Yesterday and today I have had a little issue. When I turn it on it boots up fine and when it gets to the htc screen it dims and when it is fully booted the backlight is pretty dim and the slideout does not make a sound nor does the screen change orientation?? I try to turn it off and the hour glass just spins and I have to remove the battery. I have tried soft reset with no results, but if I do a sync it clears it up and all works great?? I have not tried a hard reset thought I would check with you guys first for any ideas???? Thanks
d
if you've installed 3rd-party apps, i'd remove one at a time to see if they could be causing the problem... if that doesn't work, then a hard reset may be the best route. good luck!
Thanks I will give that a shot. Must be something at startup.

i had the same problem after tomtom frozed up my device. soft resets just resulted in nothing working but it also boots fine when i'm connected to my computer using activesync. i used the backup program that came with with phone and went back a week and that seemed to solved the problem.
Thanks I wish I had of tried that but I finally did a hard reset and that worked. I also left tomtom off for a bit and see how it goes. The only thing different is I traveled one time zone and when I returned all the trouble started. My computer also switched time zone when I synced???? Wierd....

I have had the same problem with my vodafone V1615, was working fine, first hing that seemed to happen to me was i plugged in the wired head set and the screen switched off and would not come back on. Did a normal reset and came back on but power button would not switch the phone off or on. TomTom and Sprite backup both would not work along with other programs.
Tried several soft resets all exactly same, boot up but wont run and power button not working, also the screen stays dim.
Only thing other than the head set was i plugged it in to TomTom Home but did not download anything, i did try a backup using it but that failed.
Anyone else managed to clear this without hard resetting as my only backup is just after i got the phone before i installed the full UK maps so a real pain in the ass.
Mark
I tried removing all third party stuff one at a time and soft resetting and still the same problem you have. Once I did the hard reset it was fine...Pain in the A.. wish I knew what the glitch was????

Here is my problem, how it happened (I think) is below.
Right now the unit boots up fine, and all of the buttons work well, the only problem is that it is not accepting any sytlus input. When I touch the screen, nothing happens. I can use the buttons to navigate (to an extent) however the touch screen input is dead. The display is fine.
What I have tried:
The other odd thing is that I can no longer hard (cold) boot. I have tried repeatedly and it will only soft boot.
I have tried upgrading to a newer version of WM (5.03.02) which seemed to take fine, however I can't hard boot, so it really didn't completely upgrade.
I have a hard boot software installed on the device, however I cannot seem to figure out a way to access the start menu without the stylus.
I have left the battery off the unit for 3 days, and still wouldn't hard boot.
What I think happened:
I was using 2005 for a few weeks, and it was working fine. I left the unit in my bag for about a week, and the battery drained completely down to the point that I was unable to turn the unit on. I put it in the charger, and it came back to life, however the today screen was not where I keep it, although it was also not quite at the default either (somewhere in between). That was when I noticed the stylus wouldn't work.
My guess is that the input driver got hosed somehow. It is possible that the screen got damaged, but it was in my hard case, and it would be doubtful, but not impossible.
What I need:
Some way to hard boot the phone.
Some way to access the start menu without the stylus
Other suggestions.
Sorry for the long message, I just wanted to get down as much info as possible.
1.12.00
1337.42
5.03.02 (sort of, loaded, but not hard booted)
Thanks
Found a way to hard boot
In case anyone else runs into the same problem I did above. I was able to hard boot with the following method, which did clear up my screen input problem.
Soft reset, then record + media buttons to take me to the format screen. I changed the second two to yes and hit the mail button. It hard booted and seems to be ok so far.
Hi. I am a new owner of the AT&T Tilt, so I was messing around with a few cool new features. I installed the HTC Home Plugin and the HTC Default Theme, which looked really nice. After I installed these, things began going crazy. When I had them installed, the screen would not turn back on after going blank, so I would have to remove the battery and then reboot it again. When it loaded back up, I tried to manually power it off via the power button on the side. INstead of powering off, it would freeze. Sucks, I know...
So I finally decided to remove both the plugin and the default screen, as I figured it would send things back to normal. It didn't. When it was all removed, I tried to slide the phone open, but the screen did not automatically switch to landscape view. So I tried to power it off, and it acted as if it was continually loading something and refused to turn off.
This is very furstrating... Do any of you all know what to do?
Thanks.

Try a soft reset and if that doesn't work, back up any data you don't want to lose and then try a hard reset. This will bring you back to factory settings but you lose all your data and added programs.
I have both those things on my Tilt and have not had that happen. Any other third party software it could be reacting with?
Not that I know of. I installed TomTom6 on there, but I had that for several hours prior to putting the two other programs on there and it worked just fine. Is there a way to do a hard reset before the phone turns on fully? Because once it turns on, I am very limited as to what I can do...
Yes.
Put your stylus into the reset hole (just above and to the right of the USB port) and hold both soft keys at the same time (next to the green and red phone buttons).
Hm.. Strange thing happened. I simply held the two soft keys at start up and it seems to have reset the whole thing. Did I do this correctly or should I redo it?

hmm i don't think so you did a hard reset than buddy. Hard reset is holding the two soft keys and than inserting stylus into soft reset hole on bottom of phone. Doing this brings you to a white screen with a warning in blue that basically tells you all data will be erased to proceed hit the send button .. and once you hit send (green button) than it starts the hard reset and once it finishes it asks you to hit the send button again to reboot the phone.
Yeah. STrangely enough, it didn't warn me of any of that. It simply took a while to boot up from the AT&T screen and when it did, all of the stuff that I had installed was gone...
Another question..
Okay, so after about seven attempts, I finally got the hard reset to work properly. Now that everything is back to it's manufacture settings, I would like to update the plain jane look of it. I know this may sound utterly stupid, but can anyone tell me exactly how to install the HTC Plugin along with the HTC Default theme and Customizer? (If links can be provided as to the correct download site, it would be greatly appreciated as well.)
The last time I thought I installed these correctly, my phone went crazy...
Thanks guys.
P.S. TomTom 6 would not have an affect on my phone.. would it?
Thanks again!
no tomtom6 will not affect your phone, I have used it for months with HTC home plugin, didn't have an issue with my tilt. I hope that helps. I don't quite understand what you want to do with the customizer maybe someone else can help ya with that.
Good luck on your new phone.

Go here, down load HTC Home plugin and Home Customizer again.
Remember to soft reset after installing (no soft keys just stylus in the reset hole) Go to start>settings>today>items, check HTC Home. And you should be good to go.
If not , now you know how to hard reset and start again.

Alright! Thanks a lot!
I'll keep you informed as to how it goes! Thanks again!
Ah! Thanks! It works flawlessly now!
Juuust kidding...
I don't know what it is, but it worked just fine for a while.
Now, whenever I tap the power button on the side to turn the screen off, I can not get it to turn back on.
Why?
Okay, so my phone is going crazy and it's really aggravating me! It worked fine for two days, but all of a sudden, when I tried to add a picture to my contacts, my phone began to frustrate the crap out of me!
So this is what happens.. When I hit the power button on the side to black out the screen or when it simply times out, the phone pretty much remains on, but I can not get the screen back on. Other times, when I boot the phone the backlight will fail to turn on and the phone won't even switch to landscape when I slide the phone open..
WHY?!?! I have the HTC Plugin installed with HTC Customizer and TomTom 6.. What is the deal?!
That does seem pretty strange. You weren't messing with the registry at all before that happened? Did you try soft reseting the device? (you probably did) If you have been adding and deleting a lot of cabs, apps and such lately then you may have to hard reset and start clean. If you do have to, don't forget to copy your pim.vol file over to your card for replacement after reset. Hopefully it won't come to a hard reset though. Good Luck, Kevin
Ah. I've already hard reset the phone twice...
I don't understand it.. It seems really quite ridiculous.. Could it be a hardware problem?

what did you do *before* your diamond stopped turning on?? unless you had a completely unpredicted system meltdown of your diamond for injecting it with super high voltage. it is rare for it to not power off unless you did something ... so please elaborate so we can assist better.
Ok, yesterday i use the phone like anothe normal day, in the night i turn off the phone, and in the morning, when i tried to turn on, i have this problem, for example, when a tried to do a soft, hard reset, the screen is in black, when a conect the phone to the usb the screen is black, is, i left the phone alone, in 3 minutes the black screen again, i don´t know why.
any LED activity when plugged into USB?
I think it is a major manufacture problem
I had the same problem, taking out the battery waiting a while and inserting it back, will solve the problem for some time but it will happen again.
Finally I sent it to the HTC support center.
I don't understand why HTC didn't recall.
If you'll search this forum you'll see the same problem in different stages, some times it's a blank screen but the phone will ring and some are just freeze.
Hi, I've had my Diamond for about a month soon and it started earlier this week by not wanting to come on at all. Been taking out the battery for a few days but eventually got fed up and did a hardware reset tonight. Not long after that it just suddenly turned itself off and I couldn't get it back on again. I thought I'd pack it back into the box it came in and send it back tomorrow and took out the sim card. After that it came to life again.
Happened to get a call after that and that call was suddenly disconnected without any reason.
So I am not very happy with this phone at the moment. Would appreciate any advice or if you know for sure it can't be sorted maybe I should send it back and ask for another one?

Nothing, but one time the pc detect the phone, but later nothing.
No Led activity either on mine when it went dead.
When the Phone goes dead, try cooling the phone down as much as possible, and try starting it up again.....
There is a problem with the HTC Diamond in that it can cook itself (excessive heat), due to the auto over temp function crashing and not switching off the phone..... (That's what I have been told at least...)
I know over around 5 Diamonds so far that have had this issue, where the symptoms slowly get worse...
Have a look at this thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2905775#post2905775
PLEASE P.M. me if you have any of the symptoms described in the thread...
I have been TRYING to get my Diamond fixed under warranty now for 2 months with little success... And I kinda need to know how wide spread this problem is to proceed any further.
could not turn on after blank screen ...
Hello,
I've had the same issue as rmorera, and after I hard reseted the phone all went o.k.. BUT after I reinstalled part of the small apps I use, the phone started to go off again. So, the problem seems to be in the software ...
I believe the cause might be the SRS WOW which I use. I installed the .cab, then the .reg file provided (ufortunatelly I don't remember from which thread I got the files ...). And shortly after, the phone stopped working. I uninstalled the software, and now it works! Could it be that the SRS WoW did this?
I tried to reinstall the SRS WoW and I found that if enabled for "Internal (Stereo)" instead of "Headphones" it gets my phone shut when the WM blanks the screen. If I select the "Headphones" options the issue seems to disappear.
Still, the SRS WoW damages the volume buttons action, but I think this issue is on another thread ...
I've had a quick look round the forums but cant find a definitive answer really...
Last night i got my diamond out, and it was turned off completely (not standby) for some reason. When i turned it back on it got stuck at the green windows screen with the rotating loading icon, which then also stopped. At that point it wouldnt do anything and just stopped with the backlight staying on.
I tried removing the battery, the sim, doing several hard resets, still no joy. Eventually i left it with the green screen on for about an hour, reset it, and eventually it came back on.
Anyone any ideas whats happened? Obviously i'm keen to safeguard this from happening next time (i've only had the phone a week).
I've currently got installed the following...
LEM's Trackme.
Memory Map Pocket Nav
Microsoft .net 3.5 (for trackme)
Naviter Seeyou
PHM registry editor
Gsen
sql server (for trackme)
Sensor lock
tomtom7
diamond hacks
Exchange...
Personally, if I'd only had my device a week, I would be straight in the shop for an exchange... that's assuming you haven't been messing with ROM upgrades, etc!
nope no roms, just apps installed..
it was bought from mobiles.co.uk , so a bit more difficult than just popping back to the shop plus my number is due to transfer to it tommorow, so i'm waiting until after that.
Basically, i was just wondering if the green screen halt is a common occurrence.
Hmm
Does it show the green screen after you hard reset it? Maybe a faulty .cab in your programs (I know it sounds stupid) is crashing at startup. Try a hard reset and installing one by one?
If I were you, I would use the hard-reset the phone and use it as is for about a month. If all goes well, I would gradually add programs one at a time. At least that would tell me if the phone itself is OK and if the problem may be due to 3rd parties apps.
ah okay thanks.. i tried pressing the red reset button under the cover but that didnt do anything (apart from restart the phone). I assume a hard reset is done some other way?
I'va also uninstalled some surplus apps, such as the sql server, trackme and naviter seeyou.
http://www.hardreset.eu/images_hu/htc_touch_diamond_hard_reset_soft_reset_5.jpg
press voldown and the center button, and soft reset at the same time. then you'll hard reset
What you are thinking is a hard reset, is really a soft reset. A hard reset completely erases everything on your phone and restores it to default. A soft reset just restarts the phone (like the restart button on the computer).
**Remember that a hard reset resets everything so back up files if you need to.
