I am trying to use Sprite to backup my Tilt but it requires a restart. When it restarts, the device is locked because I have Good installed and Good requires a password. When I enter the password Sprite does not do the backup. Any ideas? Thanks
Back up the shortcut for Good that is in the start up folder, then delete it from the start up folder. Do your backup then copy paste the shortcut for Good back into place.

Thank you. It won't let me delete the file because it says it is in use. It's not showing as an active program so it must be running in the background. Any ideas how to stop it?
Thanks.
I also had some Sprite backup issues. After upgrading to their version 6.1, the problems went away.

You should have no problem deleting or moving a shortcut as it is only a link and not a running program.
Are you sure you are in 'Windows' 'Startup' and not somewhere else?
Try copying and pasting it using File Explorer on the PC through Activesync connection.

I also have problems after restoring my backup. Under my start menu, office mobile was added and can not be removed. Another windows media was also added in programs. Please help.

Hi All,
I am considering upgrade from 1.6.7.1 to 2.16.9.101. The only think that still hold me is backup of my sms messages.
My question is - Is there are way to back up sms messages without any backup SW (e.g. spbBack etc.)?
I know from Outlook that it holds all its mails in single file, which I can just copy to DVD and after fresh install import. I suspect that it should be the case with Pocket Outlook as well. And as long as SMS are part of Pockect Outlook, they should be kept in the same file. Where is that file and can I replace it after new ROM installation?
Thanks in advance
helo there, brother.. am here with a solution for ur problem and yet, another question aswel..
u can use jeyo mobile companion 1.1 to backup all ur sms's.. i use this to backup my sms if i hardreset my fone or reflash my rom.. really useful software.. hope this helps..
now heres my question, jeyo mobile companion doesnt allow me to back up sms's in folders, ie, i have a specific folder in my inbox for the sms my girlfriend sends me.. but wen i do the backup with jeyo mobile companion, it does not backup the msgs in the folder.. i'l hav to move the msgs to the inbox folder b4 i backup and after i restore them, i hav to move them bak to folders.. so i wud like to kno an application that would backup sms and folders as well.. thanx in advance
Well,
Your proposal is solution, however not exactly into the direction I am looking for... jeyo usage means that I have to use third party SW to backup my SMS messages and restore them afterwards.
So let me repeat what I want to do:
1. Take from my PPC file where all my SMS are stored (using file explorer and Active Sync);
2. Save this file to my laptop;
3. Flash ROM;
4. Replace new, empty file created by fresh Pocket Outlook on PPC with mine.
If somebody can tell me how to perform that sequence it will be really appreciated,
Thanks in advance
I guess they are in the root of the mobile device.. one of those .vol files maybe? You could try these files. (After you've secured your sms-messages with a third-party program of course - as a temporary solution)
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately I am not able to copy any of those files (cemail for instance). I have got the message "Cannot copy "cemail". There has been sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."
I suspect that this file is already locked by some system applications running. Any ideas are welcomed,
Regards

With spb backup you can backup only your contacts, E-mail and SMS messages if you want to, works great. I have mine backing these up every night in case of crash.
I found if you use the file explorer in the mda to copy everything to a mini sd card you overcome the "sharing violation" error.
I want to try summiters new 2.3 rom, however, i have been flashin my cingular 8125 about 3 times a week, and im sick of setting it up from scratch each time. is there something out there or can you tell me what files i need to back-up to maintain settings for:
-what speed dials are assigned
-voice dials i have saved
-my tcpmp settings
-my browser cookies so i dont have to relog in to all my porn sites
-my settings for what alert tones to use and when to use them
is it possible to back any of that crap up and restore it after a new flash? thanks pimps!
Bah, no responses. I was hoping that there was a "backup my settings" app
WELL if you are using the same rom version each time which idont think you are. then spb backup is the way to go
i mean it costs a little and you can backup your sys data as well as your settings txt msgs and **** like that. Now if you upgrade to a different rom version everytime then its not likely that you will want to back up system data as it could screw up your wm5 and then you have to reflash again.
theres also sprite too but never tried it
tried spb and it doesnt work that great. it almost works perfectly but it doesnt hmm i might retry it tho cuz i think you can specify what **** to backup
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
I've got SPB too, but I've never reflashed. Under the Custom Backup you can choose 4 things-PIM, Tasks, Email & System Data. Does anybody know if it can use everything but the "System Data" setting to restore the PIM, tasks & email after a ROM upgrade? Would it save the registry changes too? Thanks.

yes u can restore the 3 things but not the registry because it is saved on the "System Data" portion of the backup.
and gizm0luvsu is correct if you restore from a full backup it will revert the rom [os] to the one u made de backup regardless of the rom you have currently.
You can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information. After flash change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.
thanks meschle, thats what i was looking for!
Is it possible to create a *.reg file like you would in windows that can just be executed on your device importing all you registry changes. I'm not talking about a full backup...only a file that says change this value, change that value, add this dword, etc.
Possible?
Yes you can use the export function of phm reg editor (or others) of the keys you wanted to save and restore them later.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've searched the forums and google for an answer, and haven't found one:
I've gone to the PHM website: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Went to download, but I don't see a version for the OMAP processor and/or Windows Mobile 5 (WM5).
I tried using their MSI windows installer version, but when it launched ActiveSync's Add / Remove programs, PHM wasn't listed as an available application to install.
Which version do I download for use on the 8125?
Thanks, Mike

Thanks Dark, works like a champ, or rather like a registry editor champ
Hi, I'm looking for full backup method of my TyTNII before playing new application installration as my insurance...
Because sometimes system freezed during my trial, especially trial of Japanese charactor installation. (We can not go to Windows Mobile screen from hTC logo page , so I have to system reset (2 Function keys + Reset)...then retry everything...>_<
I offen use Ghost for my PC to make a backup.
Do we have any idea of making backup for TyTNII such as Ghost?
Your ideas I appreciate!
I'am use spb backup, option full... bye

Also Sprite Backup 6.1 works nice in Kaiser WM6... i think better than SPB one... but only for me
I can personally attest that SPB Backup is a lifesaver. I was able to totally restore my Tilt last night after somehow managing to erase virtually everything.
Thanks all
I tried Spb last night, then could make a backup!
Thanks!!
I like Spirit Backup 6, which works really nice.
I have Sprite and Spb, my vote is Sprite. Although there is nothing wrong with Spb, Sprite gives me more options. Like backing up to the desktop.
When Sprite says it's going to "reset the device"....what does this mean? I don't want wipe everything off of the phone.
Also, how does it connect to the PC?
TIA
Sprite does a soft reset on your phone before it starts a backup, no it doesn't wipe your phone, just a normal soft reset. I'm guessing it does this just to make sure there are no programs running that can screw up the backup..
I too can attest to how well Sprite works. I've been using it since version 3 and I must say that version 6 works GREAT with the Tytn/Kaiser/Tilt. I by mistake half installed the MS Framework services (Don't do that!! ) and had to restore from backup which worked perfectly!
Now I'm not sure if this is a function of Sprite, or ActiveSync, but once you restore with this version you won't have to fully sync again which saves you from getting duplicate contacts, calendar events. With the older version you'd always need to do a full sync and ran into the issue with duplicate info..
Good luck!

OK, it resetting now.................
Now, it's backing up...............wow, 44.1M
Resetting again................
It worked! Backed up to storage card.
Thanks A Lot,
CR
With Spb, you can, using active sync, copy your backup file from your PPC storage card, to the hard drive of your PC. Then, if necessary, you can reverse and have a backup that you can use to restore in the event that you lose your micro storage card, or that it becomes corrupt.

Thanks. I'll be hitting the road today, but will try it this week sometime.
Does Sprite and/or SPB make an "image". Or is it just backing up "data"? Is the only way to make an "image" of your device to custom cook a ROM?
I use Sprite back-up...spb works good but the last time I used spb it didn't offer an option to restore after a ROM upgrade...don't know if spb added this feature but that's the only reason why I would choose Sprite over spb...
I use Sprite BackUp,very good program and restoring between different ROM versions or different devices.
Where to Find Sprint Backup Application

i think he means it's not taking the password he put in when it asks for it, if it was put in correctly. make sure you're putting it in correctly if that's not it, then is it possible you originally put the password in wrong?
hello there, after I.ve restore the back up file, there is double icon like internet explore and extra one says internet explore (2,) and same to file expolore and file explore (2), and I couldnt delete the extra icon, did I back up wrong?

It will duplicate if you HR then make changes b4 restoring. You can use a tool like Pocket Mechanic or SK tools to easily delete duplicate shortcuts.
Otherwise you can delete them through your desktop via activesync or with a file explorer such as resco.
All of them have free trials, but I couldn't live without SK Tools.

Yes, it didn' t take the correct password. I sort it out putting the same password (6 digits) for restoring (it was 6 digits) and for locking (it was 4 digits).
Probably, it was a conflict between the 2 passwords... thnx anyway...
Hi All,
I've tried to restore my diamond about few times of hard reset. I've tried these software:
Resco Backup, backup fine but cannot restore perfectly...
Spb backup, cannot making backup file and of course cannot restore..
Sprite backup, the most recommended backup software by htc, successful back up file but also cannot restore perfectly and few waring appear after restore.....
So did anyone has successful restore diamond after hard reset? Pls share your recommended software and also the software setting. I'm really tired to reinstall all software after hard reset. B4 I'm using Spb backup for my old D810, it's work well and won't miss anything after restore.
Pls help and share your experience, thanks!!
My experience sharing
I have been backed up successfully, here below is my experience sharing, hope it would help:
The key points are
1. Make sure your storage memory must bigger than 15MB
(How to check? Start> Settings> System tab> Memory> Main tab).
2. Do not back up the “File System”. Please choose ” System Data”> uncheck “File System”.
(Note: If you back up the “File System”, it will cause an error message due to low storage memory.)
Good luck!
Try, SPB Backup again & make sure you uncheck (Stop processes before backup) under options. This should allow for it to finish the BackUp process succesfully & then restore from Hard Reset with no issues. Hope this works.
*Note*
Resco Backup, Sprite did not work correctly for me either.
I've tried spb already with your suggestion last time, but the back up file didn't restore perfectly, some important file missing as well.....
Im, not sure then. I am currently using the latest update from SBP & it worked even after a hard reset...sorry I could'nt help.

Did you try with the new Spb Backup v2? It seems to run beautifully (after unticking stop processes), but haven't tried a restore yet.
Spirite Backup TOTALLY SCREWED UP MY DIAMOND.
I tried restoring because the music player in TouchFLO 3D would no longer sound (Every other program and sound worked)

i can not agree more! only spb has the right (and safe) backup. i already used on diamond without a glitch. lots of option.
back-up! before you tweak it or try any crazy stuff BACK-UP.
Does anyone know where to get the SpriteBackup_WWE_ME file that is supposedly free for Diamond users?
I've gone on HTC's website and entered my S/N etc but when I click ok I just go to a dead link. Well done HTC
????
SPB Backup 2.01 wotk great for me and with Stop process checked.

Thank you! Good to know. I have backed up a few times with 6.5 but haven't need to restore yet...
File System problem
I am using Sprite for backing up, and time to time I get the message "Fail to backup file system".
I presume I am not the only one to get that, so I thought to write here the answer I got from Sprite Customer Service -
"There is possibly a corruption in the device registry which is disallowing Sprite Backup to backup your device. Please follow these steps to avoid the error;
1) Open Sprite Backup
2) Click 'Options'
3) Click 'Backup'
4) Click 'General'
5) Untick the box next to 'Check for corrupt registry'
6) Click 'OK' then proceed with backup as per usual."
This solved for me the issue, but I don't really know what is their definition of "corrupt registry". I did some hacks here and there, maybe anything different than the original registry is considered "corrupt"?
Does anyone have any comment on this?
thanks
