Firm(er) release date, 10-6 (!?) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

As much as I hate to spread about another speculative release date avega1027 said on page 11 of another thread:
"Well for the people that are waiting for the release it looks like it would be comming out 10-06-07, per http://mobilitytoday.com/news/att_re...es_change.html "
and FTA: "Our sources are telling us that some new Windows Mobile devices are on their way! Just got a new update this morning, the AT&T 8925 aka Tilt is has passed certification and it being released on October 5.
Also Blackjack WM6 will be ready on the 1st of Oct.
Motorola Q9 is now slated for launch 11/15 but we think this will be changing soon. Blackjack 2 is slated for an 11/12 release.."
Supposedly, mobility today's David Ciccone is usually a pretty credible source so maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel at last! Since it was so far down on another thread I figured i'd give it some attention. Thanks avega1027!
Who knows if it's right, but I'm excited to hear something from someone with sources rather than hearsay from an AT&T employee.

I have already given up on all these dates. I will just wait and not get excited about any more rumor dates.

Yeah, I agree... I'm getting really frustrated not to have any iron-clad word on it. But, since this was the first decent lead I've seen in quite a while I figured it's noteworthy.

already a thread for this and wasting space....

Will the video driver issue be fixed?

Just curious. What's your thoughts? Will either HTC or Qualcom fix the video driver with the Kaiser? As the end of March approaches with no fix from HTC, it's starting to look grim......
I voted yes, but it isn't that clear cut...
HTC/Qualcom will release a driver for another device which will be ported to the kaiser.
ETA? late fall/early 2009.
so technically HTC/Qualcom is going to fix it, but indirectly...which can probably considered not fixing it...
anyways, i ramble, and the topic is redundant, therefore i bid it farewell before an admin closes it.
yeah I think you need to change the title to "will the driver issue be fixed by HTC"
The fix is going to come, but only when the good people @xda extract it from some device that'll be realeased in the forseeable future.
What do you think is the touchscreen bug going to be fixed with it?
I would hope they do but one can only dream... By then I will be using the X1. Wait, made by HTC also... Forget it.....

I hear you. I got excited about the X1 as well...until I saw that it's made by HTC. Although won't it be Sony who controls what software is on it? Still though, I won't hold my breath.....
It will, but probably a lot later than we expect. We'll probably have to wait for someone to get on it, or for a release of a similar device with drivers, so we can rip them out of it.
I'd say a year or so..
is it up to us?
Just wondering, is it up to our opinions or wishful thinking, if the driver issue will be fixed?
Cheers...

Exactly
No fix for our device. but maybe something which will port over, sometime after we've all upgraded to something else which wont work properly....
I love technology!
neither will fix it because they already have your money - they didnt just drop the ball, they put it down carefully and walked off.
my magic 8 ball says a definate maybe.
Who knows? They might...they might. Eitherway, everyone here is going to get another, better phone im 6 months.
I think once that SE X1 phone is released using the qualcomm chip, its bound to be fixed, idk how they think they can manage to get a smoothe UI and playback without the drivers. they will be included in some future 7xxx device.
I voted "Not a chance" because there was no option for "I don't care."
I put not a chance. Given the number of tweakers here....this group will, for the most part, never be satisfied with the response from HTC.
The driver will come about 2 weeks after everyone has upgraded the next latest and greatest thing, just in time for it to not be needed....................
HTC already released the fix. But Steve Jobs began ddosing their website and forced them to take it offline.
I voted no.
I wish my tilt's camera functioned like the N95 lol...wait then it would be the perfect phone...
I believe that even if HTC doesn't resolve it, someone else will. Having said that, nothing I've used my Tilt for has been impacted by this issue, so I probably wouldn't notice the difference that a new driver would make.
Not a chance.
Logically why would they? The promised a "fix" and it achieved 100% of its goals in that everyone shutup and went away to wait.
btw: Notice the choice of the "end of March". Far enough to waste time - not too far to make people crack on with the lawsuit.
It doesn't exist and never will. Straight out of the microsoft school of vapourware that one.
March will go and maybe april. Someone MIGHT say something. They will apologise, blame some "technical problem" and say the fix will be "soon". Another few months will go by and then everyone will have new phones and voila the problem goes away.
Time is NOT on our side. These products have a VERY finite shelf-life and HTC knows this. I'm sure it is one of the reasons they rushed it out sans-drivers in the first place. We are already talking about a device that is 6 months old.
First adopters are half-way through a 12 month contract!
So: As you may guess I voted for not a chance. And now apathy has got me and I would say I don't care. Never buying HTC again though!
There are existing threads on this subject. USE THEM.
This thread is in any case adding nothing to our understanding, as it's based on guess work - sadly.
We all want a conclusion on this issue but starting another thread is not helping us, but is just another opportunity to fight amongst ourselves.

Windows Mobile 6.5 coming

Saw this on my yahoo home page. Thought I'd pass it along. This means the genius cooks here on XDA should have something official to tear up and improve!
Windows Mobile 6.5 "Launching" May 11th?
Here's a mystery for you. In a blog post dated April 6th on Microsoft's developer site, Microsoft says there's going to be a "kick-off launch presentation of Windows Mobile 6.5 on Monday, May 11th at 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm." This notice went unnoticed until today, when Engadget and Electronista picked it up, reporting it as fresh news. (It's fresh news as in, we all missed it, but it isn't fresh as in, the post seems to be two weeks old.) The launch will be part of Microsoft's TechEd 2009 conference in Los Angeles.
When I called Microsoft PR, though, they weren't quite sure what this presentation was. After all, Windows Mobile 6.5 was announced in February, and the PR guy I spoke to said that consumer availability would not be announced on May 11th. Anyway, consumer availability is up to Microsoft's device and carrier partners, not Microsoft itself.
Here's Microsoft's official statement on the event: "We're excited about TechEd as an opportunity to talk to business customers and developers about the software for the next generation of Windows phones. There will be several sessions we think will help people learn more to get their planning ideas started about the new phones coming to market in the 2H of 2009."
My best guess is that the May 11th event is the launch of the final Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK, so developers can write programs tailored to the new OS release. TechEd is a developers' conference, the SDK hasn't come out yet, and we're getting within a few months of launch. Microsoft is going to want at least a few 6.5-compatible apps in that Windows Mobile Marketplace.
WM 6.5 Already Leaked!
I havent been keeping up on the forums again until yesterday, and i too was excited to hear about WM 6.5...and to my suprise (well i guess i should have expected it) WM 6.5 has already leaked and some of our favorite cooks have already torn a tiny bit into it (cough cough ivanmmj ;D awesome ROM as always!) Just to give everyone who hasent already gotten JustcHome on their old Wing a heads up!

Froyo for Milestone OFFICIALLY HAS A GO!

We're pleased to announce that Milestone will receive a free upgrade to Android 2.2
(FroYo) in Europe with an initial roll-out
beginning at the end of this year. For
other software updates please check our software update site:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades
Source: http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope
LOL....end of 2010?...silly....
ginggerbread 2.3 phone is everywhere at that time..lol
I can be wrong but beginning of the end of the year means Q4 (quater 4, the last three months of the year), that would be the beginning of October, wouldn't it? . But it doesn't matter now. Motorola doesn't care about the European market and they think they can mock us. Let them think that way. They probably do not give damn about 100 people not buying their phones now, but if the number of customers steadily goes down they will be like "OMFG WHY THEY ARE NOT BUYING OUR GREAT PRODUCTS??!?!?!". I think Milestone was the only GOOD phone ever released by Motorola, but after that signed bootloader and this delayed 2.2 release I'm saying "No, thanks" and I'm going to get something from HTC or muster up some money and buy Nexus One now.
Please discuss in existing thread:

Any update on froyo from b&n?

The rumor was end of January. Has anyone heard a new timeframe?
sent from my NC
Im not sure where everyone is getting the January Time line from, I remember Originally seeing the time frame as being set at "near the end of Q1" which would mean late March or early April. I don't recall any official source saying January.
Granted this is still not official, but the nice lady at the nook kiosk in B&N told me June when I asked her. She also told me it was capable of playing 450p video but not 780P haha.

If you search Engaget for "Nook Color" you will find an article saying the 2.2 update w/ B&N market was due out in January. This story ran mid December and was also reported by numerous other tech related sites. I started a thread a few days ago asking the same question but got no solid answers on the time frame for release.
And if you do a little more searching, you'll find out the original article has been thoroughly debunked and everybody else "monkey-posted" from the original incorrect source.
Q1 2011 is all B&N has ever indicated.
Searching this forum for "froyo" would have turned up this thread from less than a week ago.

Android Q

Anyone seen some hope about Q upgrade for Nokia 8?
There is a chance, until they say otherwise. Right now, let's just wait for full Android Q release to see, if it's even worth waiting. Then we'll ask questions about an update. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to move on. HMD never really cared about flagships.
No chance, HMD said 2 major letter upgrades and it has had them with O and P.
Only way the Nokia 8 will ever see Q is if HMD do it as way of an apology for how they have messed Pie up.
Too early to tell.
Like it was said above, they promised 2 OS version updates, and we've got them. So they don't really owe us anything. But until they categorically say the Nokia 8 misses out... There's always a chance...

TBH you're right.
They never really care about this so called flagship.
The first Pie updates were bugged because HMD has to update 30+ phones, and they don't have time to do it properly - because that would delay things beyond the point where people start screaming blood and murder why the update for their device isn't the next one in the queue, and why device xy gets the update before them.
So basically, either we would get
Another half assed update that was rushed out over the weekend to satisfy customers
An update half a year later while this and every other nokia 8 forum gets filled with "where is our Q update" again
Both of the above
And tbh. I would rather take HMD finally EOL'ing it's 2017 devices over every of the options I listed above, so people can just get on with their lives and not expect anything from HMD. If they push out a Q update to our phones that actually works I would be positively suprised, but please don't expect it - especially not if you are talking about HMD, a marketing startup, that outsources phone development to Foxconn, who don't want to work with you anymore because you have them make and support too many phones.
Excuse my salt in this, but don't make yourself hope, you will be disappointed.
Don't expect more, they have forget their flagship

Yes, they had 30+ phones to update, just like everyone else. But everyone else have a priority in flagships, except for HMD. They updated mid-range devices before their flagship and they needed 5 months to fix some major bugs. You can clearly see what their priority is.
And no, they don't need to release a half baked update, they simply need to communicate. A simple statement saying "we found a major bug, that's why we're not updating your phone until it's fixed" would do just fine. Release it 2 months later, but with no big issues and we're fine, no one will complain.
People are constantly asking "where is my update" because they are not saying a word about it. We don't need promises, or even dates, we simply need info and we're not getting any.
Forget it. I'd rather get a custom rom for Pie than wait forever for a half-assed Q update from HMD. I just wish they release the updated Android Pie firmware and kernel sources with their final update this coming November, that way if there ever comes a dev interested enough in this phone they actually have something reasonable to work with.
