ActiveSync: 5 times automatically with recurring ActiveSync tone from Tilt... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

So I connect my Tilt to my laptop via usb & then it proceeds to do approximately 5 consecutive complete synchronizations. If I leave my phone connected via usb, the phone will make the ActiveSync tone (which I chose) seemingly randomly once every 2 - 10 minutes even though in the ActiveSync window on my laptop there is no change or movement from the previously completed synchronization (all 5 of them ).
htc is stumped, we arrived at the last resort of just disabling the tone altogether. I think that's kind of lame...raising the white flag, so to speak. I kind of like the tone even though it isn't vital.
Help me out here, guys. Any ideas?

Am I the only one that's experienced this?
Any ideas?

Can anyone help me out?

i think i have the same. while I am listening to streaming radio, i hear that activesync sound from time to time. but the phone is not synchronizing at that time.
anyways, there is nothing wrong in the end right?! it does not bother me.
what does it do you?

I got the same problem. Find any solution ?

Same problem, would like to know the underlying cause.

When you phone is plugged in, it immediately Syncs, then every 5 minutes or so It Resyncs.
If you are running XP, I assume you would be using ActiveSync you can turn off the sounds all together.
On your PC. Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds (Tab) -> Scroll all the way to the bottom find Micorsoft Active Sync, Click the Connect Confirm, Set to None in the Drop down, Same the With Disconnect Confirm. Ok and that should stop the sound.

Need help! Kaiser connects to GPRS even though it is not supposed to!

Dear Forum Members,
Maybe some of you can help me out. Here is what's happening:
The Kaiser's GSM radio is switched on and the unit behaves totally normal. From time to time I sync the Kaiser via AS 4.5/USB with my desktop computer and MS exchange (as well via the desktop computer). After all syncs have been completed successfully I disconnect the USB cable and the trouble starts.
After about 2 to 5 minutes the Kaiser starts to build up a GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA connection to the internet and tries to sync itself with exchange, even though it is not supposed to do so. All exchange settings are switched to manual sync, MS Push is switched off. Disconnecting GPRS results in a re-connection 2 to 5 minutes later. Stopping email programm, Async and connection manager on the kaiser does not fix the problem, the GPRS connection is again established.
Only work around for me at the moment: placing Kaiser next to computer speakers on my desk so that I hear that the phone is showing unwanted activity; if it does: soft reset.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this behavior? As mentioned above, it only happens after syncing the Kaiser with exchange, all exchange sync modes are set to manual.
This really did cost me some bucks while being abroad recently since I did not notice that GPRS was on all the time.
Thank you all!

did u try some system tool to see what processes are the kaiser runing? Try to see the running processes before and after the sync, maybe the sync starts some process that is causing your problems.

Weird Activesync Issue. Please help.

Whenever I connect my Tilt (Original WWE HTC TYTN II rom 1.56.405.5 and radio 1.27.12.11 flashed on it) I sometimes get Activesync to connect and sync, and other times it just gets stuck saying "connecting" and the activesync icon is spinning and green permanently. In order to get out of that I have to pull the usb plug, but then the Tilt freezes and I have to do a soft reset. Then after that it connects and syncs fine for a few times and then it has the problem again. I have tried it with the "enabled advanced network functionality" checked and unchecked, and still the same issues. Although, I only tried it once with the box unchecked. Also, what I noticed is that when it is syncing and checking for changes on the device, it reads through my "favorites" like two times beofre it says "connected". I have other PPC synced on other computers and they never read completely through the favorites, once or even twice.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First, a suggestion: Bump your old thread. Don't start a new one!
What other applications do you have running in the background? You said it syncs for a couple of times after soft-reset, so, I am wondering if you have any other applications causing the problem.
Lots of things could be causing your problem. Here are some things for you to try:
1. MOST IMPORTANT: Make sure that you plug your device directly into the computer. Do not plug the device into a USB hub or other device. If you are using a laptop, do not plug the device into USB ports in your docking station. More technically, make sure that the port you are using is a Root USB device, not a Generic USB one. This make quite a difference in Vista, because locking your computer or having a UAC prompt while you are connected to a generic USB device seems to interrupt the connection.
2. Make sure that you have "Advanced Network Funcationality" enabled.
2. Make sure that you have the latest version of ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista). If you are using Vista, the current version is 6.1. This version has some updated drivers that seems to help immensely with stability.
3. If you are using Vista, make sure you have all the latest OS updates installed. There was a Windows Update sometime back in November of 2007 that fixed some serious bugs in the USB drivers in Vista.
4. If you have Windows Firewall Client for ISA installed, do a search on the Microsoft website for possible problems with interactions between ActiveSync/WMDC and the firewall client.
Hope this helps.
Cardyin
In my experience - a year with an 8525 and 5 months with the Tilt - having "Advanced Network Functionality" disabled, gives more consistent positive results when syncing to a PC running XP.
OK.
Sherpa: I have no other applications running in the background. I always close all apps before a sync out of habit.
Also, I am not sure how to bump the thread.
Cardyin: I plug directly into my laptop, don't use a USB hub or anything. I don't have a dcoking station either.
I have the latest version of activesync: 4.5
I am using XP SP2.
I have no firewall.
dgduris: I have tried it both with "advanced network functionality" enabled and disabled, same results.
Thanks for responses
Anyone have any ideas about this problem??
Are you sure you don't have a firewall running? I have a similar problem with ZoneAlarm if I forget and leave the firewall on High security. I have to switch it to Medium security in order for ActiveSync not to freeze up like that.
I am positive, and if it was the firewall, it would do it all the time, not just every four or five syncs.
Anyone else have any ideas??
Anyone at all??
I can't solve the problem but I could advise as to a quicker way to get it synced when it decides to play up.
When mine does the interminable "connecting" business, I click on the "stop sync" button. It usually takes 20 seconds or so to stop.
I then click the "sync" button (same button) and the device always syncs immediately.
I don't know why it does this - and it does it a little too often for my liking - but that solution works for me.
It's a lot quicker than disconnecting and soft resetting too.
1) You say you dont have a firewall... I assume you mean other than the windows firewall. Try turning that off and then plugging it in. If it connects then you know it is a firewall issue. You can manually add the sync apps and ports to the firewall exlcusion list.
2) Try disabling the device lock if you use it. I had a shortlived problem with a pin lock blocking syncing. I disabled the pin, synced and then re-enabled the pin and it worked fine afterwards.
Tried that too...

Right, all I have is the windows firewall. I will disable that and try a few syncs.
As far as device lock or pin, I have none setup on my Tilt.
But Thanks for the responses.
Seems like at least one other person is having this issue. See Sparrowhawks post...
Anyone else have any ideas?? I tried the above advice and still not syncing correctly.
I have tried all the suggestions here and nothing is working. I can get the device to sync only about 3 or 4 times, and then it just keeps saying "looking for changes". I have the AT&T Tilt, with the original WWE HTC rom flashed on it. The way I have to get around this is to click "stop" on my PC and then wait abut 2 to 3 minutes for it to stop attempting to sync, and then when I click on "sync" on my PC it connects no porblem. Or I have to unplug the usb cable and soft reset the device, what a pain!
Anyone have any other ideas please?
I just noticed something else that may help identify the problem.
When I connect the usb cable to the device I get a pop up message from my laptop telling me that my wifi connection is connected and signal strength is good. This message is on the laptop, and then the device will not sync and keeps saying 'looking for changes' forever.

Spontaneous Connection

Having decided last weekend that my Kaiser was way too fast, I loaded it up with bloatware.TouchFlo,HTC Cube,6 Tab Home Plugin,New HTC Default Theme,Audio Manager, Home Customizer,Comm Manager and Kaiser Tweaks. Most of it I loaded as .cabs or .zip thru Missing Sync for Mac. I also downloaded Windows Live Services and set up push email for my @live account. Everything works great except the phone now spontaneously connect to MediaNet (Edge) all day for no reason. The connection is not followed by email or anything else, it just connects. When I check Task Manager 95% of the time Activesync is running but not always. Have set Activesync from " as they arrive" to manual. The phone still connects for no reason. The notification that the phone is connecting comes up , I press cancel, right away it tries to connect again and again and again, then stops and five minutes later it will connect again. I know this is long but I know how you all like enough info.Any thoughts on causes or solutions?
The phone is doing what AT&T (or your phone service) told it to do - constantly make sure that you have a connection to them. This will drain your battery somewhat. What you want is that it should DROP all connections unless you TELL it to connect.
I think that you want to search for Kaiser Tweak -(oh wait! you already have that program) you will notice that you can make the phone connect only when you have told it to - i.e. make an internaet connection or check email. You can have the phone drop the connection one minute after that.
Have you actually used the Kaiser Tweak program? If not you should use it first/next.
I believe that this will most likely solve your problem if I have understood it correctly.
(PS - I recommend that you use the SEARCH at the top of the forum before posting next time.)

Thanks Bill...... Already went thru Kaiser Tweaks and set every single setting to advised setting. Set all the connection settings to connect manually and to drop the connection after one minute. It wil not do either.Google is my friend. I have google searched this forum and have used forum search. In the past two days Mon. and Tues. I have read thru more than 2000 posts and wikis before I decided to start a new thread if I have missed something I am Sorry and would have appreciated a link to this information that I have missed. I have had the phone since last Nov. and have been pretty faithful in reading this and the HTC wiki and forum and cannot figure this out.
Sorry again, Denco

Activesync randomly disconnects....

I've been putting up with this since I got my Diamond, but now enough is enough
Has anyone experience Activesync disconnecting there device after a random period of time?
The device connecs and syncs - no problems - but after what might be 5mins, or 35mins (randomly does this...), it just disconnects!!
Appears to have nothing to do with charging (could be only partially charged or fully) or actual syncing process. Not a real issue as it still syncs initially and even when disconnects it still charges up from the USB but...this appears to be a flaw with the s/w of diamond or WM6.1 (to me...)
If this is an issue perhaps someone from HTC might read this and note same!
Happens to me too. Not all the time, not often... exactly random, as you said. Quite annoying
I'm sure there can't be just two of us! This happens to me for nearly every connection, the difference is sometimes its in 5min, sometimes 5hrs
BTW, this happens with both my work and home PC......
Surely there are others with this issue???
now i cannot even connect but when i can never it will never doconect except when you turn the screen off
Hi,
I have the same disconnect problem, varies every time.
Looks like I'm not alone... Every 5 mins I need to turn off and on my screen t to reconnect, no matter at home or at office.... you guys are right... ANNOYING
Not sure if this might work but in Device manager > USB Hub properties > untick Allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

I haven't got any problem with Active Sync, both with Exchange server and with the desktop Outlook. Are you syncing with XP or Vista? I found Vista is rock solid when it comes to ActiveSync using their Mobile Device Center.

sounds like the device is turning off (not just the screen off)...this will of course disconnect ASync
OK, USB power off is not the issue here as with power manegement off it still disconnects.....
....anyone familiar with asynckiller? Built into SwiftB ROMs and is always running...what does this optimise? Could it be the culprit
Asynckiller the culprit...testing now...
could be getting closer now....I reckon its this Asynckiller built into the ROM
see here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
Have shut it down with task manager and see if the sync holds....stay tuned
hey guys i've had the same problem too. the answer to your question is simple: if the screen turns off, the device goes to sleep, the activesync connection is terminated. simple as that. in most cases however, my diamond never goes to sleep mode when in activesync... so if yours does, that's a newer problem
Hi,
I have the same problem with activesync by usb. This is very annoying especially if you have to transfer large files, like maps with TomTom-Home.
It is not the standby-mode which causes the problem. Even without going into standby the connection get loss.
My solution for the problem is to use bluetooth for active sync. I never get disconnected even I stay connected for hours!
I assume it must have to do something with the usb-controller. When I connect my device as mass-storage with my linux computer and transfer much/large files, I can see a lag in transfer after some time. The transfer stops for some seconds and then it goes on again.
Maybe this is the reason why activesync lose the connection
Have ruled out asynckiller....this is not the issue. Brief correspondance with SwiftB and he thinks this issue has been around as long as WM6.1 as been i.e. MS Activsync issue (another one!!) oh so frustrating
I was having this same issue when using a generic cradle I sent off for to sit my HTC Touch Diamond in. I've gone back to the cable that comes in the box with it and suddenly no more disconnections! Are you all using cradles too?
Yep. Have the same problem. Using Vista and 6.1. It wasn't a problem with XP and WM 5, but has appeared with 6.1.
I don't think it is Vista, as it also happens on another machine with XP and 6.1. Also not to do with the power saving, screen sleep or 'phone sleep. I disabled these in turn and the 'phone still disconnects (it does seem to be the 'phone, not the PC - both Vista and XP work fine with two other WM5 devices, although Microsoft is as confusing as ever by saying that AS is no longer required with Vista, whilst selling WM that always requires AS, thus ensuring that AS on the 'phone has to sync with Mobile Connection Centre).
It has got better and worse during the 8 weeks I've had the 'phone - not clear whether this is ROM or application related, as I'm changing so many things at once. Clean ROM install seems to help, but then the problem reappears when all apps are back on the 'phone. Maybe it's not getting a necessary data connection signal from the PC? I'm running it from a Dell M1330 USB2 port.

Diamond self-syncing time to internet/carrier ?

Have a problem with my Diamond, its set to 15mins faster than real time (habit of mine) and only occasionally when it syncs with my Vista64 PC the time reverts to "real time".
I'm not sure if its syncing the time to the internet or via my phone carrier, tried to fix this under phone options on the diamond and activesync options to no avail.
This is driving me nuts as I'm using the phone as an alarm clock and it won't be pretty if I wake 15mins late for work...
Errrmmm...
I'm not sure what 'problem' you're stating here? If you're complaining that your PC corrects the time on your device when you sync, then you don't have a 'problem' with your device - that's what syncing does (amongst other things)!
.. or are you saying that you want it to correct the time, and it isn't?
Well to clarify :
PC clock and phone clock is 15mins faster
OCCASIONALLY (its done this in about 1 per 4-5 syncs) the phone reverts back to "normal" time (i.e. goes back 15mins). The PC clock is still 15mins faster.
This leads me to believe that the phone is updating the time either from the carrier or the internet (its set to use the PC's internet connection when synced)

To keep phone from syncing with PC time:
In ActiveSync on PC, right click on "Windows PC", click the "Settings" button. Uncheck "Synchronize Pocket PC date and time when connecting."
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately I'm running Vista64 and Windows Mobile center doesn't have that function, I've tried all the options looking for something similar for the past 2 days....
Thats odd - I always thought it synced with the PC's time.
Yeah I know, I've checked that extensively, its 15mins slower than my PC time.
I'll try and see if turning off auto-adjust for timezone/daylight savings helps
