I'm having problems with the softkeys, specially the left one it usually bounces and repeat the keystroke.
Has this happened to anyone?
similar problems here. little bit irritating.
Sometimes, too. More than that I have to push it few times to make it "click"
This was my last HTC
Same here! Weird.
I have this problem too. And also my camera have one horizontal line that changes color, on preview and on pictures. I tried to contact HTC in UK because i bought my phone there (i live in Croatia). But no response.
Same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem in my phone bougt this christmas. Left and right from joistick, and both softkeys work very very bad. Sometimes I have to press hard to obtain some response and others only one press makes two or three movements. This is very anoying while selecting pictures or using the calendar.
I'm searching for the invoice to take it to the technical service.
Best regards,
same problem here, can you please tell me wich rom you are using, the HTC rom or WM 6.1. I'm using 6.1 ROm and am wondering if the problem is ROM related or a hardware issue
Hardware, I kept the phone as it came in the box.

Ive just sent my phone off to HTC to be looked at (hopefully repaired under warranty). I've had the same stress cracks a lot of people seem to be having. And also the problem of multiple button presses randomly, lost count of the number of blank sms replies i sent because of it.
I'll let you know if I notice any improvement when i get the phone back or if they mention it at all.
problem
I sent 2 time my s730 to repair service for this problem. Finally they change the keyboard. The problem is reduced but not really solved.
I'm not sure it is a HW problem.
My phone is going back to HTC on monday...
1) single keypress jumps the menu twice
2) cracks in the side where the screws start
3) phone is very slow
The guy on the helpdesk asked me if I had ever upgraded my phone... so I had to tell him that it is HTC policy to not make any new updates for phones, they just bring out new phones... no reaction whatsoever...
I have been running a older version of Dutty's Kaiser ROM for some time with great results, however, I have noticed that my hardware keyboard is slower than it should be. I can press a button and either get no response or two characters typed. Anyone else experience this and know what causes it?
thanks ahead of time,
Levi
Use Disable T9 cab
I also had more performance with different radios and spls
There is a recen thread on this
do you know where the recent thread is? or where the disable T9 cab is located? i did a forum search but turned up too many hits and after reading the first page of hits i gave up.
The problem has escalated!
you know I tried that disable T9/XT9 cabs and tricks, but they didn't help. I investigated further as to why my hardware keyboard doesn't respond correctly. I think that I have found that is is strictly a hardware related issue. Only a few of the buttons on my device have this problem, and their not really slow, they just don't type each every time I press them. I also found that the harder I pressed those problem buttons, the more likely it was to actually type them. I might end up trying another ROM and hard resetting the device but if not, I may try taking the device apart and cleaning the keyboard, I suppose I have just typed it to death! If all else fails unless anyone else has suggestions, time for a new phone. Anyone else have this problem with the Kaiser, and another thing. Have a kaiser?, look at the front of it and inspect the shiny button cluster. Does your button cluster move about the opening sort of loosely jiggling around? hmmm........ mine does!

this is a known issue with alot of ROMs that are made from the AT&T OEM rom.

I second both observations.
On my keyboard, it's the R and H buttons that are unresponsive. As to the shiny button cluster, mine moves too. But not as much as my friend's TYTN II does.

You may want to check your key repeat speed and delays in settings->buttons. I had mine set to lowest delay and highest speed. I tried to double the delay, and reduce the speed to less than half. My keys seems to work a little better now (but i've just been testing for a few minutes).
jiggly buttons
my hardware buttons jiggle around a lot. they still work fine, but yes I believe they are just jiggly by poor deisgn.
I have an AT&T tilt and I just upgraded it to the WM6.1 ROM from the HTC webpage and since then I have noticed that when I turn of the screen, all of a sudden it just lights up for a sec and turns off again, without any reason, is there a way to fix this, do i have to flash it again? what do I have to do?
i have the same issue, seems like after i flashed it happened.. any ideas?
one cool feature is that when it flickers, if u press the screen constantly, it flickers.. like a strobe light.. lol
I have the same problem. It's annoying because I think I'm getting a text or call. and usually I don't receive texts, i have to see it light up then press the mail button to see if I have a new text. ARGH.
My Tilt does the same thing. It's a whiteish-gay light. It'll come on for short bursts or I'll notice it on in the middle of the night, and who knows how long it's on until I notice it.
I had upgraded to WM6.1 a while back, and didn't have any issues, but had to hard reset my Tilt and it has been doing it since.
It doesn't do it all the time, either. Weird.
Mine Does The Same Thing
I hope there is a fix some time for this ..
I'm glad i am not the only one, but havent found a fix yet
I seem to remember there being an issue with screen flicker when the Tilt first came out, I think it was related to having Telnav selected in the today screen items tab. Try removing the checks one item at a time from the items tab, I doubt it will be as simple as a software conflict but it could be worth trying.
I had an issue with SPB Pocket Plus on my today screen, once I moved it in to a tab on SPB Shell the issue disappeared.
Fixxed?
I dont know if it just stopped doing it, I am not paying attention anymore or if one of the many things I did finally worked, but the truth is i havent seen it do it again, Thanks to everybody
It been happening on my Tilt since I got it last month.
This is happening on my tilt too... only after upgrading to 6.1. Glad to see it is not just me, but very concerning that this is a problem directly in the 6.1 TILT rom.
Bump........
Any body have any luck on this? I continue to have this problem.
Adding my voice and another symptom
is anyone else having this problem:
1. lock the tilt by tapping 'device unlocked'
2. tap the power button.
3. the backlight comes on, no picture but instead of flashing it stays on draining the battery
4. tap the power button to turn the tilt back on
5. tap the power button to turn tilt back off again
6. tilt stays off.
the issue did not change with the backlight hotfix.
Maybe try another ROM
Finally, i found others with this stupid glitch
I thought it was a hardware error, so i had AT&T send me a warranty/replacement, and guess what... comes out of the box and STILL DOES IT! Has anyone with this problem tried installing a DIFFERENT ROM, like one from the XDA forums? I'm about to try that, because i am fed up with this. I will report if it works. ARG!
Sorry for the ranting. but in a way, i'm relieved. that there are others with this problem
... It might pay to just go back to Windows Mobile 6.0.....
-=ZYXTIA=-
Different ROM fixed problem, but just had more problems after. Sorry guys.
Me Too...
I am glad that I have found other people with the same issue as me. I thought it was just my phone, as I do a lot of backups and restores after I do something stupid with my phone and I also use a lot of beta/unstable software, and figured it was caused by these. However, it only happened after I upgraded to 6.1 stock ROM. Maybe somebody can figure out exactly why this happens, and then we can come up with a fix. I am just happy that I'm no longer alone with this issue
-Dave
I'm very pleased to know that it isn't just me experiencing this stupid backlight issue.
It started happening the second I upgraded to WM6.1
Funny thing is, it only happens to me if I Lock the phone (keys) and turn off the screen. If I just turn off the screen without locking, the backlight stays off.
It would be really great if someone could come up with a fix for this that doesnt require me to reflash my phone with some cooked up rom
has anyone tried this hotfix?

i'm experiencing the same problem, will try it and post back as soon as i can
edit: didn't work. got some error about it couldnt remove the old customization tool or something like that
Running the AT&T 6.1 ROM and silly thing turns on by itself at 12 midnight. No connection to anything as I leave it in Flight Mode. Only goes off after I hit the Power Button. Drains the battery down to about half by the time I leave for work at 7AM.
Really is annoying!
Possible Solution
If you are still under warranty, call up AT&T warranty replacement (Customer service is 1-800-331-0500, and just ask for warranty department), and tell them you have this problem. TELL THEM YOU THINK IT IS A HARDWARE ISSUE, and they will send you a replacement, refurbished Tilt. The next one will also have WM6.1 on it, and do the same thing. HOWEVER, it is AT&T policy that after two replacements, instead of getting another one the third time, they give you a refurb of a DIFFERENT MODEL. That is how i got the AT&T FUZE (a.k.a. the HTC Touch Pro, a.k.a the "Raphael"). It doesn't have that problem. But otherwise, i have no other suggestions. i'm just sick of having AT&T screw up the phone's software, and then try to pass it off as quality.
Mine comes on exactly at midnight!
Annoying as hell...and the light from it wakes me up from across the room.

Ok, search is supposed to be my friend, but it hasn't worked out this time. I am having problems with the operation of Transcriber on my US 3G Diamond. Revriles posted a request for help on this in the "Diamond Support Center" thread, but he didn't get any response from anyone. Here's his description of the problem:
The transcriber on my Diamond doesn't work properly all the time. From what I can gather it appears as though once the percentage figure for memory use (I think thats what it is - the percentage you see when you click on the drop down arrow in the top right hand corner of today screen) goes over around 40% (which it does fairly quickly on my device after you have turned it off or soft reset it) I experience the problem. To describe the problem I have to write really slowly for it to etch on the screen but then it doesn't recognize text properly. Really annoying. I rang HTC but they didn't even call me back. Can't find evidence of anyone else having same prob on net. Please help?
I have tried a whole range of numbers in the registry for "Finger Pressure" and "Pressure Threshold," from "1" to over 80,000. That didn't help. I've killed apps to try to free-up memory, including killing TF3D. And I've used Advanced Config Tool to set all of the system performance settings (caching) to the "recommended" values. At best it will perform well for a short time, but it always ends up getting "laggy." the strokes start falling behind the stylus motion and some strokes are missed altogether, even though I am very careful to use consistent pressure with the stylus.
By the way, I have the same problem when using letter recognizer: it will start missing strokes and therefore insert incorrect letters.
Any ideas for a solution?? Thanks.
I've been running hyper dragon III on my tilt for the past few years. A couple of days ago my tilt started acting flakey, pulling up sms, email, contact lists, and dialing random numbers ,44924444466634444.......repeating like a stuck key. I reset but to not avail. I took out the battery and reset again, no luck. I figured it was time to replace my venerable hyper dragon with a shiny new Rom. I chose a clean wm6.5 Rom, ahmedfikry wm6.5 23569 Tilt 3D UC light Rom V2 . It seemed to work... at first. I was excited with the speed, the response, of this new interface and smugly back patting myself ... when the buggy behavior returned; hmm, I thought, a bad flash?, so I went back to the wiki, reformatted SD card, reset, rebooted... no joy! It can't be viral...can it, or worse some malignant kaiser killer cancer; can it? Insights, ideas, recommendations? Please be kind, I'm very vulnerable right now....
UPS just delivered my brand new seidio extended tilt battery! It came a day early, oh joy! Murphy strikes again... : )
if it is starting programs that are linked DIRECTLY to hardware buttons, i would suspect your kaiser's buttons or the cables from the buttons have gone faulty (hardware problem).
everything you say seems to point to things that are linked with buttons...there is a button for sms/email, all the numbers have buttons (on the keyboard) and even the contact list is sometimes mapped to one of the soft keys on some screens (e.g. the "All Contacts" button on the contacts page of manila).
so perhaps your buttons are the problem...they might be "sticking" or a cable or set of cables might have come loose or they might have cracked.
the only other possibility i can think of is that your screen protector might need changing. even worse, your touch screen may have gone faulty (hardware problem). you can try realigning the screen but i doubt that will help if the issue is sporadic.
finally, you might want to see if something physical triggers the issue. maybe holding it your left hand upside down? maybe slide open the top? or maybe more frequent when the keyboard is hidden? or try to apply pressure near the buttons or near the frame of the screen to see if that makes the issues more frequent?
good luck!
ASCIIker thanks for your insightful reply.
I fear you to be correct. I did not think to correlate the type of programs and their use of hardware buttons. I did however disassemble my sick little baby last night after posting. I went looking for pocket gunk or loose connections. I had replaced the LCD about a year ago and while it work fine after that, a loose screw wasn't impossible. Too my never ending surprise it booted up upon reassembly, but to my disappointment it began to exhibit the same freaky symptoms. I decided to do a Rom flash, but now was unable to get to my tricolor screen! After about 20 attempts, I gave up turned it off and put in my new battery. A long charge later, I turned it on to drain and train the battery expecting it to resume its schizoid activity...but no! I find a lovely 6.5 win-mo screen an a well behaved phone. I'm determined to solve this conundrum. I would like to say it was the principle of the thing, but really I'm driven by my ocd nature reinforced by cheapo habits. ASCIIker, do you think if I disconnect the 'd pad' connector I might be able to confirm your hypo? I sure I can get it to repeat its bad behavior if just spend some time reloading and setting preferences. Once I get it perfect its sure to fritz out! Either way thanks again.
