App unlocking help - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I am running WM6, but my company implemented push email, and the device is now app unlocked after installing some certificates etc. I cannot run half of my programs - I tried the SDA-Application.exe program, which seemed to be succesful, but did not work. I cannot open a registry editor either.
I search all over this forum but cannot find the answer - how can I app unlock my wizard again?
We are also about to be issued HTC Touches which are similarly app locked, so it would be useful to have a method that worked for both!
Thanks

have you tried the lokiwiz and awizard apps?
rgs

No - these don't do certificate/application unlocking do they - I thought just CID/SIM locking?

PS I tried installing lokiwiz but I can't due to the app lock!

Both awizard and lokiwiz don't simply remove the Unsigned App Policies nor RAPI communication restrictions. What they need to work is for the phone to be in that state (app+rapi unlocked) and that's why there are some CAB that go along that are supposed to be run prior.
You can use my tool (WST - check signature) that does it with a click of a button
cheers

Great tool - didn't connect on Vista, connected on XP but says:
Not needed!
Regsitry settings are already set to use RAPI tools.
But I still cannot run unsigned apps! I have rebooted. I know they added a root and user certificate to the device - all apps have to be signed now.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks

Sure, get yourself a registry editor and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies and edit two values:
:00001006=dword:1
:0000101a=dword:1
hope it does the trick

I tried mobile reg editor, which lets you edit the registry from a PC, and one of the reg keys was set to 0. But I changed it, rebooted, and same probem

Ok, looks like they changed some other settings that interfere with the permissions.
Check if HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\CertMod\AllowUntrustedApps is set to DWORD: 1

Hang on I figured it out....the 00001006 key was for some reason not applied once I rebooted. Thanks for all the help!
For anyone needing to do the same - I had to download mobile registry editor from http://mobile-registry-editor.en.softonic.com/pocket as that allows you to edit keys from the PC without installing anything.
My new problem, is that on our touch/elf I cannot change this key with this program as it says access denied - so there must be some registry permissions on there.

hsclater said:
Yes that is set to 1. It should be right?

I pointed that because when i set it to 0 the phone refused to install apps so i thought it was the responsible registry value.
Must be another one then...

Thanks for all your help - my wizard is now sorted.
Any idea how they restricted the registry on a touch so I can't change that value?

I believe those settings are more related to WM6 than to the specific device so they should be the same.
btw, how did you sort it out? I'd like to know for future use
tx

Mine was just fixed by changing the 1006 value. The first time, the phone didn't take the change, but the second time it did and now works.
But the touch, it won't let me edit the registry remotely - access denied.
Cheers.

upload Cert_SPCS.cab to your phone and run it
PS:
sorry for asking but i didn't read your edit before

.cab queries

Hi,
I need some assistance. I am currently cooking my extended rom. My Extended rom does not have enough space so, i am putting some of my MUST HAVE softwares in my storage so that it installs after a HARD RESET.
But, most .cab files will auto delete upon launch. Is there any way to make
it not delete ? Kindly assist.
Thanx a million
You can avoid the CAB files being deleted by making them read-only.
Well i mean that there is a Registry hack that will not delete .cab's on installation, but you would have to make a .cab with that registry setting and install it as the first thing after hardreset, although i dont think it will work since the registry is already loaded, and the new setting require a reboot to work.
Look in Wiki for registry hacks.
So why dont you just Write protect the .cab's that you want to hold on to

i have tried that but, dont work
All my "wanna hang on to" .cab's are write protected, and non of them get deleted upon installation.
Manuel installation that is.

I have room enoughf in my ExtRom, so I have never auto installed from other than the ExtRom.
But I'm almost 100% sure that there was a topic on auto installing from \Storage (Card) sometime ago.
Maybee youll find some info in the Wiki

Wait a day or two, maybe someone who knows come along.
You can use a software name Cabinst wich let you install a cab without deleting it.
Easy.
Hi,
Easiest way is to make cab read only. Browse the storage card using PC via activesync. Right click on cab file. Go to properties and make it readonly.
You can also change the deafult beahvior of Instal by changing registry key.

*fEnableCef : I haven't messed around with that
* nDynamicDelete=0 and the CAB file remains, =1 it disappears but what the difference with the default value 2 is I couldn't figure out.

XDA Mini S ROM update

Hi
Am newbie to the whole XDA thing (am just converting from BB), have managed to unlock my XDA Mini S and tried running K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020721_ship.exe as i heard this would reflash the ROM to the latest (a friend of mine gave me this copy).
Got an error during this, and wondered if there was a specific XDA Mini S version (have searched on the site and it appears that there is on ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard) and there are many different ROMS under the ROM directory, but i am unable to login to this site.
Am i just being thick here.
Any help gretaly appreciated.
That ROM upgrade worked ok on my xda-mini-s
When I upgraded my ROM I done the following.....
#unlock phone
with no SIM card in phone
copy EnableRapi.cab to phone
run EnableRapi.cab from phone
run lokiwiz.bat from PC
select option 'U' Unlock SIM
phone reboots
add SIM to backout bin file names on PC
run lokiwiz.bat from PC
select option 'C' unlock CID
phone reboots
add CID to backout bin file names on PC
#install new ROM
uncomress ROM file from zip
click ROM install file
follow instruction
takes 10 minutes
phone reboots
Hope this helps
Bilbo,
Hi. I ran through what you put but my Mini S does not auto reboot. I'm not sure the exact definition of a soft reboot is? - Put the stylus in the side or hold the power button for a few seconds?
Either way I cannot get the new KJAM rom on as invalid vendor ID is haunting me.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
Ben
Dudes - I've done the same upgrade to my mini S. Not sure if it's worth the bother. No difference in speed/performance and my keyboard shifted symbols (@?£$) are out of sync. I think I'll go back to the Mini S rom without the customised stuff.
LLcoolJ:
I noticed lots of difference, speed and battery life.
To get the keyboard from US to UK symbols use the following:
Here are the registry changes ....
Keyboard language
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809 English UK
0409 English US
0407 German
0419 Russian
040C French
0410 Italian
040A Spanish

The invalid vendor ID is the result of the ROM update..... to get rid of it make sure you run :
run lokiwiz.bat from PC
select option 'U' Unlock SIM
phone reboots
add SIM to backout bin file names on PC
A soft reboot is when you hit the reset button on the right hand side, its like rebooting a PC. A hard reset however is a re-install boot where you loose everything and the ROM is re-installed.
Cheers Bilbo - I've made the changes to the registry and the keyboard talks like me. Your right about battery power as well.
Bilbo.
Thank you for replying and helping.
Let me just go over what you said...
first I ran the loki cab file on the mini S.
run lokiwiz.bat from PC -- done.
select option 'U' Unlock SIM -- done (with sim card removed)
phone reboots -- not automatically though, but I will reboot it after the lokiwiz.bat finishes
add SIM to backout bin file names on PC -- what does this mean? this is not in the lokiwiz instructions and this is where i'm going wrong. Where is the bin file created btw, I can never find it?
I have tried so many combinations i'm starting to lose hope.
If you can help to get this damn thing working I promise to make a donation to this web site.
Thanks for all the good work.
Ben
i managed to get the unlock, but did not do the CID (so will try that).
So once i have done that will the K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020721_ship.exe upgrade work?
Here's how I got mine working. - Remove the Sim card. Make sure you use Lockwiz02b. Select U to unlock from the options menu. The mini S should reboot automatically. Leave the device alone until its functional again and then start Lockwiz02b again. Select C (CID unlock) from the menu. It should reboot again and close down the Lockwiz box. The mini S should now be ready for a rom upgrade. On my first attempt I used the original Lockwiz prog which caused problems for me.
I'm about to do my rom update on my mini s....but this thread is so confusing!
Is there a step by step guide somewhere on the forum???
ROM Upgrade
Upgraded O2 XDA mini without any real problems:
I used the aWizard 1.3 Beta 2 tool which allowed me to carry out the CID Unlock and was pretty easy to understand. What it did not do was pick up the ROM from the rom folder but once I had completed the CID unlock I ran the rom normally and all was well.
So in essence: Connect Mini to PC via Activesync
Run the aWizard Bat file enabling RAPI (This is used to communicate with your XDA once it has done using Activesync). Then select the Unlock CID option. Once completed I then exited the wizard and followed the instructions as part of the rom upgrade and all worked well no hitches except the one mentioned above about the keyboard (now I have to find out how to modify the registry).
So what I used: aWizard 1.3 Beta 2 and QTEK Rom 2.17
186504-ruu_9100_2170702_21707102_20710_qtek_wwe_ship.exe
Mystery Solved!!!!
I finally figured out why its not working....
When I downloaded the loki zip file I opened it up in winzip and dragged the contents to a folder I created. Ran the batch file eveything seemed ok and the unlocker said it unlocked the device.
I have now realised that you have extract the files from the loki zip file and use the folder structure. If you don't, the utils directory is not created and the loki.bat cannot reference some files.
Found the answer on page 12/13 of the loki thread.
Thanks All
Ben
After doing the CID unlock the ROM install worked fine.
Just having the keyboard issue at the moment with symbols, went to:
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809 English UK
but could not find the locale key to set to UK?
All i see is:
DefaultKeyLock
InitialDelay
MuteSwitch
RepeatRate
ShowWarningMsg
Am i looking in the right place or do i have to add this in (if so how)?
Cheers
Youv'e got to create a new registry key. Assuming you've got a registry editor. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Keybd.
Then create a new string value. Name it Locale and give it a value of 0809 for UK. Then reboot.
Just went in a created the new reg key as you mentioned.
Rebooted and it worked.
Many thanks for all your help on this, it is most appreciated.
I am now the converted!!!
So to sum up for anybody else:
Bought XDA Mini S from 02
use Lockwiz02b
Select U to unlock from the options menu
The mini S should reboot automatically
Start Lockwiz02b again
Select C (CID unlock) from the menu
It should reboot again and close down the Lockwiz box
The mini S should now be ready for a rom upgrade.
Then run
K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020721_ship.exe
follow usual prompts.
Once phone is up and running, get a reg edit tool (i used PHMregedit) as the keyboard for a couple of the symbols is out of synch (think it is US style).
Using regedit tool
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Keybd
Then create a new string value
Name it Locale and give it a value of 0809 for UK
Then reboot.
Mini XDA should now work fine.
I have found that the new push technology for email is faster than Blackberry and more usueful.
Hope this is helpful to others.
Cheers great forum
quick question...
i am fed up with waiting for o2 to release their latest ROM so i am going to take the plunge with this ROM instead, my question is do i have to make any special changes once installed to make it work with O2 UK i.e. mms settings, GPRS settings etc.?
Also i noticed somebody has put together a T-Mobile USA customised ROM any chance that somebody will do this for O2 UK?

New Roms
Hi there - I'm sure this is your answer - I have read this on many forums.
WM05 takes a while to store the registry updates after you exit your editor. Make the registry change and wait a minute or so before performing the soft reset.
Hope this helps - we have all fell for this "improvement" to WM5 from the boys at MS.
Regards,
Chris.

Extended ROM - Some CABs don't Execute

I'm trying to customize a few Extended ROMs here and I'm running into some stubborn CABs. When installed manually, everything works fine. No warnings, no errors. Just click the CAB, let it do its thing, then click OK.
Put these same ROMs into an Extended ROM and hilarity ensues. Some will work, others will not and I don't know why. Any suggestions on what I might be missing will be greatly appreciated.
Quick question?
Are the CAB's signed, if not are you installing the 'signed' unsign CAB 1st .
Edit: Thinking more about this (and realising that the 1st thing you do is disable signing in your ROM's ) can you provide a little more info about the CAB's (maybe an offending CAB if the content is not private?).
I managed to replicate this issue with a CAB that had a warm reset as part of it's install process (seems to bork the autoexec batch process) and I have had a similar issue with a CAB that just contained some simple OMA in the _setup.xml.

yes, that's the point. But how to make any Unsigned CABs become Signed?

Without wanting to sounds facetious you sign them ;-)
You would use a private key to generate an Authenticode signature for the CAB (and maybe the apps inside if you need to) however you would still need to install the ROOT certificate into the code stores on your device. Or get your app signed by a 3rd party with a certificate that has it's ROOT already on the device (MS's MobileToMarket and things like that take care of this for ISV's that need it).
Once you have the ROOT cert on the device in the correct store signing is trivial, you either use SignTool.exe from many of the MS SDK’s or just use the GUI options if Visual Studio is your poison. All you need is an export of the PKF (Private key) and the password to the certificate.
In enterprises one of the 1st things people often do before giving Windows Mobile devices out to users is to install a ROOT certificate for the enterprise onto the device in both the code and transmission stores. This means from then on you can sign in-house apps and CAB’s and they behave as signed commercial apps and you can use features like internal signed SSL for ActiveSync etc. etc.
Don’t forget you can also do away with a lot of this by installing the HTC signed “Disable Certificates” CAB 1st and then the signatures are not checked on subsequent CAB’s, EXE’s or anything code related for that matter.

I am NOT a software developer so, most of your opinions sound enigmatic to me except that the last one: put the HTC signed "Disable Cert" in the 1st place of the ext-rom config.txt.

most problably you forgot to set some cab file to read-only before saving the extende-rom.check the cabs atrebutes and the config.text file while inside de program that you are using to edit the extended-rom.its not because they are not signed as long you got the cert .cab set to be the first to be installed.also cab files that require user input will not work.this is from experience, as posted above.

Sorry to ping an old thread - flogging to proceed immedietly after...
Being that this is a windows device, isn't there a flag that can be passed when executing the cab - like you can on a windows installer application? Similar to setup.exe -q or whatever you're trying to do. Some flags set the answers to yes, admin mode... you get the picture. Does the cab installer engine allow similar flags to get passed with the cab execution command?
In PPC, it calls wceload.exe to install and uninstall a cab.
As shown in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms926281.aspx , the only possible argument is to ask or not ask for destination, but no quiet mode.
How can you call wceload.exe manually at ExtROM installation may be a question.

Wifi not working on any HTC Comm Manager!

I have tested a few HTC Comm Managers(new black theme. Kaiser style) and low and behold non of them have the wifi working right. I cannot enable/disable it from the comm manager. Anybody find a real working one that does this? Even some that were claimed to be "FIXED" didn't work...
Anyone have a dump of the original also? (stock WM6)
I've got the same problem since the upgrade to WM6. Nothing works: soft-hard reset, upgrade... WLAN doesn't works (since comm manager).
me too...any solution mods?
Same problem here... The default WM6 HTC comm manager is working corectly.
anyone have a cab file of the original? incase i want to revert back to it?
You might find the fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326655&highlight=wing+10+button
What's wrong with it?
I'd tried to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48832&d=1188607222
And then, the following message: "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system p ermissions"
...
When I try to do the change in registry, a new surprise: in the registry tree, after CommManager doesn't exist "WLAN", but numbers (0,1,2,3... and in 3 there's WLAN). The change in registry: NOT WORK YET!
I've found the problem (maybe...). In folder "Connections" there's not Wi-Fi icon... what it means?

SAME THING HERE! No permission to do this! I hope this does not result in a hard reset.
OK, I finally got anew one installed. Even though I tried a fresh install after a reboot, I still couldnt get it installed. So, what I did was start commmanager, Bthen stop it in Settings > Memory > Active programs
REALLY A GENIE!!! I'll try it...
It's Ok! Now, I could installed the comm manager, but it doesn't work... What I must fix exactly?
This is exactly what I did:
- Step 1: Copy to the phone and run it.
- Step 2: (Fixing WLAN button malfunction, somehow it doesn’t work by default on Wing): **Thanks for beowulf6’s post for this fix.
Change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \HTC \CommManager \WLAN= "Windows WLanMgr.exe " "DeviceName" = "{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} TNETW12345"
the end of this long String is the WLAN-Adaptername of the Device.
just change in this Example "TNETW12345" into "TNETWLN1"
-Step 3: (Fixing Wi-Fi setting launch issue) **Thanks for phatman81’s post for this fix.
Change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\ Default:"
\Windows\WlanMgr.exe --> \Windows\ctlpnl.exe
After all this... The WLAN icon is always off...
Nobody else has the same problem? It's incredible!! I begin to think that I've done something wrong. It has began after the upgrade to WM6... Now, I can't downgrade to WM5 because I don't have the rom WM5 original... :'(
That CommManager dosen't seem to work well. I had problems with it. I found another one that DID work though.

Do a search. You will find that you have to edit the settings in the registry for the comm manager.
I have this same problem. If anybody has a cab file of the stock tmo com manager, please post it!
Thanks in advance!
You guys...
Go into the registry and find out what the name is for the wireless adapter is. Take that information and change the adapter that is shown in the comm manager.
Thats really all there is to it.
If youre going to screw with the software, youre going to need to blood on your hands. You cant just throw stuff on the phones and expect it to work.
All right...
On my wing
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\<DeviceName>
{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\TNETTWLN1
That is the adapter for my phone, might be the same for you.
If youre using the changable comm manager you will have to change the settings for the wlan setup.
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\<Default>
\Windows\WrlsMgr.exe
Once again might be different for you.

\Windows\WlanMgr.exe --> \Windows\ctlpnl.exe
After all this... The WLAN icon is always off...
Nobody else has the same problem? It's incredible!! I begin to think that I've done something wrong. It has began after the upgrade to WM6... Now, I can't downgrade to WM5 because I don't have the rom WM5 original... :'(

Registry settings - Access is Denied

I'm trying to change a few values in my registry in the "HKLM\Security" section and it keeps telling me Access is Denied. I know other people are doing it, so just wondering what you have to do in order to allow yuorself to change these values?
Thanks
