I suddenly started experiencing a small white box under the X (to close/move apps to backgrubnd) on my stock HTC TyTN II. I can't really say when it first appeared but I'm pretty sure it happened today when I switched skins. I switched back to the stock skin of course but the little white box is still there.
Any ideas how to solve this?
If it's a uncommon problem I can try to post a pic but I don't have nay app to do screenshots on my phone so if needed please give me a hint there as well.
Also: I tried searching both the forum and google for this but I couldn't find anything that seemed really relevant to my problem.

Try THIS. You can make screenshots from your PC. It's still there after a soft-reset?
Problem solved (it was the "show battery status during call" tweak that for whatever reason didn't work with my current skin.
I disabled the tweak, chose my skin, rebooted the device, applied the tweak, rebooted again and now it's working properly.
Thanks for the proggy though, I was just thinking about this (showing my phone display on my desktop screen) earlier today.

Well, I finally have my Wiz just working great! New Custom MDA ROM is all that it is cracked up to be BUT . . .
I have the most recent version of SPB PP installed, with the extended themes packages. I can manipulate the icons within reason (just the standard 40-50 that come with the original) but none of the theme related icons are showing up (the cool ones that go with the theme).
I read somewhere the issue is with the file naming (had to add VGA to the beginning of the icon's file name) and placement (had to move them into another folder). I found this odd because the Wiz isn't vga, so this shouldn't have any impact. Is it the fact that the Wiz isn't vga that the cool icons don't work? May have answered my own question, but I swear I've seen screen shots of Wizards with the icons working. Anyway, I tried it for the heck of it and as I suspected did not work.
Obviously the guy staring at a black screen whose ROM upgrade went the wrong way is a higher priority, so this is a back burner topic. I'm just curious if there is a fix. Someone keep this alive if they can with any thoughts or suggestions. TIA!!!

I tried that before and it didn't work. Do I have to do a soft reset or a full power down?
problem solved . . .
 I actually went into Total Commander and moved the standard icons into a temp folder, got rid of the "VGA" from the file names of the theme icons, did a soft reset, and voila. cool icons appeared!! I guess I better get used to doing that for all of my extended themes . . .UNLESS someone has another suggestion (i.e. a reg. hack to look for vga icons???)

maybe not . . .
ok, so I made the file name changes which worked fine for the theme I am using, but when I go to change the theme, new icon files don't show up. In addition, occassionally my backlight goes dark for no reason.
Any suggestions?

Welcome my friend to 2.17. I have been having little tiny weird things too, not enouph to annoy me but.... My wi-fi companion simply will not give me the proper signal results it used to. When sitting nex to my router I usually got 98-100%, understanbly since I am sitting next to it, now Wi-Fi Companion always shows 66% signal. I have tried reinstalling, cold boot again, same results. Walk to another part of house, and were I use to get 45% it shows 22%. Yet wirelss settings shows good signal reception, and for the most part I am having no problems getting online fast. I think it's just Wi-Fi Companion?

I've got my Wizard G4 a few days ago, and ever since, when it's not been used for a while, and is freshly turned on (mainly when there is a lot of black/white contrast on the screen, such as text etc), it would at first display the correct text, then 'fade' to the brightly colored patterns show in the thumbnails below. Interestingly this ONLY happens when the keyboard is 'in', this has never happened when its drawn out. I at first thought this was a software problem, however after flashing first the Slim Edition v2.2 ROM, and the latest TNT ROM the situation didn't improve.
Consequently, I am inclined to think this is a hardware issue, perhaps some bad contacts or something? I have tried to research this but have found nothing much apart from the Wizard Service Manual.
Has anyone encountered, or better still, solved this problem? I'll have a go at repairing the contacts, but would still like your experiences/advice as well.
Thanks in advance!
Nice pictures. You have problems with the cable connecting the screen and the main board. We should buy a new and changing.
Thanks, I'll have a look first, hopefully its just loose, cos similar ones look pretty expensive on eBay... Any chance you could suggest a source?
Thanks

Hi all,
This morning my phone was still doing fine, alarm went off, display was normal. When I unplugged it from the charger to go to work, the display turned into the attached screenshot. Funny thing is it wasn't hanging, the numbers on the clock was still flipping over
Has anyone seen this before, but more importantly, is there a fix for it?
Thanks
I had that. Only thing is to re-insert the battery.

I did a soft reset, which fixed it. Just a bit concerned as yesterday early morning, while charging, the phone hanged.
Maybe time for a new ROM
Thats if its a software issue and not a hardware issue. I've posted on this problem I have and its similar to yours.
Its related to the 3d driver from htc. either its the poorly written api or the poor 3d chip is the culprit.
Disable TF3d and you will not see this happening again. But then, it wouldnt be a diamond without Manila, would it?
Might be a good opportunity to "upgrade" your ROM....
alright after almost 1 week of testing, I can finally conclude that this problem has disappeared.
I've tried changing to v1.93 Olinex and tested the roms from SwiftBL, Panosha, Vic etc. None was able to resolve the problem until I tried Dutty's v2.6. The problem no long appears and has been rock stable, be it overnight or normal usage.
A closer look revealed that Dutty's rom has a newer version of Manila, while Swift and Vic (not sure about Panosha)'s romes had an older version.
Give it a try guys and see if it works for you.
Hi Guys, the home screen (and all other screens on the phone) flicker and fizz on my HD7. It comes and goes. It started doing it yesterday and a reboot fixed it, but its come back today. It even got to the point where I could not unlock the phone because I couldn't see the keyboard on the screen. The whole screen was black. I eventually managed to unlock the phone because I remembered the location of the keys, but its a bit weird. The only thing I have installed recently is the Faceboot app. I think I'll remove that to see if it makes a difference.
Video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV2rREcoiOQ
Not sure whats going on with youtube, but I recorded another one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XDcA7c2Rb0
If it doesn't work, try again in an hour or so... hopefully youtube will have pulled its finger out by then and finished processing the vid!
Here's another vid of the keyboard going mad in the messaging screen... hohum..

If you press the volume buttons when it happens, it seems to fix it (well it did for me the one time I got to try it).

What were you doing before this happened??
Absolutely nothing! I literally just press the power button to turn on the screen to login to the phone (note: Im not booting, the phone is only asleep) and the issue is there. Its doing it by itself. As far as I can trace back my steps there could be two causes I can think of. Though these might just be a coincidence obviously. I installed the Facebook App (which is now removed) and I changed the wallpaper to a photo I took with the phone's camera. Not exactly 'hacking'.... I removed the Faebook app and changed the wallpaper and rebooted the phone. Its been OK since yesterday, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to see whether it returns. The keyboard bit is especially funky, as its a pain to type anything when all the keys are flashing randomly....
This has happened about 3 times to me -- always when I'm running some fairly intensive UI operations - scrolling around the Zune hub, the marketplace. Could be a coincidence, I guess.

+1 (HD7) Happened a couple of times (wasn't doing anything special).
happens to me from time to time.. sometimes itll go away or i just reboot the phone.
it seems to happen when im doing a lot of things, i figure its just early glitches in the software
I've had both of these glitches today (the flickering home screen and the bizarre looking messages app), and I only bought the new handset yesterday. I know it's early days for WP7, but I really would have hoped there'd be some degree of stability.
Anyway, regardless of what I think, I'd appreciate the ability to terminate an application myself since this would appear to be related to a process not releasing the screen completely. Can't do it at the moment, but I hope Microsoft can give us that capability in the first service release.
Similar Problem
Hey,
I've watched the Youtube videos that were posted and my problem is similar but worse, the screen doesn't just flicker it turns into a kind of trail when I scroll up and down on the home page. So for example my top two tiles are Phone and Messaging, when this happens I get partial images of those two tiles up and down the screen.
I'm not sure whether this is just a software issue or whether its worth returning now while its still relatively new and getting a new one.
I will see if I can find the photos I took on another phone and post them.
Any thoughts will be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Jess
Hi Guys,
Sorry to drag up an old thread but I work for a major UK Network in the technical team and I've had a few customers reporting this fault on their HD7's. I'm just interested to see the general consensus of users and whether they have suffered this issue be it intermittently, constantly or even just once or twice. I'm also interested in whether there are any temporary solutions to the problem. I may be able to raise this further with HTC although from the looks of it, there are numerous cases open regarding this complaint. The puzzling factor is it only seems to affect the HD7 and not other WP7 handsets.
Thanks in advance.
Just once for me. What I noticed about it when it happened, was that it reminds me of the gleen flicker on the xbox360 when you power it off.
I get my screen completely garbagging maybe twice a week, reboot cures it. I suspect a firmware glitch which I'm hoping Nodo will cure.

As you imply, this is a known issue. Its also been fixed already by HTC in a subsequent firmware which football has made available on another thread. For those not comfortable with flashing the firmware manually the updated firmware will be included in the NODO update.
A post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003919&page=2 confirms that the firmware is updated once Nodo is applied to a handset - 2250.09.16901.401 to be exact.
I manually flashed firmware 2250.09.16803.206 to my device which fixed the video issues.
Seems rather telling that you have come to XDA-devs rather go through your carriers formal business ties to HTC??
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum so I'll try to make the issue I am addressing as clear as possible.
I bought this phone for around a month now and I was quite shocked to notice the problem with my screen. Basically, it is functioning perfectly well. However, I noticed an issue while I was using my phone in the dark to check my facebook. While it was loading pictures, the screen black out and I seem to notice " cracks" appearing. I went to the service centre for a check but I was told that my phone is perfectly okay. Still in disbelief, I tried to somehow "test" my phone in the dark again. I noticed that those "cracks" appear only when the phone is booting up i.e unlocking the phone or when the phone is about to light up and they can only be seen in the dark. I'm really not sure whether it is a hardware problem with the LCD or otherwise. I would appreciate if you guys could provide me with advices.
Thank you!
