How to get GPS working? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Google maps can't detect it, and Windows Live doesn't do anything. I'm able to download the info with QuickGPS. I have not messed around with any of the settings btw.
Thanks!

same here....just upgraded to HTC rom, and Google Maps can't detect the receiver it was working on ATT rom before

I am also having problems with GPS.
VisualGPSce says that there r 9 satellites in view, however 0 in use. Google Maps also cannot connect to GPS.
Any help is appriciated

It works for me
Could you all clarify what rom your using? It works just fine for me with Windows Live, Pocket Streets, Google Maps.

I am on Tilt using the stock ROM with HTC Home plugin

I had GPS working but after testing, lost GPS
I've been using free.3dtracking.net and google maps mobile with the tilt or 8925 for 1 Day.. Looks like a over heating problem with the GPS unit inside.. not sure but it is getting pretty hot.

What?
I wouldn't think heat would be from the GPS, rather it would be from the battery and heavy use.
As for those who's GPS doesn't work, have you tinkered with the GPS settings. Not sure if the configuration utlity would control the on board GPS but I notice MS PS communicates on comm 4 and that is what the GPS receiver is set up on also.

i am using HTC Rom OS 5.2.1620 build 18125.0.4.2

i did a hard reset and GPS is now working.....

I am running a Tilt on the stock ROM at this time and had no problem getting the GPS to work...use VisualGPSce (yes it says its for like WM 2003 but it works just fine) and go outside for about 1 minute...after doing so Google Maps should have no problem.

I'm using the the rom that came with the Tilt. I try that VisualGPSse but I get a error message saying "Could not initialize communication buffer size"
I have not change any of the gps settings at all.

SEARCH the Kaiser forum there are TONS of posts on this even a HOW TO guide! I would suggest installing TomTom since it seems that it always gets the GPS going.

dont be scuurred
i installed tomtom and i didnt pay attention and messed with the settings (att tilt btw). what i did to make it detect the gps was
clicked the tomtom screen
-> change preferences
-> show gps status (on preferences page 3 of 5)
-> configure
-> other nmea gps receiver
set baud rate to 38400
-> done
-> com4
voila

HTC Touch Diamond - GPS doesn't work!!!!

Hi,
I've just got my HTC Touch Diamond, and I can't get it to find ANY satellites in either Google Maps or TomTom Navigator 6. It has worked on a couple of occasions - both programs have been able to locate satellites, but only once or twice, and only after about 30-40 minutes searching.
I've got a Touch Cruise as well, and the one thing that always worked very well on it is the GPS, particularly with TomTom. Within a few seconds, the Cruise ALWAYS finds at least a couple of satellites, even indoors. The Diamond never seems to be able to find any, even when I stood on top of a hill in open ground for 45 minutes yesterday!
I'm guessing it's a configuration problem or conflict of some kind, given the fact that it HAS found 4-8 satellites a couple of times. The GPS settings in Windows are precisely the same as on my Cruise (COM4 and 4800 baud), the QuickGPS is up-to date, and Assisted GPS is active according to Advanced Config.
One thing I did notice is that TomTom Navigator 6.03 doesn't give me the option to select 'Built-In GPS Reciever' on the Diamond (my Cruise TomTom is set to 'Built-In GPS Reciever). I have to select 'Other NMEA GPS Receiver' and set 4800 baud and COM4. It DOES seem to find the GPS device, but it doesn't find any satellites (except once or twice). I thought this might be the source of the problem, until I tried Google Maps and found that that couldn't find any satellites either. Running the Cruise and Diamond side-by-side, the Cruise finds a good number of satellites in just a few seconds, whereas the Diamond is still searching for its first after an hour!
Has anyone else had this problem on the Diamond, or with WM 6.1? Does anyone have any clue how I might be able to resolve it? Right now, I'm feeling that I've been suckered into buying yet another HTC device that simply doesn't work properly. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob.
P.S. I can't get SRS WOW to work on the Diamond either. All sound output just disappears completely, and when I launch the SRS WOW application it says that no driver is installed. No amount of soft-resetting has resolved it, and in the end I had to uninstall SRS to get my system sound back. Does anybody know how I can get SRS WOW onto the Touch Diamond?

ROM: 1.37.405.1 WWE (10/06/2008)
Radio: 1.00.25.03

doesn't the diamond have tomtom 7 built in or something? try the tomtom 7 cab floating around if you don't have it.
Why not post this in the diamond forum.
Or, even better, read the FAQ, search like it says, then get here http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...d+gps&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

YEAH THE GPS ON DIAMOND DON't WORK!!
Yeah, I was so excited buying my diamond.. I always keep accessories brand new so incase I resell for any reason..so the first time I charged it up w/ a usb cord and it died in a couple of hours. I thought it needed to be charged from its own charger. So I took out the charger that came w/ it, charged it fully and it died again in 3-4 hours of using it. I was super angry. So, finally I am lookin around for the gps ( navigation ) software, only to soon realize that there is none. So, I put in the application cd that comes w/ the phone to find out that there isnt any apps on it. Anyway I install an old version of google maps on the phone that I used w/ my palm treo and realized it only picked me up w/ in 1100 meters of where I was at. I thought it was the old google and the new one would of had better gps locationing, but now that I read your blog and find out that this phone really sucks for real, I am super angry!! I just paid $799 for this crap! I should of stayed w/ my big e90. I even registered a name on this site just to tell you I agree, I will keep bugging HTC until they send me something new and fix it. They can atleast send me that cool dock they have on their website. And how did u get the tom tom for it?????????? Koda
Works with Tomtom 6
The GPS on my diamond works with Tomtom 6. Select "Other NMEA GPS receiver", Baud rate 4800, Com4. It even gets GPS signal inside my apartment, better than my stand alone GPS.
Edit: Just tested with google maps, GPS works well.
Htc Touch Diamond Gps
ISN' THe phone suppose to have built in GPS? As in the NOkia e and N series?
Gps Does Work
I Did Not Have Gps Selected In Pll Up Menu
I finally got it working
I've been having the exact same problem with Tom Tom 7. It would either say "No GPS device!" or it would have terrible signal so I couldn't get a lock. The solution was to Turn off assisted GPS and reset the diamond. Now i get a lock in 10 to 15 seconds when indoors!
And on a personal note, I just wanna say a HUGE thanks to everyone who posts on this forum and the guys who run this (even the guys posting problems and not solutions) it's been a huge help (and good reading) ever since i stubled onto this site.
Thanks, Aaron
HI,
were can I Turn off assisted GPS?
In TomTom 7 do you use internal GPS antenna? Or NMEA?
Guys,i have tried every single way on this page to get a GPS signle on my HTC Diamond but it always says "NO GPS Device" on Tomtom 7 or "No GPS reciever" on Google Maps, ...etc.
And there is no QuickGPS utility or Assisted GPS in my setting, programs, or setup CDs. There is only the External GPS on the Settings-System.
I am afraid that the GPS is actually closed or disabled somehow.
Please if someone has found a solution or knows how to unlock the headset's GPS, post a reply.
I really like tha phone but feel like a sucker because of the GPS thing.
same problem no gps
Have the same problem - baut i have the quick gps program - tried everything but not even after 30 minutes it finds a satelite
Mine never gets a signal inside, but outside it seems fine. Try something like this an go stand outside for a bit
I'm in the same boat as you Europeart.
And it's very frustrating!!!!!
Have a T-Mobile Compact IV with the Tomtom 7 package I found on this forum. I didn't get any voices but after downloading and installing the free map it can't find the internal GPS. I thought this rip was for the diamond, so it should work exactly the same!?
Added to the Google Maps will only triangulate my nearabout position with the use of cell phone towers. I can't find anything to play with the GPS and I've never managed to pick up any satellites even with that little app that downloads their positions.
Has anyone figured this one out?
quickgps
after trying everything I tried to make a hard reset thrue the menu (delete memory - en español borrar memoria) - pero me ha borrado la memoria incorporada (4GB) y no la memoria del movil ni un hard reset. With volume down - enter (round button) and soft reset with the pen (red button in penhole) pressing some seconds until you see a white display I got it - but I had to install everything - contacts, too.
But now it works - first time took 2-3 minutes, second time only 3 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!
great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope it don't change again - somebody knows?
thanks everybody for help inhere

More than one Navigation software!!!
Hi,
I had troubles with HTC Diamond GPS where I had to Hard Reset the phone to get the GPS working.
There is a suspicion on GPS problems with HTC Diamond!!
I have 2 navigation software, TomTom 7 and IGO, and of course the built-in Google Map. However, earlier when I had problems, I used to open tomtom try it, close the problem, and open IGO, play with it and close it.
The GPS then stopped working. I hard-reset the phone, and installed again both software but used only one, IGO and opened Google Maps but didn't use the GPS.
However, today, I opened Google Maps, used GPS and closed it. Now I am trying to open IGO and use the GPS but stopped working. Having the problem again.
Can anybody please confirm my suspicion on the problem which is that you cannot use more than one navigation program on HTC Diamond as somehow it hangs on the internal GPS and maybe blocks it?
Did anybody try it??
Following
Or maybe only between IGO 8 and TomTom 7 when the GPS hangs!

Hi,
I've just bought an HTC TD too, being the impatient, rather than the academic, type I registered with TomTom and went straight to their support page (shortest distance between two points etc...). There you will find the instructions to configure TomTom/Diamond GPS settings 'Configuring the built-in GPS receiver on your HTC device..'
It works.
I see that, if you haven't done so yet, you need to go to the HTC site and update to the latest ROM too - gives you quad band and a speedup. You have to register there too!
NoData is a useful program.

Hope this helped.
I had the same problem...
A-GPS on, with TomTom 7: no fix. When I turned A-GPS off everything was fine.
I would like to know wether A-GPS should be supported by the nav-software in order to work, or that A-GPS isn't well implemented in the Touch Diamond.
Does anybody have a clue about that?
**** EDIT ****
I got this from another forum:
it will work if you set the baud rate in TT to 2400. Otherwise turn agps off and it works at the regular setting. Haven't really notices a difference in performance one way or another.

Intermittent GPS

Hi all, yesterday i've changed the "external gps settings":
COM8 For virtual GPS port and COM 4 as Hardware GPS port, baud 9600.
Today i was using my GPS the first time after the settings descripted before...
The GPS Works, but at regular intervals of 2 sec, then stops for 10 sec (No GPS Found with Tomtom) and works again.....
Now i have 3 questions:
1) Can i solve this WITHOUT an Hard Reset??
2) If i disable the Virtual com port, tomtom DON'T let me choose another COMport (it skips the Comport configuration page) and, when it allows me to select the right port, the COM4 isn't there
3) There are A LOT of comport into "External GPS Settings", some starting with COM..X and others ports named GPD..X ..... What type of ports are??
(Ps: i have already installed tomtom again)
Did you try to disable AGPS?
I have only seen this problem when AGPS is enabled (via advanced config) too
Also the defualt GPS COM ports is 4 and baud rate of 4800 (should be no need to change this) and why mess with external GPS settings when the device has internal GPS?
I have same problem on iGO8 with AGPS enabled.
You guys are right! The A-GPS was ON (strange, i don't remember i've activated it)
If i play with the external gps app is because i would to share the same com port to 2 gps apps.....
BTW when i set the com4 in Hardware port, reopening the app it disappear.
Now i have Agps disabled, External gps app "void" and tomtom don't let me choose the comport (it switch from baud speed to mainscreen)
Hmm, I had no problem at all using GPS at standard settings for:
Igo
TrackMe
GoogleMaps
at the same time!

diamond has disabled agps out of the box.
Hmmm I had no problems the first couple of times I tried iGo when I first got the device. Then I tweaked it, enabled AGPS and all hell broke loose (presumably due to this setting, though not 100% sure since I changed lots of things). Disabled it on my own, trying to back-track, now it's better but I still got problems with GPS lost...
By the way, is there any use setting COM4 to high speeds? Does it reall improve performance?
I had the same problem after flashing the actual rom build from HTC club. I am currently sticking to this one in italian and no problem at all.
P.S.: Just noticed you're from my same city
All ok now, i suppose that if we leave blank the GPS port (no HW port) into first COM screen of external gps app, tomtom skip the comport settings screen, and don't allow you to choose another one.
I've Hardresetted my pda yesterday, and i've seen that out of the box, the diamond has COM4 selected by default.
I don't want to change anything now (i have no time in those days to do another Hard reset) BUT, if you have problems regarding the GPS COM Settings screen in tomtom, try to set the COM4 into GPS PORT (not hardware port) of the "External Gps" app.
hello everyone
i have the same problem of signal GPS lost and coming back after a few minutes of use (i use IGO 8), then lose again, then back again, and so on.
I installed the new flash rom from HTC eclub, (QMR-RUU_Diamond_HTC_FRA_1.93.406.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe)
Even if i disable the a-gps using advance config, the problem is still there.
Do you think that problem comes from that new HTC ROM ?
Any solutions?
NO... I had the same problem on old ROM very rarely and solved with Quick GPS , I will see if the problem persist on new ROM...
I had this disconnecting problem too with Tomtom 7,
now with Bepe 0.98 and radio Radio v1.00.25.07, all is OK, no disconnect at all this morning ( 2 hours of GPS use ).
But I don't know what resolve the problem, Bepe's ROM or the new .07 radio

Never mind the setting. Is AGPS disabled?
yes its disabled...
A bit strange, mine works perfectly with iGo, it even updates the position (almost) continuously when in pedestrian mode.
Perhaps you could try an auto detect from your GPS program to reset the link. By the way, what soft are you using?
well im using garmin xt and navigon...garmin display that the program and hardware is com:4
thank u for being patient with me....
I know Garmin works on the Diamond, so I'm running out of ideas... I remember reading that some VOIP programs screw the GPS. Did you install any such program?
If not, what I would do is back up my contacts and calendar and do a hard reset to see if this solves the problem. A bit painful, but will certainly answer the question whether there is something wrong with your hardware or not.
well.. i have changed the rom to karmba version, and it works fine for the last 6 hours..
gps functioning well.
may be the fault was in my previous rom (SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v5-5-Lite)
thank you very much for your help

Diamond - TomTom - suddenly stops working during journey!!

Hi
I have a HTC Diamond (t-Mobile, but with the HTC stock rom rather than the T-Mobile OS)
Using TomTom (TomTom 2003)
Used to use it on previous Windows Mobile phone with HTC rom without issue
It works until i go on a motorway, and then it suddenly doesnt know where it is
The blue car icon just floats off into the greenery, and that is that
Any ideas?
Thanks
what on earth is TomTom 2003?! Maybe go for TT6 or TT7.
Sounds like your description of the problem is not very accurate. -> it is working i.e. not crashing out, but your GPS may be losing position / fix.
How do you mean "blue car icon just floats off into the greenery"
Help us to help you with more detail!
PS did you download the Quick GPS Fix data, and did you get a proper lock before commencing driving?
I have found once or twice that the Diamond doesn't quite know where it is (a few metres out, just enough to lose the "snap-to" the correct road).
Restarting TomTom or the phone fixed it.
I know motorways dont move but your map data for other roads could be out of date if your using 2003. I had to disable assisted GPS (using advanced config) and stopped using the Quick GPS program on my diamond because the GPS stopped working in any application after about 5 minutes. Now I dont have any problems with the GPS using TT7 or Memory Map.
Using Dutty 2.5 and 05 radio by the way
never had a problem with Quick GPS Fix.....As far as I know I have not disabled advanced GPS.
I have a standard Orange 1.37.405 unlocked ROM and 25.03 radio.
Using a 5 year old mapping product is probably not the greatest idea (I found some road errors even in TT7.)
What kind of devices were you running TT2003 on?!?! I would think that an update is in order....
LOL....bit like running Win3.1 applications on a Windows Vista machine...er, perhaps it might not work correctly
Hello,
I have the same problem with TomTom6. Last week I had a trip about 100 km on german motorway. After ca. 45 minutes wihtout any problem TomTom screen becomes gray for a minute. No gps-signal. A minuter later screen return to color an gps seems to be fixed again. But then: It doesn´t track correct - recognized, when blue arrow leaves street. After a while TomTom hang up fully.
Only manual restart and softreset are a solution.
Wht maybe the reason for this (no a-gps activated, but qucik gps).

How to Test Xperia GPS?

Hi,
I bought my Xperia 1 day ago, it's really good device. But I'm having some problems with GPS. Google maps starts to scanning for satellites for ages and never stops. I also tried the "Chartcross Gps Test" program and it finds the gps but it's always on "GPS Starting up" status.
Does anybody nows how to test it ? Or if there is something that i have to enable first? (all the configs are default - like in a hard reset)
It should work straight out the box. Try the quick GPS download in the Programs>tools folder. Downloads the locations of the satalites for the next week to the phone. Since using this, tomtom7 can find my loction in seconds (literrally)
Have you been trying it inside a building? In that case it won't work. I had the same thing with the GPS. In a building there is no connection to satelites, works perfectly though outside and from within a car.
Tomorrow I try google maps.
However I use tomtom. Befor all download effimeral with quick gps.
First of Xperia I have a Polaris. Xperia gps is much better than polaris. And polaris has a very good gps....
Tomtom7
Where did u get the Tomtom7 software for the xperia. A friend of my using his tomtom device and it works really fine! So on my X1 it would be really great if i can use it too!
I don't rememder now, but you can use Diamond tt7. It work fine.
ah thank you! but i can't find the file. could you post me the link for download pls
To test GPS use GPS Test from ChartCross. It's a great, free utility.
http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
thank you! ....
Now it's working fine. I have to test it with tomtom later, but with google maps is Ok now. I followed buckle247 and Dryw Filtiarn tips. Now it finds the satellites very quick.
Just one question, google maps requires internet connection and how about TomTom?
One thing that i noticed is that the GPS sometimes doesn't "turn on", because either Chartcross or GoogleMaps can't find the GPS device, however if i turn off and turn on Xperia it finds. Is it normal?
kotarou TomTom doesn't need to run over GPRS as the maps are all stored on the Memory Card, however if you subscribe to traffic data then that will need a GPRS connection.
Also every so often I get the "No GPS Device" sometimes just leaving the phone for a minute makes it appear, other times a soft reset.
Cannot install GpsTest
Hi, I tried to install GpsTest on Windows Vista, but it doesn't work, since GpsTest installer requires ActiveSync. But Activesync refuses to install on Windows Vista, because there is another SmartPhone software.
Does anyone know another versione of GpsTest, compatible with Vista, or a version installable directly on the X1?
Thanx!

Found a fix
If your 3G data is switched off, then you won't be charged for anything. GPS won't charge you as it is tracking signals from satellites, much like a Sat Nav.

GPS will not find location

got my pro the other day... and I have garmin loaded up, and its not finding a signal so I have spent most of my day reading all posts I can find relating to the GPS, I have used the GPS viewer and it finds the GPS and once it starts I can see it will not acquire my location I could leave it for 15 mins or so and it wont lock on, google maps will not work, nor with garmin, I have tried changing the ports from 4 to 1 and others but nothing seems to work.
does any one else have this issue, and have they over come it if so how i want to use my GPS...
thanks
set your band rate to 9600
still no good.
tried the GPS viewer google maps and Garmin again...
I have similar problem and what I did is to flash new radio. Currently, I am using 1.02.25.28 radio and seems like the GPS works fine now. It can lock on less then 1 minute in one space but the signal strength is vary from low to high quite fast (not stable).
I tried to navigate with this radio and turned out to be better than the original radio shipped with the unit. But, even with this radio, my old Kaiser GPS still performs better. When I use Kaiser, GPS lock in less than 10 seconds in open space.
BTW, the GPS software is Garmin Mobile XT.

your explanation doesn't make sense at all
when i go to phone/services there is no such thing as location setting.
it lists my phone services such as call barring, caller Id, etc...
i'm using Chartcross GPS test 1.04 and set my com to 4 baud to 38400 and it is not working. Google Maps says no gps found.
i am on a stock AT&T Fuze rom... just got the phone yesterday
I also installed HTC GPS tool and those symbols and number mean nothing to me.
no real manual on how to use it unless you're technically saavy and have programming background
i also disabled AGPS like it is recommended all over this site.

yeah I find this to be the fastest fix. I run gpstoday, open port for gps using gpstoolpro take the step to set up gpstoday once your fix is established I set up my gpstoday app to search every 5 minute rather then staying connected due to battery. When I am ready to use my gps I load up quickGPS have it a establish a fix( average of 15 sec I have been testing it for a week and have gotten good results instants fix to a 15 second wait).once I establish a fix I load up my navigation app. a tip is to be outside or near a window when trying to find a fix. Keeping the port open does not drain the battery.
