SD Card stuck - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi - I am an absolute newbie to this group so apologies if this has been covered before. I am an ex ETEN x500 user (it broke) and have been playing around with PDA's for a couple of years now.
My Tytn II arrived today and I put my 4GB micro SD in the slot and was very happy to see it was recognised and reported just under 4GB. I decided to copy a couple of movies from my PC card reader and opened the flap and pressed on the top of the card but it would not pop out. Is there a special knack that I am missing? or could it be that its stuck in?
Looking over the posts in this group the user group looks great. I can see me visiting many times and hopefully contributing over the comming months....
I do have to say that I was not impressed at all with the black and white default screen - I have attached what my screen looks like now. If anyone is interested I will let you know what packages I have installed.
Happy Kysering

Fixed it
I managed to prize it out with a watchmakers screwdriver. It seems to be slightly thicker than a normal micro SD card, I had a 2GB card that does pop in and out no problem.
Sorry for the apalling picture, I reduced to the size as per the moderators request to less than 17K it looked erm... pretty crap (unless of course you are drunk)

I cut up a business card and slid the strip between the sd card and phone housing. It eventually allowed me to pull the card out. I took out the sd card and went around the edges with a paper clip until I could smoothly push the card in and out. Good luck...

Interesting - I compared the sizes of the cards and they are different -even though they are both Sandisk the 4GB card is slightly wider. I will get to work with my file

4GB SDHC?
let me know if filing it works, with my SDHC card, i'm just really carefuly how far i put it in.

My 4gb SDHC card is a tight squeeze, but with the slight lip on the top at the front, a long fingernail can help it out.

OMG THANK YOU !!!!!!!
I just got a 4 gig card too and couldn't get it out-had a friend with teeny fingers and long nails get it. She had a hard time too. Long story, but you're solution worked GREAT!!! the paperclip idea worked AWESOME--thanks!! (thought I had hosed it for sure and was stuck with it )

SD Card Cover - Tilt

Maybe I have the wrong size hands, but I can't seem to be able to get the cover off to access the SD card a second time. I was able to remove the cover one time to install a card, now I want to switch cards and not break the machine.
I have searched multiple topics with no luck and have just now finished manually reviewing all the available Kaiser pages. For your information there are 104 currently. So what is the trick?
What you need is finger nails .
Just pry em off with ur nails and voila!
if you have those nails that are impossible to use, than try a knife or a flat head bit screw driver
With the phones face up, take a finger nail and pick at the left side of the rubber cover. The first time I couldn't open it because I was trying the right side. It will only open from 1 side.
LOL. Here is the animation. Enjoy http://www.htc.com/flash/TyTN II e-learning/HTC TyTN II e-Learning.htm
Thanks for the quick feedback. Fingernails were out, I'm a chewer. For anyone else looking for a solution, I ended up using the plastic card that came with my Boxwave screen protector.
There is just no end to the utility of the fine products from Boxwave.

No SIM card detected.

Hi folks..
I've been having some problems with my 1 yr plus Tytn II...
Intermittently it will have no network issue. Once I go Comms Panel and OFF and ON the phone, network is fine.
But this will happen a few times, no matter if I'm outside the house or at home and
it will happen even if I leave it alone.
Also at times after a soft reset, it will says no SIM card detected.
I've tried to clean the SIM card with those rubber eraser, inserting a piece of paper on the back side of the SIM card, to no avail.
If I'm lucky it detects the SIM card.
I've tried using my sister's spare SIM card, same problems.
Any1 encountered before?
If repaired, would it cost a bomb? My warranty already over.
Or is it time for me to replace the tytn? *sigh*
I did search for no network, but think mostly it's the 3G networks having problems in some parts of the world.
Mine will intermittently have no network in 3G or not.
Thanks in advance for any inputs.
Check for dust/dirt around the contact area of the SIM and the slot contacts. Press lightly on the silver metal that crosses over the SIM slot to insure it is tight enough to insure good contact with the card.
Hope that helps.
Hi there...
yup I've cleaned and blown the sim card area.
also place a piece of paper behind the sim card.

erm why would you place a piece of paper behind the SIM card and why would you clean it with a eraser(should use a cotton rag or your shirt[NOT a washcloth they can scratch it]) by now the SIM shouldn't work in any phone and paper would stop the contact between the SIM and the SIM slot
i had the same problem some time ago...
the way i fixed it was with tape on the back of the sim card..
i know you tried paper but how much paper?
when i first put tape i would put a layer.. then nothing ... then another layer..
then nothing..
i finally got to the point where i almost broke the litle metal thing that hold the sim card in place.. but it finally worked..
i guess just hard presure fixed my phone not reading my sim..
jus my 2 cents

I hope you put the paper between the medal strip and the SIM, not under the SIM where the contacts are. If the SIM does not feel snug in the slot, remove the SIM and press down on the matal strip just a bit to tighten it. Also look carefully to see that the SIM is inserted correctly. The cut off corner does not go in first. Look carefully and you will find an illustration on the outside of the cover.
Hope that helps.

That's good value for money advice! There are posts here that mention about issues with sim connection on Tilt Specific versions of the Kaiser (although there's nothing in the Tilt specific wiki about it). As long as the paper/tape is on the back (non-contact) side and is used to push the sim closer to the contacts, it should help. If there's any chance the o/p can still return it under warranty, then try and do so. Warranties aren't hard and fast and if something fails very close to the end of the warranty period, many companies will still consider repairing it, especially if it's a 'known issue' that's cropped up. If the o/p spends some time doing a seach, I'm sure more details will come up. From what I recall reading, Kaisers other than the Tilt aren't affected and I've certainly had no such problems with my HTC branded device.

yup, I did a search and mostly was recommended to use the paper thingy.
will probably call up the HTC service centre and ask how much it would cost to repair it.
I had to lose my tytn haha. now having withdrawal symptoms using a simple nokia hp.

I figured it might be the SIM contact problem, hence the paper on the sim card.
the sim card is working well with my spare nokia hp though.
thanks all for the tips & infos!
Thank you all very much. This just happened to me and I was able to resolve with the paper behind the sim card. A real life saver since my tilt is now 14 mos old and out of warranty.
I totally forgot abt this thread...
mine was repaired for SGD 150, including the diagnostic fee since it's out of warranty...

I had the same issue with an 18 month Tilt. HTC quote was $124 US as diagnostic fee and over $300 if the board needed replacement. The shim to the back of the card was not working. Bought a new HTC brand SIM card reader from ebay for $24 US including S&H. All is well.
was it easy to DIY?
and I tot repairs here in singapore are expensive hehe
Some rubber erasers contain a small amount of ground pumice, for the sole purpose of scratching the top layer of paper when you use it to correct a mistake (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eraser#Types).. Using a rag or shirt alone will not remove any oxidation from the surface of the contacts, although if they are gold-plated they should be resistant to oxidizing anyway..
I just had the same problem today with my SIM card. So far, paper hasn't helped. (I stuck 3 layers of white adhesive binder label on the back of the SIM, and trimmed around it w/scissors) -- still no luck.

Exactly so I think rather than using a potentially abrasive eraser, it'd be best to use a specialist contact cleaner (designed just for such things) applied to a cotton bud and rubbed against the sim holder contacts and then the sim itself. It seems to me that as long as the contacting surface is spotlessly clean then packing the SIM closer to the contacts with pieces of paper behind it, shouldn't be necessary (even though it may help). A small aerosol can of contact cleaner is cheap enough and it can also be used for battery contact cleaning every few months (something it pays to do with a TyTN II in my experience).
Touch wood, my phone is still going strong as far as the sim connectivity is concerned but then its probably only ever endured 20 or so sim removals and refitments in its whole existance - maybe those experiencing problems are predominantly frequent sim removers or changers?
The Fix- its the simm cover microswitch
I may be that the reason many are getting different results, is that your tackling the wrong area of the ph as the problem. I just fixed my TYTN ll using this solution by Tilt Fanatic -Fix for No Sim Detection Problem!-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11199595#post11199595
He figured out that its source is the simm cover latch and the micoswitch that it catches on underneath. Over time this ability to catch onto microswitch, degrades so "the problem is that the outside switch is not fully catching the inside one, which is why the sim isn't being detected". Thus for many people the constant insert and closing of the simm cover inadvertantly fixes the problem. Not the deoxidizing or cleaning contacts with a rubber etc. Try it. Use something to press the inner mico switch hard up while turning on the phone. It was an instant fix for my ph, showing it was the correct source of the problem of "no simm card present". Thanks to Tilt Fanatic correctly identifying it.

[Q] What is Wrong with my Nexus One?

Hi there. Ive had my Nexus One for about a month now, I barely use it.
Anyway, I went to turn it on today. I had to remove the battery twice and on the third time it finally worked. What was happening was that it would start up and freeze on my lock screen.
Also earlier today, I took some pictures on my phone. then when I went into the gallery it didnt show any pictures or any folders. It was simply blank. I came back about 30 minutes later and everything was fine.
Whats wrong with my phone? Ive barely installed any apps, no 3rd party software. I dont understand.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
SD card contacts might need cleaning. They did when I just received the phone.

What does this mean? Thanks
Remove the MicroSD card from the phone, take some alcohol-soaked piece of cloth, and scrub the contact points on the card. Then put the card back when it dries.
Thanks for that - Any specific type of alcohol? Beer/Wine/Spirits/Whiskey etc
vodka. on the rocks
Pure alcohol, ethanol. You can use alcohol wipes as long as it's pure alcohol.
Just to clarify the use of alcohol. You want something that evaporates without leaving any traces (besides maybe a smell). Beer just makes things sticky, so it's not a very good choice.
Vodka is not the best choice, but if nothing else is around you could use it.
Best choice is isopropyl, you can get a decent bottle pretty cheap at any drugstore. It's pretty much rubbing alcohol, and can be used on all sorts of electronic stuff for cleaning contact parts.

My Nook ate my Sd Card

So as the title states, my nook literally ate my micro Sd card. (It said om nom nom while it happened too)
I was sliding it in as always and it disappeared up and over the slot all the way into the back cover somewhere.
I wasn't forcing it or applying any more pressure than you normally would getting it to "click" into place.
I can hear it rattling around in there, so I'm sure its in there.
I went to the store and they said they'd never heard of any sort of problem like this. The guy even called BN tech support and they had no idea.
Anyways... I searched around and couldn't find any way of taking the back cover off. If anyone could point me in the right direction to doing this I would appreciate it.
Look for the nook color teardown...first there are two torx screws under the SD card cover...I think the back just prys of after. Double check on the teardown page first.

Thanks, found it. Had never heard of zdnet before.
I'll give it a try tomorrow - I want my class10 card back
It was a pretty funny how the Nook salesman responded when I brought it into the store.
He was like WTF i can hear it rattling around inside it!
Same thing happened to me, removed the back cover and retrieved it. The two philips head screws under the flap are covered with little decals. Remove the screws, and gently pry the rear cover off to get your sd back. This is what solved the decision whether to root or not since I probably voided the warrantee. Didn't like the idea of frequently changing the SD.
Jim
It's TORX, not Phillips!

Just a quick warning before you strip out those screw heads, those are TORX size T5 screws, not Phillips.
Mine were philips head, most of the chassis screws were torx.

Sorry about that, they are torx screws
Perfect time to find this post. Seems I lost two cards in there. Woke up today thinking "I could have sworn I put the card back in there last night!" Luckily I had a backup card from another phone I had. So I popped that in and ran off to work. Came home and went to flash it and hmmm, no card. Time to grab a torx!
What are you doing that the card slips in the wrong area? I have not come close to doing that. I don't think. If you could reconstruct the "crime" it may be a valuable lesson for us all!
Cheers,
kev
glad i stumbled across this, so when i do the same i don't tear the house apart looking for my sd.
I ran into the same thing last night, sorta. I went to eject my movie-filled SD card to change the content and it wouldn't push-eject. I'd been using it with no problem, except when I went to remove it. Seems like whatever mechanism keeps the card in place must have gone away? Luckily it hadn't gone in all the way and I was able to pry it out with my fingernail.
Did a B&N tech chat this morning and they are sending me a replacement. Tech at first told me that warranty was expired (got my NC for Christmas!?) but when I reminded him that there is supposed to be a 1-year hardware warranty, he processed the replacement.
I think that there is a lesson in this. We are pushing the Nook to it's limits -- a good thing. In the process of doing so we're probably also pushing the secure digital port past its design limits -- which weren't terribly encouraging to start with. I suspect that whoever designed the thing figured that a SD card would get shoved in there maybe once -- or even not at all.
Probably ought to be a sticky somewhere that cautions about carefully and delicately inserting and extracting the thing. I also read of someone else whose card would no longer lock in place -- just kept popping out.

[Q] HTC one sim card reader

Hi All,
So my wife smashed her screen on the HTC one. (aussie optus version)
I ordered a new screen/front housing to replace it.: etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
Followed some good tutorials and teardowns and managed to get it apart without any damage :good:
I put the internals and front screen back together and it all worked fine apart from the sim card, it couldn't be read/detected! :crying:
After checking all my connections, trying tape on the back of the sim card, I tested the sim reader out of the original housing. the thing works!
youtu.be/4Iy-f3aQOUA
Now anyone who has pulled these apart knows that you cant get to the sim reader without seperating the screen from the front housing. i'm not keen to do that unless I have to.
So do I have a dud sim card reader?
Do etrades sim card readers require their own sim tray to work correctly? (using original sim tray)
Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?
It's alright.
I bit the bullet and pulled the front screen off with a bit of heat and a suction cap, and replaced the sim reader.
it went back together perfectly.
result = happy wife
