Keyboard messed up after update to WM6 - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I have sussesfully updated my German HTC Herald to WM6 (big thanks to XDA forums and its helpful users), but i got a problem with the keyboard.
The layout of my HTC is German, while the WM6 is English and "blue" keys are almost all messed up. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

over and over again and again

I found this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Changing_Device_Language
but sorry for me being noob, i tried to create a new value named Locate and in the string value i input 0409.
For US layout (QWERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0409 (REG_SZ string)

Doesn't work. When i try to edit that entry, it looks like:
Name: Locate
String: 0409
I must have done something wrong @[email protected]
Could you tell me how to add the entry correctly, since i am totally noob for regs things.

Make sure it says "locale", not "locate". It was probably just a typo, but still...

Still nothing. I softreset after each try.
Can you explain to me what does the (REG_SZ string) mean? Do i have to add it somewhere?

Same issue here.. My Herald has an AZERTY keyboard. The blue keys are correctly set, but not the letters... Is there any way to manually modify the letters position on the OS ? (not sure i'm being clear.. lol) I have also tried a GERMAN keyboard fix in addition to edit the registry as found on related posts, but nothing has changed at all...
at least I haven't screwed it more !

Sorry to jump in with an unrelated question but I was wondering if you could point me to the link(s) that will help me better to understand how to change my VPA Compact II to English. I have a few tools which I got here and I am really not sure if I am going to do some damage or not and thought I would ask. Your post is the only one that directly refers to this VPA and any help would be greatly appreciated.
So far I will:
1. Change some settings with the hex editor?
2. Load ROM: K-JAM_WWE_1010903_106_10110_ship.exe onto the storage card?
3. Reset the device?
4. Drink a beer & try again?
Please notice that they are all questions as I am unsure of the exact process for the whole ordeal.
Thanks and have a great day,
ITTIA

After changing the locale code don't SoftReset device, you should turn Power Off and On.
Anybody know what the locale number is for the US keyboard layout?
Thanks!
Cheers...
For those who would like to know: US layout = 409.
Cheers!
If you don't want to edit the registry manually try using Registry Wizard. It's available for download in the regular Wizard forum and has an option for keyboard layout.

AZERTY keyboard for Qtek 9100 ROM

Hey guys, I have an Orange SPV M3000 with an AZERTY keyboard. but I've flashed it with a Qtek 9100 ROM. Obviously, the keyboard in Qtek ROM is qwerty. Can someone post here a CAB file for azerty keyboard, cause this way it would be much easier for me, as I wouldn't bother remembering that when i want to write "w" i have to press "q" and so on.
Thanks
dimushor, please search the forum before ask something. this topic has been discused many times. however, here's the solution: create new string value called Locale in \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd with value of 040C. that's it! you'll have AZERTY layout.

it doesn't work :x
did you soft reset after making the change? If you didn't.. dur
did you wait a while before performing that soft reset ? (easily checked by checking that registry value - if it's back to the original, you didn't wait (long enough))
for further information:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Changing_Device_Language
( note that "1036" in decimal is the same as "040C" in hexadecimal )
thanks, i managed to do that, thanx to zoki

This does NOT work on my 9100 with the 2.24a Mr. Clean ROM. The value is getting written into the registry but the keyboard layout does not change.
/politby
it works with Mr. Clean's ROM. don't forget: do not soft reset with the stylus. soft reset it with a program.

KEYBOARD FIX for NON-English HERALD hardware keyboard v2

Every Herald user with a non-English keyboard layout is familiar with this problem:
After flashing a custom ROM the hardware keyboard is remapped with an English layout.
On my German Herald I always lose the QWERTZ layout and the Ää,Öö,Üü letters.
A solution was already posted by papamopps some time ago here.
It worked well but after every hardreset or new ROM flash I lost the settings and had to repeat the whole procedure again.
Having some active chefs/cooks among us doesn't make things easier
So I created a CAB with all necessary modifications which does the job for me.
Papamopps and a few others here already tested my CAB and confirmed it working.
Thanks for that.
Installation:
Copy "[your language]_Herald_Keyboard.cab" anywhere on your device and run it.
Setup will start automatically and asks to reboot.
Please restart your PPC!
Note:
The onscreen keyboard will stay unaffected as I didn't had time to solve it.
The backlight of the hardware keyboard changed to 15 seconds of lighting instead of the standard 5 seconds
Requests are welcome:
If you want me to create a CAB for your language please send my the original or modified copy
of your sym.04xx.txt file located in the \Windows\ folder of your Herald.
I will do my best to provide it as soon as possible.
Added languages:

16-12-2008 Italian keyboard fix requested by chopsueyrulez
18-12-2008 Danish keyboard fix requested by @[email protected]
Version 2 of the keyboard fix now includes the spell check in the language you downloaded.
If you prefer the English spell check please install "English_AutoCorrection.cab" after "[your language]_Herald_Keyboard.cab".

Switching the hadrware-keyboard layout from German to English

Hi,
I just installed a german ROM on my english TyTN II, so the hardware keyboard is set to german. I've only found cabs to switch from english to german but not the other way...
I also found that:
changing HKLM|Hardware|DeviceMap|Keybd > CurLang to your CountryID
Click to collapse
But in my registry there is no 'CurLang'-value at that path.
Have I to set value by my self, or is there an other way to switch the layout back?
Maybe someone got an ideae
Greetings Oli
P.S.: I use the "M-Diamond v1.4 Full with SqlCE Mobile 3.5" (WM 6.1) ROM
Hi, welcome to XDA !
This topic has be adressed already. Addtionnaly, it is recommended to post in the thread of your ROM, as this problem could ROM specific .
If you do not have CurLang, you could try to create it (DWORD) and set the Hexadecimal value to 407 (which is the value for German layout).
Then soft reset, worth the try . If it's still not working, try searching around, you may find quickly what you want!
Yea I've been studying the keyboard related posts here before I posted the message. I only found topics that dealt with us-layout->other-layout problems and for that, there are many fixes around.
But right now I found a workaround witch worked in that post.
THIS IS NOT A TILT KEYBOARD FIX SOLUTION but a workaround for people having an original TYTN II with QWERTY hw keyboard and ROM in a differnet language. Below sample is for a German ROM flashed into a US original KAIS130:
There are few registry entries you have to change.
First set:
[HKCU\MUI]
CurLang = 1033 (or HEX 0x409) - IMPORTANT, set this first!!!
Then go to
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts]
and - to be on the save side - go through all SUB KEYS and set all "00000407" values to "00000409" (Do not rename the keys themself!)
there is still one SUBKEY which has your language written as a string:
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\0000 0407]
"Layout Text" = "German"
Change the above entry to "US", soft reset your device - done!
- - -
Just keep in mind: above sample is for a German ROM (407) - if you flashed a different language to an english device, then the "407" will be something corresponding to your language.

Please Help ... How to return to the old keyword version?

Hello to everyone and thanks in advanced for your help ...
I would like to know how can I return to the Windows Mobile Old keyboard ... the one that has handwriting posibility .... I try several roms ... and I like them but I don't like the HTC new keyword ... I really prefer the old version because I think is fast for me writing than tiping ...

This transcriber cab might work for you.
edit: If that doesn't work, or if you'd just like the entire OEM keyboard, here you go.

I never find how to change layout for Microsoft software keyboard but if your rom use EZinput software keyboard, you can change the layout with that:
Go to HKLM\Software\Tegic\et9
Change the value of DefaultLanguage
0109 -> qwerty
010C -> azerty
0107 -> qwertz
There is also 0110 and 010A avalaible but I don't know for which layout it is so you may have to try yourself

I do not know if nordic is supported and maybe there are other value than this ones but it is all that I know now...

Well that's not good. I'll keep my eye out for another OEM Microsoft keyboard, but I'm running out of resources. No guarantees I can find one that'll work for your device though.
