tytn or tytn II - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I used an advantage for about a years time and need a sidekick. Is the kasier worth the extra expenses (300 pounds) versus the hermes taking the great new ROM cooks for hermes into consideration?
thanks in advance for all input

for an extra $600 (300 pounds) definately not worth it if you dont need the gps.. howevere here in the states, its only about ~$250 difference (125 pounds), definately worth it

Kaiser worth getting over TyTN?

Hi all,
My T-Mobile upgrade has come around and I've just got off the phone with the upgrade dept having gone for the Vario II (TyTN). Of course after doing so I started looking around on here to see what the state of play is regarding firmware and unlocking etc, then I find out about the Kaiser!
So, is it worth phoning T-Mobile back and cancelling the Vario II in anticipation of this coming out? The site says "expected September" but do you think that's accurate? Also there's the cost involved... The Vario II is costing me £80, but I imagine the Kaiser will be more. Will it be worth the extra?
Any opinions gratefully received!

I would say no to selling a TyTN at a loss to buy a TyTN II, but for someone in your case I would say it's definitely worth going with the newest model, even if there is a small premium on the upgrade price.

Accurate-ish - check out the kaiser forum on www.modaco.com for more info

Definitely! But haggle and speak to retentions - you might get it for same price as Vario II
So I phoned them back and spoke to the same guy from before. He said the Vario III is already available for upgrade customers and it'll cost an extra 30 quid! Consider it done. It'll be here next week.
Thanks for the advice.
Noiz, if you don't mind me asking, how much is your typical monthly spend? Just to give me an idea of an upgrade cost.
Can't decide between a Touch, for its size, or the Kaiser for its performance.
cheers.
I just got my Kaiser a day ago and I can say that the build quality alone is worth it. It's amazing how much better the physical build quality is compared to the TyTN. It seems like HTC really put alot of effort into making this unit.
JB
yea they should have added atleast a little more internal memory. Something like 2GB internal memory would have been awesome.

Not at all! I'm on the FlexT 25 + Web n' Walk bundle. It originally cost me £26 a month because of a discount when I signed up. They said if I wanted to keep that price it would cost me more to upgrade, so he reset the contract price to its default, but then gave me a £5 discount on that. In the end it's now costing me £27.50 a month. I never actually use any more than my allowance each month.
I could've brought the price down a fair bit more by going for the FlexT 30 plan, but with the Web n' Walk on top it would've been £37.50 a month, so I decided against that.
If you're switching from another provider they seem to be offering discounts on FlexT plans on the website right now, although I didn't see the Vario III there.
Thanks for that. I'm on the exact same tariff as you but paying £24.38 due to getting 25% off. I would expect to pay a similar amount to you then, maybe a little more.
My brother get's his Touch today so after having a play with that i'll try to make my mind up which one to go for. The Touch should be free.
Thanks again.
I think they quoted me £20 for the Touch, but I'm sure you could haggle it down. Personally I wanted something with a full hardware keyboard so the Touch was out. I think you get the Touch interface with the Kaiser though if I'm not mistaken...

Tytn (O2 Trion) vs Tytn II

OK here's the thing...
I've been eyeing on the Tytn II for a while now but im starting to think it's way over my budget...
so today, i called O2, threatened them that i wanna leave since my contract is over, plus i wanna move to Tmobile, jus to see what they can do for me
they came up with this upgrade deal which i do admit, im very tempted...
FREE O2 TRION (tytn) 600min 500sms + FREE 1GB memory card
25 Pounds, 12 months contract.
i can add the 7.50 for the o2 data tarrif
Reason y im so tempted to this deal is cuz, to be honest, it's WAAAAY cheaper than what T-mobile is offering me for the Vario 3 (tytn ii)
yes they're offering me the standard flex35 with webnwalk for 37.50pounds a month + 70quid for the phone, 18 months contract
Thing is, as far as i know, the tytn ii is a slightly thinner version of the tytn with a tilting screen.
i don't need the built-in GPS at all, and the 3MP camera is still gonna be crap anyways
the processer is the same and im sure i can always install the today plugin to the tytn.
so wat do u think, people?
assuming that i really dun need the GPS, is it really worth the upgrade?
more RAM (128MB)= better performance, more ROM (256MB) means you can store more on your phone, phone call quality is better in my opinion and, even though you say you don't need GPS, once you have it you'll find it's a very usable feature on your phone... comparing processor speed could be misleading since the Tytn II is using a different chip. overall, the phone is more responsive than the Tytn I used to have... of course this is my opinion, others may differ...
go for the Hermes (Tryon). I have both and the Kaiser is better overall but way too expensive for the improvements.
it is a good deal form O2, just pick it and you may wanna to try Tytn ii 12months later
im in the same boat here.. due an upgrade on O2 and will be going to the store to see what "deal" i can get ,
i would say to mattwong2120, watch out for the £7.50 data tariff, it has a fair use of 200mb and doesnt allow the use as a modem, instant messaging, VoIP or video streaming
all it does allow is email and web browsing from the handset ...
i will be asking for a much better data tarrif if i take up that phone ..
I switched to T-Mobile from O2 just to get a cheap Kaiser with a good data tarrif
And which data tariff did you go for?
I want a proper unlimited but can't find one for less than a zillion quid a month.
Cheers,
Joe
Whatever you do, don't get Orange's "unlimited" data plan, which I was suckered into getting on an eighteen-month contract. It turns out that "unlimited" in their universe means "very limited": 30MB per month.

TyTN II or Mogul?

Hi guys,
I need some advice. I am about to buy one of those phones, I was firstly interested in the TyTN II because of the "Tilt" screen feature and RAM/CPU power but I was offered a brand new and activated Mogul with a carrier in my country (Iusacell, Mexico) for $300 less than the TyTN II... After reading all the problems with the video drivers of the TyTN II, should I buy it or buy the Mogul and wait for a better device from HTC in the future? I only have 1 day left to decide it...
Any help would be very much apreciated.

Some questions about the Tytn 2 :)

hi guys, 1st post =)
I have a few q.s about the Tytn 2 before I decide to buy one ..
1. General opinions about the handset? I'm looking for a new gadget to play with and having used my friend's Tytn 2 this seems to be a worthy contender.
2. Do the Touch Diamond/Pro offer much over the Tytn 2 for the extra cost? Is it a good idea to buy the Tytn 2 2nd hand as people upgrade their handsets to newer models?
3. If i do buy a Tytn 2 I will likely buy one off ebay, unless anyone can suggest anywhere else in the Uk where I can get one cheaper. How much is a realistic price to pay for a Tytn 2 now? Used or new?
thanks!

If you're looking for something with all the bells and whistles to play with, there's not much better and there's nothing that offers the same combination of features. I find the tilting screen very useful when watching videos on the train.

I only have a UK bought HTC TyTN II so cant compare. Does the Touch Diamond/Pro have a tiltable screen (to angle it right when watching videos)? What about expandable microSD memory capability? What do you want it for (other than 'playing with')?
I guess it depends how much risk is involved in the 2nd hand purchase as to whether that’s a good idea. These phones do have some known 'issues' one of which is that the USB port can be susceptible to failure under certain circumstances and you can't really tell until you've tested it under Activesync and tried charging it a few times if that works well. I was in a phone shop a few weeks back when a very angry customer who'd bought his 2nd hand TyTN II there began to tear strips off the shopkeeper. His phone seemed to have a faulty USB port but it also looked as if it'd had a new casing at some stage too - who knows what horrors the poor thing had endured? You need to really know what you're looking at if you buy 2nd hand. If you're not a seasoned veteran, it's safer buying new.

I got my HTC Branded TyTN II back at the end of September 07 and from memory it was about £160 with a 12 month £35 for 500 mins/500 texts Vodafone contract. The company I bought it from is no longer trading and prices have come down since then (especially so if you want a carrier branded variant - they weren't even around back then). Do some research on the net and in phone shops - in the end it's you who has to be satisfied with what you're getting. As it's your first post, you'll need to read the wiki here too - compulsory reading for all newcomers!
What about a HTC Universal/XDA Exec/MDA 5000 as a cheaper option?
What about researching. No one can tell you what one to by. I usually live by this motto.
If reading the specs of a phone doesn't get you excited. you Will loose interest in your "new phone" fast.

Worth buying?

Hello. I wonder if this phone is still worth buying. There's a guy selling it for 1200 Swedish crownes (~180USD). If I get it right there's even Android for it with a complete FroYo build. Im moving from a Samsung Spica, an androidphone. Do you guys think I will be dissapointed of the performance of the Tytn II? Also, does it have Android Market?
There is no way I would spend 180 US on the tilt nor the kaiser.

Why? (ten chars, lalalalal)
Because the phone isn't worth it, IMO the phone isn't worth much at all. There are too many good used phones out there that are much better than this phone.

Are you serious ? A Spica to a Kaiser is a BIG time down grade. Why would you want a " hacked " android OS over a native one. A smaller res screen, a slower processor etc....etc...etc. Upgrade to another Galaxy series phone.
Don't take a time machine back to 2007.
Found some around $70
I know many would recommend other phones over the Kaiser/Tilt one, but personally I don't have the funds to buy one of those. I can pick up nice nearly mint Tilts on Ebay for around $70 to $80.
Definately not worth that much. The TyTN II is a 3 year old phone, which in that market is about ancient, considering a completely new generation is released like every 6 months. I bought mine 2 years ago for 250 euro which I already found a pretty steep price at the time. Paying even more than half that now, two years later, is just rip off.
I think it'd be worth like 100-125 euro/dollar nowadays. I'm pretty sure you can ge a newer HTC device like a Touch Pro2 for 180 dollar if you browse well. On my Dutch second hand website I can find Touch Pro2's for 170-250 euros.
I think it's way to much. I bought myself a second hand Tytn II last week for just 70 euro's. And it is in pretty good condition. Over here in Belgium you can find a diamond pro for 150-180 euro's.
