Hello all,
I'm just now debating on whether or not I need to exchange my new Tilt in for another one, or if this is just normal break-in behavior.
The scroll wheel is very erratic, sometimes when scrolling down it will go up instead and reversing the scrolling motion will cause it to freak out (go down once then scroll up like crazy). Also pressing the scroll wheel in to select/click on something often doesn't work forcing me to try several times to "click" on what I have selected.
The scrolling action is nowhere near as smooth as my Hermes, is anyone else having these issues?
******* separate but related issue *******
If it is indeed a hardware issue, does anyone know of a way to restore the bootloader back to AT&T's ... I flashed HardSPL and think I should probably put it back to stock.
Thanks,
Dave
same problem
i am having the same issue, wondering if i should go back to that nasty blue slut of a rom
FEATURES
SuperCID / Security Level=0
Does not check NBH signatures
Based on 1.50 MFG bootloader, rtask enabled
Accept any password
Model ID check only 4 chars
SPL overwrite DISABLED (to bypass, use SSPL-KAIS.exe)
I guess using the SSPL-KAIS.EXE and then flashing an AT&T om would solve that.
Cheers,
Cactus

I was having the same problem with the AT&T ROM, but admittedly was not running it for very long before pof released HardSPL.
That's what makes me think it's hardware related.

Thanks Cactus,
I haven't checked the SSPL thread today, I saw that pof closed it last night because it was bricking a lot of phones. Thought he mentioned that he was going to try to get a working one out soon.
Thanks again for the reply.

SSPL v1 is just fine to flash an SPL or a splash screen, it will not work if you flash a full NBH containing OS becuase the NBH buffer is smaller on 0.92.
thanks pof!
Erratic scroll wheel persists across ROMs
Well I flashed back to AT&T ROM this morning and have been playing with it all day, and the erratic behavior is still there.
Given that only one other person complained here, I think it might be my device. Gonna go see my AT&T guy about an exchange.
Thanks for bearing with me.
sirsycho,
Let me know if you got a new device and it is better, please. I am having issues with having to click the scroll wheel really hard to get it to register at times. On another note, unlike all the other keys on my Tilt keyboard, the 's' key barely goes down when you press it and it doesn't click like all the otthers. This causes me to instinctively hit it multiple timessss so I get a lot of Ss in a row. Anyone else?
I have the same problem. It sometimes works and sometimes it dont.

My new device is on the FedEx truck for delivery today... I'm going to try it out with the standard AT&T ROM for a bit to get a good baseline and then flash to HTC's... I'll try to post an update tonight.
Thanks.

Not you're device. I had this issue prior to unlocking, then with the htc rom and again now with the att rom. To me, it looks either hardware issue, or something lower level is the OS that is common to all current roms. PErhaps the sensitivity of the wheel needs tweaking somehow.
I had issues with my scroll wheel as well. Coming from an 8525 I was like WTF did they do to this wheel? Sometimes the click wasn't registering, but either it's broken in, or I've adjusted my habits because it seems OK now, though not as solid feeling as the 8525 was. I'm sitting here with both the 8525 and Tilt in my hands and the wheel on the 8525 is definitely better.
I'm experiencing the same problem. The wheel feels scratchy when rotated, unlike my Hermes which was smooth. Usually wheels of this type are metal contacts against a circuit board, which use a binary gray code to register direction. I'm thinking its been designed poorly. Perhaps the Hermes unit was $.02 more money.
I wonder if we can replace it with a Hermes unit?
thanks sirsycho.. Update us once you get your new one.
Update with new Tilt and ATT ROM
ok... I'm still running the ATT ROM and still having the scroll wheel issues. Exactly the same things mentioned by others here... scrolling doesn't always register and when pressing in on the wheel I have to do it a couple times before it actually works.
On a side note, it seemed to be getting better on the older device before I switched, but as was mentioned above, that might just be me getting used to the substandard hardware (both of my Hermes work sooo much better).
I'll probably try this out through tomorrow before I flash the HTC ROM... I'll post again if anything improves.
Same scroll wheel problems for me (I have a Tilt). It sounds like maybe it improves as you break it in, so I'll give it a few more days before returning. Grrr....
Same problem here with my first Tilt. I returned the next day because this thread hadn't popped up yet so I thought it was just me and one defective unit. I subsequently got one that (knock on wood) has performed much better. Still notice a few jutters here and there, but the wheel doesn't feel as "scratchy" as mentioned before.
When I had my first Tilt, I noticed it much more when moving the wheel slowly. Here's hoping the problem doesn't start again because so far so good with my new one.
hello i'm using htc Tytn II

Just got a Tilt 3 days ago and Im having the same erratic scroll wheel problem.
I see that this is an old thread, so I'm wondering if any conclusion as to this being a hardware or software problem have been made?
Thanks
Hey guys
Just recently got a Tytn II on the UK Orange network. I love it so far but there are a couple of hardware flaws I have noticed and are quite annoying.
1) The front keypad with the call send/end buttons is very loose and wobbles from side to side, as if the hole that it is in is too big for the keys.
2) The space bar on the qwerty keyboard doesnt seem to work all the time, and i will find myself when typing texts/emails with text which looks like "This is at est sentencef or my complaint" if you can see where im pointing. This one is even more so annoying because i have to be careful when typing fast. At first i thought it was something to do with PalmSMS in duttys new ROM but i uninstalled that and the same is happening. I didnt notice it when i first got my kaiser but only after the first 2 weeks have i noticed it.
Hope someone can relate to these problems.
Thanks
-mcall_r
im having the same problem. I've had two different Tilts and the buttons are both very wobbly. Not really a big issue to me though.

yup, same here. not an "issue" for me though, as it doesn't affect anything. My spacebar works fine, I'm a text maniac so if it wasn't working I'd notice...
If your spacebar is still malfunctioning after flashing a different rom, I'd be concerned. My keypad is much more responsive using a well cooked rom.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there have been a couple of threads about the general build quality of the Kaiser.
The silver call/send keys on the bottom are really nothing to get too worked up over though.

Yeah the front keypad doesnt really bother me that much it was just to see if it was common on alot of devices. I actually work in an orange shop and have sold alot of kaisers where the front buttons were fine.
As with the ROM thing, i never thought of that but coming to think of it now i noticed it when i started using duttys latest rom with PALMSMS built in. I tried the non-palmsms version and the same thing occurs. I like that version because anything earlier, xT9 interferes with the hardware keyboard.
What is the exact version of the dutty ROM you are using?
Thanks
Same here wobbly keys bother me at first now I kinda like to wiggle it around when i am bored
I noticed that, too. No big deal, really
I too have the wobbly front keypad. I think its the same for all Kaisers. Nothing to worry about IMO. It works just fine and doesn't look like it'll be breaking anytime soon.
Regarding the spacebar, it actually is 2 keys rolled into one. So if you press in the middle of it, nothing will happen. Try pressing on either the right or the left side and you should have no problem. Takes an hour to get used to it

LOL you might want to reword that
and Pheonix, i know that i had always been typing properly before and it was fine, it was just the ROM i was using. I reloaded it and its fine, no problems!!!!
Cheers for all your input guys
WOW .. i didnt expected soo many guys with the same wobbly issue... i was really annoyed by it .... Especially when i am playing any Game which requires fast repsonse.... i once tried to put a piece of small paper under the Buttons .. so it would fix it in place... but after that buttons didnt work properly... but after 6 months of usage .. i now hardly notice the Wobbly Front Pad...
I'm on my 2nd kaiser (both tilt variants) and they both had the d-pad slides on both of them. I noticed its more on the left side, where the answer button is, it'll move up and down.
Also if what you type comes out slow on a rom, try the disable xt9 cab floating around, i know that was the fix for some of the roms.
Kinda sucks when what your typing comes out messed up and you send it without reading it and then people think your drunk... not good for business!
front keypad, ironically, just started to wiggle around yesterday. I've had it about a month (Kaiser-TytnII Pro). No issues with the inside keyboard(yet) though
hmmmm seems to be a flaw in all kaisers.
i dont think the t-mobile MDA version would be like that though.. the keypad is different on theirs.
Unfortunately when mine wobbles up too far in either the up or down direction the d-pad intermittently does not function properly... that is, if I press up or down it does not work a percentage of the time. Anyone know if there is a fix (I'm assuming hardware fix) for this issue? Otherwise the device is fine and I'd prefer not too have to send it back.
maybe this issue is the reason why T-Mobile has a different front-keypad on the MDA Vario 3. Mine fits like a glove.

Yes, but the T-Mobile one is fugly and I want to get rid of it. I've bought the original one but the change is a little bit slippery.
When the device wakes up from standby it goes to the TF3D home screen, even when in a call and you need to you the 'people centric' shortcuts that HTC boast about. So when you turn your screen on during a call you have to press the small green button to take you off of the home screen and back to the call screen.... most annoying
Is there anyway around this, I have had a quick search but mostly this issue relates to the old TF3D and there does not seem to many answers.
Please help
I just tested this for you. Whilst in a call I turned off the screen and then back on again. It resumed to the call screen and not the TF3D screen as you suggest. Sorry, I have no explanation for you.
The behaviour may be different if it times out to the standby mode (whilst in a call), rather than you pressing the button.
It mainly does it when you slide the slider down and then turn off the screen and turn it on.
The other main problem is say your in MS word and the screen goes off it takes you back to the home and you have to go back to word to carry on what you were doing, has anyone managed to disable this action i was wondering if it was a registry entry but i cant seem to find any thing
Does this not annoy anyone else?
Anyone got any ideas?

As annoying as on the D1 it is , but some existing tweaks might help disable screen off.
I still need to change my D1 to D2 in the next days but will become (again) a participating member here going untill 6.5.1 with this one
Iphone had me captured for a few months, but despite the tortures given, I refrain back to PDA & HTC

I don't have my TD2 in yet but is there not the TaskManager Icon on the left top of the taskbar?
You could just click on that then on (for example) MW to get back to it instead of going back to programs and opening it. It is a pain sometimes.
Is there not an option that disables it going to the Homescreen? IDK....Just throwing things out there.
IIRC on my Elfin when I was running Touch Flo 2D, I think I had M2DC, but coud set it to go to main screen after the screen went off or stay where it was. On Onyx 6.5 rom for the Elfin after the screen locks I am back to whatever screen I was in.
There will probably a fix for this anyway.
Edit - I had a thought. If you use the Locking App I use (CAB below) there is an option where you can check if the today screen is shown after lock. Mebe if you install this and un-check that setting it will no longer jump to TF and stay in the program you were in.
If you try it let us know.
Well, some more "problems":
* remove the back for a softreset
* remove the bk for the storage card
* no d-pad
On all other aspects: better than the D1!
(and even nicer...)

Removing the Cover to soft reset will be a pain but there are programs for the like psShutXP. (not sure how it looks/works on the D2 seeing it's wvga)
I really don't see in haveing to remove the back cover for an SD card is a problem. How many times do you really need to remove it? Especially since you can throw in a 16GB card and call it good. I have to remove the back cover on the Elfin even though the card is on the side.
No D-pad will essentially be a little bump but I am hoping the screen is big enough. With the 6.5 Rom I've been using on the Elfin I hardly use it unless I feel lazy to touch.

Ah I see.... I didn't see the "" when reading..... LOL..... I just get a little frustrated when I hear about the SD card being under the cover. So many reviews online have mentioned it and it's perfectly fine. Allows for less moving parts. The door on my elfin is rather chipped from opening it so many times. I mean atleast it's not under tha battery like some phones I've owned.

I have experienced same issues like you did. The Fn key works only when I put lot of pressure on it (didn't succeed to determine which is the most suitable position) so, I've been forced to find other alternatives (soft keyboards). But, what's important is to find out if this is a hardware problem or is simply related to the new ROM installments which I play with...
Any opinion/suggestion is more then welcome...
Thanks
It's not a wm 6.5 related problem... there're tons of guys having this problem, and soon they're going to increase, cause it seems to get worse with time...
my keyboard has reached an unusable state, and the left half of the keyboard type twice or nothing.
The first thing you can try is to longer the time for input replication... if it doesn't work, then send it to SE, and hope to receive it back in a little time
I'm waiting to find a good alternative to X1, then send it to assistance, and when it comes back sell it... never buying SE products anymore
searching with google get many results... this is the first:

oh let me tell you something real that is happening.
1.keyboard is crap if u dont use the buttons daily ,you will have this problem(i have it too)
2. same as my camera button( i press half way to auto focus and then press it fully to take a picture. but now it auto focus and when i press fully, the camera will auto focus again and shoot the pictures )
i dunno what is wrong with X1 ,but htc has make a bull**** things for SE.(happy that SE decided to leave them).
ok so seem to be an hardware problem; i'll dismount mine x1 to see if there's dust or something else under the keyboard.

I reached to the same conclusion like you did. Seems like most of the SE X1 keyboards have problems, as well like the battery life (btw, last night, in stand-by mode, my X1 battery drained out completely without having any process/program running)...
Speaking about SE X1 in general, yes could be taken as a kind of failure but we don't have to forget is made by HTC. So, they could be blamed as well for this lack of success!
Or maybe there was also a sabotage around, who knows?
