Possible workaround for "Failed to initialize camera" issue - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi everyone,
After upgrading my QTEK 9090 with WM5, I experienced the camera bug (no reaction while pressing the camera button).
Then I downloaded the "camera2k5.cab" file I found here, and installed it as mentionned.
What was strange is that the camera perfectly worked after installation, but won't after the first reset (then never worked again). After I reset the device, I always received this message : "failed to initialize camera" when I press on the camera button.
Then I tried different option by using the rollback process (reinstalling the VM5 using device only, by pressing camera and recorder button then reset...) please read the faq to get the whole process.
And I finally found one that seems to work !
1-Install the camera2k5.cab program. Do not restart the device after installation
2-Check your camera is working (at this point it should)
3-Soft-reset your device. Camera will won't work by now.
4-Then go into the Bootloader mode (see the Faq)
5-Choose these options : Enable KITL -> NO / Clean Registry -> YES / Format Storage -> NO then press the "mail" button
6-The device will be erased and at the first launch, after the initialize session, (Tap the screen to setup your device) you will receive two warning : "Camera.exe is from an unknonw publisher" and "HTCCamera.dll is from an unknonw publisher". Of course validate by YES that you want to run both of these prg.
...and then... camera is working perfectly, even after a reset !
Note that these two warning will appears once after you reset your device.
Please let me know if this procedure help you...

this should work. theoretically.
this procedure uses the working "exe" from the camera2k5.cab and the correct registry settings from your orig OS.
as long as you dont format the storage, it wont restore the NON-working orig "exe" from the flash ROM.
the only drawback on this is that there are so many unneccesary files that will be left behind from your former configuration because you only restored the Registry and left the file-system intact.

hi, i've the same problem of str0be. it has succeded me after flashing my qtek with a rom image of a jasjar. Although I reset this operation with the previous working rom, the bug remains (the first splash image is I-mate now). I tried then, unsuccessfully again to solve the camera problem, the installation of the now running wm6pro.
would you like suggest an alternative solution? my configuration is, at the moment, as follow:
wm6pro wwe 08/02/07
radio 1.18
qtek9000
thanks a lot in advance

better u should use any branded rom...from o2 or imate..

txs for your reply. I tried with an original release of i-mate. I suppose there are some settings differences between the devices, although it looks like me odd, I've always thought they were equivalent.
I think the best solution at the moment is looking for an original rom for my device, but I don't know where could I pick it... is anyone updated about any link for my search?
happy 2008 everybody

HELP!!! VERY URGENT!!! MY SCREEN FREEZED ON BOOT COLOURS

Hi
I am really desperated
I have upgraded my PDA2K to wm5 and was working ok until today that freezed on the bootable colour screen.
What should I do? Please help me
NO WORRIES at xda-developers
All you need to do is go to the (Boot options) Just reset the device, as soon as it starts quickly press Record and Camera button together before the version appears at the bottom. Use the record button to scroll up and down and camera for switching it to YES or NO. Leave the top one (Enable KITL = No) and the rest of two i-e (Clean Registry Hive) and (Format Storage) change both to YES. Then press Mail button. You will see a white screen, wait for a while, you will see a start up screen for the fresh setup  If the problem still exist then put into Boot Loader (Record + Power and Reset) the device will show you Serial and USB when it is docked with the cradle. First install the W 5 again, hope this will work, if all this doesn’t works, Downgrade it to 2003 SE, Only by installing the correct ROM (available here at XDA-Developers that is without EXT ROM) cause other shipped ROMs won’t work that are provided by vendors. This will work for sure. Later you can upgrade it again with W5. And yes if you want to stick with 2003 se, just unhide the Ext Rom and simply update it with you shipped ROM provided by your device vendor. Good Luck
I'M STILL IN TROUBLE - PLEASE URGENT HELP
Thanks for your kwik reply.
I have tried all that you have porposed but still nothing.
I have tried "Just reset the device, as soon as it starts quickly press Record and Camera button together before the version appears at the bottom. Use the record button to scroll up and down and camera for switching it to YES or NO. Leave the top one (Enable KITL = No) and the rest of two i-e (Clean Registry Hive) and (Format Storage) change both to YES. Then press Mail button. I have tried to downgrade following the intructions but when should recognise the ROM comes completely in blank.
Please help.
More info please
Finally I was able to downgrade it. Will leave it like it is. Thanks for your help.
But now I have another problem. is crashing all the time, what can i do?
Prefer (HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio)
 no problem dear, just upgrade it again to W 5 Prefer (HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio) and this time make sure you stop all these services. rapimgr.exe, outlook.exe, winword.exe, wcescomm.exe, wcesmgr.exe.
(Right click on taskbar -> Task Manager. End the mentioned processes) Do Not Install Resco File Explorer cause it hangs!
Hope this time you will be more prepared to face these kind of problems.
And if you really want to stick with 2003 se, format your device with 60 kb and unhide the Ext Rom, when you see the extended Rom in (Settings -> system -> Memory -> Storage Card), then just reinstall your The Original Shipped Rom (2003 SE) that can be downloaded from the carrier.
ROM version: 5.03.02 WWE
ROM date: 03/02/05
Radio version: 1.15.00
Protocol version: 1337.45
ExtROM: 1.1.9.106
Where can I download that from?
thanks for the reply
Where can i download the HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio from?
good decision
Use the current avaialbe Wizard ROM, later upgrade Radio available at http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/func,fileinfo/id,225/. Just run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe in Bootloader mode.

Problem with Qtek 9090 Camera

Hello people, I have a question for you. I recently did the Upgrade of my Qtek 9090 to WM 5 (device data now is PH20B WWE 5.03.02 1.12.00). It seems to be working fine (have yet to test wireless connection), but I discovered that I can't get the camera on the phone to work. For some reason, it simply does not react to camera button. It also does not react even when I try with the manual startup of pictures & videos application. Does anyone has any idea how to get out from this one? If this is any help, the original phone data were PH20B 0 B WWE E DANGA102 1.40.00 0 0 1.40.147 1.12.00 12.00.
Thanks a lot
Simple but crucial question: Which WM5 rom you flashed? Have you read specific information about this rom? maybe this one requires some post-instalation operations?
Basically, I found this ROM on www.buzzdev.net, and it only stated BA WM2005 5.03.02WWE - standard upgrade. It is basically the only one which worked for me, since every other dumped me (the model of the phone matched the ROM). However, there were no additional explanations for this, so I am stuck. Is there any registry tweak, or aditional piece of software which could make it work, or I will have to go looking further for better ROM?
As long as we don't know what is the problem with the ROM, we cannot help you - some ROMs just had camera support cut out, others needed installing additional software, some had errors.
About model/device check: please take any recent WM5 rom (baniaczek's for starters) and just read carefully flash instructions from Wiki - there is no problem with device check, if you understand what you do and how you should do it.
Thanks Jakub for good advice, I've been doing some reading and I tried baniaczek's latest issue from the web. However, I've got stuck. Namely, MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe does not work in my case. It simply tells that there has been communication error with the device, or if it starts it tells that this ROM upgrade utility was not designed for this device. I tried the other way with BaUpgrade.exe, with usage of EditFix.bat and xda3nbftool.exe, but it seems that I'm doing something wrong - each time I get the message that the specific ROM was not written for me and that I should check my vendor. Is there any way to get out of this, since now it seems that I can't do no upgrade or downgrade at all?
Thanks a lot in advance, I know this is mostly due to my mistakes and usage of unchecked ROMs.
Thank to everyone who was trying to help me. I did some experimenting in order to solve the upgrade issue, and I solved the problem. This is how I did it: Namely, I downloaded KitchenAKU3.5v2-xplode, which also contains useful readme. Basically if you want to have MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to work for you at all, you have to put the device in Bootloader mode (press power + record simultaneously). After that, the upgrade went smoothly, after I designed my own rom, which was very easy with xplode's tutorial.
One more thing I did was that after the upgrade, I did a soft reset and "cleanup" of the device. after the soft reset I changed following options on the boot screen using camera and record buttons:
“Enable KITL” set to NO
“Clean Registry Hive” set to YES
“Format Storage” set to YES. (again on xplode's instructions)
After that, I confirmed settings with pressing of the mail button. One minute later, I had fully operational and very fast QTEK 9090 running WM5.
I hope that some things I did will be useful to other people trying to fix their blue angels. And of course, thanks to Xplode for making an excellent user-friendly upgrade.

Kaiser sleep function does strange things... (FIXED)

After I did a hard reset, a strange problem appeared.
When I press the power button to put the device in sleep, it does, but after 4-5 seconds it automaticly switches back on.
I tried several things such as soft resetting the device, close all running programs and even another hard reset, but it won't work. I didn't install any programs so far...
More information about my ROM version etc.

i see you have already tried the following but i'm going to write down how i would go about debugging the problem anyway. first, i would try the following steps in the following order to ensure it is not a software issue (it seems you have already eliminated the possibility that this is a software issue):
0. ensure you are using the correct hard SPL for your ROM. if you have never flashed a custom ROM and if you are using the ROM that came with your phone factory installed, you need not worry about this step or step 2 onwards
1. hard reset your phone and check the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software...you have already done this
2. it is recommended to re-download the ROM image and re-flash it to minimize the possibility of a corrupted download or a bad flash
3. it is also recommended to hard reset your phone immediately after flashing the ROM at the point where it says "tap here to begin", i.e. before the screen alignment wizard
4. once again, test the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software
now lets assume it is a hardware issue...here is a nugget of information that might help you. i remember reading a thread here started by a person who described a problem very similar to yours. it involved a "stuck" camera button. you see, the camera button is TWO-stage...and if the half-press stage is "stuck", your phone will never go to sleep properly. search for this thread for more information.
finally, if this is indeed a hardware issue, it seems strange that it appeared only after you did that very first hard reset...but life is full of coincidences !
good luck!
thanks for your suggestions, I will try them and post results.
no success
I tried the things you suggested, but it doesn't work. I also tried the power button when it says "tap your device..." but the device woke up after 4-5 seconds also.
I checked my buttons (especially the camera button, but that one seems to be well... I can feel the two "clicks" and I can take a picture in a normal way)
I'm thinking it might be a ROM problem or something like that... (but my problem is, if I want to go back to the previous official HTC ROM, the 6.0 one, I probably have to use HardSPL, but I don't like that much because of warranty...)
Ok other question... Can I install the Dutch Vodafone ROM on a non-branded HTC device, or could I get VendorID errors or something similar if I want to keep the original SPL?
fixed!
Ok, I fixed it after installing HardSPL 3.29 and flashing the latest WWE ROM...
Now my power button works perfectly!

I Think I've Bricked My Blue Angel????

Hi,
I am new to attempting ROM upgrades!
I bought my BA on ebay it runs on wm2003se but have never used it as a phone because it needed unlocking so i thought i would try to upgrade then unlock.
After many failed rom upgrade attempts one finally started to install, it got to 100% then i was promped to soft reset my XDAiis which i presume is the normal proceedure?
So i did this, but now it is stuck on the blue, green, red and white screen displaying,
No GSM
HTC BlueAngel D 6. 50.28.WWE
I have tried hard reset
I have tried to install the O2 rom that came with it but it says its the incorrect country version!
Any ideas or is it Dead???
HELP
first: try hard resetting!
the procedure changed in comparison to wm2003se, so you have to press reset+power, and then immediately press camera+record. a menu shows up, showing
Enable KITL YES
clear reg. hive NO
format storage NO
using the camera and record buttons, change these entries to
Enable KITL NO
clear reg. hive YES
format storage YES
and press the mail button to confirm, after some time you will see the device boot for the first time.
probably that solves your first problem, but since you seem pretty unexperienced (no offense), it probably unveils more problems. you should also make sure to read this carefully, maybe follow the upgrade wizard again, to make sure you formatted your old extrom and resized it, have a working radio rom, and to make sure you know what you are doing and how to go on improving you BA experience:

Hi,
Thanks for your reply i have tried hard reseting and still have the same problem, any other suggestions???
run through the wizard in the link above, you will need to downgrade to wm2003se again, resize the storage space, upgrade to wm6.5 doing everything exactly as written in the wiki and you will have no problems, here there is the step you are currently facing:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Downgrade_WM5
the downgrade from wm5 or above down to wm2003
hello !
my screen stay white after the
"Enable KITL NO
clear reg. hive YES
format storage YES"
part. How can I do ? thanks
and it's a xv6600
i am not an expert when it comes to the different names of the device, but a quick google search told me, your device is not a blueangel, but a cdma device, namely a HARRIER. the harrier does not support wm5 and up, so you should flash your original shipped rom back, to get it back to work.
if you do not have your shipped rom present (on cd) you can go to your carrier's website and try and download it there. if, however, it is not listed there anymore, you can go download it here:
http://harrier.atspace.com/
all credit for the shipped rom archive goes to xplode.

[SOLVED] Radio Update Problems - Can someone help, please?

Hi Guys,
So I finally decided to update my Xperia radio for better reception and hopefully to see if it magically fixes the Screen of or Stand by of Death issues, associated with many of the Xperia custom ROMs, however, I have run into a critical problem here:
The instructions tell you to copy the Rom Update Utility and the .nbh file to a new folder. Then sync your phone with WMDC and run the Update Utility from the computer and follow the on-screen directions.
This is what happens for me:
When I sync and connect my Xperia and launch the Rom Update Utility, the on-screen directions keep referring to the update as ROM and not as a RADIO. It tells me the changes that will happen in the "image" and etc. When I finally decide update the radio from my computer, my phone goes into the tri color HardSPL mode, and the USB connection from my computer breaks. The phone gives the option to update the rom by hitting the power button, while the on-screen process errors out and breaks, because of a "connection error." This royally screws my phone, cause then I HAVE to reflash my phone to get it back to the working state.
I am sure someone has seen this issue before, I tried search, but not much luck... can anyone help please? I would really appreciate it!
In case it matters, the Radio version I am trying to update from is like 1.06 to the 1.6?
Thanks for any help in advance, everyone!
Really guys? No help from anyone?
Thanks for any help in advance!
I used these steps and it works 100% every time. Flashed several radio roms.
-Download the radio rom.
-Charge your phone to 100%.
-Make sure your xperia is hard-spl. (atleast I think this is needed, best to do so anyway)
-Copy the rom file (usually called 'ruu_signed.nbh') to your storage card.
-rename the rom file to 'Kovsimg.nbh'.
-Turn off your xperia.
-Turn it back on into boot-loader mode. You can do so by holding down the 'volume down' button and the power button simultaneously.
-Follow the onscreen instructions.
-When it's done updating the radio take out the battery and turn your xperia back on. No need for a hard-reset or anything.
This should be a failsafe guide.
@stihl: very detailed
in short: flashing radios is like flashing roms, it just finishes faster due to file size
I have only flashed a "custom rom" once, which was to unlock or "debrand" my Xperia, so I am new to flashing radios. My only problem is that once the ".nbh" file ALONE is on my storage card, and the "tri-coloured screen" has been loader, an error message of "no image file" is shown on the screen just before the "tri-coloured screen" is shown again with "serial" at the bottom. I'm sure there's a simply solution, but I am not sure what it is, and can do with a little help. Thanks
Found a sync solution and followed that method now, so it's aight, but thanks to anyone who WOULD OF helped.
