Whats everyone else running?
Test was done on Tmobile Wing with SK Tools.

There's mine. I'm running PDAViet's latest rom on my wing, with a 6mb pagepool and the cpu overclocked to 273.

When i upgraded my Himalaya to WM5, I think I used used the 64 MB RAM version. I used the himaDOC tool to partition my device and give 64 MB to the RAM and 64 to storage.
Will that partitioning persist after I have upgraded to WM6? Ever since I installed WM6 my device is very very slow and it is because there's less than 3 MB of RAM left available. Here's what my machine says about its memory:
The ABOUT menu shows "Memory: 61.28MB"
The Hardware tab in Device Information shows RAM 128 MB, Flash 32MB, Storage Size 30.53MB
And when I go to Start > System > Settings > Memory, it shows Storage Total: 30.53 and Program Total 61.25MB
I am a little confused about what all these different types of memories mean. If anyone can clarify, i would really appreciate it. Also is there a way to increase the storage memory because with the total 30.53, 27 MB is always in use and with the remaining 4 MB, the device is painfully slow.

Click to collapse
If you have used DOC partitioning tool, you have 30.53 MB of storage ROM. The rest of ROM is your system and radio stack.
Your RAM is divided into 3 parts: program memory (actual RAM), RAM disk and page pool. They sum up to 128 MB. So, for example, if you have 32 MB of a RAM disk and a 32 MB page pool, you have 64 MB of a program memory left.
So from the numbers I see on my device, does everything seem good or is there anything I can do to further improve memory performance/allocation so that the things will be faster?
Do you have a RAMdisk enabled?
You know, there's no simple answer to "what configuration is better". If it were, you wouldn't have a choice It depends on how many programs you have installed, what exactly programs you're running, and so on...
i look in the specification of kaiser in htc site, and it shows 256 rom and 128 ram.
when i look in my memory section at my device i saw
storag 153m and program 101mb
can anybody tell me what is missing, im using the originall rom.
am l anderstaning it wrong or there's another reason
The devices OS and applications take up the space not listed in this case 103 and 27 MB, respectively. The missing space is being occupied or used by the installed OS and applications. The space you see is what is left and available for you to use. If you were to erase everything and look at the space then you would see truer values (not that you can).
So whats the difference between ROM memory and RAM memory?
When I install a program on my device (not storage card), am I utilizing space from ROM or RAM?
And is storage ROM or RAM and program is ROM or RAM?
Thanks
Assuming the same terms appy with my TyTN II as with full sized PCs, ROM = Read Only Memory and RAM = Random Access Memory. ROM is Non-Volatile (ie data is not lost when the power is switched off) where as RAM is volatile (why you get a message saying data may be lost if you continue to run down your battery when it's very low. ROM is generally (much) slower for read and write speed than RAM (hence why RAM is used).
In the case of the TyTN II ROM is what is known as flash memory (because it can be overwritten using a process called flashing). It can also be written to in more general use such as when installing programs so I prefer the term Flash rather than ROM because it's not strictly read only in this case.
When the programs are installed into main memory (rather than a card) they will be stored on ROM (so it's not lost when the power is removed) but will be in RAM as well when the PPCs CPU is working with the program.
If the OP nndd12 looks in Start =>Settings => System tab => Device Information => Hardware Tab the RAM and ROM details are in there but the ROM is termed Flash.
Is it possible to adjust your program memory using the device memory, like on wm2003?
Nope
That feature is not available with WM 5 and up
That adjustment was there because file storage was done in RAM, and the slider would let you choose how much of that RAM to allocate to storage and running programs. Since WM5, storage is done in the Flash memory, so all the RAM is always dedicated to running programs. No point for it then.
alright thank you!
I'll just wait for a different rom with more program memory then.
program mem is static one cant add more by rom other then
move ram from pagepool to app memory
and doing that kill application io performance
pagepool was interduced when flash storage was
to counter the issue that flash storage was much much slower
then old sd ram storage
hello, i brought a tsm 500 (qtek 2020) in 2006.
At the time it had the original windows 2003 SE installed on it. I installed WM05 and i lost an important program.
In settings/memory i had an option to transfer memory from program memory to storage memory in order to increase the storage memory.
For example I have only 15MB of storage memory available and 64 MB of program memory.
After installing all kind of applications (on the SD card) my storage memory has critically decreased to 1.6 MB but I have 25 MB of program memory free.
Do you know what application I'm talking about?
It allows you to transfer memory from storage memory to program memory and reverse.
Two things
1 - this is in the wrong forum, you obviously have a Himalaya, not an Alpine.
2 - i think the application in question is specific to WM2003. WM5 handles it's memory differently, i think.
I have read a lot of info about memory, but somehow i don't seem to grasp the whole concept.
Here is what i understand so far about the internal memory.
part of it is Ram (wm calls is program memory)and the other part is rom (storage memory). Since i have an tp2 I am suppose to have the following Memory ROM: 512 MB RAM: 288 MB. I understand that part of the rom memory is taken bij processes and memory reservation. 1) My question is is the size of the custom cooked rom take from my rom ram or any other place (I mean if i have a bigger rom flashed, will it eat from my rom. or ram or neither? 2) my second question is if i stuff my rom with programs or files will it slow down the performance of my phone?(put in a different form should i install as much programs as possible in my internal memory or should i keep some space free?)
3) does anyone know the read/write speed of my rom memory. since i have a very fast microsd card (sandisk 8gb class 4) I was wondering if it might be close to the same speed or not?
4) if i have a cooked rom with sense, but sense is not running will it still take more program memory?
5) I remember a post that showed how to sync with my micro sd card (my documents of pc and wm) but i can't seem to find it anyone?
thanks in advance!
-some short answers, RAM is where running programs and their data is loaded/stored/executed - so only running programs use it.
Class 4 is very acceptable to exec programs from, I'll try Class6 shortly, never did compare to iunternal memory, but the bottom line is that it's OK to run programs from SDHC.
-remember SDHC gets unmounted if you choose to connect over USB as "disk drive"
Thanks Alcapone,
I have tested a class6 and some class 4 or trenscend, but my sandisk class 4 was much quicker, so i would love to see a class 6 from sandisk but others i would prefer my sandisk class 4.
Let me refrase my questions.
If i flash a lite rom, or a fully stocked rom wil it take away from my availible ram or rom or neither? (not talking about running programs just installed)
And about the post i can't find, if i remember correctly i should be able to active sync, but instead of my documents going to main memory, they would go to my documents on the memory card.
thanks for the quick reply.
