Just a Greeting... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey all,
I've been reading the 8525 forums and 8125 forums and playing around with my old phones for a couple of years. Yesterday, I got two 8925 (TILT) from AT&T and will be spending some time in here. Just thought I'd say hello.
I won't ask what cab to start with (lol) but any advice is always solid. ....lets' see...there must be a AT&T cab in case I f*ck up around here somewhere, right?

Do you think the the bugs will be fixed for 8925?

I just wanted to know that should i wait for 8925 or get a TyTN II now?
do you think that the current bugs that people mention that TyTN II has, will be fixed for 8925 or not!?

My view - If you wait for an 8925 it will not change any of the "bugs" (IMHO small ones - but it depends what is important to you). Also if you get a branded version it may suffer the usual "bloat" that comes with that.
A better reason to wait might be price, but then that could take quite a while to drop substantially.

We will have to look into our crystal ball to know for sure.
Crystal Ball?? We're talking AT&T here. It's a magic 8 Ball. You don't think there's any logic behind those answers they give do you?!

I'm still doing my research on this too, so this probably already has an answer. But when updates come out (if there's not already one, or a dump/cook?), 8925 users could go unbranded pretty easily. I'm just wondering if the 8925 will use the same general scheme for simlocks as 8525, and if so, if the 8525 unlocker could work, or be easily adapted. I'm intending on using the 8925 with tmousa, even though in my area it's only got gprs . Figure for $550, I could cancel my att and save a lot just keeping tmousa, and hopefully it'll have edge buildout or something by next year. On a side note, I wonder why they got rid of irda. I was hoping to be able to use my phone as a remote control (if they even can.. i remember my old nokia s60)

T-Mobile is coming out with the Kaiser also but when we have no idea.. Also T-mobile is going to be using the 1700Mhz for there 3G so pretty soon we will all have the Kaiser with every carrior!
Cool. The thing is that I'm kind of stuck at the moment and not sure what to do. I've been selling phones during the summer months and going to school during the rest. For the first summer, I sold a lot of phones and was in good terms with the tmo indirect guy. He told me he'd let me keep my dealer line even though I went on hiatus until the next summer. However, when next summer rolled around, I heard that the guy got promoted somewhere else in tmo. I never met the new guy who was supposed to visit our kiosk. Same went for the third summer. Now, I'm back at school again. Still on the smartaccess since I was only 18 with no history when I first got the dealer line.
I'm not sure exactly what my internet includes, since it seems to be on and off what I'm allowed to do. But in any case, out here in ithaca, ny, they seem to have pulled away from the market. I was originally debating a parttime here during the year, but they're gone now. Currently, on my 6682 that I'm using with tmo, I'm only seeing gprs.
I'm a little afraid of calling into tmo since it's a dealer line, and the site I worked at has changed dealer codes since my line was activated, so I'm afraid it'll run into trouble. Anyone have any insight?

Looking to buy a Kaiser to replace dead Wizard, I have a few questions...

Ok I have been seriously thinking about buying one of these and have already started saving my money to get one but before I take the plunge and spend almost $800.
I guess my first question is a hardware question. I have read a few posts about people having issues with the USB being "crappy" and also the digitizer cutting out due to loose internal connections. I really want to know if these are very common problems or rare instances of hardware failure.
Seccondly, it seems like the firmware is kinda buggy from things that I've read and that the phone's release was rushed and the firmware suffered the consequences. I know there is no cube on the Kaiser, (honestly glad to hear it... its a memory wasting piece of junk IMHO...) I know that TouchFlo is not on the phone and honestly, it's not neccessary to me.
Third and finally, I have T-Mobile as my wireless carrier and if I were to buy a Kaiser, would it be possible to configure it for T-Mobile's GPRS and EDGE settings for their Total Internet package that I have? I am a big user of the internet on my Wizard and would need it if I bought a Kaiser.
I suppose what I'm asking is are there any serious firmware flaws that drive you guys(and gals) crazy and is the hardware commonly unreliable on these phones? I really like what I see on the HTC website and I have done alot of looking around on ebay and love the performance specs I have read but don't want to spend a ton of money if it's not worth the money. You know?
Any and all help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Dan.
Honestly it's not a problem.
My Kaiser (and my Wife's and a work friend) are all fine. There are a few sniggles with the firmware, that I'm sure will be sorted, as lets be honest all first edition firmware's have.
The device DOES have TouchFlo, just no Cube......
The internet etc are all fine... I'm on T-Mobile as well....
Go for it, it's the best QVGA device out there at the moment.
Mine has no problems and is fantastic!.
Matt.

I'm gonna go for it. I figure what do I have to lose? Money? I can always get more... Besides it seems like a well built phone and from what everyone has told me and everything I've read, it seems to be completely compatible with T-mobile which is a plus.
I'm saving guys... Sooner than later I hope, I will be an active member of the Kaiser community but for now, It's Wizard for me.

[Poll] Kaiser Death Rate

I'm trying to see the death rate of the Kaiser, If you have ever had any problem with your Kaiser/Tilt/yada yada, vote the poll, leave one here.
Problem Defined As:
An issue that ended in a return (wash out or RLoD (RIP Kaiser I))
Or:
An issue that had you flabbergasted for more than 24 hours and had your phone in a non-operatable condition. (Duttys snow screen etc.)
microphone failed after 1.5months. took 3 weeks to repair.
not good enough
No problems. TyTN II version. 6 months (right when it was released).
Doing alright on this end. Went rom to rom and no ROLD or anything....yet.
my kaiser just broke, i was sent a new one.
the screen just cracked, i didnt do anything. i was in school, before class i looked at my phone and it was fine, then about 15-20 minutes later i looked again and the screen was white and cracked.
i owned it about 4 months.
theres been other reports on the forum of broken screen, even in the middle of charging on the computer!
Failed WiFi. Exchanged after 2 weeks. The replacement has been trouble free.
50 votes and 5 replies?
mannn...
RLOD return
RLOD on Tilt #1
Tilt #2 working fine
had tilt since christmas...used many cooked and factory roms....still works perfectly. no probs....KNOCK ON WOOD.....hahahahaha
Crashed during boot with stock rom.... took 3 weeks to fix...
My Tilt inexplicably stopped allowing the battery to charge. Replacement process was excellent.
I have had mine for about 2 months and not problems so far, its a Vario III... I wonder if its a particular incarnation eg the tilt perhaps...?
The problem with this poll is that there's no telling how many "problem free"s right now might later have become a "sadly..", since once the vote is cast that's it.
That said, my Kaiser (originally a Vodafone V1615, flashed to the generic HTC rom) is problem free after 4 months so far. Although obviously it will now break tomorrow!
two months old, only problem is that now and again, all the icons disappear from the programs folder and the settings. fixed by a soft reset, but is the same on every rom i have tried, any ideas?
I guess a mod got to my triple post as i was attempting to edit them... anyways i had one kaiser for a week, and when you slid the screen to cover the keypad it seemed to come out a little further then it should creating a small lip. I gave that one to my dad, and now i've got another one which has no problem at all.
BTW both are the ATT Tilt variants and NO i didn't give the first one to my dad cuz its broken, i actually ordered him a new one on ebay, just didn't arrive in time. Actually it arrived like 2 hours after his flight departed haha.
Upgraded to tilt before I knew of this site, Had 4 total in the first month. The first three all had the "failure to wake" issue. The 4th one is working just fine. Well so far...........
screen broken after a small fall
Sadly, I broke my tytn II screen after four months of happiness. It was really a small fall :-(
Glad to say that I've had my phone since October, flashed it more times than anyone can count and it's still going strong w/o any problems.
well..one more pessimistic thread..lol
on a side note..YAY!!! "problem free" people touched 100!
my condolensces with the unlucky 20%..gosh thats still a large number..
but then..usually people who have problems with their devices visit forums...
or people who want to modify their kaiser (and sometimes screw it up in the process)
so i guess this poll wont be fair to judge kaiser..
I have 2 tilts and they both run fine..so i roll on 100%..lol
broken

My kaiser went down after 3 months... was one of the unlucky first brodit users!!! hahaha, repair service was excellent though!!!
Besides that never encountered a problem

To buy or not to buy.. the wing.

That is the question. Looking to that T-Mobile Wing device and found a lot of negative feedbacks in internet. Many people says that wing is very buggy and slow. What do you think about that? Very appretiate to get your opinions.
Thank you.
At this point, the wing is the only phone that Tmobile offers. It is pretty buggy and slow with the stock ROM on it. There are plenty of custom ROM's found on this forum that make the wing usable. I wouldn't say that they are incredibly fast compared to the tytn II, but with the right programs and ROM, the wing is fairly stable and fast.
At this point if you can wait I would say wait. The wing is near the end of its life cycle and with T-mobile launching its 3g network now they are going to come out with a new device. I am looking forward to getting my hands on an Android phone when they launch it 3rd quarter. Its a good phone just a little old and under powered at this point imo.
well bro.. Tmobile Wing a.k.a. HTC Herald is a older device. You can see, HTC Touch, have the same processor but double of memory (RAM and FLASH). Also u can see HTC Polaris (Touch Cruiser) is powered by a speedy processor (400MHz)
I can recommend u HTC Kaiser (TyTN II, AT&T Tilt) that its sold by AT&T. Is a good device, the only thing is poor video drivers.. but.. u r goin to turn ur ppc into a gaming device? i dont think so
Ok guys. First of all thank you about your opinions. You have very friendly forum.
I am consider wing as a cheap device. Just looked at ebay and found a lot of 300$ offers for never used phones. I am using t mobile prepaid and so can't get contract discount. I think all models which you mentioned are more expensive then wing.
Thank you again for your opinions.
if you want it for cheap i know of a WWw where you can get it cheap and new with 2 year contract
There are a lot of 1$ offers with 2y contract on ebay
its a good www i have used it may times and got my phone and family's phone from here

I got mine on ebay a little over a year ago for around 250, but yeah, on the stock rom, it does run slow and can be buggy. ...but, flashing to different roms, and all the tweaks you can do make it run extremely stable and quick. True, there are some other phones coming out with faster processors, but you are going to pay a lot more $$$ for them. I'm extremely happy with the way I have my phone setup now. It's a night and day difference from the stock rom.

Total Noob

Hey all, I just wanted to say that I love this site. I have have an 8125 for over 4 years now never did anything to it except change the background colors around with TK Creator if I remember right anyway about two weeks ago I dropped my phone while trying to put it in the case on a tile floor. Thankfully it didn't outright break but the screen went to a faded white but it was still somewhat useabe
I found a parts phone on ebay and I managed to take both phones apart to make 1 good phone and the best part was that the ebay phone was almost brand new. The case was in great shape and the only thing wrong with the phone was the screen was bad. Not bad for less than $20 bucks shipped
I found your site when I was trying to get instructions about how to take my 8125 apart and it was great to while I was making a new fone anyway I decided to make my first attempt at a ROM flash
The Wiki page was great. It walked me thru the process without a single hitch and now I'm pretty happy. I just got done with the flash and it looks great. I chose Cracing CR96 and I like it so far
I still have a ton to learn but I downloaded Cracing's kitchen I'm going to be looking into that next
Thanks for all the posts and the great advise that helped make this go way easier that I ever thought it would be
And to all those other Noobs out there that haven't taken the plunge yet, I would say do lots of searches and read all the post that you can related to your questions because chances are your questions have been asked and answered several times already
Thanks again
Sam
