Hey guys,
I previously owned an I-Mate Jam and have never once hard reset it (except for ROM flashing.
Is it considered a good practice to regularly Hard Reset a device?
What _could_ one consider a reasonable interval between hard resetting.
I don't see any reason to hard reset unless the device is failing in a way that can't be fixed with a soft reset or tweak.

Just follow the same rule you do with your computer. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Every time I change the battery on blueangel and start it up I find that the phone is off and that I have to soft reset to get it to work.
I installed wm5 quite a while back and have had this problem since the beginning. Is there a fix for this?
no, but is it so hard for you to perform soft reset ?
and one more question, how often you hange batteries every 5 minutes? (if i am correct i see why you are upset)
ridan: this is known problem: there is delay between RadioROM starting and initialisation of the device. There is only one fix: when device is booting for the first time, wait 5s (from the time you can see on the screen, that there is no information about radiorom version), then immediately make a soft reset, long before the device will finish booting: after this 2nd soft reset readio rom will boot and everything will work fine.
if you don't want to play like this, there is only one option (and there won't be other in the future): go back to WM2003.
xplode: It shouldn't really matter how often I change my battery as everyone who owns a BA knows that battery life is dependent on usage and can range from a couple of hours to a few days.
And it is not 'hard' to insert the stylus into the reset hole, but it is annoying to find that your phone has been off the whole day just because you forgot to wait 5secs and reset.
jakubd: I was going to change to a different rom, but as you say that its present on all wm5 roms I will ditch the idea. I may switch back to wm2k5 but I'm on the fence at the moment as to whether I will.
thanks for the reply jakubd.
today,I install a software "TMTCP" for video ,and I reset my kaiser.then the kaiser reset ,reset ,reset,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,till I unplug the battery. I flash the offical version,OK,but kaiser also reset, reset.what happen for my phone.help me ,thanks

I have hard reset,problem also
hard reset supposed bring back the setting to the original factory setting... in your case might be advisable to ask help from the expert... sorry can't help
Not sure if I'm experiencing the same problem.
I've recently installed the Core Media Player??? used it once or twice I believe then it crashed and wouldnt work anymore. I uninstalled it a day or two ago. Today my screen keeps freezing every few minutes after a soft reset ... it appears to have resolved it self for now but I'd like to know what happened.....
tnx.
My Tilt did a hard reset when today. I pusehd the button for a soft set, and it did a hard one. Anyone ever experience that?
I am suspicious of software. But haven't seen any comments about this problem in any threads on it.
Recently installed software is:
SBP Mobile Shell 3
Finger Suite
Touchpal
Any thoughts?
In order for a full hard reset to happen you need to press the key combination THEN press the green call pickup key.
If it did bypass all those then I guess there is a severe software error for it to manage it.
My only advice would be to be careful and keep a note if it happens again....
Yep. In fact I've found it hard to do a hard resset on my phone. I"ve done 2-3 times over the past 18 months, but haven't for a while.
It's really strange.
The good news is I had a 2 day old backup.
Strange indeeed. Normally the hard reset is done either by a combination of keys as you said or with the “clear storage” function in the settings menu.
However, recently I had a similar "mysterious" experience with a TyTN 1. I installed a new SPL and a new ROM and then I started filling it up with programs and then at one of the soft resets I noticed it was too slow starting up and it did a hard reset instead. What I did is I installed another SPL version (newer one) and I never had this problem again (so far).
Sorry. I'm blank. What is SPL, and what version did you install that helped?
Hello,
My phone keeps hard resetting about once every 5 times i turn it off. And it hard resets even more oftenly if i do a soft reset.
It's done a hard reset 6 times already in the last two days.
I did just flash my phone to the [WM6.5.3]Titanium Ultimate 28002 ROM last saturday.
Thanks for all your help
Also, I'm sorry if this has already been discussed... I searched the forum without success
I come from and extensive Blackberry background and there are a couple little terms I've seen that I need clarification on what they mean in WP7 world.
Hard Rest and Soft Reset(yep, that's it...for now)
In the BB world, hard reset is a battery pull and soft reset is just powering off/on.
In the RingRing7 readme file it said, "...be aware that once a ringtone is installed, at the moment, it can't be removed except via a hard reset." so I wanted to make sure I knew what a WP7 hard reset is. Thanks!
soft reset. when the power is off and turned back on.
hard reset. when you restore device to 'factory' settings.
