I am looking for something simple but I am unable to find it.
I have upgraded to WM6 and I want PIE to scroll by line.
That's it.
PIEPLUS 2.2 used to work on WM5 but scrolling behavior is broken on WM6 - now it always scrolls by link ("Like IE").
MULTIIE 4.0 doesn't do it either.
I have tried Picsel and Opera but they have their own shortcomings.
The human brain isn't designed for page scrolling - we need nice smooth incremental scrolling. At least my brain isn't.
Help someone?
Search forum for thread about customizing PIE "KEYS". Relatively simple registry edits or there are tools that will set them up for you.
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately these keys just provide for link and page scrolling. Line scrolling with the D-pad means that when you have a screen of text it will always scroll a predictable number of lines, regardless of links on the page.
OK, solved my own problem.
Smooth scrolling (including with finger like iPhone), full page view with zoom in (like Deepfish), full javascript support (unlike Deepfish), nice reformat for one column (unlike PIE).
Full screen too (press the * key).
Which browser? Opera Mini 4 (again) but with a different Java VM this time (allows softkey support, full screen and copy/paste) and now I have exactly the browsing experience I was looking for. Even on a Treo 240x240 screen.

Best of all ... it's free.
yep, very nice browser. Been using v4 since it was released. Esmertec Java works the best for me (looks like that's what you went with too).
TIP: Exclude the java executable from your touch software since it already supports finger scrolling. Allows it to work a little more smoothly IMO.
Yes, Esmertec Java made all the difference. The previous JVM I was using was slow, didn't use the top and bottom of the screen since the WM6 menu bars were always on and cut and paste didn't work.
I have got a direct link shortcut set up, it launches as the default browser for email links and it no longer security prompts for net access. I'm happy.
I have tried all the alternatives (Picsel, PIEplus, Thunderhawk etc) and I have finally found the one that works for me. Anyone still using PIE should give this free browser a try (with Esmertec), it's really nice.
How can I get rid of the security warning and make Opera mini my default browser?
And how do I exclude the touch stuff?
Thanks
this thread has the instructions I used for setting default, disabling security warnings and one click launch ...

Hi,
Right been doing some digging around the forum to try to get to grips with how to use Touchflo on my Kaiser (Vodaphone v1615 WM6.1 build), but haven't really found an answer. I can see an icon in settings for Touchflo that just says enable sound when scrolling, but i don't get any other options to enable it.
How do i enable default HTC (cube) touchflo on my Kaiser? or is it not part of the Tytn2 standard build? I have tried Ftouchflo which works, but am after looking at default HTC stuff before looking at other implementations etc as the ftouchflo stuff didnt quite work as i wanted.
Thanks in advance

Right been having a bit of a play...and think i need some further help lol. At the moment I haven't installed the HTC Cube (found links for it elsewhere on the forum) and am just playing with the finger scrolling. Out of the box i can't scroll in contacts or calendar etc but have installed Opera 9.5 and that works a treat...not sure if thats part of Touchflo support or anything .
I then installed FtouchSL (Trial version) and get scrolling working (though it says it will disable Touchflo scrolling) in contacts, but not calendar (i.e left right to go through days etc). Then Opera 9.5 does not work with finger scrolling at all.
I have now removed FTouchSl and wondering how i get scrolling to work with inbuilt Touchflo? I would like to be able to finger scroll through contacts and calendar for example.
Cheers

Leave off the FTouchSL for now. Find and install schaps advanced config and set make sure TouchFlo is enabled in there. My contants works with Finger Scrolling. My current calender is TouchCal and that is already FF (Finger Friendly) you can try it for nowt. Opera I think has it's own touch scrolling.
Also try pocket CM as a FF contacts app. Or install HTC Random Access, this adds FF letters into normal contacts.

edit2: I agree with everything you state in post 3.
ok, this one definitely feels good! quicker, feels more stable with certain websites that weren't as stable with the previous builds, and the animations seems much smoother. I still couldnt get f7 to work properly with youtube websites(kept freezing) But overall it seems of an upgrade!
I'm having the same issue I had with the last version posted and that is Opera will hang at the launch / splash screen and I can not kill the processes either, however I can still use the phone and launch other apps, but the splash screen stays on top. I have to soft reset to get back to normal.

its either the rom your using or its conflicting with another software.
So far this version seems like a definite improvement - the biggest being that I can now use the 'automatic full screen' option without it changing to full screen half way through typing an address on my Kaiser keyboard!
Haven't come across any bugs as yet.
initial testing shows:
- overall speed/feel increase
- addressbar doesn't auto-hide when typing w/ hardkeys in auto-minimize mode
bug: after closing out of opera in landscape mode, left my tilt in left-handed landscape mode. had to go to settings->system->display to bring it back into portrait mode.
Testing on June 29 ryncppr v6, 1.58.25.17 radio, hardspl 3.56
Bug: When using the hardware keyboard to fill in fields on a webpage, the field that is being typed in sometimes looses focus after each letter is selected on the keyboard. If the software keyboard is used, the problem does not occur.
With 8.65, i could copy the opera6 adr file that i have saved on my sd card and paste it into the opera folder to import my bookmarks after flashing, etc. This doesn't seem to work with opera 9. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Build 1184 vs 1409
In Build 1184 when I pressed an internet link in an email Opera 9.5 would load the page not PIE. With build 140p, PIE loads the page and not Opera Mobile. I have looked in the settings etc and can not find a way to make Opera Mobile my "default browser" Is this possible? If so how?
i'm still getting the missing address bar when typing on the kaiser keyboard. im still using wm6. anyone else still has the problem?

I am using the Titan with windows mobile six and am also having this problem with opera mobile 9.5. Anybody with a fixed build?
Yup - my vario III on standard rom does this - I can only type one letter in from the keyboard before the focus is lost. Also it's not running as the default browser and there is no option to set this :-(
Looks lovely though....
Default Browser key:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/: DEFBROWSER/1
Note: the above key is "colon and capital 'D' together" but the board makes it into a grin icon. lol
by default, it should be ":MSPIE", you can change it to the location of OperaL.exe, generally "\windows\operal.exe"
Bug: RSSHub is no longer able to open a link, it gives the error "file http://.... cannot be opened"
Fix: RSSHub seems to be connected to pocket ie. you will need to reset all registry references back to pocket ie and THEN apply the default browser registry hack. ( soft reset after all that )

Dissapearing Address Bar
I am using WM 6.1 (one of Duttys hybrid ROMs) and still ahve the issue with the sddress bar dissapearing before I am finished typing.
I still believe it may be related to Opera not recognizing the pull out (hard) keyboard, or perhaps it is related to the Diamond XT9 keyboard in my ROM....
Any info. appreciated!

Michael

Has anyone figured out how to use the Tytn II's jog dial to zoom dynamically in Opera Mobile 9.5 like on the Diamond? Double tapping the screen is nice, but with a 2.8in screen and QVGA, zooming into 100% really leaves us with a small viewing area. I would like to easily zoom in/zoom out to what ever level I want like Diamond users can using their touch scroll wheel/jog dial, or like iPhone users can using multi-touch pinching on their capacitative screens.
What I know so far:
-input.ini (located in \Application Data\Opera 9.5) has options to change the hardware key configurations, but I haven't had much success in playing around with it, except for getting the font to zoom using the wheel.
-navigating to opera:config in Opera's address bar gives a ton of options, including some that control zoom behavior. But I haven't seen anything that let you assign keys to zooming.
-opera.ini (located in \Application Data\Opera 9.5) has some zoom control options.
that would be really awesome someones gotta build a tweak for this!! for skyfire as well because watching like a youtube video is difficult cus default zoom zooms in too much so its hard to get a full screen ...
As far as I know our wheel is directly "connected" to the "joystick" (the 4 directions pad under the screen). So even if somebody find a solution, it will disable the scroll possibility.
But your right, even with that, it could be a great feature.
There is also the possibility to use the latest build from Opera 9.5 (1957) taken from an Omnia, here.
If you scroll up / down on the right of your screen, you can now zoom in/out .

The new zoom feature in opera is brilliant.
here's a little image
Nice find! But it looks buggy, and the sizing seems optimized for the Omnia (given that there is overlap between the zoom bar and Opera menu button).
Two bits of info though.
1. In HTC Album, the jog dial (at least on the Touch Cruise) functions independently of the D-pad directions. Jog dial zooms, whereas D-Pad pans. So the functions can be separated.
2. In the Diamond, the jog wheel doesn't function as a jog wheel by default. It actually does absolutely nothing in most of the interface. If you want it to function, it has to be hacked to do so by specifying the programs in which you want it to function in the registry (HKLM/Software/HTC/SmartTouch/)
It's funny to see this thread as i was thinking the same thing a few months ago when i first got opera 9.

I think that by the time it leaves beta then they're going to have the zoom sorted...
Oh and a nice Opera Widget collection would be nice as well
Is there any way to zoom in Opera Mobile?
Are you guys using 6.1 roms? I for the life of me cannot get any build of 9.5 to run.

Yes, if you use the official 9.5 beta available on the website (and I'd guess any other build) you can just double tap the screen to zoom in or out. Otherwise, you can go through the menu system to zoom in/out in increments.

This may or may not help as I have a Touch Cruise (Polaris), but I'm using an official WM6 ROM, and the official 9.5 Beta available on the Opera website.
In R2AA i've get used to the optical joystick (d-pad) to slide really smooth through internet pages in the Opera Browser. A few days ago I've upgraded to R3AA and suddenly the smooth scrolling is gone. Sliding with the optical joystick will let the page jumps (in pretty big steps) instead of smooth kinetic scrolling. So scrolling with the optical joystick isn't that effective and precise anymore...
I've done a lot of settings by enter opera:config into the address bar, but that didn't do the trick. I've also used the "solution" in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444694 but they had a different problem (the optical joystick just moves a highlight between the links on the page), so that didn't work for me.
Does someone knows a solution? Maybe by posting the input.ini or opera.ini file from a Generic R2AA phone will help.
I am also having this same issue.
Opera flips through pages rather than scroll smoothly.
And "smooth scrolling" in opera config is enabled btw.
A friend of mine has the same issue. It was fine after he installed R3A, but after a couple of days he noticed the "jumping". I guess some fo the programs that you have installed messed Opera up?
I thought, just bring the thread back to the front
I don't think it has to do with any other program I've installed. I installed exactly the same programs after I've upgraded from R2A to R3A... But on the other hand, if it worked smoothly for a couple of days after upgraded to R3A (as you mentioned orelsi), and than suddenly the smooth scrolling in Opera was gone.... hhmmm that's a different story.
All I want is my smooth scrolling back, but I don't wanna hard reset my device to test it... it's a hell of a job with all the installations and settings and stuff.
I still believe by posting the input.ini or opera.ini file from a Generic R2AA phone (maybe) will help. Or if someone else have an other suggestion?

Sigh...facepalm... Just like he said it is software incompatibility. How could you not understand that the programs cause it? Obviously you installed the same programs and obviously the programs conflict in the new firmware. And once again, obviously the programs conflicted in R3A but not R2A. Sigh... think people...think!
Has nothing to do with software incompatibility. Fresh install of UK generic ROM R3A. And the same thing is occurs with opera's scrolling. Its not smooth as it used to with the previews ROMs.

Ok, to be honest, I'm not sure what's the cause and I'm not sure if it's a program conflict in R3A, but I don't like the way you use the word "obviously". Obviously with a fresh R3A ROM installation the same thing occurs...
I've also installed Opera 9.7 beta, but first I don't like the version right now (text is pretty blurry) and second, scrolling with the optical joystick jumps between links instead of free scrolling.
I have just updated mine to the new rom and opera is also jumping about in big blocks now instead of smooth scrolling like it used to.
Has anybody found a fix for this yet?
You can still have smooth scrolling by using your finger to scroll the screen
I see the need for this thread to be created as i recently flashed MaryOne 0.03, and to my shock and horror, not only there was no kinetic scrolling in file explorer also in start menu and even in in Manila tabs.
Some people apparently have reported similar problem in Laurentius V3 Thread, which leads me to a reasonable conclusion of starting this thread
I noticed this in MaryOne, Xannytech and Laurentius V3. I even created a youtube video while i had Laurentuis V3 as proof of my problem, below is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-CglGWxZRw
Short information:
1. My device is unbranded when originally bought.
2. I use USPL 2.5
3. First ever flash from stock ROM was Dutty 3.9XT.
4. PC OS is Windows Vista 32 upgraded sync drivers as per Digital outcast instructions for USPL 2.5
When i flashed Laurentius V3 (i really persevered as this was very much anticipated after spending a good few days being beta tested) I flashed to stock ROM first 2 HR, then flashed Laurentius V3, HR 2x no help, redownloaded ROM, reflashed HR 2x still the problem persisted. in the end i flashed Miri V29 and no problem encountered, kinetic scrolling was everywhere, like all other Miri ROMs I've flashed.
Then came Miri Rev11, no problem, then came MaryOne 0.03, I thought i might try the 23xxx windows version as i have tried them before with Phamquang ROMs, and I really liked the smooth round buttons at the bottom, but then man 2.5 was in its infancy and was too buggy for daily use, again the problem was back. So now i am in Dutty R7, which is to me the penacle of Man 2.5 evolution.
I am not very clever at registry editing and I have no knowledge with programming (c++ etc) but with the creation of this thread, the aim is to shed more light on this problem.
I also know there is resco explorer which is a good alternative. but this is like choosing the easy way without solving the problem itself face on.
Thanks to anyone who may contribute to to this thread. A good history of flashing, flashing method, and if the blackstone was branded or unbranded or any information which may shed some light would be helpful.
the aims are:
1. To gather as much people as possible who has encountered this problem.
2. Hoping to attract the attention of people with extensive knowledge of Windows Mobile and eventually come to a reasonable outcome.
This happens because of a package called 'TouchFLO'. It is needed for the buttons to work, but also it activates HTC's finger scroll designed for WM6.1. Unfortunately there is no way to completely disable the scrolling feature, and it overrides WM6.5 kinetic scrolling. However, TFLO scrolling can be disabled for individual apps via a regkey:
[HKLM\Sofware\OEM\TFLOSetting\TFLOIgnoreAPPs]
eg: "fexplorer"="fexplorer.exe"
kinetic scrolling will then work in those apps. When cooking a rom, commonly used apps, like fexplorer.exe should be added to exclusions.
The only way to completely disable TFLO scrolling is to modify biotouch.dll.

thanks for your input! very much appreciated, will try this as soon as i get tired with the present ROM im in.
here is a list of apps that can be added to ignore list
Are you talking about no scroll at all or speed sensitive to touch kinetic scroll.
The newer latest builds the scrolling is not as good and seems more restrictive than on previous versions.

I am able to scroll yes, but its movement is like in Win 6.1, there is no drag and rebound effect when i am at the top and at the bottom of the files. also the motion of the files when scrolling (sliding thumb up) isn't fluid.
