I'm trying to see the death rate of the Kaiser, If you have ever had any problem with your Kaiser/Tilt/yada yada, vote the poll, leave one here.
Problem Defined As:
An issue that ended in a return (wash out or RLoD (RIP Kaiser I))
Or:
An issue that had you flabbergasted for more than 24 hours and had your phone in a non-operatable condition. (Duttys snow screen etc.)
microphone failed after 1.5months. took 3 weeks to repair.
not good enough
No problems. TyTN II version. 6 months (right when it was released).
Doing alright on this end. Went rom to rom and no ROLD or anything....yet.
my kaiser just broke, i was sent a new one.
the screen just cracked, i didnt do anything. i was in school, before class i looked at my phone and it was fine, then about 15-20 minutes later i looked again and the screen was white and cracked.
i owned it about 4 months.
theres been other reports on the forum of broken screen, even in the middle of charging on the computer!
Failed WiFi. Exchanged after 2 weeks. The replacement has been trouble free.
50 votes and 5 replies?
mannn...
RLOD return
RLOD on Tilt #1
Tilt #2 working fine
had tilt since christmas...used many cooked and factory roms....still works perfectly. no probs....KNOCK ON WOOD.....hahahahaha
Crashed during boot with stock rom.... took 3 weeks to fix...
My Tilt inexplicably stopped allowing the battery to charge. Replacement process was excellent.
I have had mine for about 2 months and not problems so far, its a Vario III... I wonder if its a particular incarnation eg the tilt perhaps...?
The problem with this poll is that there's no telling how many "problem free"s right now might later have become a "sadly..", since once the vote is cast that's it.
That said, my Kaiser (originally a Vodafone V1615, flashed to the generic HTC rom) is problem free after 4 months so far. Although obviously it will now break tomorrow!
two months old, only problem is that now and again, all the icons disappear from the programs folder and the settings. fixed by a soft reset, but is the same on every rom i have tried, any ideas?
I guess a mod got to my triple post as i was attempting to edit them... anyways i had one kaiser for a week, and when you slid the screen to cover the keypad it seemed to come out a little further then it should creating a small lip. I gave that one to my dad, and now i've got another one which has no problem at all.
BTW both are the ATT Tilt variants and NO i didn't give the first one to my dad cuz its broken, i actually ordered him a new one on ebay, just didn't arrive in time. Actually it arrived like 2 hours after his flight departed haha.
Upgraded to tilt before I knew of this site, Had 4 total in the first month. The first three all had the "failure to wake" issue. The 4th one is working just fine. Well so far...........
screen broken after a small fall
Sadly, I broke my tytn II screen after four months of happiness. It was really a small fall :-(
Glad to say that I've had my phone since October, flashed it more times than anyone can count and it's still going strong w/o any problems.
well..one more pessimistic thread..lol
on a side note..YAY!!! "problem free" people touched 100!
my condolensces with the unlucky 20%..gosh thats still a large number..
but then..usually people who have problems with their devices visit forums...
or people who want to modify their kaiser (and sometimes screw it up in the process)
so i guess this poll wont be fair to judge kaiser..
I have 2 tilts and they both run fine..so i roll on 100%..lol
broken

I'm considering buying the refurbished Tilt from ATT premier. Are those any good? if problems, are they just something flashing can fix, or hardware?
I'd like to get some feedback, is it alright to take advantage of the refurbished deal.
Just picked one up.
Bought one last week with a little trepedation after reading some of the threads regarding ATT sending refurbs to replace defective units after 30 days. But for a $150, it was worth taking a look.
Got it in, checked it out and could'nt tell it from new. YMMV!
Glad I got it!
Tom
Referbished ATT Tilt
I just got mine two days ago and could not be happier with it. No signs of referb....looks new to me. Premier price after $25 discount = $125. No brainer.
It's a mixed bag. Refurb can mean many things. It could be a phone that someone bought, used for 10 minutes, and decided they didn't like it. Or it could be a phone that had problems. Either way they are returned to "factory settings" and then relisted for a discounted price. I have heard many stories of people getting a refurb phone and it working flawlessly. But there are also those, myself included, who have had problems with refurbs.
It basically comes down to the luck of the draw. Even if something is wrong with it initially, you can always return it for another one.

I am pretty sure besides returning it to factory settings, they also repair/replace whatever was wrong with them. I couldn't swear to this, but it just wouldn't make any sense if they didn't. If a hard reset would have fixed the problems it was having, it doesn't seem like it would have needed to be replaced, since hard reset is one of the steps you have to go through before they will replace your phone. ATT claims (I've asked them on the phone), that refurbs are repaired, and tested thoroughly.
With that said, I have had problems with BOTH brand new Tilt, as well as refurbed ones. So, I say yes, definitely try the refurb out, you will likely get the same quality as the new ones, which means f you are lucky, you will get a good one, if not you can exchange (same goes for the new ones).
All the refurb ones I have received from ATT have looked cosmetically new. In fact, they look so new, I wonder if they replace the housing on them. Not one has had even a tiny scratch.
got two myself, i agree, they probably replace the case. these are to replace the two 8125s in the house. what roms are you guys rolling with?
bought the wife a refurb about a week ago...its flashed and screaming like new...couldnt even tell its a refurb...and for 150..why not?
I got mine 2 weeks ago and it looked brand new when I got it. I'm still figuring which rom I like and the SNES emulators are slow, other than that its a cool gadget.

Nothing wrong with them. If you have a problem return it. Matter of fact... FLASH Hard SPL/a new ROM as soon as you get it.. I bet its already been done on the phone...
Nothing wrong with refurbs.
do u brought them off from the att website?
I got one after my original NEW one died. Can't tell the difference...works fine. Sprite backup is a lifesaver. Restored to refurbished one almost perfectly. Just had to re-input some registration codes and fix email (app to do that).
I got one last week. Innitially was planning to sell it and continue using my flashed 8125 but just couldn't do it.
The first one i got had a stuck pixel, so did an exchange and got another one. I did a little bit of complaining, so they overnight the replacement to me.
and also, according to the rep that i spoke to, these come with a 1 year warranty, so for $150 and still a 1 year warranty.......you just cant go wrong with that.
Reassuring
Okay, Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll order the premier refurb today! Is it wise to wait until warranty expire to flash/mod, or can I just dive in? after reading more about flashing/upgrading of course.
150$?
Ok, looking at picking up a refurb'd tilt, looks sweet.
I see the 150$ price, but only if I sign up for a 2 year contract...?
Is everyone on here signing a 2 year contract? or am I missing something?
Refirb is a mixed barrel. You will get some that were used/abused and then flashed and re-cased... other returns could simply be "It's not for me" with almost no usage...
However, some retailers have a "No Open Box" policy on phones, if its returned after a 5 minute call it's returned to the vendor -- It's mostly a legal issue, since it could have someone's private data/contact list loaded and unprotected -- this policy ensures they are not responsible if that gets out after the Manufacturer wipes it.
I bought a refurbished tilt. I was pretty apprehensive about it. but I figured, hey, I spent $360 on my 8125 and that was used from eBay, so...why not $150 on something that comes with a guarantee from AT&T?
Other then the sticker on the screen looking like it had been removed and replaced, there was no indication that anything about it was used externally. Inside, under device information, it counted 15 min for incoming calls and 36 min for outgoing calls. That's all. Maybe someone used it and found it too difficult? Or maybe they tried using a BT headset and promptly returned it because the BT stack SUCKS. my only real complaint about the Tilt and that has zero do it with it being refurbished.
My first Tilt had a very obviously defective keyboard, every key surrounding the right soft key didn't work and the softkey itself was raised up so high it would press itself most of the time when closed.
My second one has been good!
BTW, I've used 3 PCs, two headsets, and 1 GPS and no bluetooth problems. The only problem I've had is that I've discovered that if the Tilt is powered down (screen off... not totally powered down) sometimes the headset doesn't pair up, so I just hit the power button on the Tilt then on the headset, wait for the confirmation beep a few seconds later, then turn the Tilt back off.
They are on the regular site for $99.00 as of this morning. You have to click on the bundles or packaged deals. Don't just select the phone.
does anyone know when its going to go down? i know they said mid july, but i haven't heard anything about a release date from those guys yet...
It should be out towards the end of the month. I heard they were shipping Tilts with 6.1 now.
only at&t would do something that weird, ship them before they have the update available for download on their site.

Son, you have issues.
Seriously I've had my Tilt for over 8 months now and it still works great.
checked ATT's forums yesterday and on their forum there is a thread saying it's rumored to be released the 20th.

I had a Treo 750 before the Tilt, and the WM6 update didn't come out til months after AT&T had said it would

Well, I think it would have been nicer, and more accurate to say my phones have issues.
I have gone through 6 Tilts in the following manner.
-The first 2 had non functioning speaker phones. I received them this way, I did not break them. I actually kept one like this for several months, out of sheer frustration of dealing with hours on the phone to AT&T again.
-The next one the microphone did not work at all, not for placing calls, receiving calls, not on speakerphone, and did not even work for recording. The phone never worked, it was received with a non functioning microphone.
-One arrived with glue all over the casing
-The following one began (after 3 months) to lose signal completely. The signal would be at 2 bars, then shoot up to 4 bars for a second, then drop completely out, and would not recover for several minutes. This happened at times and in locations where my other telephone (Razr V3xx) had perfect 4 bar reception. By the way, the phone was never dropped, or in a any way damaged, and was always kept in a case when not in use. I tried everything including disabling 3G, changing radios etc. Several soft and hard resets, and many missed calls later I decided it could not be normal behavior, which was confirmed by AT&T.
-And finally the last one I received on Monday, arrived with a broken "tilt" mechanism. In order to tilt the screen, it must be forcefully pushed, at which time it makes a horrible creaking noise as if it's going to break.

Hi:

It's post # 112. He doesn't say what he bases his date on.
EDIT: Sorry I missed in that same thread, post # 116 (last post), he does say he got his info directly from HTC support.
I'm on Tilt #5 myself. But I only count 2 since AT&T caused the other three.
1: Had since launch. Face buttons stopped working
2: Refurb replacement. Scratched camera, keyboard, and loose hinges.
3: Refurb replacement. Scratched keyboard, and loose hinges.
4: Refurb replacement. Scratched camera, keyboard, and loose hinges.
5: "Full kit" replacement. Essentially a brand new Tilt. AT&T just can't say it on the phone. (Came with 2 stylus, battery, box, and car charger + bluetooth headphones for my inconvenience)
Phones 2 - 5 all happened inside of 10 days (including weekends)

OMG, you got bluetooth headphone?! How did you manage that? Any suggestions as to what I should say to them to hopefully get some too, after going through so many crappy phones? Right now, I am stuck with one that doesn't even have basic phone signal at times.
PS: What kind of headphones?
I have searched the Forums and I have seen this issue addressed but I haven't found any advice that will help in my particular case. I purchased a Nexus One with Froyo 2.2 used off Ebay. I had read reviews, watched videos, checked specs, and thought this was the phone I wanted. I paid $500. It arrived in good condition and at first I thought I had made the right move. It wasn't long before I discovered the Touchscreen issue and started turning up posts validating my concerns. I have found that if I turn, tilt, angle, or otherwise reposition my phone, the touchscreen does eventually work without a reboot. Toggling the power button does not work for me, nor did removing and reseating the battery. Since I did not buy the phone new I have no warranty. It is not clear to me whether or not this can even be repaired - some posts seem to indicate that not all Nexus One phones have this issue - some indicate that all do. I don't know if I've just thrown $500 out the window or if I have some options. I own two businesses and am a heavy phone user. I need a phone that works all the time and I can't afford to miss calls because the slider won't slide. Sadly one of my businesses is failing and eating up every cent of profit from the other, so money is a huge issue for me.
Please don't accuse me of not searching the forums - I have. Regardless, I still do not know what to do. Is this phone fixable? Can someone please direct me?
Thanks,
A very sad and disappointed Susan
There are 2 different touch screen issues. Which one are you having?
1) The presses register lower than needed, so you miss the correct point where you wanted to press. Plagues all N1s, seems to be reduced by the newest radio (Korean 5.12) for whatever reason, pressing power button twice (once for sleep and once for wake again) cures it, always.
2) Touch screen becomes completely unresponsive, sometimes screen doesn't turn off or doesn't turn on. It might be the failure that I'm checking right now. Didn't confirm it completely yet, but looks like latest kernels (I tested intersectRaven's 20101025_XXXX one) cure it. Tested with CM6.1.0-RC1 on friend's Nexus that would hang several times a day when using stock FRG83 (I can't test myself, can't bring my Nexus to hang, succeeded only once).
Warranty
I've read on these forums that the 1 year warranty on Nexus One is on the phone not the purchaser, you might want to contact HTC and see if your device is still under warranty. Its a PIA but the turn around time for most people including myself is really quick, here's hoping its less than a year old!!
There aren't any N1s over a year old.
FYI.
I have never had any touchscreen trouble with my N1, I ordered mine during the N1 launch event as soon as the website was up so its a pretty early one.
I've had loads of problem with the capacitive buttons though.
I _have_ had my N1's screen _seem_ unresponsive, but in each case I've been able to connect adb and see that in actual fact the framework was locked in mid-crash (and that's only happened to me maybe 5 times since I've had it, ignoring when I've been running Cyanogenmod nightlies )
Hey, I heard that installing CM6 fixes it for a lot of people, I wouldn't know from experience though, because I installed CM6 before even turning the phone on when I got it =)

Nope. the touchscreen issue is still there but it really does not bother me. It only crops up once in a blue moon.
Make sure your not accidentally touching any part of the screen when you slide to answer. The slide will not register if your palm is touching the glass.
If your CPU is 100% used the same thing can happen.
Paying 93% of the retail cost don't seem like a good deal for a used phone. (its 535+25+tax from google)

In CA, Mine was $580 total - shipped. That's only 86%
Seeing as tax for me within CA was 53 dollars (10% ugh ), total for the "DEV" phone today would have been 613 dollars. A N1 for 500 bucks even is 81%, not 93%
Installing a custom ROM fixed the problem for me. I have never used CM6, but I don't have the problem with either Enomther's or MIUI. I recommend you try both!

$500 is 93% of $535 since you're not playing tax at ebay anyway. Shipping is free from google.
Thank you so Much
I have been traveling on business and until now have not had a chance to read all your answers and reply. I have the 2nd problem described, that the screen becomes completely responsive. Sometimes it helps to turn the phone from portrait to landscape, but sometimes not. I have to admit that while I thought that turning it off and on again did not work, I am now finding that it does usually fix the problem.
As far as buying it used, I would have preferred to buy it new, but when I tried the Google site announced that Google was no longer selling the phone. Anyplace else I found it new, the price was close to $700.
At any rate, now I have some options to try. I'm not sure how to install a new ROM but I am sure the instructions are here somewhere and I will search for them. When I bought it, it already had Froyo 2.2 installed by the previous owner.
I will also contact HTC with the IMEI number to see if it is still under warranty.
You all have given me such great advice that I have a lot more research to do. I'm exhausted tonight having just returned from my trip but I will be researching and hopefully attempting the ROM update over the weekend. Stay tuned.
Susan
As in earlier post, there aren't any N1's over a year old. As long as your water strips and void stickers are intact you should be good.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have a fairly new n1 (EU vodafone shipped with FRF91)
I had some touchscreen errors before on cyanogenmod 6.1rc1 with their kernel
With intersects ravens kernel (2.6.35.7_AVS-CM_BFS_20101104_2252) it seems fixed
Thought I'd share my story with you all in hopes that some of you may have had similar problems I've had with the Droid 3, perhaps in an effort to give me hope that one day I'll receive one that isn't shot to hell in some way shape or form.
1.) Brand-new, upgraded from the Droid 2 around the first week of August. This one lasted about a month before the slider just gave out and became so loose that it would open up by itself if I held the phone horizontally. No case was used on it prior, so I'm not sure what caused this. Never dropped it either (I baby the hell out of my phones).
2.) Replacement came in, no big deal. Attempted to slide it open right out of the box. Guess what? Wouldn't budge. Literally jammed shut. Sent it back the same day.
3.) Boot-looping from hell and 3G drop all the time in places where I should have full reception (i.e., my house). 5.6.890 was not released at this time.
4.) - 7.) Every single one had a completely jacked up sliding mechanism that would either squeek, crack, scratch, jam, or completely tear apart the left plastic portion next to the keyboard within just 5-10 slides. Unacceptable. 1 or 2 of these (lost count) also loved to boot-loop for no apparent reason. Mind you, I tried every trick in the book. Tried never installing ANY apps, tried replacing the extended battery with the stock one, tried replacing the SD-card with a different one, and hard-resetted several times. To no avail.
8.) Replacement #8. 5.6.890 is released, no more boot-looping it seems, but this one has a vibrating mechanism from hell. Whenever it would vibrate, it would sound like electricity. Haptic feedback on it felt like voltage. Unacceptable.
9.) Just received replacement #9 today. This <MAY> be a stupid thing to complain about, but wherever I press on the phone, the damn thing squeeks like it's falling apart. Press the home button ever so slightly...*squeek.* Press the back button...*rattle*. Wipe the phone down with a cloth...*rattle rattle crackle crackle squeek squeek squeeeeeeeeek*. No matter how little pressure I use, it squeeks as if its falling apart. The sliding mechanism, however, feels solid and amazing on this one. Clicks and holds tight, but OH MY GOD IS SQUEEKS AND RATTLES SO MUCH. Never had/heard this problem on the other 8 replacements.
Someone shoot me =/
Also, none of these problems arose post-root nor did I root any of the ones I owned. I have rooted my brothers and I'm currently using his to text out new ROMs and such....but it's freaking annoying. I want my own to play with and flash.
Does anyone else have weird problems? I may be a little OCD when it comes to stuff like this, but I sure as hell didn't pay 230 dollars for a boot-looping/voltage vibrating/3g dropping/SQUEEKING phone.
...does anyone else's "squeek" or "rattle" when the press down on the bottom-right or top-right corners of the phone when it's closed?

Man, sounds like you got stuck getting all the bad batch phones = / I'm really rough on my phone, and I've had none of these problems. Hopefully you can get a good one, cuz this phone is quite fantastic once rooted and rom'd. The only complaint I've ever had was the weak stock battery life, but even that isn't that bad since I've modded it.

You've replaced it just as many times as well huh? That's crazy.
the same thing happened with my droid x they all sucked they acutely had to send me a brand new one still in the box ....to fix the issues i was having ... lets just say thank God Verizon not selling cars there 100 point inspection test dosent work very well .. every time i call vzw they insure me it was put to the test i say well some one must of been blind because there is a light shining throw the screen when i just put the battery in it lol
Well I'm on the 6th, satisfied with this one so far. Most of them had the vibrate problem you mentioned. Some had light bleeding out of the screen near the softkeys. One the screen would randomly get distorted, almost like the top half of the screen was twisted and flipped around. And yes I do hear some squeaking on this one it's the back cover for mine anyway, taking it on and off too many times I assume.
Yea I'm not too sure about this 100-point inspection they keep referring to. How the hell do they miss something like what you mentioned...or an insanely squeeky/loose screen? Or even a 100% jammed screen that won't slide up? 100-point my ass.
Also, just to clarify...I absolutely love the Droid 3; I just want one that isn't jacked up. Even if they offered me a brand-new Bionic or something, I'd refuse. I love the D3, I just want one that isn't insanely jacked.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I've had the light-bleeding around the softkeys as well (specifically the last one I got, number 8). It was only on the bottom-right portion. Very noticeable and very annoying.
its sad becuse the razr looks nice but seems how i have had so many issues with droid x to droid x2 to droid 3 i think i am all out of spending my money on them but there attenna design is by far the best .... oh i am so torn ... i just miss 2 years ago having my droid in my hands .. life was good back then ...
I'm on my second, no issues at all.. After a 3rd replacement I would have *****ed to the point where they were sending me a new phone not a refurbished.

I did, after the 6th. I got a supervisor and she was a real B-word. I tore her apart and she refused to send me a new one. Don't think they ever would, because I was on the phone with her for about 15 minutes and she refused.
believe me i have but they just changed there policy you can keep getting as many refurbish phones. it used to be after 5 they would try to get you into something else ... well lets see the offered me the charge and tunderbolt i exsplaned to them that the only comparable device to this dorid 3 is the bionic and they wont offer that .. i am not going to down grade a dul core with the crap of last year test market no thank you ...
Wow, you must have the luck of an Irish to receive this many defective phones consecutively.

first one and ive dropped it so many times (ruggedized case *lol*) and i havent had any 'manufacturer' problems
Defect Looping?
My D3 has had no real problems other than what is common to a new phone (mostly software related) and occasional operator error. I cannot calculate the statistical probability against randomly receiving nine consecutive bad phones. Either someone has targeted you to receive all the junk ones or you live somewhere with frequent over-the-top EMPs (or maybe hell). With similar experiences with the other phones as well, you must be living under some kind of curse!

Lmao. Well, considering they are all pre-owned "like new" devices...there is the probability that they were returned for the same reasons I'm returning them.
I get yet another one in the mail tomorrow...
Create a sob story and they send you a different phone. Its how i went from the droid x to the droid 3 without having an upgrade :] keep complaingin on the phone and say you want a different more reliable device thats in the same range. Then say something about the bionic {or differen phone} and they will give up and give it to you for free. just have to pay for a battery
Hello Xda,
This is my first post here although I've lurked for quite some time looking for answers and help.
I just got my droid 4 over winter break and I have been loving it since. The update to JB was nice but it took me some time to get it right because I am specialâ„¢.
Anyways, here's my problem: A few weeks ago I was napping on a couch and I rolled over and the phone fell to the ground screen down. Later that morning the touch screen started acting erratically where it would not work until i locked and unlocked the phone. After having that happen a few times later that day the touch screen went out completely. I rebooted the phone by holding the lockscreen down and using the keyboard to select power off. When I turned it back on even the lock screen had started being screwy, which leaves me to where I am now. The lock screen locks the phone perfectly, but it i have to hit it multiple times and hope that it will turn on in the next 5-10 before trying again. The touch screen still does not work. I have read around and saw that it could be the digitizer. I took the phone apart once to make sure nothing was loose anywhere before I bought it and since that did not fix the phone I went ahead and purchased a new digitzer. I just finished installing it and I'm still having the same issues. So xda, I'm lost.
I really don't feel like buying a new phone and I'd love to try and repair this. Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem could be? I checked the pins on the back of the mobo and they looked fine. I just left the phone on a bit too long and got about 2 weeks worth of texts so it still runs smoothly..just without a damn touch screen.
Thank you for your help and reading this wall of text!
Edit: I just realized lockscreen is meant to be lock button in the title, sorry for any confusion!

Wow! That's bizaare. I can safely say that I've dropped my Droid 4 multiple times in the year that I've owned it, including on hard surfaces, and I've never had any problems as such. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
This sounds like a pretty in depth hardware issue, and I think it's beyond my scope of knowledge, But, I would like to ask, did you buy the phone from a third party? Or directly from your service provider? Because if you bought it from your provider, I was going to ask if you had insurance on the phone. If not, that sort of issue may very well be under warranty, depending on when the phone was manufactured. But, you probably voided it if you opened it up and changed a component in it
The only other advice I can offer, outside of buying a new phone, would be to take it to a third party repair shop. If you're in the U.S., Verizon has an independent franchise called Wireless Zone that I believe does phone and tablet repairs. I'd see if there's one in your area. Me personally, I think I'd just avoid the hassle and buy a new phone, but it's up to you. Not sure how much you can find a D4 for on eBay or Craigslist these days, but I'd go that route. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck!

I had dropped it many times(I'm very clumsy with my phone) before that. This was not even the worst drop of them all so it really confuses me too. I did buy it off ebay so there was no hope for warranty which is why I went down the try and fix it myself route. I did exactly as you said a few days ago. I gave up and bought another one off craigslist. A case is already on the way too so this does not happen again. My theory is that the connections from the front half of the phone(the led/digitizer, etc) where the two pieces attach back to the circuit board have gone bad somehow. I zombiefied the phone with just the circuit board and the screen to see if pressing in different spots would fix anything but to no avail. I'm just going to hold on to it for awhile and mess with it in my spare time now hehe. Thanks for the advice!
Edit: I just wish Motorola would come out with the Droid 5 or some other new smartphone with a keyboard. I guess I'm old school but I can't go with a touchscreen only phone

Ah, ok. Well, that's still pretty crazy that it happened. Sorry for the delayed response, but anyway glad to hear that you've got a new one on the way, and a new case coming too.
Yeah, I'm the same way. I got the D4 cuz I really like having a keyboard. Unfortunately, it looks like it may be the last keyboard phone to come out for a while, if ever. But on a sidenote, a lot of the newer phones with big screens have really good touchscreens that I think wouldn't be so bad to type on. My girlfriend's GS3 is awesome. I think I could get used to it. And even if you get touchscreen only phone, I do believe that there are a number of third party keyboards you can buy that will plug into the phone. That will probably be the way to go in the future.
