direct you to the website where you can download their files and even walk you through the process. Also they won't help you CID Unlock the device but many carriers will provide SIM unlock codes upon request.
Thanks for your advice, I decided to read around and managed to backup my ROM and flash another one on it.
Now the bootup screen reads:
Code:
IPL 2.24
SPL 2.24
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.24.10.1
And Device Information reads:
Code:
ROM version 2.24.10.1 WWE
ROM date 4/27/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
[b]ExtROM version 2.24.10.101[/b]
There's another new line "ExtROM"
So, I have known how to backup/restore ROM, verify the CID/SIM (un)lock status, and I have flashed the 2.24 TEST ROM for TMo (it shows TEST VERSION NOT FOR RESALE on splash screen)
It boots up faster, with new stuff from original TMo ROM I guess, gotta try it out...

Qtek 9100 and upgrade to WM6

I downloaded Viet4 and run upgrade, on welcome screen on PC during upgrade it does not correctly detect my Wizard and shows as ROM 1.0.0 and for new version it says only blanks.
After upgrade device just boots to previous version of the ROM (2.26). What am I doing wrong?
Let me be the first one to say it before someone else does... Read the Wiki
Joking aside, you need to give more info such as do you have a G3 or G4? Did you CID unlocked your device? The error you have given usually meant that your device is CID locked.

sounds like you didn't CID unlock before trying to flash a rom that didn't come from your carrier.
and the upgrade tool will not have the right info in those fields. If your phone is unlocked the upgrade will work properly. Make sure you use the correct procedure based on whether you have a G3 or G4 phone.
I have G3 device
I have Qtek 9100 which was never locked of course. Then I installed ROM and radio upgrade with versions below
ROM version: 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 6/7/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
Hardware:
CPU:OMAP850
Flash chip type:M-Systems
What do I do now?

What is your IPL/SPL. And how do you know it was never locked? Have you personally unlocked it? Have you ever flashed any rom that was not from your carrier successfully?
If you have a G3 (ipl/spl 2.26/2.26) then I suggest following the full unlocking tutorial thread that is stickied. Trust me your phone is acting like a locked phone. If you haven't personally unlocked it then just humor us and do this. You will be amazed at the results.
If you have a G4 (ipl/spl 2.26.0001/2.26.0001) then you will have to use the pay website to unlock your phone. There is no other known way to unlock G4 devices at this time.
I assume since it was bought in Russia and branded as Qtek 9100 then it was not locked. Is it possible that ROM upgrade to Cingular ROM actually locked my phone?
SPL 2.26/2.26
I going through downgrade right now and then do CID unlock. Do I have to do SIM unlock as well? How do I know if device is unlocked?

SIM unlock will allow you to use any sim from any carrier without getting an invalid sim error. If you aren't getting this error already you should be ok not doing it but it doesn't hurt to do it since you are in there with Lokiwiz already.
The tutorial tells you to do the SIM unlock first then do the CID unlock.
once you are completely done don't forget to flash up to a 2.x rom (2.26 T-Mobile rom suggested) before flashing a custom rom.
At this point when you flash the custom rom your OS and possibly GSM will change (IPL/SPL may change if you use a rom that includes them)
You should be good to go once the CID unlock process is done completely.
I used Unlock and CID Unlock, both went fine. Now IPL 1.01 SPL 2.26 OS 1.5.4.2.
Do I need to upgrade to 2.X before upgrading to WM6 or I can run upgrade the way it is now? Do I need to upgrade IPL (whatever it is to 2.26 as it was before?)
THanks,

Right now you need to install the button rom again to get both IPL and SPL to 1.05. At that point you can flash back up to 2.26 and then to a custom rom of your choice.
The reflash of the button 1.05 rom is to ensure that you are truly unlocked. you will see that both IPL and SPL go to 1.05 -- this is good
The flash to a carrier 2.x rom is so that you have a good 2.x bootloader and don't inadvertantly flash a 2.x rom without bootloaders into 1.x bootloaders which will cause all kinds of issues.
Yes, you must flash a full 2.x rom before flashing the wm6 rom. The T-Mobile 2.26 is the recommended rom as it has the latest bootloaders available.
Then you go to the rom of your choice and enjoy
I know it's a pain in the behind but it is tried and true
Thanks,
This worked. The only issue now after I installed WM6 it starts installing some T-Mobile crap which appears belongs to 2.26 ROM I installed before. How can I clean install of WM6 without any T-Mobile stuff?
Thanks,

Might have to flash a rom that has an empty extended rom before going to the one you went to. My guess is that the rom you flashed did not include an extended rom and when you flashed it the customizations ran from the previous roms extended rom since it was still there.
Faria's 3.3 v2 has a settings chooser menu so you can select settings for whichever network you are on but that only sets up MMS/GPRS stuff, and doesn't install any carrier specific apps.
Never mind, I recovered using some old iMate ROM. The problem now is that iMate ROM updated SPL/IPL to 2.16 while I had 2.26 for both before. Is it ok to run with 2.16 or there might be some issues? What is SPL/SPL are used for?

2.16 should be fine. It is 2.xx and that is what really matters.
The issue that some people encounter is flashing an AKU2 or higher ROM into 1.xx bootloaders and have all sorts of issues, phone won't charge, radio doesn't show up, pda works but phone doesn't, battery drains quickly and no way to recharge, etc.

as you say that your device is SIM/CID unlocked and already using wm6 Faria rom, then I don't think there shud be any problem upgrading to any other new rom,as to the error 208,wud you plz post the exact error what it says,if it say it's a file error...can be related to a missing file called enterbootloader.exe. ,then most probably the file you downloaded is corrupt.which NBD rom you have downloaded.download latest NBD Rom from here and try to flash.

But I'll also advice you to flash back again T-mobile 2.26 to have a clear solid base again to start off for upgrading to new rom,it wud give you the advantage of clearing any misappropriations happened during your first install of Faria Rom as it is quite old build.flashing t-mobile 2.26 will give you a new clean base to upgrade make's sure your extended_rom is clean and uncorrupted, it causes all kinds of problems .sure you'll be fine good luck

ERROR [208] : FILE OPEN
These error messages indicate that RUU lacks certain important files and cannot continue with the update. Please get the complete RUU package again.
as t-mobile 2.26 flashed and loaded good, than there's no problem with your bootloader,Ok,Now do this, remove your phone from the usb cable(disconnect it) and do a Hard reset of your phone by doing this :-
1. Press and hold the comm manager button and voice command button on the device together with one hand
2.Keep the two buttons pressed, and at the same time, with other hand, use the stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button
the device will reboot and switch back on.
then delete active sync, reboot your PC,Run disk Clean wizard on Drive C:\ ,check all options in Disk Clean options, specially Temporary internet files and perform disk cleanup, after that delete all cookies in Internet options.
than download the latest version of Active sync ver 4.5 and install.
after this go into bootloader mode in your phone and connect to PC,but don't establish connection with Active sync, cancell the connection when it asks
when you connect witusb you'll see small usb showing at the bottom of bootloader screen (tri color screen) if it's there then open the rom file and try to flash, hope it'll be ok.
just post your present IPL/SPL...? it appears in red color when you switch on the phone and on the boot screen at the top.whatever the ipl/spl..? is there at the moment just post it,ok
I still believe the error 208 is due to some missing files, may be the NBD rom is getting some corruption

Ipl/spl: 2.26
Ok so I did everything you told me to do in your 2nd to last post : deleted activesync and clear cookies and did disk clean, and hard reseted my phone. Then i tried to flash both NBD and TNT and neither of them worked. So then i flashed back to my orignal rom, the one my phone came with. Then tried flashing both of them, and still nothing? I keep getting the Error 208
Current IPL/SPl are both 2.25

hmmm !
IPL/SPL 2.25 G3 AKU2 version,
ok,now tell me,when you flashed the original rom,was it successful, did it load up ? is your phone working normal with the original rom ?
I just feel as your phone is still not CID unlock,do one more thing, download this WST tool from the link below, install and run it,then post whatever report it generates,ok
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329170
Ah 1
so,when you flashed with T-mobile 2.26 you had ipl/spl 2.26,afterwards you flashed back with your original rom,is it cingular rom ? so ipl/spl 2.25 is registered. Both of these Roms T-mobile and original(cingular or ?) which you flashed are official roms.so only official roms are flashing and not the custom builds, hmm, so custom build rom can only be flashed if device is CID unlocked.
It means may be your device is still not CID unlocked ?
But i did CID unlock, because thats how i got Faria v5.0 on my phone. Do I have to CID unlock everytime i flash?... Ok so i ran that program you told me to and heres what i got.

replace the files from MUNN with the one in NBD,
just a hunch may be bootloader of your phone not accepting romupdateutility of NBD,lets replace and see,it might do the trick.
you are awesome.... its loaded NBD... I guess it was a corrupted file. Now does this mean i can put TNT on my phone? If so will i have to replace those files?

Is my CID unlocked?

I purchased this orbit from ebay.
Here is the information of my ppc:
IPL 3.04.0001
ROM version: black&blue v4.2 WWE
ROM date: 7/10/2007
Radio version: 02.98.90
protocol version: 4.1.13.47
My questions are:
1. Is the phone CID unlocked? So I can install any version?
2. If I want to upgrade this version, where and how to do it?
3. Lots of people say that I have to downgrade my IPL to 1.1, otherwise I can not perform the previous two actions.
I just get confused. The seller said that he has flashed the phone. If the CID is locked, how could he do that. But the IPL version is higher. How can he flash the phone without downgrade IPL?
I am very new to ppc. The current rom seems a little bit slow. Any other recommended?
Any help is appreciated.

the ORBIT isn´t a WIZARD, right?
so you´re in the wrong forum.
to flash a rom there are several ways, you don´t have to unlock the cid.
hard spl, soft spl, don´t know what works on the ORBIT (is the ORBIT the HTC ARTEMIS? sorry don´t know)
steph
USPL
For Artemis it's called USPL.
When you're booting your phone there should be SPL 1.11, then it's CID unlocked.
If you're unsure, just run USPL again and everything is fine
