I picked up an Audiovox branded Blue Angel today for a whole $10. It was sold through Telus, the local CDMA cell provider here in Vancouver Canada. As such it has no SIM socket and no wifi. GetDeviceData tells me it's a PH20A2. Does this mean it's a Harrier? I probably shouldn't be trying to understand all of this when I'm so tired.
It's in pretty good shape, but a touch uninteresting as-is. So of course I want to try updating it.
Before I do, would there be any interest in the Telus provided files in the EXT ROM and such?
I copied the files out of the EXT ROM so I could restore it if I mess things up.
It contained:
AutoRun.exe
Config.txt
HTC_Album_WWE.CAB
HTC_Button9.sa.CAB
HTC_FixCamera_18157.sa.CAB
HTC_PhonePH_v2.4.0.CAB
HTC_Qwerty_Indicator.sa.CAB
HTC_rtp_harrier_qcp.cab
HTC_WLNP_Telus.sa.CAB
HTC_WModem.sa.CAB
Telus.sa_modtsk.CAB
telus_software_store_v12.cab
TPDisable.exe
TPEnable.exe
Version.sa.CAB
It's running Windows Mobile 2003 SE, and the about dialog says it's version 4.21.1088 build 14235.2.0.0
Now, after all that I'm a little confused about what will and won't run on here.
I haven't seen any updates for a Telus/audiovox phone, and I'm not sure how compatible the others are.
It sounds like WM5 and 6 are right out. Is that because this phone's CDMA instead of GSM?
What about versions of 2003SE? EXT ROM stuff?
I hope someone can clear this up for me so I can start having fun with this device.
Now I'm going to sleep.

The fact that it is CDMA makes it a Harrier.
What software that wll run on 2003 is what you are limited to. Currently, there isn't any WM5/6 ROMs available for CDMA devices.
You might want to check on the status of the WM5 for Harrier project (thread is in the forum) and see if they have gotten any further.

No, I have many sources reporting many things, and some things I can talk about (mostly what's out there) and somethings I can't (mostly not what's out there).
I wrote the PPC-6600 "Upgrade" article to force Sprint to disclose on-the-record that an upgrade will be offered for existing owners. It was a clear, yet at the same time, carefully worded piece of consumer advocacy, and it served its purpose. When everything's disclosed I think it will be clear why. Regardless of what the 6700 does turn out to be, 6600 owners would have been otherwise left feeling forced to upgrade.
What I have said all along as to what the 6700 is, is that it is a device that would not be motivating for other 6600 owners to upgrade to for the most part with the exception of it is EV-DO enabled.

Telus is starting it's evdo network in the first quater of 2006. Hopefully we should get an update offered to us as well.
I don't think telus' version of the ppc6600 has evdo enabled out of the box. <- can someone check on this??
I havn't done any upgrades yet.. as there havn't been any offered to date.
The bluetooth stack on this unit is fairly stable and the radio and ext rom are both one of the newest versions available. I've only found rom updates for GSM units and others that are incompatible with our CDMA version of the ppc6600.
I'm not sure how many other countries are using this exact model of ppc6600. I know new zeland telecom, sprint & verison, telus and bell are using the same. That should indicate that if sprint releases an update, then so will the others. Sprints update renames their model of ppc6600 to ppc6700...
When that time comes, paying ANOTHER ~600 bucks would be outrageous. The phone just came out here and I paid the 350 w/ 3 yrs contract. I would pay for an update of course but it would have to be reasonable... 600+ is not. If sprint DOES release an update, it will make its way to xda. By that time, hopefully, the forum here should recognize our ppc6600 and make a separate section for us where we can test and update our models f.o.c.
I'm hopeing that if and when there is an update, wm2005 is included but I dont think it will be. It will happen. Eventually someone will sort it all out, and then we can live in wm2005 land happily ever after.
Well I bit the bullet and only signed a one year contract with Telus, that's as much as I can stomach with them. As far as EVDO goes I am not so sure. Telus is on strike so not much will happen and they are projecting this might go until 2006. What I would really like to see is to have them finalize the Number Portability business and then I could take my number and go GSM. I think that is the best option we have right now for getting WM5 on a device in Canada aside from I-mate and Rogeres.
did you update your ext rom? where did the .115 come from?
gimee gimee gimee!!!!!
is ther any improvement over the .00 release?

Actually all that was already installed on the device and I have dumped it here if you want to grab it. Should be in wiki.
If so, could you let us know how the WIFI and phone perform?
Thanks
AT&T isn't big this side of the pond, AFAIK.
I do own an unbranded kaiser, and everything is fine, wifi and phone-wise.
Thank you.
How did you purchase it?
Is it possible to do so without being an AT&T customer?
I don't think AT&T are in Europe so you either buy the original HTC TyTN II without a contract or get the branded devices on T-Mobile etc.
Try Mobile Planet / Expansys:
http://www.mobileplanet.com/
Can't, I need a PPC without cameras
Due to corporate policy.
do you have to poke your eyes out, too ?
as i understand it, ATT sells a de-featured kaiser in US ?
Sorry I didn't realise there was a version with no camera!
You won't get an AT&T one in Europe I'm afraid
Something like that...

Yes, they do. But AFAIK the only feature missing is the cameras.
In addition, I understand that AT&T have pre-loaded all sort of demo apps etc to ROM, which lower the amount of free memory, but I assume this is solved by installing the regular Kaiser ROM or any other cooked ROM.
I don't have any experience in this, so I'm slowly going over the many excellent posts here.
When at&t released the 8525 we also had a 8500 which was a cameraless version. Precisely why these exist in this context, I can't say. The Tilt's internal designation is the 8925 and I now see that an 8900 is available for order from our internal equipment catalog. I can see if I can get my hands on one for you if you like?
That would be very helpful.
What is the cost?
Thanks!
Hi,
i have just bought an O2 Stellar (unlocked) from ebay. Until now i have always got my phones direct form the network so a used phone is a first for me. My current device is a Tytn (TM Vario II)
What do i need to do when it arrives in order to get it working with my Tmobile SIM?
I intend on trying some new roms on it after xmas, are there any that favour gps performance? i am hoping to do a bit of geocaching.

Welcome to xda-dev. The first thing you should do as a new person here is to read the wiki for Kaisers (which includes the XDA Stellar, O2s variant), also the sticky posts here. There's lots of info there that'll be helpful. I've never owned a Stellar, just the generic HTC version but I would imagine unless it's already been unlocked by the previous owner, it'll be sim locked to O2 so you may need to unlock it. The simple way to see if this is the case is to try your T-Mobile sim in it. I think it'll depend where you reside as to whether other changes will be required because not all T-Mobile network characteristics are the same and some locations have specialist/uncommon settings.
As far as ROMs with good GPS performance go, the current UK World Wide English Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM has very poor GPS performance here in the UK compared to the original Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM and that seems to be fairly common with many of the WM 6.1 ROMs although different radios teld to make a difference according to reports here. Again it'll depend where you reside.
hi,
the device had better be unlocked.. it is advertised as so! It is claimed it is only 6 months old and came unlocked from the network. I guess being only six months old it will have a 6.1 rom already on it so i'll see how i get on wth that first then think about putting the older rom on it.
i am in UK, East Lothian to be a little more precice.
hi,
i am really struggling to get my phone to work for internet settings for t-mobile.
can anyone tell me the password for tmobile internet or is it user specific?
I just found this FANTASTIC thread :

anyone needing phone setting should go here!!!
Here is the OEM and SYS packages from the telus rhodium release and the spl.
Note that this is a CDMA rom, but as it's a worldphone it does have gsm stuff too. I don't know how much use any of it will be, but figured it couldn't hurt to get a rom out there.

Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but Telus and Bell (in Canada), have recently partnered on a project to go to GSM.
From my source, the switch is gonna be happening Nov. 4, of course they will still support the old CDMA until all those old units are phased out...
Thanks for the files!
Any chance that you would have the Verizon OEMs?

Very common knowledge. Bell and Telus will launch HSPA for the upcoming olympics and hope to have a soft launch across most of the country come September and into the fall. Those will be the big centers with the rest of the network covering 85-90% of canada for Q1 2010.
Thanks for your share, mate
I'm working in your dump to solve the bth voice call issue.
I bought my HD2 from Telstra to use on AT&T. When I received it I couldn't get it to work on AT&T with the factory ROM and had to HSPL/Reflash it. What are the thought on the HD7 from Telstra working with an AT&T sim on the AT&T network? I would really hate to go back to a smaller screen and honestly the surround seems a bit kitchy.
You probably will have to have it sim unlocked. Thats easier than flashing a rom, but with WP7 I don't know.
i want to do the same thing i need an HD7 on at&t
i am on the same page
I am using a telstra hd2 on us att 3g, i switch between wm 6.5.x and android 2.2 desire rom, i've been using android a lot more lately, because i got tired of squeezing functionality out of winmo when its already there with android (tired of second rate facebook, foursquare apps etc ), alas i really want WP7 to succeed and will be there to support it, but i do not want to downgrade to a smaller device to stay on at&t, I have a cheap unlimited data plan (at&t thinks im using a
little nokia phone for data), the A list where i use my google voice for calls and have accrued over 3,000 roll over minutes,so it looks like ill be forking over $800 bucks again for a telstra hd7 if that's the case, i imagine though when i sell my unlocked hd2 running on att 3g network with dual operating systems i may get a decent penny on ebay to contribute towards the telstra hd7 purchase
and also has anyone else using this phone have found little support for those running android on it or anything else? sometimes i feel like im the only guy in the united states with a telstra hd2 and everyone else is using the tmo usa one, all the forums talk about the euro hd2 and the tmo usa one
im in the same boat, but with Bell in canada..i use the Telstra HD2 and from the looks of things were just getting the LG with the keyboard and a 3.5in screen..looks awful. im hoping the same with the HD7, just a matter of whether they can be sim unlocked. ill be keeping my eye on it and hoping for the best anyway.
Is it telstra even getting the hd7?
Seems like Telstra will be getting the HD7 exclusively in 2011 similar to what happened with the HD2.
Launch availability will be T-Mobile(US) O2(England/Germany) and SingTel(Singapore) none of which support UMTS/HSDPA 850.
Strange because according to these guys the HD7 will be coming to Telstra in November: http://smarthouse.com.au/Phones/Mobile/X6L9N4K3
And for those of us that bought the Telstra HD2 we may recall the device came factory unlocked. Great for me as I'm using it on Telus in Toronto, Canada.
I looked at our launch line up here as well and our choices are pretty weak. I've read someone confirmed the Dell Venue Pro will work for us on the North American bands. That's my second choice.
But I think the HD7 from Telstra will be good to go. Except we'll be stuck with a Telstra Hub until someone figures out how to flash new roms lol..

You can uninstall the operator's hub, it'll just come back at each hard reset
front facing camera?
is it possible to find someone who can install a front facing camera as well? I would pay who ever could do it, it can be done with the samsung vibrant, it is really disappointing there is no ffc installed
and now im worried once i import the hd7 from telstra will there be roms that i can use to remove the telstra hub and skins? I doubt a hard reset will remove this, we are all venturing into new ground here indeed
there are no skins, and the carrier apps can be uninstalled

According to this article "Unfortunately the elusive HTC HD7 is not available at launch. It’s officially slated to be available exclusively through Telstra next year in 2011. You would be wise to bet the first half of the year."
I honestly believe it will be worth the wait.
Were you able to use your Telstra HD2 on AT&T straight out of the box? I ask this because I could not. It was indeed sim unlocked, but didn't work for me. Granted I only tested it once and then HSPL/Flash to NRG.

When you say "uninstall" I assume then you mean just remove their hub from the homescreen without actually uninstalling their software.

Odd that on the same day 2 different stories would be printed. One saying it's available next month, the other saying next year. Guess we'll know for sure by November if it doesn't actually arrive.
For me personally it worked on the Telus network right out of the box, even before I HSPL'd it. The only hassle was setting up the data and mms manually. But later I found a few custom roms that did that for me.
Review of the HD7 PCWorld AU
"This Telstra-exclusive Windows Phone 7 smartphone will launch in Australia in January 2011."
Anyone have a time machine?
The UK carrier O2 is also adding the HD7 to their line up for Oct. and has quad band GSM:
http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Oct2010/o2-add-htc-hd7-windows-phone-7-smartphone.html
Based on my previous knowledge of quad band phones it should support the more popular 850/900/1800/1900 bands.. that being said can someone with more knowledge than myself confirm whether this would work similarly to the Telstra version?

Actually flashing a ROM won't work. You can't unlock the SIM by flashing another ROM, you have to get the unlock code regardless.
Most carriers do it for free or you can find a site online that will do it for a charge.
The OS does not effect SIM UNLOCKING so I do not see any change with WP7

GSM (2G) is 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSDPA (3G) is more than likely 900/2100 where AT&T is 850/1900
