Froyo for Milestone OFFICIALLY HAS A GO! - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

We're pleased to announce that Milestone will receive a free upgrade to Android 2.2
(FroYo) in Europe with an initial roll-out
beginning at the end of this year. For
other software updates please check our software update site:

LOL....end of 2010?...silly....
ginggerbread 2.3 phone is everywhere at that time..lol

I can be wrong but beginning of the end of the year means Q4 (quater 4, the last three months of the year), that would be the beginning of October, wouldn't it? . But it doesn't matter now. Motorola doesn't care about the European market and they think they can mock us. Let them think that way. They probably do not give damn about 100 people not buying their phones now, but if the number of customers steadily goes down they will be like "OMFG WHY THEY ARE NOT BUYING OUR GREAT PRODUCTS??!?!?!". I think Milestone was the only GOOD phone ever released by Motorola, but after that signed bootloader and this delayed 2.2 release I'm saying "No, thanks" and I'm going to get something from HTC or muster up some money and buy Nexus One now.

Please discuss in existing thread:

Firm(er) release date, 10-6 (!?)

As much as I hate to spread about another speculative release date avega1027 said on page 11 of another thread:
"Well for the people that are waiting for the release it looks like it would be comming out 10-06-07, per http://mobilitytoday.com/news/att_re...es_change.html "
and FTA: "Our sources are telling us that some new Windows Mobile devices are on their way! Just got a new update this morning, the AT&T 8925 aka Tilt is has passed certification and it being released on October 5.
Also Blackjack WM6 will be ready on the 1st of Oct.
Motorola Q9 is now slated for launch 11/15 but we think this will be changing soon. Blackjack 2 is slated for an 11/12 release.."
Supposedly, mobility today's David Ciccone is usually a pretty credible source so maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel at last! Since it was so far down on another thread I figured i'd give it some attention. Thanks avega1027!
Who knows if it's right, but I'm excited to hear something from someone with sources rather than hearsay from an AT&T employee.
I have already given up on all these dates. I will just wait and not get excited about any more rumor dates.
Yeah, I agree... I'm getting really frustrated not to have any iron-clad word on it. But, since this was the first decent lead I've seen in quite a while I figured it's noteworthy.
already a thread for this and wasting space....

How far is the 2.2 Update ?

Hello!
Is any date of 2.2 release ? Or ?
Nothing so far. It's been said that the Motorola Droid's 2.2 update was pushed back to August. So, I'd bet sometime around then--hopefully.

Next European Milestone and 2.2 (Froyo). I have expressed over the last few days that the decision is pending. The team here has been collating key pieces of information and views from this community in the last month and providing input to relevant teams in Motorola so they are aware. I am pushing for that decision to be made as quickly as possible, and we can then all go from there. Some others ask why the decisions on upgrades take so long, and why does implementation then take much longer still. What I can say and have stated recently is that upgrades are not a walk in the park. Sure there are short cuts that people can take, but when you have to integrate software to a specific hardware, then test it and integrate with third party applications, let alone any innovation from ourselves, plus then get approvals to make this all official and safeā€¦ its is a big undertaking that requires planning and resource and third party coordination to see this all through. As I say, once we have decision, we will inform. JK

[Milestone] Motorola is gonna release 2.2 in Q1 2011 for Europe.

guys, moto have changed their plan. they are gonna release froyo only in early Q1 2011

Straight from Facebook:
"Motorola Europe Hello all. We continue to work closely with our operator and carrier partners on the FroYo Android 2.2 upgrade for Milestone in Europe to ensure we deliver the best experience possible. We understand users are eagerly awaiting this upgrade and we expect to deliver it in several European markets in the early Q1 timeframe. Please visit https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades for more."
Of course they'd delay it. Dammit Moto!

In Q1 2011 says Motorola Q2 2011, in Q2 2011 then Q3 2011 ... and we never get Android 2.2 on Milestone

No Lollipop for Turbo?

I've been a long time reader of this forum, since blackberry pearl was the newest hottest phone, but until now have yet to register. I got my turbo a week after release, and i love it...i read all these articles who's getting lollipop and when....If motorola is updating all their old phones from 2012, and us with their flagship phone have yet to get it, and there releasing phones this month with 5.0 on them to INDIA of all places, guys Turbo prolly isnt going to see it for awhile if ever...This phone IMO was like verizons ellipsis tablet, released with one update and no further information lol yeah we all want a bug free OS, but to do a 3 year old phone and not your flagship phone?
( i know no periods)

What the hell do u mean, INDIA of all places? O.O
Motorola gets a really good share of profits only cuz of its sales of Moto G and Moto E in India! And please oh please... I hope u are not being racist!
And there are so many threads discussing this man.. If u said you actually having been reading XDA regularly u would have known better not to clutter the General Forum... What can people at XDA do about this? How can posting here help? Only Motorola can help, contact their customer care or through social media for your answer!!

These threads are tiring.
In that VoLTE is natively supported in 5.1, did you not consider that may be why there was a hold up, because Verizon wanted that?
I'll bet you 1,000.00 dollars we get Lollipop. Are you game? Post your paypal if so. I could use the money from an easily won bet
Edit: And yeah, that India comment was misplaced.
Yeah looks like its confirmed that the 5.1 HD Voice does mean it works with Verzion VoLTE (I wasn't sure based on the screenshot they had). Seems very possible when Motorola learned about this they held off on their 5.01 or whatever with HD Voice added in to just release the version with the code in it already. Which is a good thing. Because had they released 5.0.1 or whatever a couple of weeks ago, you would have people whining for 5.1. Hopefully this means it will hit the Turbo in a short time.
I made a post about the Nexus 6 coming to Verizon with 5.1 already on it and suggested that the DT might be jumping straight to 5.1 around the time the Nexus 6 drops on Verizon. My hit or miss post doesn't seem so irrelevant now. lol

Indeed.
Congrats on your first post FAIL. How could you think the turbo wouldn't get another update that's ludicrous.

Agreed. The phone is still fairly new and considered a current flagship phone for Motorola (Next to the Nexus 6 but that's Google's baby as well so I don't think it can count as Motorola's flagship entirely). Getting back to my point, saying that a flagship phone is not going to get an update to "the latest and greatest in android" is just asking for someone to talk badly about you and even more so a cry for attention. Which is something we don't need.
What I mean by India is a third world country of all places before here where it launched. I hope I am wrong but like my tablet I went into Verizon was was talked to by a salesman to go with this newest device it's a flagship device so I did and the updates are where? I left the Galaxy line with no issues great reception speedy updates... My tablet was the same thing a verizon exclusive updated once and forgotten.
What I'm saying is why update stuff that's old when after two years most people upgrade? My flagship store, I'm there daily to make sure it's running good, clean and people want to come back the old store has a customer base like the old phones they update them when it's time to update them things.

Don't worry about it. It's just kinda tense here sometimes, and we're all kinda surly and curmudgeonly because we seem to be kept in the dark regarding just about everything related to this device. Everyone has or had certain expectations from it and the support that we were expecting by Motorola and/or Verizon, and it's nowhere near as exciting as we'd hoped.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. I was offended by the "third world country" comment and I'm an Italian American! ?
Not much of an apology...
Anyway I gave up wanting lollipop I am hoping Verizon and Motorola scrap the droid and unlock the bootloader

It's obvious we will get lollipop and now that 5.1 was released looks like that's what Motorola was waiting for and or the nexus 6 coming soon to vzw. Patience is a virtue and now that we have about 5 months now without lollipop then let's keep waiting. Better having a less bugs version than getting a rushed update of 5.0.1 or 5.0.2

Android Q

Anyone seen some hope about Q upgrade for Nokia 8?
There is a chance, until they say otherwise. Right now, let's just wait for full Android Q release to see, if it's even worth waiting. Then we'll ask questions about an update. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to move on. HMD never really cared about flagships.
No chance, HMD said 2 major letter upgrades and it has had them with O and P.
Only way the Nokia 8 will ever see Q is if HMD do it as way of an apology for how they have messed Pie up.
Too early to tell.
Like it was said above, they promised 2 OS version updates, and we've got them. So they don't really owe us anything. But until they categorically say the Nokia 8 misses out... There's always a chance...

TBH you're right.
They never really care about this so called flagship.
The first Pie updates were bugged because HMD has to update 30+ phones, and they don't have time to do it properly - because that would delay things beyond the point where people start screaming blood and murder why the update for their device isn't the next one in the queue, and why device xy gets the update before them.
So basically, either we would get
Another half assed update that was rushed out over the weekend to satisfy customers
An update half a year later while this and every other nokia 8 forum gets filled with "where is our Q update" again
Both of the above
And tbh. I would rather take HMD finally EOL'ing it's 2017 devices over every of the options I listed above, so people can just get on with their lives and not expect anything from HMD. If they push out a Q update to our phones that actually works I would be positively suprised, but please don't expect it - especially not if you are talking about HMD, a marketing startup, that outsources phone development to Foxconn, who don't want to work with you anymore because you have them make and support too many phones.
Excuse my salt in this, but don't make yourself hope, you will be disappointed.
Don't expect more, they have forget their flagship

Yes, they had 30+ phones to update, just like everyone else. But everyone else have a priority in flagships, except for HMD. They updated mid-range devices before their flagship and they needed 5 months to fix some major bugs. You can clearly see what their priority is.
And no, they don't need to release a half baked update, they simply need to communicate. A simple statement saying "we found a major bug, that's why we're not updating your phone until it's fixed" would do just fine. Release it 2 months later, but with no big issues and we're fine, no one will complain.
People are constantly asking "where is my update" because they are not saying a word about it. We don't need promises, or even dates, we simply need info and we're not getting any.
Forget it. I'd rather get a custom rom for Pie than wait forever for a half-assed Q update from HMD. I just wish they release the updated Android Pie firmware and kernel sources with their final update this coming November, that way if there ever comes a dev interested enough in this phone they actually have something reasonable to work with.
