This would be due to an oversized inbox. This happened to me again recently as someone sent me multiple emails with 5+MB files in each. Once I deleted those everything was back to normal. You can also try moving oversized emails to created directories, the point is to keep your inbox slim.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to these boards but have been a long time PDA/phone user. Last night, I downloaded and installed the 2.25 ROM for my Cingular 8125 device and setup my Exchange account.
I have an MS Exchange 2003 SP2 mailbox and setup Direct Push, but the e-mails still take a minute or two to get to me when a Blackberry or GoodLink take about 15 seconds. It seems that the Exchange server just pushes out an IP packet to my phone to make it go through the [seemingly wasteful] process of performing an ActiveSync operation. So constantly my connection arrows are alternating between "connected" and "ActiveSyncing." To me, it's almost as slow as the old SMS push-pull method.
Furthermore, it seems that (a) my ability to sync my subfolders is gone. Previously, I could select folders to sync to my device from my device. Now, I can select all my folders, but they are all empty (except my Inbox). If I go to Menu -> Tools, the "Manage Folders" option is greyed out. I cannot tap and hold a folder to sync it. And (b), the option to manually "send/receive" is also greyed out. If I turn DirectPush off (which I do at night to prevent receiving my emails), I have to open the ActiveSync application to get my e-mail instead of previously being able to tap Menu -> Send/Receive from the Messaging program.
Is this normal? Are these the results that others are seeing from MSFP? Finally, are there any other noteworthy improvements in this ROM other than MSFP? If this is the case, and there are no other improvements, wouldn't it behoove me to revert back to the previous ROM?
Thank you in advance for you help and insight!

The messaging app can switch between SMS, Email and MMS. You can switch it by press Email button on top left corner or by changing accounts in menu. Sounds like all you issue is related to the fact that your messaging app is currently in other accounts like SMS or MMS.

Foxbat,
Thank you, but I am in the Outlook E-mail account. I'm pretty savvy about these things to know at least that much!
I'm still not able to manage my folders or manually send and receive and I still feel like there's a longer lag time than Blackberry or GoodLink.
Are you using the MSFP ROM with an Exchange 2003 SP2 account? If so, what are your experiences?
Thanks again!
Yes, I'm using MSFP on 2.17 ROM right now. I have none of your issues.
i can just say that it doesn't sound like the MSFP is actually working in your case. Once i switched to directpush, my messages are on my phone within 5 seconds, no activesync whatsoever. same for calendar, tasks and contacts.
i have a tmo blackberry and a tmo mda - i tested sending messages to both at the same time, on average the mda receives the message about 1 second later than the blackberry - an extrememly nice improvement.
The send/receive option in Outlook account is always greyed out, you can only receive email there by syncing or push mail. there is a thread on this on this forum, called Pocket Outlook Account is worthless or something like that.

Wrong. It works just fine all the time for me in 2.17 ROM and 2.24 ROM (I skipped the worthless 2.25 Cingular ROM). I don't know what's wrong with OP's issue. Maybe he should re-examine the settings or do a hard reset.
I had a similar problem when I updated my ROM. Send/recieve and Manage Folders was greyed out. I fixed it by deleting the sync to my exchange and re-adding it through active sync on my PC. From active sync on the PC double click Exchange server. Click the "delete server" button. Wait for it to sync and remove all your emails from the phone. Then go Tools > Configure Server Source and add it back in. This worked for me.
If that doesn't work, you can select folders in active sync. That also worked for me before I deleted and re-added my exchange. Not as handy as being able to do it from the phone though.
edit: oops. old thread. Is it 2007 already? :O Oh well, the info may help someone...

It's helped me! Thank you so much peon!
I never see any posts about this. Starting to wonder if im the only one. When i do a send/recieve on my gmail account it takes a while to retrieve messages. sometimes 5 minutes or more. It usually sits on "looking for changes" for the majority of this time. My Exchange account will do this in under 30 seconds. Anyone know why this is? I had this problem with my hermes as well. Im sure its something with Windows mobile or gmail and not the phone. Just curious if this happens to everyone. Thanks.
It takes about 20 sec to connect to my gmail, receive and disconnect.
maybe its a cingular thing?
I have cingular/att.. lol. sorry man
my Gmail account does not work at all
I had to use FlexMail to get it to work
I had a similar problem with Pocket Live Hotmail (using Outlook Pocket of course), it took the client about3-5 min saying "synchronizing Inbox'' but after that.. I get a message saying I could not communicate with the server..
thankfully, with the help of one of xda-dev members, it turned out that when you have very large inbox, Outlook will not work...so I organize my Inbox, and divided it into folders, and it works very well now...
you might have a similar problem...and maybe this is why it is taking so long to retrieve your emails...
BTW, if anyone knows how to get Gmail to work with Outlook, I'd really appreciate that
cheers

I do not get this problem at all on my Kaiser. You are obviously leaving a copy of you mail on the servers (is that intentional?). I also leave mine on the server so that I can collect it from my PC as the main collection point (which then removes it). However, despite me using the same settings as you I do not see this problem. Have you checked all the advanced settings?
Do you have the deleted items being emptied each time you connect/disconnect? (This is in messaging app - menu-tools-options and the Storage tab) Try looking at this setting - I am just guessing but it may be that your device is emptying the deleted items and so when you next connect it recollects all mail not knowing it was originally put into the deleted items by you?
Just a guess that may be worth looking at .
ekh this problem has gotten even worse now that ive upgraded to dutty's 6.1 rom... now it wont even delete the emails off the server! i delete thee mails, hit send/recieve, and everything seems to be fine. but next time it downloads my email it downloads all the old emails! i've checked all my settings, and everything is right! any ideas? i might just end up going back to a 6.0 rom...

I have dutty's 6.1 on my kaiser also. No email issues here. I have my kaiser set to delete my mail right off the server, where they go into the servers delete file untill I permanently delete them. I usually keep about 6 months worth in the delete file in case I need to look one up. There is a setting in the kaiser email setup to delete off the server. Is it checked? Sounds like everytime you sync it's sending whatever's there. My sync is set to always on. Maybe that makes a diff.
any more news... Using duttys' too and same probblem... Using godaddy for the server and the emails won't delete off the server..
However outlook on laptop and my old hermies/Tytn-I/8525 running 6.0 works!!!
OK folks, does anyone have any recommendations for Gmail push mail for the Kaiser?
Gmail App: Either adding this to your phone, or using it online on your phone seems to work well, but, unless I'm an idiot, there is no push--you have to check your e-mail manually. That kinda kills it.
emoze: http://www.emoze.com/en/get/index.asp. This is a neat little app that you install on your phone, and it seems to log you into a server that checks your Gmail (or Yahoo, whatever) and then pushes whatever it finds there to your phone. However, this seems relatively buggy and unreliable. One, if it works when you send an email, not long after it will download that sent email to your phone and tell you you have an email. Two, it wants to fiddle with your activesync settings which don't seem to work too well.
mobiPush: At http://www.mobiPush.com. Well, this seems unreliable, or at least, slow as hell. Now, being used to text messages, maybe the speed is normal for push mail, I don't know. Oddly enough, it won't connect to the internet when I have my USB cable plugged in, even though I have "Allow wireless connections" checked in activesync.
mail2web live: http://services.mail2web.com/FreeServices/. I have no idea, I haven't tried it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Other suggestions? Want to point out my glaring errors? Feel free, and thanks!
Do you have issues w/ Imap? I have mine setup to check every 15 or 30 minutes and only keep 3 days of messages on my phone so it doesn't get too cluttered. I dont have the issue of sending an email and having the sent message show up as new when using this manner either. Just a thought/suggestion.
My gmail pushes to kaiser perfectly fine...
It's an option in Gmail you have to set.
Seven

this pushes email great for me

I just found that and set it up, thank you!
What I'm trying to avoid is having the phone check for email, and it seems that with Gmail IMAP you have to tell the phone to check at whatever intervals you want.

When you say it's "an option in Gmail you have to set," can you be more specific?
It seems that by setting up IMAP the phone has to check, Gmail isn't pushing mail to the phone automatically, is it? There doesn't seem to be a reason for the phone to check if Gmail is pushing.
Thoughts? And thank you!

I second that.
What the 2 guys before me said.
Gmail itself seems curiously silent about this one. Especially because it would be a MASSIVE boon to their business...

As it turns out, the USB issue was a different issue all together. That's just Activesync being kinda crappy. D'oh!
That doesn't make mobiPush suddenly awesome, just that it had nothing to do with them. Heh.
what about Flexmail? It has IMAP IDLE support which will function like push email. If you set up the Gmail IMAP account under the program, it should automatically notify you when new emails are received.
Check the Hacking and Development area for ImapPusherService. I haven't gotten it to work on mine yet, but others have had good success. It isn't perfect, but as long as you don't SR very often it should work no problem. Downside, if you do a SR you have to relaunch the program and reenter your username and password.
I was just going to say the same thing having read this thread last night but not replied. ImapPusherService is what you're after. Very fast and works well. It's going to be THE software for pushing email to windows mobile.
FYI if you haven't got it working you should dump the tracking file and send it to the developer but before you do this try putting recent: before your username like this recent:username
and here's the link
http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
BTW Seven in my experience is poor. Use it if you want an email client that doesn't push but simply checks for email every 5 minutes and takes up memory. Oh wait. pocket outlook does this without taking up extra memory!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check into this, as it ain't free. I must say that gives me a bit more confidence as I bought Pocket Informant recently. That program goes a bit overboard, but it does what they say it will do.
Gracias.

what do you mean check for email every 5 minutes? seven isn't push?
Why use an app? go to your Gmail page and enable pop ( under settings ) Works great for me. I have mine saving 1 weeks worth of emails on the phone, automatically downloading all attachments, as well as updating every 5 minutes.... Never had an issue. I use my gmail rather than my blackberry email from work because the Kaiser handles mail SOOOOOO much better with attachments.
I am using Flexmail as well and found it the best solution so far for push Gmail. Setup was relatively easy and I like the advanced folder management options that Flexmail provides. Also, html formatting is a big plus.
I tried Seven, mobipush, emoze, and mail2web. All of them had some disadvantages such as bulky background client, slow receive/send, instability with other apps, and 3rd party reply-to address (mail2web). Flexmail is well worth the cost as it connects to the Gmail imap servers directly and I typically receive emails in my phone within 10 seconds of it actually appearing on Gmail web-mail.

In my experience it is not. I set it up and intermittently sent test emails to my address. Got new mail exactly every 5 mins....

Thanks for the heads up on this one. As a plus: it's Free, and that's brilliant. It's small, doesn't use up much space, memory, et cetera. However, it only seems to work intermittently, and that's just not worth the trouble.
posted in DCD'd Titan Rom 3.2.5 ROM as well....
Don't know where the error is. Reflashed 3.2.5 three times, same error. Just to put it out there.... anyone using the beta program Seven for pushing email?
Gmail worked before but will not connect from the Gmail shortcut from the login screen. Yahoo and Hotmail shortcuts work fine. Went in to "Other Pop Accounts" and added Gmail there and worked fine.
Note: No issues at all regarding this with 3.2.3
Hi guys and thanks for your help in advance.
2 days ago, my Thouch Diamond was freezing up every 10mins and had a low space problem on the main memory (even touch I only install the bare essentials on it and put everything on the internal storage)
I just discover that with some emails that I kept (hotmail account) they were now blank! I can open it to view them, the info on the sender and the subject are both visible but the message is gone?!?
Those are pretty important emails about clients and I must have them on me at all times, they are ok when accessing my hotmail account on a PC.
Is there a way to get the body of those emails back? I have tried to sync/refresh/send-receive multiple times and it doesnt do much difference. The hotmail account is locked/blocked so you cant delete it and get a fresh start by recreating itlike with other accounts. Is there a way to delete it and the create another to be able to get those emails back?
Could it be a problem with files in the \windows\messaging\ folder? I know there were quite a few files (about 1000) and now there is just a few in there?!?
Really need this ASAP... Thank god its a long weekend to recover from this.
Thanks alot for any help you can give me, I really need it!
