automatic send/receive in waking hours? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is there a way to make email accounts only automatically send/receive during normal waking hours? I an fed up with altering the options of pocket outlook every morning and evening in order to avoid being woken up with new mail every hour of the night.....

I don't believe that is posible.

if you get BandSwitch you can set the time that you reqiure a data connection,
no connection no automatic email.

This free program is for you:

You can set the send/receive schedules what ever way you want.
I have my accounts syncing from 9am to 6pm in every 30min, AND only on weekdays... There is much more functions, like close data after, use wifi and so on... Check it out...

WLAN turning on by itself....

Hello everyone!
Just moved from a P3600 to the P4550 and noticed something strange twice in the last 4 days. When I looked at the display in the morning (phone and WLAN were off overnight.....hardly ever turn on WLAN, as I only use it when travelling) I found that WLAN had switched itself on sometime during the night. What gives?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
This happens to me also if:
(1) ActiveSync is set to "as items arrive" (i.e. push)
(2) There is no phone signal.
Apparently AS looks for the Exchange server, and not being able to find a phone signal, turns on Wifi to see if it can connect like that.
I suppose this will also happen if you have AS set to poll mail at intervals. When the interval time arrives, I guess AS will want to go online and - not being able to use the phone signal - will turn on Wifi.
Very annoying as it drains the battery. It does NOT turn Wifi off after a while.
Oh well.

Oh - an afterthought: in CONNECTIONS I have set both programs accessing the net and programs accessing a private network configured to use MY WORK NETWORK. Don't know if fiddling around with that may stop AS turning on WifI.
Should you find a solution, please post coz I would like to fix this bug/feature too.
Hmmm.....if this theory is correct then going to flight-mode instead of just turning the phone off - should effectively not allow any kind of connections.....will check tomorrow....

Kaiser and Exchange Server

hi guys,
I've synched my device up to my companies exchange server and the kaiser uses 3G to connect the device to exchange. However, i've realised that the battery is severely killed off...can someone tell me if they share the same issue?
I'll get from 100% to 80% in 2 hours.
Do you have any suggestions?
Can i edit/change any settings to make the battery last longer AND still keep mobile web connectivity?
Hmmm...
Me and my collaegues have the same problem. We sync our Kaiser/MDA VArio III over the Inernet using EDGE. Using Active sync over the air in HTTPS. batter is dead in 2 days. Some calls, some SMSs, synchronizing every hour and in 2 days is dead. You can make some configurations like via KaiserTweak Function in user defined timeout kill EDGE/3G, or synchronize every hour or 2 hrs, not using direct push (long TCP conection etc). But in finale, battery can alive about 2 or 4 hrs longer but no more. Battery in Kaiser is little bit ****ty.
P.S. if you are often on the road, always use car charger
its a known problem that 3G drains the battery a lot. you will get much higher battery life if you turn it off when not needed. there are several threads about battery life already
Are either of you on ATT? I have posted several times about losing the ability to sync over the air to my exchange server after a rom flash. I fixed a previous rom flash with proxy settings, but its not working now. Can you provide me with the exact settings for your connection (to the internet) i.e., My ISP or MEdia net? I would appreciate it. Thanks,

Wifi/Email Problems from Stand-by/Sleep Mode (Tytn II)

Hi,
My Tytn II seems to have problems waking up from stand-by and retrieving emails at via wifi connections. I have set up the send/receive schedule to 5 minutes. The only way I seem to be able to retrieve emails via wifi is to wake the phone up manually (eg. press buttons) or wait for a reminder/alarm to sound which wakes the phone up.
Interestingly it doesn't have any problem waking up from stand-by/sleep to retrieve emails via a cellular (3G/HSDPA) connection.
I've installed KaiserTweak and set up the following:
- "Battery Resume from Suspend": 90 seconds (Max)
- "Wifi Standby Mode": Disabled
When I enabled "Wifi Standby Mode", it retrieved emails on cue, but this consumed way too much battery unfortunately, so it isn't acceptable.
I would really appreciate any ideas on how I can get the Tytn II retrieving emails according to the schedule by waking itself up from stand-by/sleep.
Thanks very much,
Prembo
It's not gonna work for you unless you enable the wifi standby mode. How can it know if you have emails if it doesn't have a data connection? The 3G connection will stay active while the phone is in standby, and as such can grab the emails on cue. But by allowing the wifi go into standby when the phone is in standby, you're effectively turning off the internet connection altogether. Either have the wifi standby turned off, or have it retrieve by 3G.
My 3G/HSDPA connection doesn't remain on permanently either.
I have it set (using KaiserTweak) to disable Data Connections (3G/HSDPA) after 1 minute of use. So my 3G/HSDPA is off whilst in stand-by mode most of the time.
However, the email retrieve schedule wakes up the Data Connection and then retrieves email. It doesn't seem to be able to however to wake up the Wifi connection and retrieve emails.
Enabling "Wifi Standby Mode" permanently leaves wifi connection active even during standby, therefore draining the battery significantly.
But it seems to be a fairly straightforward thing to wake the wifi connection up (just as it does the cellular connection) based on the email retrieve schedule.
PS. I'm connecting to the work network via wifi and therefore don't have access to work emails via cellular network.

Why I dont receive alerts when screen is turn off?

Hi everyone...
There is a problem with my nexus one.
I downloaded some clients for MSN like MSN Talk, Hi MSN, Meebo and eBuddy, but I receive alerts from these clients only when screen is turn on. If i turn off the screen, I never receive alerts.
Then, when I turn on the screen, I receive all alerts at same time.
Have any way to enable alerts when screen is turn off?
Sorry for my english
EDIT: The same happens with Gmail, Google Talk...
Are you using wifi? Maybe your wifi sleep policy is set to disconnect when the screen is off.
Thanks for your answer.
Yes, I'm using wifi, but my wifi sleep policy is set to never disconnect.
EDIT: I made a test.
I set wifi sleep policy to "Never".
Then, from other computer in same network, I executed the command "ping" to network address from nexus. I received answers.
Then, I turn off the screen and repeat the same test and now I didn't receive answers!
Why the OS don't honor my settings? Is it a hardware or software issue?

[Q] WiFi Always on

I have the Galaxy S I9000
If I turn on the Wifi and its got a signal, will that take over from my Network usage on the broadband.
I only download emails to my phone (7 Accounts) but this month my Usage has been very high.
Normally each month reads 830Mb/1GB (Mb's left/Allowance) Give or take 50Mb
This month it was 131.33Mb/1Gb
I don't know where the usage has gone as I'm doing nothing different then before.
Most of my usage is 5-30 Kb with the odd 600 Kb
I checked my data usage over 4 days and its averaging about 2.8Mb a day. I can't see how I have used almost 1Gb for a month.
The only things added to the phone in the last month was Amazon Kindle/Xbox Live and PowerAMP
When I download a book from Amazon I always turn on my WiFi and have 3-4 bars.
Is my phone using my Network Data usage even though I have the WiFi on.
PS my wife has 1 email address on her phone and see never uses her data for anything other then checking her Gmail. She only had 17 simple text emails last month and here usage was also reading 133.78Mb/1Gb. I can't see how she has used up her quota for the month.
Both phone are on separate accounts and connected to the METEOR IRELAND network.
If I turn on the Wifi and its got a signal, will that take over from my Network usage on the broadband.
Not unless you turn the mobile data OFF >. suggest quick settings from the market .
I only download emails to my phone (7 Accounts) but this month my Usage has been very high.
Smartphone is data always on and background sync and apps use data 24 hours .
Unless turned off >. Quick settings mobile data off unless needed .

I installed Quick Settings and turned off mobile data but left on MMS data.
Thanks for the help with this. It means that I can now disable mobile data quickly when I'm in a wifi hot spot.
Because everything loads quickly when my WiFi is on (A lot quicker then when its off) I assumed it was not using mobile data at all. Silly me
Just carried out a little test on the phone using Quick Settings.
I turned off WiFi and enabled mobile data, I then turned on WiFi and the Mobile Data automatically disconnected when the WiFi was enabled.
I'm not sure if it always did this or if its only since in installed quick settings.
If Mobile Data does not switch off then in quick settings you can use Mobile Data APN as the preferred setting for on /off .
I am using Auto Wifi toggle with quick settings to aid battery life .

I cant explain your problem, but I use a program called Tasker that might solve your issue.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
I have it set to turn on 3G when I unlock the screen and turn it off again when the screen turns off. I also turn on 3G for two minutes every 30 minutes and auto-sync my email.
With this program you can also set you WiFi to turn on based on your location and a host of other things. There is a 7 day trial in the Market.
I installed 3G watchdog about a month ago and I have been keeping an eye on my data usage.
Since the month started I have only used about 10mb. This its consistent with every other month since I got the phone.
I think the high usage last month was a network issue. Its something I'm going to have to keep an eye on as I don't want the buggers charging me for something I haven't used.
