Active Data Calls, How to end.... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have tried to use my Vario III with my TomTom 720 for traffic updates unfortunately the setup is a little hit or miss. I have identified the cause of the problem and this is due to data calls being active, if these are ended then the TomTom unit works perfectly.
Is there a way to automatically end data calls, I have the ability to configure an AT connection string, is there a code that can be added that will close calls during connection?
Our can data calls be set to end immediately once complete.

this may help, ends a data call after 10 seconds of inactivity.

works for me on WM6.

GPRS Connection Issues - Keeping GPRS connections active

I'm trying to keep my GPRS connection alive - all day
I'm using a mobile solution which relies on traffic being sent automatically via GPRS to a Qtek 2020i (service calls for field engineers)
The problem is that the GPRS appears to time out (or at least go to sleep) after a period of inactivity.
I need to keep the connection alive as having to manually reactivate it (or wake it up) defeats the object of my engineers receiving calls via GPRS.
The "G" symbol appears on a white background and has to be tapped to wake it up ("G" with left and right arrows).
Only then will the queued data be sent to the unit.
The timeout period appears to be around a couple of minutes.
I've checked the power settings - there is nothing which relates to GPRS timeout.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Would be worthwhile checking with your operator as I believe that the timeout is setup on the network not the device.
My understanding of the general issue is that the network times out the GPRS connection and the device or OS (WM2003 etc) does not properly handle reinitialising the connection or detecting that it has timed out.
Is the data really being sent to the device. We have used O2 and Orange and the IP allocated is not available from the internet unless you go with something like a VPN solution.
You could look at changing the app to request the info or at least ping a server every few minutes to keep the connection alive.
GB-Soft Tweak
There is a program called GB-Soft Tweak, which could help with the issue. I'm using it even on the MDA_PRO (as I did with the MDA2) and it's working flawlessly.
It has an option "to keep the GPRS connection always 'on'". I believe you can at least try it. It installs in "Settings" and once set, you don't need to touch anything.
It's just 13KB and I'll attach it to this message.

I will give it a try and thanks a lot man.

Call Drops When Data Connection Initiates

Does anyone have bad call dropping experience? On my AT&T Tilt with the HTC Rom running Windows Live for Push Mail (hotmail account), my call drops a lot; I looked at the screen every time the call dropped, and it seems that 90% of the time the "3G" icon was trying to connect and shortly after it changes to "H". Does that means the data connection on my phone some how caused the voice call to drop?
I've installed the Kaiser Tweak that turns the data connection off after 1 minutes of no usage, and I saw the 3G and the H icon switched quite often. Does that have anything to do with the call dropping?
the H icon shown only when you are connected to the internet, otherwise it stays 3G although you are in the HSDPA coverege
Ever since I used the Kaiser Tweak to disconnect from the network after 1 minutes of no activity, the connection message (the pop up message from the title bar saying "Connecting to ..." ) shows up quite often. This is probably due to my Windows Live tries to sync the email. Sometimes when the call was dropped, that connection message shows up immediately after the call drops. Could it be due to the fact that the 3G signals was not strong, and it was switching between 3G and EDGE that causes the call to drop?
I've also seen my call drops sometimes when transits between 3G & Edge, not sure if it's related...
I know HSDPA does simultaneous voice and data, but I'm not sure about edge. If you are on UMTS or edge and the call drops when you connect to data, its prob bc they will not do voice and data at the same time.

Missing calls (jump direct to voicemail)

Hello,
I have a verry weird problem with my Tytn 2.
Most of the time when people try to call me, the phone doens't ring. the only thing i see is a small incomming call icon on top of the screen and the screen turns on. after that i get an sms message from my voicemail. (They get redirected to it)
Sometimes it just works well.
Dont know what is going on, but it is verry annoying. i miss a lot of calls every day.
Maybe anyone know the issue?
Btw on a sidenote, i check my Gmail every 5mins (1min disconect when idle) but it seems to consume a lot of data +- 15MB a day. Only email checking!!
Anyone who knows how that come?
Thanks!
r u on a 3G or 2G coverage?
If on 2G, some operators do not allow data and voice at the same time. So if you have your Internet connection on at almost all the times, your voice calls will automatically be switched to VMail.
But if you have a 3G connection. dunno.
as far as the net usage, do you download ALL the message? try loading only the headers? Do you also download the attachments? all these rack up.

Well i think i can select that at the menu 'Band' it is configured as 'Auto'
Can chose:
Type network: Auto, GSM or WCDMA
Select GSM/UMTS-band: GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100) or GSM(1900+850) or UMTS (2100+800)
i know my provider supports 3g
Or is that the wrong menu? and settings.
Thanks for the tip on the email. Attachments were already disabled. but i chosed to download all tekst and no images. But now i selected it to header only, will monitor how it goes.
Hm, maybe some more ppl with input?
i still think it has something to do with the internet connection that is active.
My Kasier switches between 2G and 3G depending on coverage. Based on the answer you already got above, this might explain the "random" nature of missed calls:
If your coverage at a point in time is 2G and an incoming call happens at the same time as a scheduled email download, the call gets redirected.
If your coverage is 3G, the call comes in normally.
I hate push email on my phone (it's a control thing) and pull email down when and if it suits me!
Hmm dunno if its a coverage problem i travel a lot, and today i missed 2 calls again. Damn its getitng annoying! maybe i need to try a hard reset?
Hm most pll say that the phone rings two times, and then switches to my voicemail. But i dont hear anything, only see a small phone icon in the top bar.
Rings twice and then voicemail is definetly you using data connection when someone calls.
I have had mine not ring and go to voice mail several times. Once when it happend, I called it myself, and watched teh phone, and I noticed that it thought I had on a BT headset. My BT was on on the phone, but I did not have a BT headset on. So, I think it was sending to BT, but there was not BT. I have started turning my BT off if I am in fact not using a BT headset or other BT device.

Not getting phone calls or texts while on internet

Only noticed this yesterday really. When I'm using some sort of data connection (so browsing the internet or on WLM etc), I seem not able to receive a phone call, or to receive a text. I thought that voice calls / texts would interrupt the data session so you could receive them. Even my old samsung g600 does that (although I didn't use the internet much on it, so not too sure how good that is at it).
Is this a known issue, or a bug etc? Or is it just how it works? It's very annoying.
Thanks

Simultaneous Voice & Data connections - behaviour?

I have enabled simultaneous connections for Voice & Data in my ROM by editing the 'ContextNumber' values in the registry.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\\RIL\OperatorContexts\23415] ;Vodafone UK
"GPRSContextNumber"=dword:3
"UMTSContextNumber"=dword:3
This seems to work, to a degree but I am not sure about some of the behaviour. I have my data connection set to permanent as I use Exchange ActiveSync for work as well as MS Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2. I have a 2nd data connection for MMS but this is hardly ever used and only for MMS anyway.
If I am on a call and an email arrives I hear a notification and if I quickly look I can see an email has been received whilst the call is still in place. If the call is short then everything seems fine, however if the call is for a few minutes or more then typically my OCS presence status gets messed up and the connection to the OCS server gets broken. The data connection is still in place but there seems to be some breakdown of sending/receiving data whilst the voice call is connected for more than a few minutes.
I am struggling to troubleshoot this and was wondering if anyone else has issues with simultaneous voice & data calls?

generally it's not a phone thing class A gsm phones all support it
but if your phone operator don't have full support in their end
there is not much you can do
read about it here

every htc phone I had supported it fine without any reg changes

No, that's the thing it does work and I can receive emails via the data connection when I am on a voice call. It just seems after the voice call is active for more than a few minutes then there is some communication breakdown, however the data call remains active.
