Greetings,
My Kaiser arrived without Tom Tom 6 installed. I found the software on these forums, installed it and GPS is working fine. However, after installation my Today screen disappears completely. Even after going into settings and adding items nothing appears on the screen except battery, signal strength etc on the top bar.
A hard reset solves the problem but only until Tom Tom is installed again. Any idea what could be the problem?
Hmm, I remembered that I got this issue before, but I just did soft-reset and then fine again.
Maybe try to arrange the plugin up and down. Put the Tomtom in the bottom.

I tried doing above but no success. It appears that its not only after Tom Tom installation, but any time i try to configure Today Screen it simply disappears. This also happens after running any program e.g skype or google earth.
Anybody help?
Sounds like a defective unit since I have only heard of this happening to yours sorry to say.

All,
I recently flashed over to the HTC ROM. Since that time, I have had TomTom hangup on me after I fully charged the battery. Partial charges seem fine, but whenever the battery is fully charged and I do a softreset Tom Tom will start up and hang on the startup screen at that point my phone is useless and won't respond unless I take out the SD card.
So I have two questions:
1) First, what is the regedit I can do to stop TT from automatically starting on reset?
2) I am currently running TT Nav 6.010-ish... I am planning on updating using the cab files I have seen on here to 6.032. After updating, do you think that will solve my problems with TT hanging up??
Thanks for the read.
Hello,
I've got a little problem, I've installed TomTom 6.032 on my Kaiser. After successful instalation it shows up in Programs and Today screen but that Today screen's TomTom icon doesn't work, it only makes a sound when I click on it and nothing else happend. From Programs it can be started normally. I'd be glad for any suggestions. Thanx
Yesterday i tried loading GarminXT and it froze. Did a soft reboot and tried again and again it froze. I then tried tomtom, which loaded ok, but could not find any satellite. I was on open sight waiting for 30 minutes. I also tried MioMap and automatically scanned port..."no GPS found it" says. I have then put it manually and the red LED went on...but still, not satellites are found. Red light blinks normally, i just don't get any data.
GPS worked just fine before that happened. I also noticed device to be very slow if i ran any gps program. Any idea what when't wrong? I just did a hard reset few days ago and i only have fistful of applications running.
edit: I aso tried GPSTest and it keeps scanning. When it comes to com4, red light blinks, but that's all. It's looping this scanning procedure. If i set com4 manually it just says Looking for GPS unit
tnx
did you use quickgps first before launching any gps application?
Hi!
I had exactly the same problem a week ago (with iGO, TomTom and GPS Tuner). I've got advice to remove battery for hours (I did it for 8 hours) but did not help.
Finally I found a program on xda-developers or GPS Passion which is developed for maintaning Qualcomm GPS (GPSTool). I do not remember the thread but you can find something like this: GPSTool0813.
When you downloaded that exe copy it to \windows. Execute it. Select sirf. Then select yes (if device is Qualcomm) then select COM4 and Cold Start. Push Start button.
I hope this helps.
i did your procedure, but it didn't help. Even gpstool could not get any satelllite. it did show some data, quickly scrolling, but thats all.
maybe i did something wrong. how long does it have to run?
tnx
i just found out that i, too, am having problems getting a fix on my gps. i opened gogle map and gps tool this morning on my new att tilt but i cant get a lock. i have 4-5 satellites available but can't get a fix...
Any more ideas? I tried BT gps and it worked fine. Got fix in few sec.
tnx
Same thing happened to me and a hard reset fixed it.
ok, tnx. Wil try hard reset today and report.
iv just downloaded the latest tomtom, and its put a badge/icon on my today screen. AFAIK it doesnt actually do anything, it cant be clicked on or selected, and as a result id like to get rid of it.
iv tried going through the Tomtom settings, checking the today\items and deleting it from the registry under software\microsoft\todays\items but none of it gets rid of it.
Does anyone have a way of doing it?
cheers
You need to *uncheck* the Tomtom box in the today screen options and that icon will then only be accessible from the start menu. Thats what I did with my TyTN II and it works perfectly. If the box is checked you'll get that icon on the today screen.
BTW, if you're using the recently released HTC WM 6.1 update with HTCs Navigator 6.032 are you finding GPS performance to be much worse than before the upgrade (slow fixes and wild fluctuations in GPS reception bars even when stationary)?
thanks for the reply, ill give it a go.
Im a new tom tom & 6.1 user (just flashed one of duttys), so dont have any previous experience to compare it with, sorry.
I'm finding the Tom Tom (and other GPS apps) to be worse after the upgrade unfortunately - it's the only fault I can find with the new ROM. The problem for me is just the first fix after any soft reset - it always takes an age (up 10-15 minutes) which I'm sure wasn't the case before.
Subsequent fixes (after closing and later re-opening TT or another GPS program) are always much quicker, within 30 seconds even, so obviously once it's been initialised once it's fine, until the next soft reset when you're back to square one.

do you download the quickgps data after the soft reset, i believe that doesnt save when you do a soft reset, and the first lock you get from GPS, will be remembered and make it easier for the future connections.
I never have a problem with GPS connections, only tomtom and its poorly slow application refresh.
AFAIK it downloads in the background on a regular basis still, whenever I'm plugged into the PC at work (which is most of the working day) - whenever I check it, it always claims to be up to date, anyway. But I agree the behaviour is as if that data isn't there anymore... peculiar.

Then you're lucky! Mine now locks up regularly (2 or 3 times a day) and it never used to before the up?grade.

Although this part also applies to me, even after getting a fix, if I shut it down while I'm moving and start it up again after a couple of minutes its still much slower than it used to be in the same locations under WM 6.0
I'll email HTC and Tomtom about it as it's clear there's now a problem.

If you ever used HardSPL (or possibly even if you didn't) you probably need to flash the new HTC SPL - see the thread over in ROM development. It cured all the freezing issues for me.

I'm pretty sure it's an HTC issue, since I have the same problems using GPS in MS Live Search too. Unfortunately there's not much point in me emailing them, because mine is officially Vodafone branded and they don't support it.

Thanks for the tip. I'm the old school sort who believes the hardware provider should be responsible for fixing things, hence why I'll write when I get the time but I may try this later if I get annoyed enough! I've never installed HardSPL and this official HTC upgrade was the first flash I've subjected my TyTN II to.

In the end the buck stops with HTC and as they are responsible for my phone, I'll remember other branded users are also depending on a fix from them when I write.
Google Navigation is constantly giving me the "Searching for GPS..." message. Even when I use other navigation programs I still get the same message and the same blinking GPS icon in my status bar.
I have tried a number of things:
Flashed a new ROM (went from Cyan's latest to Dwang)
Reflashed the radio
Flashed the Danger SPL
Flashed Amon RAs Recovery
Nothing worked
There was a time when it worked, but that was a few months ago and I don't remember when it stopped working.
Just so you know I have tried it outdoors on a clear day, and I have reinstalled Maps many times.
If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Try downloading the GPS status app from the market and see how many satellites your receiver can see. it needs atleast 4 for a good lock, at minumum 3. If your receiver can't see any, it may be defective

It cant see any.
Could something like flashing a ROM cause the GPS to become defective?
not likely. are you inside a building when doing this? I seem to recall way back when I first got my G1 in the preorder that we were told to properly calibrate the GPS by going outside, turning the GPS on, setting the phone down for 5-10 mins somewhere that had a clear 360 degree view of the sky and let it go to work. I did exactly that. Over a year later and it takes my GPS less than 10 seconds to drop to a 3m radius, unless I happen to be in a building, and even then its pretty good (I can generally get a 20m lock inside thick buildings like shopping malls, etc).
So give that a shot and see if it calibrates.
Well I left the phone outside for a solid half hour, and it still isnt finding any satellites. Any other ideas?
*EDIT*
I realized what is wrong. A few months ago i PEELED OFF THE GPS ANTENNA!! I just thought it was pointless tape on the back and it was already starting to loose its adhesive, so I just pulled it off. I feel like a grade-A moron.
Is there any other material I can substitute, or any way I can repair this?
